With just four Gameweeks left of the 2011/12 campaign, today’s Frisking article is the last of the season. Now that Gameweek 34 is over, we analyse that ever-diminishing Next Six Ticker in the sidebar. It’s a tricky one, though; while the eight sides with upcoming doubles feature prominently in our thinking, the fact that some have more to play for than others is another issue to consider:

The Strong

Tottenham

Sunday’s FA Cup exit means the fight for Champions League places will be firmly in Harry Redknapp’s thoughts over the last four Gameweeks of the season. A campaign that had promised so much could, potentially, end in bitter disappointment but a glance at the remaining schedule affords Spurs plenty optimism.

The Londoners face four of the bottom six over the next three Gameweeks, with trips to QPR and Villa on either side of a double Gameweek 36 (BLA, bol) which is bound to see significant interest in their Fantasy assets. Crucially, of the right teams with doubles ahead, Spurs have one of the strongest schedules, with a home game against travel-sick Fulham to see out the season after they pay visit to Villa. Despite a recent drop in returns, Gareth Bale and Emmanuel Adebayor’s attacking potential could prove prosperous, while Benoit Assou-Ekotto forward raids from left-back are likely to attract interest as Spurs look to end the season on a high. Rafael Van der Vaart’s recent return to form – two goals and an assist in his last five – suggests the Dutchman, with 5% ownership, could be a strong differential.

Bolton

Two back-to-back double Gameweeks affords Owen Coyle’s side the chance of an escape from the drop zone as the relegation battle heats up. There’s no doubt many Fantasy managers will be reluctant to invest in the Lancashire outfit, given their poor season, but three wins in the last five offers hope.

Gameweek 35 hands them a home clash against Swansea and a trip to Villa, while the following double looks a little trickier – a trip to Sunderland precedes the visit of Tottenham. The Trotters then see out the season by hosting West Brom before travelling to Stoke but, with Coyle’s side scrapping for their top-flight safety, they could upset the odds. Martin Petrov, with 19 points in his last four Gameweeks, looks the most secure of the Bolton midfield – factor in his likely spot-kick duties and a price of 5.1, and the Bulgarian seems the safest pick. Ryo Miyaichi has the potential but has been reduced to a sub role of late as Coyle looks to avoid fatigue.

Considering the Trotters have a single clean sheet since Gameweek 11, Adam Bogdan is likely to be good for save points alone – at 4.0, though, he still looks decent amongst budget bracket options, while David Wheater will need to grab the goals to justify investment. Up front, it looks grim. Coyle’s main forward, David Ngog, has notched twice all season, though skipper Kevin Davies started last time out and could force his way into the reckoning – his inclusion in the Bolton lineup could see him handed penalty duties ahead of Petrov.

Everton

The Merseysiders have been beaten just twice in the last thirteen Gameweeks in a typically resurgent second half of the campaign. David Moyes’ men will be keen to bounce back from their FA Cup Semi-Final disappointment and, aside from the upcoming trip to Old Trafford, have a decent schedule left to boost their chances of a seventh place finish in their tussle with neighbours Liverpool.

A double Gameweek with (FUL, sto) is followed by a trip to basement-dwellers Wolves, before the Toffees entertain Newcastle on the final day of the season. With five clean sheets in their last six Goodison games, 5.4 Tim Howard looks decent value, while Leighton Baines’ owners will be hoping he recovers from the hamstring strain that forced him off at the weekend. With attacking returns in each of his last three appearances, Steven Pienaar seems set for investment, while Nikica Jelavic’s clinical scoring looks particularly enticing, given his lowly 5.8 price tag.

Newcastle

A fourth place finish is still a definite possibility for the in-form Magpies. Alan Pardew’s side entertain Stoke this weekend on the back of a five-match winning run which has seen them concede a single goal; Tim Krul and Danny Simpson offer strong value , then. Papiss Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa’s outstanding recent attacking form is likely to see both attract major investment with double Gameweek 36 trips to Wigan and Chelsea, though, with showdowns against City and Everton to finish the campaign, the final two fixtures look tricky.

Also Consider

Fulham – a home clash against Wigan this weekend will tempt many with handing Clint Dempsey the armband, though the double Gameweek 36 trips to Everton and Liverpool lessens the Cottagers’ appeal a little. Mark Schwarzer could pick up the save points if Martin Jol’s side concede, then, before the Cottagers host Sunderland and travel to White Hart Lane in the final match of the season.

Liverpool – their league form has been dire of late but the FA Cup Semi-Final win over Everton may give the Reds a shot in the arm ahead of a run of three home games in the next three Gameweeks. Kenny Dalglish’s side host West Brom and Chelsea on either side of a double Gameweek 36 (FUL, nor) before finishing away to Swansea. Rotation is an issue with the FA Cup Final in mind, but the potential is there for points – Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel could prosper at the back, while Luis Suarez has shown strong home form, picking up returns in each of his last three at Anfield.

Stoke – Tony Pulis’ side may have little but pride to play for, but the Potters are hardly renowned for taking it easy. This weekend’s trip to Newcastle is far from straightforward but Stoke then have three home games and a trip to QPR in the final three Gameweeks. Given they have dropped just two points at the Britannia in their last four, the double Gameweek 36 visit of Arsenal and Everton affords them a chance to upset the odds. Peter Crouch – with three goals in his last four at home – could be a decent differential with less than 3% ownership, Robert Huth’s recent return to goalscoring form offers potential at both ends of the pitch, while Asmir Begovic’s 4.5 price looks decent value.

Aston Villa – an upcoming double Gameweek 35 sees the midlands outfit host both Sunderland and Bolton, with the likes of James Collins looking strong at the back. Andreas Weimann could be a decent cut-price option up front, while Fantasy managers looking for a wild gamble may well consider Stephen Ireland.

Chelsea – Roberto Di Matteo’s side have three strong home games before the season ends but with the Blues fighting on three fronts, rotation is likely to be a nightmare for Fantasy managers. Nevertheless, we can’t ignore (QPR, NEW) in double Gameweek 36 or the final game of the season, as Blackburn roll up to the Bridge. Juan Mata is likely to receive plenty investment but, with David Luiz and Gary Cahill both injury worries, investment at the back would be at a premium price for the likes of John Terry and Ashley Cole.

The Weak

QPR

While Mark Hughes’ outfit have surpassed recent expectations at home with three back-to-back Loftus Road wins, Fantasy managers are likely to give them a wide berth over the remainder of the season. Adel Taarabt, in particular has come to the fore with attacking returns in each of those wins but, with Spurs and Stoke the final two visitors, the R’s may struggle in their attempt for survival. Trips to Chelsea and City are far from enticing, given that the London outfit have picked up a mere two points on the road in their last eleven.

Norwich

Their top-flight safety assured, Paul Lambert’s side were battered at home by City last time out. The Canaries now travel to a Blackburn side scrapping for survival and also make their way to the Emirates in Gameweek 37 – both games could easily see them leave empty-handed. Home games against Liverpool and Aston Villa looks a little more prosperous but with two wins in their last nine at Carrow Road, many will be steering well clear.

West Brom

The Baggies remaining four fixtures arguably hands them one favourable fixture. A home clash with Villa in Gameweek 36 offers the chance to continue a run that has brought four wins at the Hawthorns in the last five, though a visit from Arsenal on the final day of the season seems far from straightforward. Given that Roy Hodgson’s side have picked up a single point in their last four on the road, trips to Liverpool and Bolton are likely to pose problems.

Also be Wary of

Blackburn – Steve Kean’s side are starting to get that sinking feeling – it’s five straight losses now for Rovers as the drop looks more inevitable as the weeks go by. Currently, there are doubts over frontmen Yakubu and Junior Hoilett, after both limped out of the 3-0 drubbing at Swansea- the pair’s absence is likely to be the tipping point as relegation edges closer. Trips to Spurs and Chelsea offer no appeal, while home games with Norwich and Wigan may be little too late, particularly if their first-choice strike force are unavailable.

Sunderland without a goal in their last three fixtures, the Blacks Cats seems to have hit an end-of-season slump. The likes of Stephane Sessegnon and Nicklas Bendtner have been woefully out of sorts in recent matches and now face Villa and Bolton in the next two – with both their opponents scrapping for survival, Martin O’Neill’s powers of persuasion will be needed to rally the troops. Sunderland then travel to Fulham and host United on the final Gameweek of the campaign, suggesting that points at both ends of the pitch may be hard to come by.

    Hello..

First working day after a long summer break in Bangkok.
It's good to have some works distracted me from DGW plan.. 🙂
I'm undecided if it's worth to transfer HBA in for this gameweek.

    My current front 8 are:

    Valencia - Siggy - Sess. - Walcott - Bale
    Rooney - RvP - Aguero

And I plan to do Walcott > Dempsey and play this team.

    Valencia - Siggy - Dempsey - Bale .. (Sess.)
    Rooney - RvP - Aguero

Should I also do Sess > HBA for a hit? Who should I bench if I do it?

Seems to be a lot of talk about people doing Rooney to Tevez/Aguero/Ade/Cisse/anyone else! this week.

I know City have Wolves but Everton at home's not the worst game in the world. Also although Rooney hasn't played great in the last few he's got 8 goals in his last 5 home games with no blanks.

I was thinking of captaining him, bad move? Also why Rooney out rather than RVP? RVP's only got 2 goals in his last 6 or 7...

    UTD: EVER city SWAN sund

37 points ahead in my ML with 4 rounds to go, but #2 got his WC left. 600£ to the winner, so kinda nervous now.

#2 also got Cisse in his lineup, and that is making me sweat abit. Want to get Cisse inn for Rooney(I think) in gw.36, but would it be better to just do that transfer now? Have also considered a punt on the City duo, but want Cisse for the dgw, and can't see any of them putting alot of goals behind De Gea.

OK folks here it is Part 1 of the DGW analysis, position by position.

    Goalkeepers - Part 1 - The Doublers

It is often said, don't take a hit for a keeper. Well one could maybe throw this out of the windown, as a decent DGW keeper could very easily make back the 4 points. You could always just look at the keeper as being your FT, and any other moves being the hit, if you want to feel more comfortable. With that out of the way let's examine who we might want in DGW.

Brad Friedel. The Spurs keeper has been an outstanding success since his move from Villa, as is among the highest scoring keepers in FPL, sitting behind only Fantasy sensation Michel, Vorm, Joe Hart, Penalty-save king Krul, and level with scoring keeper supreme Tim Howard.

Pros - With the best fixtures of the DGW and 2 fairly simple looking fixtures afterwards at goal-shy Villa and at home to travel-sick Fulham, Friedel could serve any owners very well until the end of the season. He has over 100 saves to his name, so he may also offer the added benefit of a save point or 2.

Cons - Spurs' defence has looked shaky recently, especially v Norwich and Chelsea, and this perhaps makes any investment in them risky if you do not own a player already. That being said, the return of Kabloul to the heart of the defence could help bring about a turn-around. In addition, investment in Friedel uses up one of those precious Spurs slots. With interest in all 3 of the Spurs Holy Trinity in attack high, a move for Friedel automatically means one of Bale, VdV or Adebayor must be sacrificed. Kaboul, Gallas and King are also all cheaper than Friedel.

Conclusion. Probably the pick of the DGW keepers but beware the pitfalls.

Tim Krul - Another keeper sure to attract interest, Newcastle have been one of, if not the, surprises of the season, and 13 clean sheets has seen the Dutchman rise to 2nd in the keepers standings, he is just shy of 100 saves this season, and boasts 2 penalty saves to boot.

Pros - Newcastle look good value for clean sheets and Krul has racked up plenty of saves that make him a worthy candidate for a DGW slot. At 5 million he is also cheap and this could free up funds to be spent elsewhere in the DGW.

Cons - a tricky looking run starts in DGW and ends with the season. A trip to Wigan looked like a great fixture until a few weeks ago. However, Wigan have now begun their great escape act and are one the form sides of the league, making the fixture much more difficult. A trip to Chelsea follows and who knows what that may bring, with Chelsea fighting for 4th place, but also with an FA Cup final a few days later, who knows what Chelsea we will see. After this comes a visit from a City side who may still be chasing the title, and then a visit to an Everton side known to finish strongly and looking to place above Liverpool. Also, despite being 5 million he is still the most expensive route into that Newcastle defence.

Conclusion - If you own him, play him, if you don't look elsewhere for Newcastle coverage, or stick with what you have.

Asmir Begovic - The Bosnian is back in favour at the Brit and is another keeper who seems ripe for investment, particularly from disgruntled Sorensen owners. Stoke are generally tight defensively, especially at home, which is where both their DGW fixtures are.

Pros - Won't concede many as Stoke are known for their defensive qualities. At 4.6 he is also a very cheap option, that may allow us to go all out on attack for the DGW. Stoke also have 2 attractive looking fixtures in 37 and 38 with a visit to a QPR side that could be down by then, and a visit from a Bolton side for whom the same could be said.

Cons - Sorensen. Will he make a comeback? Unlikely but possible. Stoke haven't been as reliable as normal this season for clean sheets and maybe there are better ways into their defence than him, regardless of his price tag.

Petr Cech - The big keeper has not has his best season, but remains one of the top keepers in the league, and can win games on his own with the saves he makes.

Pros - as we all discuss possible rotation at Chelsea over DGW with the cup final and maybe a CL final to look towards, one thing is certain, the one guy most definitely not at risk of rotation is Cech, he will play both games for sure. QPR at home seems like a nailed-on CS, justifying any hit straight away.

Cons - Chelsea have not been reliable at the back this season, although that has improved under RDM, and with Ivanovic suspened for the first game of the DGW, Chelsea may be seriously under-strength for the QPR game. Also factor in the fact that they play Liverpool in GW37 (in the midweek after the cup final most likely) and there could be some tired legs in that side. There is also the fact that, at 6.8, he is an expensive route into Chelsea's defence, but JT and Cashley both cost more. If Ivanovic was available for both games, he would be a better option.

Tim Howard - A scorer in the first DGW of the season, Howard maintains a strong presence in the keeper rankings and is a popular choice given his form and Everton's compactness and organisation.

Pro's - 5.4 million is a decent price for a keeper with (FUL,sto, wol, NEW) to finish the season. He has been reliable most of the season and has 2 penalty saves to his name.

Cons - Well not many tbh, other than perhaps Everton not assured of many cleanies. He is priced similarly to Jagielka, Distin and Heitinga, but is more nailed on than both.

Conclusion - If you decide you want Baines, and don't want to double up on Pienaar and Jelavic then Howard is a great choice and probably the 2nd best option, just don't buy him this week.

Pepe Reina - Another previously popular pick, his red card v Newcastle, put pay to 3 games for him, 2 of which have now passed, meaning he's back and ready for DGW.

Pros - Pretty much the same as Cech. One of the best in the league when on form, and nailed on to play both DGW fixtures (perhaps only Skrtel can say the same in the Liverpool squad). Although he has not displayed it this season, Reina has also established an excellent reputation for saving penalties.

Cons - As those of us who have owned Skrtel and/or Enrique have discovered to our cost, Liverpool have not been as great at the back since Christmas as they were before it (will the return of Agger help this?)
At 6.4 million, Skrtel, Agger and Enrique can all be acquired for less. Then there is the matter of Chelsea in GW37. Torres to score at Anfield ❓ (seems like the only place he can score)

Conclusion - Maybe worth an investment if you want Liverpool coverage and don't trust rotation, or Suarez, or both.

Mark Schwarzer - The Australian has enjoyed a fine - albeit, injury interrupted -season. He remains a top keeper who tends to deliver plenty of save points to accompany the odd clean sheet. Let's not forget that before his injury he was behind only Vorm in the keeper standings.

Pros - Given that Fulham have a woeful away record, and both fixtures in DGW are away, there could be some save points on offer. Schwarzer also has a penalty save to his name and has a very nice rotation with that man Vorm. He also has 2 home games either side of DGW, though the Wigan game no longer looks as attractive as it once did. At less than 5 million he also represents a bit of a bargain, with only Kelly offering any security in the Fulham defence for less.

Cons - That away form again. It makes clean sheets unlikely. Much depends on what mood Everton are in the first fixture, and what Liverpool team lines-up in the second. Also there is Fulham's knack of conceding goals in the last 5 minutes of games that leaves many of pulling our hair out.

Conclusion - Much like Krul, if you own him, play him, if you don't look elsewhere.

Adam Bogdan - Perhaps the most interesting of all the options. A DDGW looks attractive, as does a price tag of just 4 million, the flame-haired Hungarian could see an increase in investment in the next 2 weeks.

Pros - You've pretty much had them. He has a DGW this GW, and another next week and is just 4 million, freeing up a hefty chunk of cash to spend elsewhere. He also has a penalty save, and, given that he plays for Bolton, is likely to get a fair few save points.

Cons - He plays for Bolton, which means a clean sheet is very unlikely. Will Coyle recall the Finn? Probably not, but he may chose to do so if he fancies some rotation with 4 games in a week.

Conclusion - If you want to save some cash and want some Bolton for DDGW then Bogdan is your man.

Few minor additions. Sorenson will make a comebakc we just don't know exactly when - avoid both of them IMO - http://www.clubcall.com/stoke-city/sorensen-in-line-to-return-1414879.html

And it's only a minor point but having seen Fridel face a couple of penalties this year theres no way he's saving one. He's still great for an old man but from the spot he's getting beat by anything but the worst attempts.

      Great post though.

For someone with the Vorm/Mignolet combination, both of whom have good fixtures for GW36 but not afterwards, I'm wondering whether it's worth bringing in Howard or Friedel for the double gameweek but mainly to keep for GW37-38. Che ne dite?

Everyone should be disgusted by Al-Habsi claim he was using a tactic when he time wasted or Gary Neville's claim that diving is "part of the game". I have friends here at home who snidely crack football/soccer isn't worth watching because of that and I am getting pretty tired of defending this BS.

I watched it on Sky, Neville wasn't saying 'it's part of the game now, and that's fine'. He was saying 'it's part of the game now, so very difficult to eradicate.'

What sports do they follow that have no cheating whatsoever in? Golf and snooker are the only 2 I can think of.

Very hard to make decision with this combo:

    1. Gerrard + Jelevic
    2. Pinneer + Adebayor
    3. HBA + Torres

Think I'm going to leave it at 7 DGW players for a hit.

How does this team look for GW36?

    Krul

    Baines - Caulker - Cashley

    Bale - Pienaar - Dempsey - Sess - Siggy

    Cisse - Adebayor

    Subs: RVP, Turner, Evans

I *could* do Sess to someone like Mata instead of Verm > Cashley but not sure if it's worth it?

      Looks aaaight.

RVP being on the bench seems so strange, but it makes sense.

Sensible yes. Risky, defo! I'd chicken out and play RVP over Siggy. And actually will do so...

Is that not 8 DGW players? Nice looking team anyway.

    Pondering these transfers........

    GW35: Walcott + RVP ➡ Dempsey + Tevez(C)

    GW36: Vermaelen + Valencia + Tevez ➡ Baines + Pienaar + Adebayor -8pts (8 DGWers)

    GW37: Sessegnon + Adebayor ➡ Moses + RVP.

With only 3 dgw players for gw36 so far is it worth doing a hit this weekend to get dempsey in?

      tricky...
Baines for attacking potential (pennas as well)
      Cole for better fixtures...
      I'd prob go with Baines
