Jesus allows FPL managers to exploit Aguero absence

Differentials continue to be the bedrock of success for Fantasy Premier League managers in 2019/20.

Even though Gameweek 14 saw the popular players deliver, the top three FPL points scorers of the round each had ownership of 3% or less.

It was also nice to see the column’s picks of Danny Ings (£6.1m) and Alexandre Lacazette (£9.3m) also joining in on the fun with more goals.

It just goes to shows that there is value still to be found in unexpected places.

With that in mind, here are three differentials worth thinking about for Gameweek 14.

Gabriel Jesus

Aguero’s absence could unlock Jesus’ potential as a Fantasy asset

Price: £9.5m

Ownership: 1.9%

GW14 Opponent: Newcastle United (away)

It’s not very often that Fantasy managers are treated to a striker priced at less than £10M becomes a credible starting option for the Premier League’s reigning champions.

But with Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) out injured for a few games, the door into our teams looks to have been opened for Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m).

The Brazilian has only scored three league goals this season and for the most part, he’s just made cameo substitute appearances but when he has played, he has delivered.

Jesus has started four matches this season and has attacking returns in each of them, while four of his five goal involvements in 2019/20 have come away from home. Both of those statistics bode well for Gameweeks 14 and 15 when Manchester City are on the road without Aguero, against Newcastle and Burnley.

The Magpies are without a clean sheet since Gameweek 8 while Burnley have so far conceded seven goals at home to opposition from last season’s top-six.

Some Fantasy managers might be put off by the fact that Jesus has only scored 10 times in his last 37 league appearances. However, he has still registered a Fantasy attacking return every 99 minutes during the same period.

It certainly shows that Jesus has made the most of his limited game time.

Dele Alli

Alli could seriously benefit from Mourinho’s arrival at Spurs

Price: £8.4m

Ownership: 1.4%

GW14 Opponent: Bournemouth (home)

Dele Alli (£8.4m) has made a fantastic start to life under Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur and can be a fantastic differential option moving forward.

Without a start in the first eight Gameweeks, the England international regained his regular spot in the team in Gameweek 9, before Mauricio Pochettino left, and since then he has three attacking returns in the Premier League.

Mourinho’s arrival has already had an impact on Spurs as Gameweek 13 saw them record a first away league win of the campaign with three goals in one match for the first time since September.

He then oversaw a dramatic comeback 4-2 win over Olympiakos on Tuesday night.

One of the players to have stood out in each of these matches was Alli who registered an assist against West Ham and scored Spurs’ first goal in the Champions League.

While we don’t have too much relevant data available just yet, and the likes of James Maddison (£7.6m) and Christian Pulisic (£7.5m) are currently cheaper, getting in on Alli now could be a rewarding move.

Tottenham as a whole, including Alli, have the potential to be reinvigorated under Mourinho for the foreseeable future, especially when considering they must get back to winning ways if they are to finish in a respectable position come May.

Alli himself has been deployed in a number 10 role and, thus far, has looked comfortable and dangerous.

Tottenham have scored almost two goals per home league match this season and in Gameweek 14 host a Bournemouth team with just one clean sheet on the road in 2019/20.

Danny Ings

Danny Ings cannot stop scoring but is still owned by less than 5%

Price: £6.1m

Ownership: 4.2%

GW14 Opponent: Watford (away)

We might sound like a broken record recommending Ings for a second week running but it’s hard to ignore him when he’s scoring goals.

That said, the wider public are doing their best to overlook him because despite his recent form still just 4.2% own the Southampton striker.

Among all forwards over the last six Gameweeks, only Jamie Vardy (£9.7m) scored more goals than Ings.

Players such as Teemu Pukki (£6.6m), Callum Wilson (£7.7m) and Diogo Jota (£6.1m) have had far more touches in the penalty box than Ings and yet, since Gameweek 8 they’ve all failed to score while the former Burnley man has found the net four times.

It just goes to show that Ings hasn’t been wasteful with his limited goal-scoring opportunities of late and is even capable of scoring away from home at Arsenal and Manchester City.

Right now, there isn’t another striker in the same price bracket displaying the same kind of form as him.

Having said that, Southampton have only won two league game this season and it’s not a huge surprise that they’re currently found in 19th place on the back of pretty derisory home form.

On the plus side, it’s clear that when they do score Ings’ has an important part to play – he has been their main forward driving outlet.

After all, he has been involved with 54% of the Saints’ league goals since August.

They now have a good run of upcoming games that they simply must win to avoid a relegation dog fight from the New Year.

Up first is a Watford team currently short of some key defensive personnel. Craig Dawson (£4.8m), Christian Kabasele (£4.3m), Sebastian Prödl (£4.0m) and Daryl Janmaat (£4.4m) are all injured for Gameweek 14.

    Would leave me with:

    Pope, Button
    TAA, Chilwell, Lund, Boly, Kelly
    Mane, KDB, Son, Maddison, Mount
    Jimenez, Vardy, Greenwood.

    All replies appreciated.

    3. Other option.

    Pope.
    Robbo, Soyuncu, Lundstram.
    Pulisic, Mane, KDB, Salah, Cantwell.
    Abraham, Vardy.
    Button, Janmaat, A. Smith, Wickham.

What we learnt in the runup to gameweek 14...

    Liverpool

There was confirmation from Liverpool that Fabinho would miss out for up to 8 weeks with an ankle ligament injury but Klopp can’t be sure on the timeframe. Keita is “ok” so should be back in the matchday squad.
    https://twitter.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/1200404197314830343?s=20

    Leicester City

Evans is fit and available for selection after being subbed vs Brighton. Apparently their new training ground has a newt problem or something (slow news day).
    https://twitter.com/BBCRLSport/status/1200413045790531584?s=20

    Chelsea

Abraham has been confirmed out of the weekend match but will be reassessed on Monday, and only then will Lampard know the severity. No mention of CHO but I believe he has been training and has some level of fitness. Rudiger is getting closer to a return.
    https://twitter.com/SiPhillipsSport/status/1200408726202699776?s=20

    Man City

No unexpected injuries for City who unsurprisingly will be without Aguero. Long term injuries remain out.
    https://twitter.com/City_Xtra/status/1200406940897226752?s=20

    Sheffield Utd

Sheffield United have Henderson back after illegibility but are also boosted by having Mousset and Egan confirmed ready for duty.
    https://twitter.com/LeonWobYP/status/1200368722432733184?s=20

    Arsenal

EL for Arsenal and the Emery sacking means there’s little team news coming from them this week.

    Man Utd

MEN are reporting that Pogba has an outside chance of returning vs Spurs but he won’t be ready for the weekend. McTominay may be able to return this weekend or midweek vs Spurs. Shaw is back in the fold now after playing 90 mins midweek.
    https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-united-news-pogba-injury-17334610

    Wolves

EL duty means news is pretty limited from Wolves.

    Bournemouth

Josh King is still out for Bournemouth, who will also be sweating on Fraser after he missed the start of the week with a dead leg, though Howe hopes he’ll be ok. Solanke had a scan for his hamstring but should also be ok. Brooks not on the training ground yet.
    https://twitter.com/jordanclarkcouk/status/1200345317188743168?s=20

    Burnley

Drinkwater is back in contention for Burnley who will still be without Gudmundsson. Westwood is suspended.
    https://twitter.com/TheClarets_com/status/1200050189471485954?s=20

    Brighton

March will be a doubt with a groin injury, but Connolly is back training and back in the squad. Bernardo is approaching a return but the weekend will be too soon for him.
    https://twitter.com/AndyNaylorBHAFC/status/1200045566086012933?s=20

    Crystal Palace

Ward will be out for a number of weeks which might pave a way for Kelly to get back into the team. Sakho has been fine for a while but needs time to build fitness after being out for so long. It is also reported that Cahill is a doubt with a knee injury that will need assessment.
    https://twitter.com/MattWoosie/status/1200040851453435904?s=20

    Newcastle

Ritchie has had a further minor operation which means he’s set to miss out until January. Yedlin is a doubt with a hip injury, but everyone else is ok.
    https://twitter.com/S_McCormick95/status/1200348490414665728?s=20

    Tottenham

Davies faces an extended period of rehab after getting some ankle ligament damage. Lamela is approaching a return to training whilst Vorm and Lloris continue rehab. Jose made clear that he has multiple options at LB but may see Sessegnon more as a winger.
    https://twitter.com/AlasdairGold/status/1200398972185202688?s=20

    Everton

Walcott and Schneiderlin are big doubts for Everton, who will also be without Coleman. Delph is expected to miss the game and will be a major doubt. Richarlison is ok, but despite Bernard returning to full sessions he will need time.
    https://twitter.com/Adam_Jones94/status/1200410484421332992?s=20

    West Ham

In a shocking turn of events, Jack Wilshere is injured and will miss out this weekend. Lanzini is around a month away from returning. Fabianski’s return date is still unknown, but early predictions were around Christmas.
    https://twitter.com/Sam_InkersoleTM/status/1200029711021281281

    Aston Villa

New contract for Smith seemed to dominate the news, but couldn’t see a press conference. Please correct me if I’m wrong and I’ll update this.

Edit - Engels has trained all week and is in contention, but will have to displace Konsa you'd imagine.
    https://twitter.com/mjmarr_star/status/1200416960728780801?s=20

    Watford

Injuries are mounting for Watford and they’re down to just 2 fit CBs with Dawson, Kabasele and Prodl all out. Janmaat is out as well after having surgery, with Cleverley and Welbeck remaining out. Pereyra might not be in 100% position to play.
    https://twitter.com/sr_collings/status/1200097022365372423?s=20

    Southampton

Armstrong has been ruled out with an injury but should return in around a fortnight. Boufal is a major doubt after being attacked by his coffee table and hasn’t trained for the last 3 days. Bednarek was ill and missed Thursday training but should be fine.
    https://twitter.com/AdamBlackmore/status/1200052015012941824?s=20

    Norwich

Hanley is out still and is joined by Tettey who misses out due to family reasons. Jamal Lewis is back in the mix but Farke will still have to wait and see on him. Klose is still out. Cantwell trained and should be fine.

Think he'll start this one. Actually a little worried about the next one, but hinges on squad fitnesses etc.

CHO, based on my reckoning, is close to being ready for the weekend but will be better suited to a bench role, so I think Mount will be the main threat to his spot. However, I see Mount taking one of the midfield 3's spots (whilst Kov has looked superb, he maybe lost his legs a bit towards the end midweek so perhaps him). Fairly confident Pul will play this week.

Vs Villa however I'm wondering if Frank might try Kov in midfield and Mount on the left or a 343, which might be a good way to give Pulisic a rest. CHO could also come in.

Just guess work right now though.

After a week of deliberating, just sold Sterling and held onto KdB. The one-week punishment factor is much higher with Sterling, but hopefully over the next 5 weeks they even out, and you have 2.5m to spread around the team.

Bit odd, but I'm considering keeping Tammy.

I have Tomori as bench depth for the next two so I'm not that bad off. If he's back next weekend, I'll have him where everyone else has already shipped.

Is this a KdB missing one game or a Martial (from GW4) situation? I don't want to do a Mark xD

Think I'll keep Tammy and play Cantwell this GW. I figure that Cantwell will start and Norwich have a decent chance of scoring against Arsenal - of which Cantwell could be involved.

Hopefully we get an update early next week re. Abraham.

Nothing odd about it if you have good bench cover. Ill happily play Deulofeu against a shite Southampton defence

KDB had IB in his favour. Even if Tammy is out for 2 weeks, would mean at least next 3 GWs so I'd say sell.

For those one WC, who' the got-to goalkeeper - Gazza, Ryan, Hendo, Guaita, or holding on to Pope?

I think I'd go for Guaita - Palaces long term fixture run is pretty incredible. Unless you're getting PVA.

Txs. He's looking a good option, though a tad more expensive.
