With just four Gameweeks left of the season, Fantasy managers are looking at every viable option available as a means to climb up the rankings and win that crucial mini-league title. Many will be throwing caution to the wind at this point in order to claw back their rivals’ leads and, with plenty of double Gameweeks on the horizon, even Aston Villa’s assets are coming under scrutiny.

Let’s face it – the midlands outfit have hardly been the most potent of Fantasy sides this term. The fact that Gabby Agbonlahor is still their top scoring player despite returning a single assist since Gameweek 11 speaks volumes for their insipid season. As the likes of Wigan have recently shown, however, there’s potential near the bottom of the table as teams scrap for survival and, with two home clashes in Gameweek 35, Villa are blinking – albeit briefly – on Fantasy managers’ radars ahead of the weekend’s schedule.

The hunt for options amongst the midlands squad leads us to James Collins. A look at his recent home performances highlights the fact that the Villa centre-half has returned at least six points in two of his last three at Villa Park – a clean sheet against Fulham and a goal against Chelsea. While Villa may have shipped four at United last weekend, they’ll be more optimistic heading into their games against Sunderland and Bolton – Martin O’Neill’s side have failed to score in their last three, while Bolton have been almost as poor in attack, with no goals in their previous two matches.

So far this week, over 10,000 Fantasy managers have taken a punt on the 5.3 priced defender, an indication of the faith held in his potential. Collins’ game also seems suited to the EA SPORTS PPI scoring system; he’s picked up a total of 12 bonus points over the course of the campaign – only six defenders have earned more this term.

With regular sidekick Richard Dunne still out with a collarbone injury, Collins’ resilience and will-to-win in the heart of the Villains backline will be key over these next crucial two matches. McLeish will be more than aware that back-to-back victories would all but clinch their survival and somewhat endear him to the home faithful, thus relieving the pressure ahead of their remaining three fixtures (wba, TOT, nor).

I think there is value in there.

Especially if Villa are playing defensive they should get at least one clean sheet. I'm thinking Warnock or Collins could get at least 7 points, justifying the 4point hit if I sell a 2pt earning defender.

I could bring in 1 for for free but I want to have 2 transfers for gwk36.. Looking at the fixtures though for almost anyone else it would be a great dgwk..

They will surely keep 1 clean sheet I reckon!

This is the logic of someone trying to convince themselves.

"They should get at least one clean sheet" = "They could, but probably won't"

A hit for a Villa defender is madness, especially if you have a playing defender. You'd be very lucky to even break even in my opinion.

Also, done Rooney -> Tevez last night! I think it is worth the risk, both are scoring machines so shouldn't lose out on too much. Whoever I get in will be replaced by possibly Ade for the double so for this 1 off match I think Tevez has greater potential to run riot than Rooney..

Yeah, Tevez is a proven World Class striker so it shouldn't really be looked upon as a risk. The only risk is that Rooney has a home match but I can't see United getting more than 1/2 goals whereas City could easily knock in 4/5/6..

Im worried about the same thing. Especially as he is on loan and with nothing to play for, Brendan (this may sound daft) will not want he scoring more goals and therefore increasing his potential transfer value. Its a possibility.

Contemplating an 8 pointer next week to get 9 DGWers - excessive?

Would depend on Luiz's injury (and hence Cahill's rotation) but looking at something like:

    BOGDAN
    CAHILL, BAE, SKRTEL
    LAMPARD, DEMPSEY, BALE, Siggy
    ADEBAYOR, P CISSE, Rvp

    Migs, Valencia, Caulker, JEvans

Haha, It's possible but unlikely I reckon. Bogdan should be good for a minimum of 4 points (assuming 1 save point each game), plus he could grab a cleanie. Migs HAS to get a CS to beat Bogdan.

The way I see it is there is no point adding up the total number of hit points. Look at each of the trades individually. A 44 point hit is fine if you adjudge that each of your transfers will leave you more than 4 pts better off. Does that make sense?

Yeah, the fringe transfers here are Lampard and Cahill, so the matchups are

        a) Sess (BOL) + 4 points Vs Lampard (QPR/NEW)
        b) Caulker (WOL) + 4 points Vs Cahill (QPR/NEW)

        Who wins?

I don't believe that lampard will play both games. Especially if he plays in barca (probable?)

I don't think that Chelsea will keep a clean sheet in either game.

So I would stick if I was you (I have both sess and caulker). I would consider a hit for a more nailed on midfielder. Also, for a defender who has decent fixtures in the last two as well as the DGW (spurs, everton) as otherwise I will be left with a swansea, sunderland, and newcastle defender, all with crap fixtures

Yeah, the 'sensible' trades for me I think are:

            GW35: Walcott -> Bale
GW36: Turner & Rooney -> BAE & Adebayor (no hits)

which leaves me enough to do

Sess -> Walcott in GW37 (NOR)

Lampard will play midweek against Barca and most likely at the weekend against Arsenal. He play the FA Cup final and will more than likely play against Newcastle but I think he will miss out against QPR.

Cahill may fit into the same scenario too.

Re Luiz, I can't see him being out for all the games going on what info we have already received and also whoever you pick, surely your going to want them to definately play in against Blacburn at home in GW38.

Isnt it frustrating when you're looking through potential transfers (otherwise known as tinkering) and you realise you are 0.1/0.2 off a great couple of transfers -then you think, oh well, i could never have afforded it, but you check TotalFPL anyway to see when a player last rose and it was a day or two ago. no? just me?
I'm 0.2m off being able to do:

    Walcott -> Barfa this week
    Holt -> Ade next

Ok, well maybe not over the past few weeks (always one isn't there....) but over the past 4/5 gameweeks. Like this last game week I outscored 2nd 76-49 with him taking an 8 point hit. as well.

So it's mainly to do with the person in 2nd taking 8 point hits along with me outscoring him with good captain choices. None of them had Evans when he went on his big point scoring returns - same goes for Valencia. RVP doing naff all against City while Rooney scored, I had Cisse in for his double against Swansea, got his 13, then the following week the rest of them got him in.

I have 3 united but no Arsenal.

It is a massive knee jerk, but it is understandable,

With the reintroduction of Tevez City have bounced back to their 4+ goal a game form and their next opponents have conceded way more goals at home than anyone else in the league this season, plus their first choice goal keeper is out, and Hennesy despite letting in so many has saved a shed load too.

Hi, Like loads on here I am trying to catch the leader in my group and suggestions would be apprecicated.
Currently have mid and fwd of valen/silva/sess/sinclair/fergus and RVP/Roo/Ade
    Leader has valen/walc/demps/myiac/allen and RVP/Roon/Ciss

Any recommendations to cut dividends and catch up? Do you think I should concentrate on fwds or mid?
Have 1 FT. Was thinking Roo > Cisse or Sincl > Ben Arfa
    Help much appreciated

You're pretty much fooked (depending on the size of this gap).

Having Ferguson means one less option and personally I think that was a stupid strategy. Learn your lesson for next season.

What belated attempts can you make to overtake him now though? Well his midfield is better than yours for a start and your frontlines are far too similar. You need to gamble and get rid of one of Roo or RVP for a City striker and captain that City striker this week. Again depending on the size of the gap you may also want to get rid of both by changing one of RVP/Roo to Jelavic next week too.

My advice is to take a hit this week and do:
      Roo > Aguero/Tevez
      Sinclair > Ben Arfa/Siggy

I more or less agree with him, but my response would be:

Ferguson to Ben Arfa, Sinclair to Petrov. Needs must, when the Devil drives.

    Fergie Presser:

    Young Knock.
Anderson unlikely to play again this season.
Owen in contention for a sub appearance
    Pogba out for season.

"Everbody's fit after last Sunday. Ashley Young got a knock in the second half but I'm hoing he's okay.

"The only injury we received is Paul Pogba suffered ankle ligament damage in the Reserves on Monday. We think he's out for the season now."

"We want to try and get Michael back. If we get him back and he continues his training he'll be incontention as a sub. He won't be involved on Sunday, though. But for his injuries, who's to say what sort of career he'd have had.

"I don't think Anderson will play again this season. There are only four games left and it will be difficult for him.

Can I improve on the following defensive line-up for the run-in

    Collins/Cahill/Evans/Simpson/Jagielka

It gives me the following back-three

    GW35: Collins(SUN/EVE), Evans(EVE), Simpson (STO)
    GW36: Cahill(QPR/NEW), Jags(FUL/sto), Simpson(wig/che)
    GW37: Cahill(Liv), Evans(SWA), Jags(wol)

Hi guys, I’ve already used 1 of my 2FT to do Walcott – Dempsey. What do you think of these options for the other:

    A) Rooney – Tevez
    B) Rooney – Cisse
    C) Sessegnon – Ben Arfa

Reason for losing Rooney over RVP is that Rooney would be so much easier to transfer back in if I desperately wanted to in GW37. While A might be the most explosive potentially since I’d captain Tevez, C is probably the safest since HBA is my mini league rival’s only real decent differential and there’s no way he’ll have brought in Man City cover this week! (He has Yakubu and Baines, and has made 1 transfer). If I choose C, I’d probably bench Adebayor and go 3-5-2.

    Krul,

    Vermaelen, Enrique, Evans

    Dempsey, Bale, Valencia, Sigurdsson

    RVP, Rooney, Adebayor

    (Mignolet, Sessegnon, Simpson, Turner)

    0.7 in bank

    Any thoughts?

I think it is a very decent transfer with a small possibility of it backfiring. Arsenal are in better form than Spurs (disregard the slip-up against Wigan) and have decent fixtures in 37 and 38 but Bale has the double and a nice fixture this gameweek.

Walcott out for Dempsey or Bale this week is certainly more understandable to me than the folk doing Roo/RVP > Aguero/Tevez but I'm probably biased anyway.

          Bale:

          12.04 - 9.4 (-24,492)
