Pundits Playoff MW8 Results

Gary Lineker: Another match week over in the Pundits Playoff, I’m here with Roy Keane and Ian Holloway to discuss their team’s fortunes for Period 2. So a good week then Ian?

Ian Holloway: Yeah they did quite well, I think…didn’t they? I’ve been in Bognor this week so I missed the game. [phone rings] Hang on a minute Gary…
GL: Roy can you tell us what tactics if any the Keane Fifteen got wrong in their loss to Holly’s Hamsters?
Roy Keane: They ignored Vardy, it’s that simple. These are the basics, you know? If you ignore a prolific striker, you just asking for a beating.
GL: Ian, the Hamsters are now on a bit of a roll and in first place in the Period 2 H2H league. You must be proud?
IH: [still on the phone] No, if you do it that way it won’t work, you need to oil it first otherwise it’ll stick…
GL: Erm, right, so…Roy, your team are still top in the overall H2H league, so they must still be feeling confident of staying in front?
RK: [eye balling Holloway] Is he going to stay on that thing all interview?
IH: [still on the phone] No, no, no, use the French icing, it’s much better for that, mate.
GL: Interesting to see that Pirlo’s Pen is still top in the best manager of the period table, with Toblerone52 in close pursuit. Have you been impressed by his team management so far?
RK: Pirlo’s Pen?! I’ll tell you EXACTLY what I think, Gary, he’s a f…
IH: [puts away phone] Sorry about that, Gary, my mate’s got a problem with his sheep.
RK: Sheep?! What are talking about, you fool? Gary’s asking a serious question about the Pundits Playoff? And you’re parked on your phone for half the interview?
GL: Well thanks chaps for your feedback [loud noises sound off camera], I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the remaining three weeks of the second period [chair flies past] of the, erm, Pundits Playoff. Goodnight!

MW8 Results

Sparks were indeed flying in some closely fought matches in the Pundits Playoff, the FFS Community Tournament that pits FFS members against each other in a season long competition.

Match week 8 saw a new team top the Period H2H table, with Holly’s Hamsters overcoming an 77 point deficit after Saturday’s matches to beat The Keane Fifteen 13-2. The Nirvana Derby between Nirvana’s Scott Talent and A Whole Lawro B*llocks was a very close affair, with the latter winning by just 8 points, taking home the 9 league points for their first win of the period. However, NST managed to win 5 of the 6 H2H bonus points on offer so shan’t feel too disgruntled. In the Nuts ‘n Balls derby, Brazil Nuts pulled off their fourth win of the campaign, whitewashing Slaven’s Ball-itch 16-0, and achieving the highest score of the week with 865. BSC Small Boys (in the park) FC split the H2H bonus points with Back to Square Owen, but managed the win as well, and move up to third place in the Period 2 H2H league table. In a rare display of generosity, Unbelievable Jeff FC relinquished 5 H2H bonus points to their latest victims, “15” Musketeers, but the 9 league points from their win keep them in second place. Finally WhenTheOWENgetsTough did indeed suffer a very tough defeat, losing by just 9 points to Blame It On Rio, but neither team escaped the bottom half of the table.

Overall League Table

pundits-playoff-mw8-results 1

Overall, The Keane Fifteen still hang on to their lead in the cumulative table, but their lead is shortened to less than 10 league points, opening the door to both Unbelievable Jeff FC and WhenTheOWENgetsTough to overtake them should they lose their next match.

Other notable stats

Every match week, each team must nominate three of their players to take part in the H2H battles, for the chance to win bonus points for their team. Top of the H2H battle kings table are both shri1211 and AA33, both with four H2H wins for their managers. Wolverine remains the top scoring player in the tournament with a score of 535. Finally, the coveted Best Manager of the Period award is set for Pirlo’s Pen of Unbelievable Jeff FC, who won it in Period 1. But Toblerone52 of Holly’s Hamsters is running him very close and will be looking to overtake him should his team prevail in GW9…the pressure is on!

Match week 9 takes place this weekend, and here are the fixtures:

  • WhenTheOWENgetsTough vs Brazil Nuts
  • Blame it on Rio vs “15” Musketeers
  • Slaven’s Ball-itch vs The Keane Fifteen
  • Unbelievable Jeff FC vs Nirvana Scott Talent
  • Holly’s Hamsters vs BSC Small Boys (in the park) FC
  • A Whole Lawro B*llocks vs Back to Square Owen

Deadline for team line-ups is 10:30 am Saturday 14th December.

Will the pressure be too much for The Keane Fifteen to keep their top spot?
Which team will be crushed for not having enough Vardys or Manés in their collective squads?
Until next time in the Pundits Playoff, good luck all (except, of course, the BSC Small Boys FC, the Hamsters are getting ready to take you lads to school!)

Boris - Its fantastic that you can still find time to do all this on top of your other commitments, and its also amazing that you can still get an internet connection inside that fridge!

We too have a tricky European problem this week, and if you could generate some Visa problems for the Musketeers that would be great. Usual terms apply.

Good luck today, don't talk to any strange men with mobile phones and mikes, and if you need a scapegoat later today, we know who you can blame.

I shall be throwing my support behind the Office Party, so expect a photocopy of my arse in time for the 10 O'Clock News.

Evening chaps. We’re behind 54 points. Hamsters differentials are Zaha (3), Son (3), Rashford (2), Ryan (2), Guaita, Kelly, KDB and Kane.
Small boys diffs are Alli (4), Gazzaniga (2), Jiménez, Doherty and Sterling. Not looking too great for us but we are at least ahead in the H2Hs, 4-2

So for a win the Hamsters need:
            2 Zaha goals
Clean sheets for Kelly and Guaita
Minimum 2 points from Ryan (pen save would be nice as long as it's not Zaha taking it)

If the above happens, I'll eat my hat! Well played Small Boys FC

Unbelievable Jeff v Nirvana's Got Talent

Latest standings by my calculations after autosubs, cancelling-outs, etc.

    UJ: Martial, Rashford; Aurier x 3; Otamendi, KDB x 4; Zaha x 3, Guaita x 2.
NGT: 100 points + Jimmy x 5, Alli; Jesus; Kelly

3pt H2H: UJ: Jimmy; KDB. NGT: 20 points + Rashford; Kelly.
2pt H2H: UJ: 9 points + Rashford; KDB. NGT: Jimmy, Son; Ryan.
1pt H2H: UJ: KDB; Zaha. NGT: 16 points.

100 point lead was evaporated and ended in a draw 850-850, though both teams effectively lost due to the bizarre scoring system of a draw splitting the 9 points 3-3 (second time this has stitched us now in this competition). 3 point H2H was drawn, whilst UJ won the other two, so final match score was:

Unbelievable Jeff 7.5 Nirvana Scott Talent 4.5.

Great comeback Unbelievable Jeff - literally unbelievable 😀

I guess the scoring is like the points for a actual game.. in case of win 3 points and draw 2 points are split as 1 each..
Tough luck on 2 draws on exact score from 13 players..

It's in football so teams don't play for a draw. Is a nonsense concept in a tournament like this.

Not a completely nonsense concept, especially it's up to the manager's to enter their own score. But noted for next season, if we are honoured to do it again. It's in the rules now so we'll probably have to stick to it. Unless of course all the managers agree to changing it and I can alter the historic scores...?

Great stuff as always, Boris! Apologies for the non-submission this week. I went outside cell service range unknowingly and wasn't able to get connected until too late. Thank the Lord for having my back there!

Congratulations to 15 Musketeers for the win. We thought we had the game 15-0, and then KDB kicked us in the arse. If my calculations are correct, the final score is BIOR 1 - 14 Musketeers. A tough one to swallow, but we will bounce back from this and release the fury on the Scott Talents next week!

It was mistletoe and wine last Saturday, when a flurry of points had the Musketeers backtracking faster than a Boris campaign commitment. Advent Calendars were cracked open with the half-time oranges; Xmas Stockings were strung up (next to Rio); and there was even a brief discussion about Christmas bonuses. As Geevious could be heard extolling just before he was carted off to the Asylum, the only thing that can go wrong is for 15 feral Grinch’s, imitating KDB, to suddenly emerge over the horizon ….

Next up is draw specialists, Nirvana Scott Talent, who on the back of a slow start now only have Christmas Specials and the odd Countdown repeat on UK Gold to look forward to. Nevermind, there’s still a chance that Simon Cowell will be sniffing round for new talent to refresh the franchise, and the BIOR Squad are agog at the prospect of catching his eye with their innovative ‘Magic Mike does Pavarotti on ice’ set; which is also how they train for the Offside trap. Hollywood surely beckons.

Sadly, the Christmas Party had to be cancelled as the tree is stuck in one of Rio’s orifices, and we still haven’t paid for all the hits we took last year. Instead, we’re being frisked by the auditors for redundant Liverpool assets; but I’m sorted, having already swapped mine for Yarmolenko and Fredericks.

That reminds me, must get my leave application in before Boris cancels Christmas.

Nirvana Scott Talent v Blame it on Rio

Current position by my calculations after autosubs, cancelling-outs etc.

NST: 114 points + Maguire, Martial x 2, Greenwood; Willian
    BIOR: James, Rashford x 6; Gazza x 2, Aurier x 2, Alli x 2, Pulisic, Abraham x 5

    3pt H2H: NST: 26 points. BIOR: Rashford x 2; Abraham
2pt H2H: NST: 23 points + Maguire, Martial. BIOR: Rashford x 2; Aurier, Son, Abraham.
1pt H2H: NST: 26 points. BIOR: Rashford x 2; Abraham (weirdly, exactly the same situation as the 3pt H2H!)

NST with a big lead, but BIOR with a lot more players tomorrow. Could be interesting...…..

    Nuts - 2 Kane, 6 Son, 4 Rashford, Tomori(0 autosub), 3 Abraham, 2 Alli

    H2H B
    Keane - Martial, Alli
