With just four weeks of the season left, desperation is starting to kick in. In Wigan’s case, that desperation seems to have spurred them on to go all out and produce their best football of the season, but for many Fantasy managers battling the odds in their own (equally important) leagues, that desperation needs a huge dollop of luck to go with it. A 50 point gap is not unassailable yet, but picking the same players from the same teams just won’t cut it; it’s time to wheel out the previously unthinkable, the outrageously risky and the downright unexpected…

David Dunn

There’s no greater motivator than the threat of relegation, and after watching Wigan and QPR pick up some unexpected points recently, Blackburn will be scrambling to turn around their fortunes in a similar fashion. Norwich rock up to Ewood Park this weekend having already secured their premier league status, and fellow strugglers Wigan visit two weeks later – the feeling is that it is probably now or never for Steve Kean’s men and the likes of Yakubu, Hoilett and David Dunn will all be instrumental if they are to pull off a great escape.

Fantasy football veterans will be more than familiar with Dunn’s frustratingly inconsistent returns. Capable of pulling off a bumper haul if you catch him in a burst of form, the downside is the succession of niggling injuries that seem to plague the 32-year-old. With just four matches remaining, however, Dunn seems to be coming into form at just the right time and at his price of 6.2 and 0.2% ownership, we reckon the tricky midfielder is worth a punt despite the risks.

Tomas Rosicky

Arsenal’s Renaissance man Tomas Rosicky epitomises the recent revival in his club’s fortunes; after spending 20 months out with a tendon problem, it was feared that Rosicky would never return to the same level but the Czech schemer has been back to his glorious best in recent games. As Arsenal’s best player against Wigan, Rosicky would probably have been a shoo-in for this weekend’s tie anyway, but with Mikel Arteta ruled out for the season and Yossi Benayoun ineligible to play against his parent club then he will surely be nailed on for the central role.

Chelsea will arrive at the Emirates just three days after a draining Champions league tie spent chasing the ball around their own half, and despite the recent resurgence under their new manager, Arsenal look like strong favourites to pick up the points. Another eight goal thriller would be a bit much to ask for, but if goals do arrive then Rosicky could prove to be huge differential considering his current price of 5.7, and low ownership of 1.2%.

Stephen Ireland

Villa can perhaps be forgiven their poor form considering their recent opponents, but this week is a huge test – Sunderland and Bolton park up at Villa Park having conceded 14 and 11 goals in their last five away games, and despite Villa recent impotence in front of goal, you have to fancy them to pick up at least a couple across the two games.

As the first name on the City team sheet (and many Fantasy football managers too) during the 08/09 season, Stephen Ireland’s decline has been pretty spectacular, scraping together just 555 minutes of play last season without a single goal or assist. The potential is always there however, and with a regular starting role in his preferred position behind the striker, he looks the pick of the Villa players right now considering his low price of just 5.2.

It's not as crazy as it sounds tbh. I already had 2, I needed to bring a cheap defender in to save some cash, so thought seeing as it's just gonna be a bench warmer I might aswell bring in Wheater and if he gets me any extra points then it's all good.

Hey guys. Some advice appreciated (always worked out well for me in the past so here goes)

Mignolet – Jevans Richards Simpson – Dempsey (v) Siggy Valencia Sess – RVP Roonz Cisse (c)

    Bench: Vorm Moses Vermelen Caulker

    Start 11/bench correct?

    Also, thinking of possible FT:

    a) Vorm/Mig to Bogdan (and start Bogdan nx 2 weeks). Minimum 4 pts each week and my 2 keepers only have 1 gw so approx 6 pts max. Mig and Vorm fix shaky after gw 36 anyways.
    b) Sess to Barfa (dgw next but leaves me with 3 castle and shaky fixtures)
    c) do nothing and use for Bale, Ade and BAE next week for dgw

    Appreciate any thoughts. Thx.

      1. i would try to find a way to start verm, maybe over richards as he's not nailed on? idk but id probably start verm... think its hard to bench him

      a) wouldn't waste a transfer on a keeper
      b) might do that. im a fan of that transfer
      c) woudl go for bale and ade but probably not bae

Ye torn on Verm. But think its Richards turn to start. If he does more likely def and off capability vs Wolves I think. Sess (looks disinterested) to HBA it is then. Was just worried abt having 3 Castle. A stout Stoke could men 5 pt for my 2 attackers.

        Thanks for your advice though.

The problem with transferring RVP/Rooney out for Tevez/Aguero is that RVP and Rooney are the two best strikers at the game.

We know RVP scored a hat-trick against Chelsea last time out. He's due a goal.
We know Rooney scores big at home

Also, City have Man U, Stoke and Newcastle in their next 3 games and RVP has Norwich/WBA in last 2. Given striker slots are at a premium Silva is a better bet for City coverage this week. You could swap him out for HBA/Bale for the next week too.

Saying that, I'm still undecided. Aguero/Tevez would be a good shout to catch some points, with RVP looking more likely to be shipped out should I decide to make a change.

He's unfortunately been injured most of the season! Didn't play between October 15th to February but went through a rigorous pre-seasonesque training program and has started pretty much every game from march onwards. The boy is class, gaurentees a goal from set pieces be it direct or an assist. Didn't come for the money, came for the football, just hoping he signs an extension as a way to pay back the club for helping him through a tough time in his career. But if he doesn't I can sleep well knowing I've seen possibly the best player to don the blue and white stripes in mine and maybe older fans lifetimes!

    Thinking ahead to GW36.

    McClean and Tevez >???

I currently have a few combinations I'm turning over.

    Lampard/Mata and Cisse
    - Strong gameweek 36 picks. Lamps on pens.
    - Lamps mightn't play, Cisse has no direct replacement if needed for 37 and 38.

    Ben Arfa and Suarez
    - Good doubles, arguably not as good as some other combinations though.
    - Suarez not likely to play both.
    - Suarez easily swapped in 37.

    What do you guys think?

Valencia imo TM, but I suppose much will depend on who plays for Chelsea.

I think Valencia is a more steady scorer whereas Walcott is more likely to get bursts of points. (this will probably turn out statistical nonsense) just the impression I get.

A little advice Deadzoners if you please.

I am 48pts clear in my £ ML my closest rival is a very good tactition, rather foolishly as it turns out I got rid of Dempsey a few weeks ago and he kept him. We each have two transfers available but I reckon he'll just use 1 if I do.

Should I now bring him back in to cover what could be a high scoring few games for him? Or go with Petrov/Tevez or Aguero?

Bit involved I know, but your thoughts appreciated as this is the time for soundest advice.

48 points really isn't a lot with 4 weeks to go and one of them an uber-double. I think I'd get Dempsey back in if it were me. It could be seen as a negative tactic but what the hell, you want to win and there's money at stake.

A Wigan fan called up asking how he's doing in south america bc he's due to return on loan. Tim Vickery, said that before he signed for Wigan he'd been asked by another premiership manager if Boselli was worth buying. Vickery told the anonymous manager to keep his money in his pocket. When he scored a lot of goals for Estudiantes he was apparently playing in front on a brilliant midfield, poaching goals that your granny would score.

          Basically sheet.
