Salah and Mané top early Gameweek 27 captain poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) is the runaway favourite to win the Gameweek 27 captain poll.

Despite a surprise blank at Norwich on Saturday, the Egyptian and his Liverpool colleagues still have a favourable fixture in this round.

West Ham come to Anfield on Monday night, a ground where they usually struggle, having conceded four goals on both of their two previous Premier League visits.

Ahead of the Hammers’ midweek meeting with Manchester City, David Moyes side have conceded 43 goals this season, only Southampton (48), Norwich (48) and Aston Villa (50) letting in more.

Therefore, it is no surprise to see Salah already on 54.3% support in our poll.

However, our voters do believe that his colleague Sadio Mané (£12.2m) could emerge as the differential option in Gameweek 27, backed by 12.4%.

The Senegalese international returned from his Double Gameweek 24 injury against Norwich and scored the winning goal.

Meanwhile, Mané has attacking returns in four of his last five home matches in the Premier League.

Also receiving some consideration from the Fantasy community is Danny Ings (£7.1m) after he continued his scoring form with a goal against Burnley.

Southampton host an Aston Villa defence that suffered in the absence of captain Tyrone Mings (£4.5m) in Gameweek 26, so those looking at Ings may well be interested in Dean Smith’s next press conference.

        Hilarious. Same question as before.

        I’m always chasing, but I hate taking hits. Obviously, Vardy’s fixtures get much better, but I watched the game this week and Leicester were really poor. Vardy go no service at all.

      Looks like you're heading towards a wildcard, not keen on Ryan, Button, Dunk, Kelly, Lundstram or Vardy. Time for Jimenez, and maybe some Wolves, Sheffield or Southampton defenders.

          Your team is very similar to mine, and I’m stuck too. Depending on where you purchased Lundy, you could move him for VVD. That way you have 4 to choose from. Soy gets better in GW 28 even though Leicester look poor.

          Other option is to move Auba for Jimmy (who, as you know, has great fixtures starting next week) and use the cash to upgrade your defense and martial (or even cantwell) over time.

          Also depends on how the fixtures fall in a single gameweek, Man City home to Villa & Bournemouth, Liverpool home to Bournemouth etc are classic TC options.

          You can strengthen your bench by WC before a double.

          So it’s not even a straight choice, it’s a matter of opportunity cost in comparison with other game weeks and how many points you get above the average in the particular game week

            Its a general question, kind of what would you do? Dont compare with what has happened.

            To make it more clear, their are likely to be only 2 more DGWs. In one of them I'll use FH. So only one DGW left for 2 chips, BB and TC.

            With respect to straightening of bench, I cant afford anything more than 4.5m bench fodders, so bench is going to be sh*t no matter how hard I try. So you can assume that bench will be filled with NEW/WAT/CRP/AVL/NOR players 😀

              but in general you can afford any bench you want, it just means Martial or Maddison instead of Son, or Gomez instead ant other Liverpool player ... loads of ways to change one player to get a killer bench for the second DGW

      I think if there is an obvious captain choice (nailed + great fixtures + sufficient gap between game days), then TC is better. If there is no obvious captain choice, then BB is better.

    Maybe Lund -> Saiss and save another FT? Saiss would nicely rotate with Lascellas (home matches).
    Martial was awful yesterday but hopefully will do better next week.

      There was a Bulgarian team couple of years back in UCL who were in 3rd or 4th tier and got promoted for 3-4 consecutive years plus UCL qualification.

    Just a rant about luck in this game.
    It's pretty annoying planning well but having rivals get jammy subs etc.
    I put KDB(C) because MCI are set to play on the 1st weekend of gw26, with many days of rest to follow.
    "Nah" says the weather & puts the game just 3 days before LEI(away), which is 4 days before Real(away).
    B-E-A-utiful.
    I put Martial (away v CHE) 1st & Soyuncu (away v WOL) 2nd on the bench.
    Of course they don't blank & of course all my other starters, well, start.
    But let's see how my ML rivals fare in this gw.
    One of them has Abraham who goes missing & who's 1st on the bench? Soyuncu.
    Another has Tanganga & Abraham missing & who's 2nd on his bench? Soyuncu.
    Another has Abraham missing, with Grealish 1st on the bench.

    It'd be fine if we got similar misfortunes but this is a common thing.
    And considering I put more time than them in planning, the frustration is multiplied.

    Sorry for this waste of time & space but it feels like the more I plan, the more luck laughs at my plans & sh1ts on them.

      That sounds v unlucky. I can't seem to catch a break this season either. It happens.

      As for the time spent on this game corelating success.... that for sure can be summed up by ghost teams being in the top 10k! Then there's me and my seemingly cack spreadsheets struggling to get in the top 300k!

      I think the game is at least one third luck....

        The more skilled players playing a game where luck is a factor -- the more luck plays a role in success.

        I'd say that FPL is now predominantly luck -- within a reasonable band (Top 500k).

        I try to think of as many factors as possible before making a decision.
        Maybe I should get drunk while picking players or just leave them as they are like a dead team.
        It just seems so hard to beat randomness.
        But then we see it in real life too, some or always luckier than others.

          The game depends. Football is almost entirely skill, so good players always do well (bar injuries, ref decisions etc.)

          FPL, Poker, Investing etc -- all have an element of luck. The more skilled players are playing that game, the less skill matters as everyone has the same information -- so luck becomes the dominant factor.

            Currently at 350k but the annoying part is I try to maximize my potential to get lucky, while many around me just have luck making up for their lack of planning.
            Leaves me with a mood of "why do I even bother?...

              You did get a pretty hefty slice of good luck this week too though with Lundstram's goal off of the bench.

              You definitely took a gamble by benching Martial.

              1 gamble paid off 1 didn't. That's the nature of the game.

            I strongly disagree with your last paragraph. The subtle extra levels of skill at the very top level (FPL, poker, investment, bridge, chess) matters even more.
