FFS Cup

The latest FFS Cup fixtures and results

The draws for the sixth round of the FFS Members Cup and the seventh round of the FFS Cup have taken place following the completion of Gameweek 21.

We’re down to the final 16 Fantasy managers in both tournaments after the New Year’s Day round of fixtures.

FFS CUP

The results from the sixth round of the open-to-all 2019/20 FFS Cup are available by clicking here.

The seventh round draw in full can be accessed here.

Our highest-ranked manager in round six (more of whom below) made it through to the round of 16.

Teddy Brewski, still chasing a cup double, beat robharr to progress to the next stage.

He will play TOMYG84 in round seven.

Our only all-top 10k clash in Gameweek 22 sees Mataatti take on Leggend2: this is the former’s third successive meeting with a manager inside the top 10,000 at the point of the tie.

Our only two remaining site users who lie outside the top 100k and who remain in the FFS Cup, stamfordbridge and A Team Has No Name, meet each other in the last 16.

FFS MEMBERS CUP

The scores from the fifth round of the 2019/20 FFS Members Cup are available by clicking here.

The sixth round draw in full can be accessed here.

An impressive four of our remaining 16 managers – including the aforementioned Teddy Brewski – are currently inside the top 1k.

Our highest-ranked entrant left in either competition remains at 14th in the world after Gameweek 21.

frankiem, who first entered the top 1k four months ago, defeated Emm7980 and will meet prbaker1980 in the sixth round.

ActorJeff and BeckerCallSaul, who have overall ranks of 388th and 586th respectively, also progressed.

The aforementioned TeddyBrewski saw off moderator TorresMagic in the first Gameweek of 2020 and will next play robharr – who he coincidentally defeated in round six of the FFS Cup.

    Re. GW24, couple of questions,

    1. Anyone NOT using their TC chip, of so, why?

    2. Anyone considering WHU players? If so, who?

2 not really, only tempted by Fabs for save points

        2. I was slightly tempted by Masuaku, or Zabaleta as a cheap punt. Also Haller, as I’m looking at a budget striker to replace Kane with....but probably too many other tempting options.

      1. No plans to use to it as of now. I think Vardy or Kevin will have better set of fixtures. Have one issue though, BB/FH will have to be used in a SGW if there are only 2 more double.

      2. None.

        1. Interesting. Obviously we don’t know how the rest of the season will look for blanks and doubles, but I remember last year holding off using my TC when city had a DGW in January time, and then not having an opportunity to use it again on a DGW.

I just can’t imagine ever having a better opportunity than a Liverpool double game week, when the fixtures are pretty much a week apart, with minimal chance of rotation.

      1) No because I've already wasted it on Sterling's blank vs an injury hit Norwich city
      2) Not really

Using a TC chip on 2 away games might not be so good.
Even though rotation will be limited it could happen, especially after the Pool kids performance last night.
      Elliot might get game time.

I think the fact Klopp played the reserves in a Merseyside derby shows the cup is not even on his radar this season, which I was surprised about, but good for FPL.

Very much expecting Liverpool to go full strength in both games. Yes they’re not dream fixtures, but this Liverpool team is destroying everyone.

Every year people pass up decent opportunities to use their triple captain chip in order to 'save' it, then end up using it on somebody like Andy Carroll or Shane Duffy! Used mine on Salah in GW1 but would certainly be using it now if I had it.

Thank you for reminding me about the time people TC Carroll. That was glorious.

Not really, but we'll have somewhat of an idea I believe. I'll keep it in mind but I'll let the fixture guru's do their thing instead of trying to guess myself.

I suppose the only thing we’ll have to go on will be the difficulty of the Leicester 4th round draw, and likelihood of them progressing.

Yeah, good for KdB if it looks like City will go through.

I just think it’s too good an opportunity not to captain one of the Liverpool attackers.

I’m actually concerned about how much potential rotation we could get around the latter DGWs if the league is won, and teams like Liverpool and City are still competing in Europe...or Leicester in the cup, or Utd and Arsenal in the europa league.

      1. Will TC I think. 99% on Salah.
      2. Would only really consider Noble due to pens but that has 2 x 2 pointers written all over it - or any WHM pick tbh. Maybe suspension/injury too to enforce a -4 GW 25

        1. Which Liverpool player is a different talking point altogether, and probably something that will be HT nearer the time, but just the idea of not using the TC chip at all was what I wanted to ask.

        2. Noble is an option I guess, in my team he’d be replacing Grealish, and he’s got Watford at home that week, so unlikely to do that. My considerations would be a punt on one of the 4.2 defenders, Masuaku, or Zabaleta (if Fredericks is injured longer term), they can just go on the bench and rotate with my other fodder after that.

      1. In two minds - not bowled over by the fixtures - Wolves reserves blunted pool at Anfield last week... The Moyesiah will make West Hamm horrible to play against... Champions league & stuff may not be conducive to two starts for all the key pool assets... In short : there will Shirley be better weeks

      2. Flappy is already on board, no more beyond him unless they do something mental in GW22/23

      1. HamezMace
        • 9 Years

Will there be better weeks though?
I thought that last season when I avoided using TC on Man City in January, and then had to use it on a SGW player because I used my WC and BB on the other doubles.

        Same, already have Fabianski.
Tempted by a cheap defender if one emerges.

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus

Yes there is a very high likelihood, almost overwhelming in fact, that there will be a better week, and probably even better week(s) plural - especially given the limitations of GW24 I mentioned above

Massive FOMO-Driven DGW-itis is clouding the judgement of the hive-mind act the minute - Firmino price rise is a sign that things are already moving swiftly in the direction of insanity...

And we're still 2 weeks out from the DGW 🙂

Nothing to suggest Salah can't hattrick vs Wolves and/or West Ham away of course, he could do that in literally any fixture he's that good

            • 9 Years

I’m sure I remember thinking that last season, but then I needed to use my WC on one of the doubles, and my BB on the other...then TC was forced on a single game week...and yes of course any player can haul in a single game week, but I prefer having that cushion.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Every season is its' own animal & it's entirely situational - wouldn't get too hung up on a DGW in last season somehow pre-determining anything in this season 🙂

If you look at DGW24 and see it as unquestionably the best week for TC that is likely to occur this season, then it's definitely TC time and vice-versa 😉

              Best of luck!

                Yeah I think I do.
                Liverpool playing unbelievable.
Fixtures are a week apart, and given the cup team he picked to play a derby I expect Salah and Mane to be rested.
Impossible to know what might occur later in the season.

Yep - they could be good outcomes - but the way Wolves reserves contained Liverpool at Anfield combined with the instant boost that Moyes brought to West Ham have really put me off going near it - my own hunch is that it will be a disappointment for TC'ers which is why I'm in two minds and leaning strongly towards holding off...

But that could be very wrong of course and Salah has all the ingredients to haul in any GW - Single or Double...

                  Good luck with your decision!

      1. I wasn't really, but if Milner's injury keeps him out of the picture then Salah nailed on pens becomes a very attractive option IMO.

      2. Only Fabs, and only if I have a FT to burn. I'd want Hendo back soon after.

      1. It would be a no brainer if the fixtures were better. 2 away matches are not attractive. Hammers seem a lot tighter at the back with Fab back and Wolves at home.... tough tough cookie.

      2. Not really, no. The only one eventually would be the keeper but than burning 1 FT when I got Hendo... no.

I agree the fixtures aren’t great, but Liverpool are a different animal.
Look what they did to Leicester away a couple of weeks ago.

I think it’s more risky to gamble on there being a better time to use TC...especially if you also need to use BB on one of the other DGWs.

      1. Using it.

      2. I have already bought in Ogbonna (Who got me 6 points last GW) and am bringing in Haller for Kane. I like to take a punt on DGW players and West Ham have pretty much fixtures either side of the DGW too. Pretty risk free at their prices.

        2. I’m a sucker for a DGW too, and was looking very much at Haller as my Kane replacement. I can only congratulate you for taking the punt, and going against the crowd. I don’t think I’m that brave.

      Player: Kevin De Bruyne

Is it time for him to go after couple of weeks? Especially for those who are chasing, want double LIV mid but dont have cash.

      - From GW24 to GW32, Man City will face shu, tot, lei, che, manu in away games.
      - David Silva is also back which may have impact on his position.
      - Likely to have couple of blanks as well.
      - Fixtures improve just in time when we will probably be playing WC.

WHM and BUR at home during this period is obviously a concern but there is an opportunity to make some gain I guess

Pros & Cons for using 'pool TC chip in gw24
Time to completely jump off spurs assets or will Son & Alli shine in Kane's absence

      1) Does the return of Son present a massive differential to climb the ranks or is better to avoid Spurs?

      2) Is Salah's away form a worry given that both DGW games are away. He has only a single goal and 3 assists in away games all season and his output away from home even last season was much lower than at Anfield.

      TEAM: Aston Villa

      - How will Wesley's and Heaton's injuries affect Aston Villa and, from an FPL perspective, Jack Grealish?
      - They seemed to have found a system against Burnley which suited them (kind of a 3-4-3), which shored up their defence somewhat and also allowed Grealish to flourish when playing off Wesley. With Wesley injured, can Kodija/a different striker play this role and still get the best out of Grealish?
      - Does Wesley's injury now mean Grealish is on penalties (therefore increasing his points potential)?
      - After this GW against City, Villa sit 4th on the Season Ticker over the next 6 so the fixtures are favourable.

They will concede more goals and score fewer. Target your players / captains against them.

I think I agree with this. I have Grealish though and, while the City fixture is off-putting, I think I'm going to stick with him. They'll still need to score goals and have some favourable fixtures, and even more emphasis will surely now be placed on Grealish to assist/score. Still think he's great FPL value, even more so if he's now on penalties.

Sometimes we are guilty of overthinking things. Heaton is a good goalkeeper and they were still pretty bad with him. Wesley hasn't been great and only contributed 5 goals. With Kodija their only fit forward, and McGinn out for months, all of the goalscoring burden will fall on Grealish. I've had him since GW16 and he's dug me out of a few holes. Happy to have him as first sub for the foreseeable future.

No he's definitely not the worst in that regard. The fixtures are good, he's the talisman and he's cheap. Just how long can he keep producing rabbits from hats though? I've got a strong front 8, so either him or my 3rd striker get benched every week. I'd either have to start him or reduce him to a non-playing mid if I was to pursue Salah. That's why I'm going to go double Liverpool defence, I like the balance of my side.

You can ask the same questions of Newcastle. They have not been very solid at the back recently at the best of times and for the foreseeable future they will have to field a backline comprising John Burridge, Nobby Solano's maiden aunt and a couple of ball boys. Are they the team to target?

        Defences coming back into fashion...

Arsenal have a cracking run of fixtures and the full-team-press model seems to be working for them provided they can maintain their fitness levels. Maitland-Niles is looking particularly appealing at 4.6m, especially given his attacking qualities.

West Ham meanwhile have just kept consecutive clean sheets for the first time since 1902. They don't have the best fixtures but they do have cheap players and a (albeit unattractive) DGW coming up. Moyes was always decent at setting up solid "hard to break down" teams in his Everton days.

I had considered Rico but I feel he's more nailed than Kelly (what with Joel Ward apparently returning this month), has some attacking potential at least, and Palace's injury problems seem to be mounting even more now after yesterday's game.

The FA Cup draws this weekend throw a whole new dimension in to FPL planning. With a replay to play in a couple of weeks does this impact your FPL thoughts? Do you worry more about picking Man United, Wolves, Watford and Spurs as a result of the extra game and rotation worries?

      1. OleGGMU
        • 5 Years
        4 years, 2 months ago

Dont own any utd or watford. Think regarding the replays that certain players will be a bit more nailed on than others for League games. Wolves will certainly limit traore ans jimenez involvement in the fa cup as they have europa and the pl aswell. Probably see jimenez and traore more in the league where the race for europe spots is very tight. Id expect similar from Man Utd regarding martial and rashford. Greenwood will probably cover for James or Martial. Rashford i can see playing with minutes managed unless Ole, switches martial to the left with greenwood up front gaining rash a rest or off the bench minutes.

Utd and spurs are desperate to move up the league table whilst getting a cup aswell. Utd will be forgiven if they can nab a top fpir and have a good Europa run.
Spurs need a trophy. Mourinho needs redemption and spurs have to show progression. The new stadium, sacking long term manager in poch and players being disillusioned will mean a strong push for the fa cup and top 4 so i can see moura, son and alli being nailed with eriksen and lamela rotating on the right now.
The kane injury for me locks moura but ofcourse son and alli or just son could play upfront.

Thoughts in Spurs attack going forward ? Moura more likely to cover upfront?

Fair points. Wolves though used Traore and Doherty for 90 mins v United so Nuno isn't scared to play his first teamers in the FA Cup. Even Jiminez came on at half time because Nuno wanted to win. I think theres an element of Wolves wanting to make amends for the semi final defeat last season.

With Spurs I agree with everything you said, however the main issue for Spurs is how they've resorted to long ball uncreative football since Mourinho took over. Which is making everyone understandably reluctant to invest in them or their attack, whoever is playing.

Son up top with Moura & Dele, more game time for Eriksen if he is still a Spurs player by the end of the window, Lamela could be a good option as could Lo Celso depending on minutes and what we see from Mourinho in terms of PL line ups. There’s definitely options and ones to keep on the radar - question is can we trust them?!

100% agree smaller squads, less ability to rotate, tired players with fixture congestion = FPL headache!

        Interesting point.

Watford I'm not too concerned about as they fielded the reserves in the first match and are playing Tranmere, so I think Pearson will play a mostly second string again. The league and FA cup are all Watford have anyway so not much rotation pressure on them. I certainly wouldn't let it put me off buying Watford players.

Spurs are interesting, I was astonished at the strength of the side they put out against Middlesbrough, and even then they still couldn't win. So Mourinho now has an unwanted extra fixture, hasn't made it through, and has tired all his players out for the Liverpool match. Great management. Rotation in GW22,23, or 24 is to be expected now I think, or if not, then they'll be too tired to perform anyway. Time to get off Spurs players.

Wolves and Man Utd play each other of course, Wolves have had a lot of fixtures this season but they took the game v Utd fairly seriously so don't see why they wouldn't again. Players being benched in the league is an option although we may see managed minites rather than full scale rotation with them.

Man utd I see as the most at risk of rotation. Not only have they got this replay, they also have a league cup semi v City this midweek (surely a full strength side is put out), and the second semi between GW24 and 25 (a potential FA cup 4th round tie would also fall in this period). So thats no midweeks off until Feb. Managed minutes and rotation is possible for any of their players in GW22 to GW25, or if not, risk of injuries and fatigue and/or tired performances.

Palace are losing defenders and not keeping clean sheets as they once were. You'd expect Arsenal to score.

      Hey, what's your move here?

      A) Alli & Rashford > Mane & DCL (I should probably wait with Rashford playing NOR)?
      B) Rico > Holgate (and wait with the double move until next week)?
      C) Alli > Richarlison
      D) Alli & Rico > Richarlison & Gomez

2 FT, team right now is:

      Guaita
      TAA Soyuncu Lundstram
      Salah KDB Alli Maddison
      Vardy Rashford Ings

      4 Cathcart Rico Dendo

Hey guys.....which of these 4 options look best?

      4-4-2
      Gazzaniga McGovern
      Robertson TAA Söyüncü Lundstram Kelly
      Salah KDB Maddison Alli Dendoncker
      Vardy Rashford Greenwood

      1) Save FT

      2) Alli to Richarlison

      3) Gazzaniga to Ryan/Foster

      4) Alli to Grealish (allowing Greenwood to Ings next week and back to 3-4-3)

Perhaps consider Pope to McCarthy. Not the best fixture this week but thereafter a sweet run.

        b) Grealish Rico -> Dendo VVD
        c) Alli Rico -> Richarlison Gomez

        Ramsdale
        Taa Soy Lundstram
        Maddison Mane Kdb Alli

really tempted to wildcard in the enxt week or two as about 100 points behind in ML. Worth doing it? current team for this week with 2 FT's to use is:

        Gazza

        Soyuncu / Rico / Lundstram

        Alli / Grealish / KDB / Mane

        Rashford / Vardy / Aguero

        BUtton / Kelly / Taregtt / Dendonker

Correct me if I`m wrong, please. If I make 3-4 transfers for (-8), confirm them. Two days later play wildcard = previous points hit cleared?

        Hello

2FT 0.3itb. No idea what I’ll do ahead of next game week...

        One of the following?
        1. Aurier > Gomez
        2. Somehow to squeeze Salah in for DGW
        3. Alli to Maddison
        4. Something else

What would you consider doing ahead of deadline?

        Henderson
        Soyuncu, Lundstram, Taa,
        Mane, Kdb, Alli, Moura,
        Vardy, Abraham, Rashford

        Sub: Martin, Aurier, Kelly, Cantwell

In the same boat, actually with only 1FT I'm going to save this week and play Alli and bench Aurier. If Alli gets points OOP against Liv a lot of sellers will be hoping their replacement Rich/Madd etc. matches him.
However with 3 spurs you certainly need to bin one...

Over the next couple of weeks for no hits:

        Alli/Aurier/Traore to:

        A) VVD, Maddison, Rich
        B) Robbo, Rich, 7.5 (Antonio?)
        C) Salah, Holgate, 5.8 (keep Traore?)

        Have TAA, Mane

sell aurier now and roll FT for next week to get rid of a UTD asset and replace with a Liv one?

        Hendo Button
        TAA rico aurier dunk lunds
        mane martial kdb grealish cantwell
        vards rash ings

        Ramsdale.
        TAA, Soyuncu, Holgate.
        Grealish, KDB, Mane, Salah.
        Maupay, Abraham, Vardy.
        Stek, Lundstram, Dendoncker, Kelly.
        2ft's, 0.0m.

Thinking of just moving Kelly out for Williams. Saves a little bit of cash. I am not bothered whether he becomes nailed or not. 3rd sub anyway.

        1. Just Kelly -> Williams/ Gibson (filler position) this GW and re-assess.
        2. Kelly -> Williams/ Gibson + Maupay -> DCL.
        3. Other move(s).
