Double Gameweeks can be a poisoned chalice, particularly when they involve such an uninspiring team as Bolton. Having spent most of the season battling relegation, Owen Coyle’s outfit have so often been whipping boys and rarely shown the class needed to ensure their survival.

With two double Gameweeks on the horizon, however, the risk of investing in their ranks does lesson considerably. Surely, many Fantasy managers will be asking, some of Owen Coyle’s players can muster a healthy score with (SWA, avl) and (sun, TOT) to play over Gameweeks 35 and 36 respectively?

The Prospects

Clean sheets and goals are at a premium for Bolton. The Trotters have kept just three this season and shipped 65 goals; only Wolves and Blackburn have a poorer defensive record. After scoring seven times in their first three games, Coyle’s side have since notched a further 29 in the following 29 fixtures and have failed to find the net in 14 of their 32 games to date.

Across their upcoming four matches, Bolton’s game against Aston Villa looks the best prospect for a clean sheet, given that the west Midlands club are one of only four teams to have scored fewer goals than Coyle’s side. The Tottenham game seems unlikely to prove lucrative for Bolton’s defenders or attackers, though. Harry Redknapp’s men will be fully focused on a Champions League slot now that their FA Cup run has come to an end and, with 57 goals and 12 clean sheets to their name, have plenty to play for.

Sunderland have a good home record, with eight of their 11 clean sheets achieved at the Stadium of Light. Bolton’s attackers are likely to be disappointed when they roll up to Wearside, but there is hope at least for their defenders; the Black Cats’ attacking swagger seems to have deserted them, with not a single goal in their last three. Complacency was arguably a key factor in Sunderland’s dour 0-0 draw when they hosted Wolverhampton in Gameweek 34.

Swansea are also assured of survival but are showing no let-up in terms of attack. With an on-form Gylfi Sigurdsson leading a midfield charge, Bolton’s prospects of a clean sheet look limited against the Welsh side.

The Likely Lads

It’s easy to be pessimistic here. Not one of Bolton players has mustered an average points per game score above 3.5. Their highest goal scorer remains Ivan Klasnic who, after notching three times in the first three games, has grabbed eight so far this season – the Croatian seems to have fallen out of favour, though, and is now afforded substitute appearances at best. The rest of the front line is similarly unimpressive – Kevin Davies and David N’Gog have mustered a measly five goals between them over the entire campaign.

With such an impotent front line, the midfield offers perhaps the best prospect of points. Chief among these likely lads is the 5.1m priced Martin Petrov, mainly due to his role as Bolton’s penalty taker. He has a total point score of 81 with two goals, six assists and four bonus points to his name. After being dropped from the side mid-season, the Bulgarian looks to have cemented his place in the starting line-up, having being named in the first XI in the last five matches.

Another midfield prospect assured of starts is the 4.8m priced Mark Davies. He has started every game since Gameweek 10, except for the Gameweek 26 away clash with Chelsea through injury. Davies clearly has an eye for goal, scoring three times this season to help him amass a total of 77 points.

Since joining on loan from Arsenal in January, 4.9m priced Ryo Miachi has lit up Bolton’s midfield; his accuracy with crosses and set piece duties have helped him accrue 20 points and provide two assists. Regular starts are far from guaranteed for this skilful midfielder, however, with Bolton boss Owen Coyle aware of his youth and limiting his game time in recent weeks. Miyaichi has managed just 68 minutes of game time over Bolton’s last two games.

Fantasy managers looking at the porous Bolton defence for investment may be forced to rely on attacking points. David Wheater, who is priced at 4.4m, looks the best bet after scoring two goals and accruing two assists since cementing a regular first-team role in light of Gary Cahill’s January departure to Chelsea.

Save points are also likely to attract interest in Bolton’s flame haired goalkeeper Adam Bogdan. With a 4.0m price tag he has started every match and made 50 saves since Gameweek 20.

Cheeky Punts

The selection of Chris Eagles could prove fruitful for risk-taking Fantasy managers. With 90 points to date, he is Bolton’s top Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points scorer after some dazzling displays in the first half of the season. The former Burnley man has notched two double-figure hauls, three goals and seven assists – this 5.1m priced midfielder really ought to be a shoo-in for double Gameweek selection. His game time has been limited in recent weeks, though, meaning starts are far from assured. With a run of four games in the next 15 days, the chance of at least two first-team appearances for Eagles becomes a real possibility. If selected, he has the potential to reward those willing to take a punt.

Kevin Davies is a legend at Bolton since joining in 2003 and scoring 76 goals in his 361 appearances. As he enters his 35th year, however, game time and goal scoring opportunities have become limited. There is every chance, though, that Coyle will be in need of his skipper’s experience as Bolton look to beat the drop in the final few games of the season. At least one start looks assured across the two double gameweeks and, as was shown with his assist during his 21 minutes against Wolves in Gameweek 31, this 5.6m priced forward can damage opposition defences coming on from the bench. It’s also possible Davies may well still be number one for spot-kick duties when on the pitch, furthering his appeal.

See above.....Rooney is almost as likely to match Aguero/Tevez score this week especially if you factor in the extra 4 pt hit.

You really think that an off form rooney against a very strong everton defence is likely to match the score of an in form tevez (or aguero) against the worst defence in the league?

China, Assuming the given the extra 4pt hit required to do the swap is far from a "slam dunk" .......if rooney scores, Tevez/Aguero need to score 3 to beat him.

OK. But your comment makes it sound like you think he will match their score, even without a hit

For me, if its for free, its a no brainer. If its for a hit, its a calculated gamble. But only do it for a hit if your city player is a better captain option than anyone you already have.

Its funny how people aren't backing the fixtures at the moment. Usually FFS is all about backing the fixtures and it has taken all season for an about shift. Now all the talk is

-Newcastle's form means they can beat anyone (I have been sucked into this idea already).

          -Wigan are world beaters

-City will score 5-10 goals against wolves and it doesn't matter what happens after that fixture

            1. i'm wary about this idea though as new is playing both dgw matches away. if baines out of the dgw, probably i'll take pienaar to cover for everton

            2. cannot blame them though. wigan has beat MU at home, beat liv and arsenal away, and unlucky to lose against chelsea at stamford bridge. dempsey could be differential if you captain him this gw as most of us will captain kun/tevez.

            3. compared to wigan, wolves has lost their confidence and will to fight against relegation. and with their 1st choice keeper is out of the season, there is a possibility of high score at wolves.

    Vorm Krul
    Simpson Shawcross Evans Verm Turner
    Walcott Dempsey Valencia Sess Siggy
    RVP Rooney Graham

    0.7 in bank, 1 FT.

    Which sounds best?

    a) Rooney + Graham > Cisse + Adebayor (-4)
    b) Rooney > Tevez (c)
    c) Rooney + Walcott > Tevez + Silva/Bale
    d) keep Rooney & save the FT.

    Thanks in advance. 🙂

    Aguero or Tevez.
    Aguero or Tevez

    For god's sake, why can't I decide.

The crowd seem to favour Tevez, although Aguero has 4 goals, 2 assists and 5 BPs in the last 2 games, and I believe he's still on pens and more likely to last the full 90 mins.

      Rooney over Aguero

Tevez over Rooney if nailed on.

After weighing that up I would either keep Rooney or take a risky but profitable punt on Tevez

Why Tevez over Aguero though? Yes Tevez got a hat-trick last w/e, but 2 were due to poor GKing/defending, and Aguero could have had at least 3 on another day. I think Tevez brings the best out of Aguero.

This is possibly true. The main reason is that Tevez would get further forward most of the time no? he will get into more dangerous positions than Aguero. From open play I would expect then for Tevez to score more goals provided he gets full games.

Hmm, even though I don't exactly agree with that, as watching the games it seemed obvious, according to espn, Aguero was ahead of him on average position in both games, and has had 13 shots to Tevez's 7

See above, the shot stats back up Aguero - but that doesn't mean anything really as these sort of stats didn't back up Cisse, Valencia at times.
Judging by the last two, I'd go Aguero as he has looked more dangerous, but it's pretty much 50/50

In fact as I'm not getting either of them I'd recommend people check the maps and stats themselves to help them choose between Aguero and Tevez. Its the most logical thing to do rather than randomly asking peoples opinions.

ok, the replies have been all over the place for my comment and i have a new plan anyways

so my original plan was (for dgw) to go rooney -> ade, sess -> pienaar, kelly -> baines for -8. but now i am thinking a city forward so rooney -> tevez/aguero (this week for -4), then sess -> pienaar, kelly ->6.0 defender (-8). so what do you think? stick with my plan, or get a "must have" city forward?

Lads, I'm very much in need of some solid opinion.

I depserately need a win in my $$$ head-to-head league this week. Regardless of the upcoming double GW etc what two (free) transfers do you think would benefit me the most??

    Current team:

    Vorm and Mig

    Komp Evans Caulk Kelly Simp

    Valencia Demp Sess Walcott Miyaichi

Roon RVP Ba (yes, I still have Ba)

    1.9 in the bank

    Cheers

          Dropping RVP 😯

Fancy him to outscore Rooney this w/e and I lose too much on him to bring him back for GW37. Being a gooner also prohibits such a move.

          Currently on
GW35: Valencia & Rooney -> Bale & Aguero (both free)
          GW36: Kompany & Sess -> Kaboul & Mata (4 point hit)

haha well I don't have Rooney as I chose to have Evra instead!

I'm in 2nd place in my league, can't really finish any lower unless I totally fall apart first place is 100 points ahead so can't really catch him either unless I do something ridicilous and Tevez scores 5 goals! 😛

For me, it's Carlitoooo all the way.

        1) Massive differential with huge upside potential. More risky, but more potential.
        2) Might be on penos/FKs as well. He’s just too good a spot-kick taker for Mancini to ignore.
        3) Selfish interest/motivation for Tevez, apart from Mancini’s push for the title.
        4) Partly, Aguero’s away troubles in the past.
        5) Leader on the field. Every attack seems to flow through him.

This debate is similar to the Rooney vs Hernandez debate in early season. But the fact that Rooney was the better player swayed it for most people. This one's closer to call, but you just have to remember the Tevez of last season and see his potential in FPL.

        Hope it helps!

Tevez of last season to see his potential? Ahem...
          Tevez 2010/11 = 2513 minutes, 21 goals, 6 assists, 185 points.
          Aguero 2011/12 = 2216 minutes, 21 goals, 8 assists, 189 points (and counting)
You can make similar points about Aguero too..

thats because there were no RVPs or rooneies or even dempsies last season.

i still think silva's improvement and nasri's addition have helped aguero in getting such a massive total

How can you compare this season's stats with last season?

Tevez was a one-man team last season (ala RVP of this season). Didn't have the same creativity and aggression they have this season. Silva was hardly as effective, Yaya/AJ were developing, no Nasri, Milner struggled to make simple passes when he was in a lean patch, etc....

Cheers. I don't really need a differential as I'm 9 points clear in my main ML, but if I did then yeah Tevez is a no brainer. I think Tevez is likely to go in the summer though right? To me that means Mancini still rates Aguero as his no1 striker, so stripping him of pens would seem weird, especially as (I think) he hasn't missed any.

Tevez unquestionably helps Aguero on the pitch, so that takes away Aguero's away form issue in my mind. Also, the heat maps and shot stats point to Aguero over the last 2. It's a very close call imo, but I think I'm going Aguero.

Acqua, I just popped out for some lunch. Back now

To be honest, I had decided on aguero for my team, and tevez for Mrs China Mag (for me tevez is more of a punt. But for higher potential reward). But she has just enough money to do Valencia + Rooney -> Silva + Aguero (can't afford tevez if she gets silva). I think that it is a sign!!

Sorry mate. Your memory is deceiving you.

We lost coloccini at half time with the score at 0-1. And didn't have a centre back on the bench

We hit the post/bar/cleared off line 3-4 times

We lost Steven Taylor (our other centre back) in the last few minutes, with the score still 0-1

Chelsea scored the final two goals in injury time, when we didn't have a centre half on the pitch!!

Also, we had raylor at left back who had an absolute mare.

We had peter lovenkrands playing. Not Dave!!!

Interesting point on 606 about Tevez. Apparently he has only started 8 games this season. Needs to play 10 to win a champions medal. Any chance mancini will only play him for one more game (man u), so he misses out on a medal as a kind of punishment? Ha. Highly unlikely I know. But then football is a funny old game........ Mancini did say Balotelli will return for the United match. Tevez will be sold this summer so why would he play him if say United win the title in GW36. People buying Tevez will only be doing so for this one fixture (possibly his last) against Wolves

Its a grid with all the teams and their fixtures lined up for the season. (its on the front page of FFS if you open it but it only has the next 6 games rather than the whole season)

It grades easy games and hard games for the whole season including home/away etc

I think I'm going to get Aguero & Bale this week. Personal preference for Aguero over Tevez, and I just have a sneaky feeling Bale will score big this week. I have P Cisse so have at least some NEW coverage if they go nuts against STO.

So, it would just be for the Double and beyond. I think Mata is a great pick, so long as he plays. If CHE are still in the hunt for 4th after this w/e then I might take a gamble and go for him. Also, if Luiz is out for a while, Cahill becomes very tempting too, especially given Terry's injury.

I dunno, he's young and very fit. I think he's capable of playing both games, and as we've seen, he's essential to the CHE attack. Unless CHE lose at Arsenal this week and Spurs and Newc both win, I expect him to start every game.

A few questions to ponder about:

      1) Assuming you have Cisse already, do you really think Newcastle's fixtures in 36-38 warrant doubling up with Barfa? wig che MCY eve (all tough fixtures, going by form)

      2) Even if Baines recovers in time for the first game in DGW, do you think Moyes wouldn't mind resting Baines for the 2nd game (only 3 days after) in case the hammy injury recurs.

      3) If we have more clarity on Luiz injury that he's out for longer (very possible), Cahill's an excellent option. Have you looked at VDV as an attacking option instead?

        1) Yep, already have Cisse. I would only consider Barfa if getting him this week as well. Swaying towards getting Bale over Barfa, so I think I've ruled Barfa out all together now.

        2) Could be right, although I think if fit, Baines will play both. Still not sure he's worth the 2.6m over Jags though.

        3) Agreed (per my post above to China). VDV - have considered and if I don't go Mata then I'll most likely go for VDV. Which do you prefer of the 2?

Ryan, nothing here about balotelli definitely starting against Man Utd. He will be back in contention and ready to play. That is all. That is my understanding of this comment anyway.

"I thought Mario would be banned for six or seven games, that's why I said he wouldn't play again this season," Mancini said. "He only got three games so I'm pleased for this. He will be back for Manchester United [on April 30]. He will be ready."

And this interview was before Tevez's hat trick.

There's no way Tevez is a rotation threat. He isn't dumb enough to ignore the fact that Tevez has rejuvenated City's title hopes. How many goals did they score without Tevez in their 9 previous away games? 6 goals. And they scored that against Norwich in ONE game. BOOM!

Ryan, you have to admit though that it's tempting to take a 1 week punt on an inform Citeh striker vs a team that have conceded 72goals this season(18 in their last 5 home games, if I can quote ENR).

Add to that that Doris de Vries might be making his Wol debut between the sticks....

For me it boils down to buying(AND CAPTAINING) a Citeh striker because I think he will score more than any of the current players I have.

So what if it's for only 1 fixture? I don't want Rooney for Citeh(a) anyway. And it won't be sacrificing a DGW player. Nothing stops me from getting in 2 DGW players for -4 in gw 36. We have all seen how important quantity is over quality in gw 34....

Most would probably just take a punt on Kun/Carlito for the Wolv game, captain them and hope they score much better than Rooney vs Eve. If they do well again then I imagine it might be better to own a Citeh striker at home to United then Rooney.

After gw 36 you sell again. The season is over. Play the fixtures.

I've no choice in defence...I'm putting all my eggs in one basket as I did earlier in the season...Vorm/Caulker rotates vs Krul/Simpson....unbelievable how well this has worked this year and It's the one thing I've learned this season.(Don't be scared to double up especially if it's dirt cheap. Ala Tosey)

So Krul/Simpson this week. Not sure about Verm at the moment. He is 1st sub for me at the moment. Playing Evans/Enrigue/Simpson.

..and yes, I'm mulling over one of Kun(not Tevez) and Silva in for Rooney/Walcott.

I'm waiting on news of Chel defence/Baines/Hennesey before I make that call.
