The Dugout Discussion opens for the concluding fixture of Gameweek 34, which sees 17th placed Wigan Athletic travel down the 3rd placed Arsenal. The team news for the game is in, and the sides line-up as follows…

Arsenal XI: Szczesny, Sagna, Djourou, Vermaelen, Andre Santos, Song, Arteta, Walcott, Rosicky, Benayoun, van Persie.

Wigan XI: Al Habsi, Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figueroa, Boyce, McCarthy, McArthur, Beausejour, Moses, Di Santo, Gomez.

A single change from the side that brushed Wolves aside for the Gunners, as Tomas Rosicky comes in for Aaron Ramsey in midfield.

Despite condemning Manchester United to only their fourth defeat of the season, Shaun Maloney isn’t in the visitors squad. Jordi Gomez replaces the Malaysian born Scot.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and can be accessed right here.

He should sneak in 1, maybe even 2. Hopefully his off target shots won't go against him too much!

well he spent almost the entire time i watched in Wigan's penalty box!
wish i'd opted for him over Kompany -would have really helped me catch my ML leader.
few clearances as well obviously. wouldnt be surprised if he got something.

what are you're plans this week Tosey? you keeping Roo for eve (think i will) -and have you given up on Tottenham for the double yet? (im still thinking of Ade!!)

im just saving a transfer this week, my bench is kelly (WIG) mclean (avl) caulker (bol)

so pretty strong. guna have a keen interest in qpr spurs this week then decide what to do next week, got a 40pt cushion at the top of my minileague so not averse to a few hits now as not too worried about overall rank

Just wondering....is there any point in getting Demps in.

Playing the in form Wigan this coming GW and as far as the DGW, Liverpool and Everton away are hardly tempting fixtures.

Add to that until last week he had done nothing away from home. I think people may be getting side tracked by the DGW factor (may being the operative word).

      yes

his average home score in the last 6 is over 10. even if he does shit away theres a good chance of 10, 4, 10 in the next 3 gameweeks. 8 ppg is good enough for me

ill be shipping for spurs away last game of teh season but no way will i get rid before then.

Stats are not everything. He was very good at OT and could have had an away goal there easily. Dempsey has the same amount of away goals as Bale & Walcott and more away goals than Sessegnon. Nobody says they suck away from home.

Dempsey has scored 45% of Fulham's away goals. It's more to do with Fulhams away form than Dempseys.

I am not dissin Demps far from it....until the blank GW I had him and captained him for his hat-trick, his brace/(s). Look at my history I love Captain America!

I was just saying that I didn't know if he was right for the DGW and wanted to see if anyone shared my point. As you can see it's 50/50 ish. It's hard to ignore Wigan's form and also the fact that he has 2 away games in his DGW.

Until he scored at Bolton the overwhelming consensus on here was that he doesn't do much away from home and therefore isn't worth it for the DGW. Scoring at Bolton has bizarrely reversed that evaluation. I think DGW Fever has made everyone forget that Bolton are appalling. Nice to see someone with an amazing rank share my opinion 🙂

Yes, I would get him back for last 2 GW and ditch Aguero or even Cisse probably. (would keep Ade for his fixtures). Have 1 FT to do it as well. The only thing that is stopping me is Chelsea's lack of defenders because of injury. Will wait until Saturday morning to hear more news on Cahill and Luiz.

It's a good one this week. RVP versus Chelsea is considered a tough fixture - but it's at home and Chelsea have a depleted backline. Rooney rarely does well against Everton - but you can't ignore him in a home game against anyone. Aguero is notoriously poor away from home but he's just bagged a brace away and is up against a desperate Wolves side.

I think the only advice you can give is 'Be lucky'...

    Hello, I'm pissed.

I spent whole season worrying team value and price rises & falls. Then when just two weeks ago I started to play safe and make my transfers after all games are played - booom!
First thing that happened was I missed vermaelen by 0.1 and had to take sagna.
I dodged the bullet week ago, but I knew it was going to happen sooner or later....

My mini-league looked good, but this gw couldn't go worse (all swa, sun, wba fckrs just had to get that cs!).
I fourth now and there's 30 points to top of the table, I suppose it isn't impossible, but could really have lived without that 7-8 point difference in verm/sagna this week.

    Boring rant over.

So there's talk of people on here getting rid of RVP this morning and here I am likely to give him the armband.

Looks to me like Luiz will miss out and it looks likely that Cahill may miss out too. Terry has cracked ribs and Ivanovic is suspended. Likely back 4 of:

    Bosingwa, Terry, Ferreira/Essien, Cole

Following scores of "2" this season, RVP has scored:

    2, 5, 12, 15, 9, 6, 23, 8, 5, 12 = average of 9.7 ppg.

I don't think that's what I'm saying at all actually.

The point is that, if you look for patterns in FPL, he seems to produce returns after a disappointing week - coupled with Chelsea's defensive problems I think he's a good captain pick.

You can make stats tell you a lot of thing. Don't read patterns in randomness.

At the end of the day RVP is unlikely to go many games getting 2 points as he's one of the best strikers in the league.

Though I think Aguero, Tevez and Rooney will outscore him this week.

1 goal in his last 6 isn't what we've come to expect from RVP. That being said I wouldn't drop him for Aguero or any other non DGW player at this stage.

      I'm going RVP captain too.

Tevez, Dempsey and Siggy are tempting alternatives but his statistics show his goal threat hasn't decreased over the last few game and he's the best in terms of reliability and proven quality.

I think my rival will choose between Rooney, Dempsey and RVP (all of which I have too) so I'm just going to go with my gut feeling.

Take into account Chelsea's other commitments and the fact Arsenal will be looking to put things right after defeat to Wigan and it seems to me like a no-brainer.

23pts off the lead now, was some 60 last week - finally my captaincy choice proved the correct one! Decided to keep Rooney for this week and use the transfer to bring in a DGW player next week - Ade or Jellyfish.

Need to get dempsey in this week though but don't know who for?

In that case you should be okay to make a team.
My advice would be to concerntrate on getting the good players that you want and not worry about getting a full squad out. At this stage it is alot tougher to play a full 11.

is this the week to swap Walcott for Dempsey?

In Walcotts favour is the fact Chelsea look to have some defensive issues and won't play as compactly as Wigan did last night. However he only has the one game in GW36 and it's away at Stoke.

Dempsey however has an in form Wigan at home followed by two away games in the double GW36.

    Decisions decisions...

Anyone going with Aguero on the basis that G.Neville said he's the main man and plays closer to goal? 😀 😀

Right then, with four weeks to go i'm currently top of my mini league with a 37 point cushion- a position i've never been in before (which is unbelievable given the start i had). Any suggestions from those who have as to the best strategy to maintain this position for the run-in?

Worry about what your doing and not what your opponents are. Play your own game.

Sell Rooney and get in Carlito/Kun and (c) them this week. See how close you are come gw 36. Then gamble big time.

Wow - well done - there's probably a few things you could do but I would go one week a a time and bring one villa player in and worry about the week after later
