634x258 Scouting The Doubles

We continue our analysis of the upcoming double Gameweek 36 by turning our attentions to David Moyes’ Everton. The Toffees performance in Sunday’s 4-4 thriller at Old Trafford extended their unbeaten run to five and, with many Fantasy managers eying up their Fantasy assets ahead of the weekend’s deadline, we run the rule over their potential.

The Prospects

First up for Everton is a home clash with Fulham next Saturday. A look at their recent displays at Goodison Park highlights just how resilient the Toffees have been in front of their own fans. Moyes’ side have five clean sheets in the last six home games, with just a single goal conceded to Arsenal in a run that has seen them keep out the likes of City, Chelsea and Tottenham. The fact that Fulham have netted a mere 11 times away all season – joint-bottom for away goals alongside Stoke – merely adds to the argument that a home clean sheet looks a strong possibility.

From an attacking perspective, the omens look good, too. With the likes of Nikica Jelavic and Steven Pienaar now firmly settled in the Everton first XI, they have clicked as an attacking unit, scoring 14 goals in their last five fixtures – they had previously notched 28 times in their first 29 Gameweeks.

After that, Moyes takes his team to the Britannia the following Tuesday. Given that they’ve just put four past United, Everton will hold no fear for the showdown with Tony Pulis’ Stoke and a look at the stats offers further encouragement. The Potters have scored a mere five goals and failed to keep a clean sheet in the last seven Gameweeks, suggesting there’s potential for profit at both ends of the pitch for Moyes’ side.

The Likely Lads

Normally, Leighton Baines would be the first name we’d turn to but it seems highly unlikely he will feature, according to his manager. Moyes admitted in last Friday’s press conference that the left-back will be out for two weeks and, with that in mind, we have to omit him from our thoughts.

Instead, it’s Nikica Jelavic who is the hot property at Goodison right now. The Croatian’s goalscoring exploits have clearly caught the eye – he’s the most transferred in player so far this Gameweek, with over 37,000 Fantasy managers snapping up his services. With six goals in just six starts, his acquisition has added another dimension to Moyes’ side and, with a price of 5.9 and ownership of 3%, his potential as a cut-price differential looks strong. Jelavic is likely to be handed spot-kick duties in Baines’ absence and has also been afforded his share of free-kicks, furthering his outstanding appeal.

Steven Pienaar’s creativity has also played a significant part in Everton’s surge up the table. The on-loan midfielder has slipped seamlessly back into the Toffees first-team and approaches the double Gameweek in eye-catching form; two goals, three assists and three bonus points in his last four appearances has helped him average over eight points per game. Priced at 7.0, though, Pienaar offers strong mid-price potential and – aside from the match against parent club Tottenham – has started every game since returning to Merseyside. Fantasy managers will be worried over last night’s news that a warrant has been issued for his arrest due to a driving offence, though the South African is still expected to be immediately available to Moyes.

Leon Osman is another of Moyes’ midfield certainties. While the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool are likely to rest and rotate, Everton seem more inclined to field a settled XI and Osman seems to have crept under the radar so far. Only 2,000 Fantasy managers have transferred him in, though he’s another man in form, with a goal, a couple of assists and two bonus points in his last three. At 6.6, he’s slightly less on the budget than Pienaar and has already returned three double figure Goodison hauls this term.

At the back, Phil Jagielka has produced the most impressive attacking returns of the defenders available to Moyes. The centre-half has grabbed two goals and two assists this term – Sylvain Distin and Johnny Heitinga have returned a single assist between them in comparison. Priced at 5.3, Jagielka looks the best value of the trio, while 4.6 Tony Hibbert served a reminder of his budget potential with a pair of assists at Old Trafford.

Cheeky Punt

The performance of Marouane Fellaini in Sunday’s draw at United highlighted the Belgian’s flourishing form. With Phil Neville and Darron Gibson sitting deep in central midfield, Fellaini seems to be afforded the freedom that made Tim Cahill such a dangerous Fantasy asset in seasons gone by, as he drifts forward to support Jelavic in the lone striker role. While he’s perhaps unlikely to replicate his 10 point return at Old Trafford, Fellaini’s guaranteed game time and price of 6.1 could prove dividend for those willing to have a flutter.

Does anyone know when the captain poll for GW36 goes live? I'm struggling for inspiration to realise a suitor for the captain's armband!

Cisse is the obvious one, cracking form and 2 games (though they are tough). Dempsey and Jelly would probably be close 2nds

    Hi all.
Am I mad to be benching RVP?
    Team
    Krul ( Vorm)
BAE, Simpson, Verm ( Jevans, Richards)
    Dempsey, Petrov, Siggy, Pienarr Valencia
    Cisse, Jelavic, (RVP).

Aware Jelavic may not play both, but has Wolves week 37, and I expect 2 appearances from the 3 games.

So its all about gw37 & 38, which I believe Rooney will outscore RVP in. There's a good chance United might have to improve their GD to win the title.

A bit of a split decision, MCI only 2 clean sheets in last 8, pressure on, so I suspect there will be chances, as MCI have to win, and MU could get away with a draw.

Here's a strange one for you.
    I own Brunt (don't ask)

Should I play him at home to Villa, a team that has limped nearly to safety and who will be without Collins at the back (and probably a game too early for Dunne also). I've watched WBAs last 2 games and I thought Brunt has looked very sharp.

Or should I do Brunt to Pienaar for a -4 ??............thanks all

This DGW is giving me a right headache! Would really appreciate some thoughts, my team at the moment is (DGW players in caps):

    SCHWARZER

    Caulker / ENRIQUE / Vermaelen

MIYACHI / DEMPSEY Valencia / BALE

Graham / Rooney / Van Persie

I have 1FT, 3.3M in bank, and willing to take a -4pt hit but no more than that.

    Was thinking:

    Valencia -> Pienaar / VDV
    Graham -> Jelavic

    Thoughts?

Seems a bit silly with Graham playing wolves at home but I don't want him for mun LIV.

I never got cisse as my ML leader has him and I'm 18pts behind - poor decision in hindsight but am thinking may as well get a differential at this stage...

Hypothetically, if you had a WC to play with, what team would you go for this DGW?

    Pienaar Bale Demps HBA

    Jelly Cisse Defoe

BAE Huth Hibbert (Evans for 37, Simpson)

With so little of the season left, this DGW is massive in deciding a lot of MLs so long-term thinking should go out of the window. Defoe could provide rich returns if he does manage to reclaim the starting forward spot.

          (1) Defoe is not as good as either (a) he thinks he is or (b) the media think he is, and (b) he is at risk with Saha and still Ade on the prowl - Redknapp needs Ade whether he likes it or not - he doesn't have to keep him after season's end.

Yeah, I know it's a risk. He's my punt in this selection. People are getting in Chelsea players like Mata and Terry/Cole who I'm certain won't start both games. Anyways, it's only hypothetical and I'm not really going to get Defoe in my real team 😉

So Jelavic, my rival has him and I'm chasing a lead.

I usually find that bandwagon players fall into one of two categories:

    1) Sh*t, better get him in quick, regardless if my opponent has him or not. He's essential and I've got to get him in to avoid falling further behind. E.g. P D Cisse.

    Or,

    2) Fair enough, his forms good, fixtures look ok too, fair play to the rival for getting him in. He can't carry on like this forever though. I'll probably avoid getting him in, hope he draws a blank and try and find a differential in order to make up ground. E.g. P Pogrebnyak

    Which one is he?

Others will diagree, I know. But IMO Jelavic is the No.1 buy this week. A great set of DGW fixtures followed by two great fixtures in GW37&38 and very good form. Also likeley on pens while Baines is out.

Do keeper save points accumulate over a DGW ?
i.e I currently have Bogdan sitting on 2 saves from Swansea match. Will he gain extra point with one save this eve at Villa, or are they able to reset the counter?

Just looking back through FPL history, trying to weigh up going for Osman or Pienaar and saw this:

    Date GW Min Price Points
    04 Jan 20 BOL(H) 1-2 52 £6.8 1
    11 Jan 20 TOT(A) 0-2 0 £6.8 0

Referring back to the bonus points here. How did Rooney manage to get 3 bonus points..Wellbeck was far better than him and Jalevic only got 1...it states that an opposing team will be given more points if they get a result and also how did Aguero not even get 1 point.. MAN OF THE MATCH!! ok rant over

Has to be shots off target I suppose...guess we all miss the negatives (shots off target, passes completed) when we're rooting for someone 😛

Are you suggesting it is based on how well they play? If you have not worked it out by now goals and shots on target are massive point earners. Aguero was very wasteful and Rooney had more shots on target than Welbeck I believe.

Well another counter point to this is they also tally pass completion rates....so why does Scholes not factor higher seeing as he nearly has 20 % of united's passes and nearly a 90% completion rate?

anyone got any stats re: whether Walker or BaE is the better bet this week?
I had Walker earlier in the season (and he didnt get me any attacking points at all), and i remember an old article on here about BaE's influence.

either that, or should i scrap the whole thing and forget Spurs defense and go for someone like Huth?

    My current back 5 is:

    Verm Caulker Evans Simpson McAuley

If you were to replace one of them with a DGW defender, who would you replace and would you replace him with?

Similar defence to mine. I would be tempted to leave it as Verm/Evans have ideal fixtures the week after, Simpson has a DGW and both McAuley + Caulker have good SGW fixtures.

Caulker > Huth/Cahill if you have to though.

Cheers COMH. Was thinking about Spurs defenders but wasnt sure if I wanted to dish out 6+ when a CS isnt that certain.

I have Bale, Cisse and planning to get Jelavic. Other DGW mid is Dempsey. Should I still get one of VDV, HBA, Pienaar?

Not convinced by Spurs in defence tbh so I would avoid. Everton/Stoke/Chelsea the most resilient at the back so Huth/Cahill/Hibbert imo.

No harm in doubling up with one of those options. I think Newcastle have two tough away games which will be tight so Cisse is plenty. No need for HBA. Pienaar is worth having along with Jelavic but i'm gambling with a Bale/VDV double up as they have the most potential to get the big numbers imo.

If you're going to (C) Jelly then it's definitely worth a hit. I think Manc derby will be tight affair and both teams will be cagey because of what's at stake. Might be just the one goal that decides it either way so can't see any striker in this match returning a big haul.
