The Dugout Discussion opens for the concluding fixture of Gameweek 34, which sees 17th placed Wigan Athletic travel down the 3rd placed Arsenal. The team news for the game is in, and the sides line-up as follows…

Arsenal XI: Szczesny, Sagna, Djourou, Vermaelen, Andre Santos, Song, Arteta, Walcott, Rosicky, Benayoun, van Persie.
Wigan XI: Al Habsi, Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figueroa, Boyce, McCarthy, McArthur, Beausejour, Moses, Di Santo, Gomez.

A single change from the side that brushed Wolves aside for the Gunners, as Tomas Rosicky comes in for Aaron Ramsey in midfield.

Despite condemning Manchester United to only their fourth defeat of the season, Shaun Maloney isn’t in the visitors squad. Jordi Gomez replaces the Malaysian born Scot.

okay, focus to next game & need your advice.current team :

Vorm - Krul
Bae - Evans - Verm - Caulker - Turner
Bale - Valencia - Walcott - McClean - Siggy
Rvp - Cisse - Roo

With 2 FT, 3.2 m in the bank. leaning towards to bring in Dempsey but who to sacrifice ?
- Maybe I will ditch Verm to get Baines for DGW. If I ditch Walcott, means only Rvp as my Ars coverage.
- If keep valencia, he will on the bench for the double..what should I do ?

  you don't want to jump onto kun/tevez bandwagon?at the moment wigan is the form team in the league,they beat liv n arsenal away,MU at home and unlucky to lose to chelsea at stamford bridge. then i'm not sure if fulham can beat them easily. so i'll be looking to transfer in man city attacker and captained him against wolves

Much has been made (by me) over how bad I have been at this game since 2012 started.

A huge reason for that has to be captains choices.

It's more than just hindsight: Rooney was a much better choice than Van Persie. As a result of that one decision, my lead in the L5 continues to slip.

Man, did my 8 point hit for Walcott and Sess turn out bad :ok, ok, I only lost out on 3 points, technically. Even so, could have done a lot better without it.

I think I'm just horrible at this game. Maybe I should just keep taking hits until I have a good week. RVP>Tevez, Sess>Bale for a hit, anyone?

  so much of what is talked about on here is transfers for countless players, taking hits to bring in player x and then replacing player y during gameweek z.
  
  When really captain choice can be just as, if not more influential on overall rank.

        Perhaps *requiring* yourself to finish in the top 0.05% is a bit harsh?
        
        A loose goal of 1K for yourself is cool, but I think you've let the goal become a must-be. And any number of random, capricious factors might deny a person that status - even if they made every move 'perfectly'.

  Hard luck Newman. Lets just say I didn't expect to get 77 points from 7 starters and 2 bench players. It turned out to be a fairly remarkable week for me, my tactics payed off more than I could have ever hoped. Best of luck with the L5

      Yeah things all fell into place for me this time around. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect gameweek considering the circumstances. Unlucky for you too, you'd think Arsenal would at least beat Wigan by a goal or two. I had to captain last week as the idea was that I needed a differential to keep up with all the teams with 11 players. Worked a treat 🙂 , probably would have captained RVP though had it not been an issue.

Well, opts from 3 players and one was the captain. It was shaping up to be a decent GW before that nonsense.

So my current team for the week.

Krul
Jevans/Sagna/Caulker
Dempsey/Valencia/Siggy/HBA
RVP/Rooney/Cisse

Got nothing in the bank and 1 free. Got Dempsey in yesterday for Sess (not looking great after the witan performance)

Serious knee jerk action now. Talk me out of doing Rooney to Tevez and making him El Capitano!

I'm just playing for rank now. Currently 28k and it's the highest I ever achieved. Would love to break the top 20k.

      i'd be surprised if he plays Saturday. He took a nasty knock against united. I think the docs might make him sit it out, just my opinion but his eyes rolled back in his head after his head hit evras shoulder. I was shocked he was let back on the pitch. Wait till Fri and if they say he can play then he's a great punt, one i haven't considered in fact, cheers 😉

What do you guys think about Rooney > Cisse for free?

I have a feeling Rooney will struggle in the next couple of games (EVE, mci) and I plan on getting Cisse in for the DGW anyway

  You not bothering with a city forward? I feel that I can't avoid it. I am now protecting a lead and my main rival has a wildcard. Surely he will get tevez or aguero (or both) for a one week punt this week before his wild card.

    Not too bothered. For me Tevez is a rotation risk for the Wolves game (its only wolves) and United (Mancini said Balotelli will be available contrary to what he said about not using him again)
    
    I would also rather have Rooney over Aguero. Can't bring myself to sell RVP though

I'm so happy this morning. The right captain choice (rooney) has allowed me to overtake my rival and open up a bit of a lead. 18 points will allow me to make 3 hits for GW36 to take me up to 8 DGW players (9 if I don't get aguero this week), and still start the week 6 points ahead. That should just about negate his wild card and make me favourite going into the final stretch! BOOM!

      Morning Acqua. I see Big Verm came in for you last night, to make up for RVP. Verms goal brings Mrs China Mag back within 2 pts of me. Its going to be a fight to the finish!!
      
      If I go ahead and do rooney for ageuro (or tevez), it will mean I can only field 5 DGW players without a hit. (Howard, Santon, Bale, Barfa, Dave). My single week players would be Turner, Caulker, Kompany, Sess, Siggie, Aguero.
      
      How many hits do people think I should take. I'm thinking Kompany - Baines. Should I be looking at any more? Aguero - Adebayor or Jelavic?
