Quiz

Take our Fantasy Premier League 2019/20 quiz

They can’t all be 4,000-word long-reads on why the form of Ashley Westwood is key to Burnley’s clean sheet potential.

A little distraction and light relief amid the grave events elsewhere in the world can’t go amiss so, with that in mind, we’re launching a weekly Fantasy Premier League quiz while top-flight football is on an enforced break.

We’ll be operating on a season-by-season basis, starting with the current campaign and going backwards in time.

It’s not just FPL points we’re talking about here, however.

We’re harnessing statistics and images from our Members Area, asking questions on underlying numbers as much as Fantasy returns.

It’s just for “fun” (citation needed) and, of course, the answers can be easily enough sourced by accessing the Members Area or the FPL site itself – but where’s the satisfaction in that, we ask you.

Click ‘next’ below to start the quiz and to cycle through the questions.

We’ll return next week with the 2018/19 campaign.

Gundogan saying Liverpool should be awarded the title if the season is voided. No they shouldn't Ilkay coz then Leicester will rightly say why are we not in the champions league?

It's context. Leicester are not 25 points ahead of 5th place.

so where's the cutoff for awarding trophies? 20pts? 15 pts?

Either this season happened or it didn't

That's why the PL have made it clear they want to finish the season before starting a new one.

don't like it personally. Want to finish the season whenever we get the all clear and use it as a celebration rather than use footballers as slaves for our entertainment

Its just for/because of the money. Also money for players and many other people who work in this business.
I cant decide so it doesnt matter what I think. I knew it will end like this. If they finish this season I will watch it locked in my house.

It's not as if pro footballers are having a whale of a time atm, we are all in the same boat unfortunately. Given that, I would think they would be busting a gut, to have a chance to get out the house and play the game they presumably love.

People are going to be forced to stay at their homes. Life is going to be dull. Mental issues will be discussed more. People will need something to watch on tv. There is only one answer for these demands.

Opinions against it will change later. Bread and circus pleasures is not a joke, it is essential for mental health.

I know many have the time for a Netflix movie right now. Just got round to 'Hostiles', a sort of frontier film about the struggle between white settlers and Native Americans with Christian Bale. Well worth a go - completely missed it on its release.

Harry Kane: "I've always said if I don't feel like we're progressing as a team or going in the right direction, I'm not someone to stay there just for the sake of it."

Poor Harry, it's almost as if he didn't drop one of the worst performances from a striker you'll ever see in a CL final.

If Kane was to leave Spurs next season and stay at pl which club do you think he will end up at?

    - Arsenal/Chelsea:- Definite no due to london rivalry

    - Liverpool:- No chance klopp disrupt the current title winning front 3

That leaves both Manchester Clubs. Im not sure he fits Pep tactics and works hard enough in his system.

Hence im betting Manchester United is rhe most likely destination. Fits the United bill perfectly similar to ike Zlatan RVP Rooney etc. If he does join Kane Bruno Partnership us going to absolute treat to watch.

    Thoughts ??

Why not ? I know he's injured recently but when fit he is the best striker in pl hands down (maybe apart from kun)

        Certainly got the pedigree.

136 goals in 183 pl starts
20 goals in 24 cl games

          He has yes.
But i think United shouldn't splash 120-150m££ on him atm.

I think a CDM + a RW should be signed before a Striker. IF Pogba goes out on a huge deal + Sanchez leaves United this summer then there is a chance though

Man Utd don't need a striker. What they need is a RM and a DM.

      De Gea
      AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
      ????? Fred
      ????? Fernandes Martial
      Rashford

      Romero
      Dalot Bailly Tuanzebe Williams
      Matic McTominay
      James Mata Pereira
      Ighalo

Sell: Rojo, Smalling, Jones, Pogba, Sanchez and Lingard. Send Greenwood out on loan.

Man utd definitely need a Central Striker, but they also badly need a Central Midfielder and a Centre Back - but if they do get those vacancies with the team's spine filled with the right quality they'll be right back up there again

I think Auba would be a much better long term signing for Utd than Kane - For utd the future has to be about getting Greenwood properly developed as soon as possible - the kid is an outrageous talent & looks set for great things

Signing Auba and putting him as CF gives Auba his last couple of seasons at the top as a CF where he wants to be (not POO on the wings at Arsenal), and clears the way for Greenwood to take over in a couple of season's time when he'll have an extra bit of growth, development & experience under his belt

There's also the issue of Kane's last two seasons - when he's not been injured, he's looked a shadow of the player of 3 or 4 seasons ago, but even at that, I'd still prefer Auba from a long term/sucession planning perspective

Rashford is well established now as a LWF, moving him to Central Striker would both obstruct Greenwood's path long term, and take him out of the position he's caused so much havoc in this season (22 of his 26 starts are a LWF)

Auba wouldn't break the bank either with the contract situation. The problem will be with trying to get Inter to part with Skriniar/Napoli to part with Koulibaly etc - utd need a centre back of that calibre alongside Maguire, as Lindelof is just too much of an easy aerial target to be first choice

        Aye
Last thing we need is a star with injury prone ankles.

If he comes les than 100m than its an intriguing deal though. But with Levy it's not possible

If they're going to sign a (relatively) young striker to put in Greenwood's way, there are better options out there than Kane

But i think an older age profile is actually better from a long term perspective & will be easier to complete in the transfer market too - makes sense both financially & from a long-term succession planning perspective

            Yes
Tbh, between Kane & Auba I'd get Auba anyday atm. It's the missing peace in the jigsaw for long time.

A guy with poacher instincts, leathal in the box, good conversion rate, experienced ......

If he's under 50m, i think United should get him !

        Right back up where?

They’re a gazillion miles from looking at the title. Or are you talking about competing for a CL place?

Nice names on a roster but I haven’t seen anything much to suggest a settled plan of play.

Actually curious to see whether OGS has anything resembling a master plan? They’ve bought decently under him but I’m not sensing anything transformational.

              • 14 Years
              3 years, 12 months ago

That's ok - "transformational" is very subjective, and it wouldn't really be measureable - but if it was, I think it would take longer than the two transfer windows Solksjaer has had so far (no club would ever go out an buy an entire XI in one window)

Albeit I think arguably decent enough use has been made of those windows - more so on the "outs" front (which is a long list, and growing) than the "ins" front - albeit I think Maguire, AWB, James were players that ticked certain boxes, as was Bruno albeit he ticked a different type of box

But as I said above, I think they definitely need a Central Striker, but they also badly need a Central Midfielder and a Centre Back - but if they do get those vacancies with the team's spine filled with the right quality they'll be right back up there again

Yeah the London-to-London thing is a total non-issue imo

Figo went from Barca to Real FFS, Kane can go to Arsenal

Sure didn't another high profile Spurs youth team product, (captain no less!), do exactly that a few years ago, and with outstanding success too...

  10. Carefree Crew

Agree it's unlikely he'll join another London club.

Rumors of Werner linked with Liverpool. Do you think he'd go to sit on the bench? VVD, Firmino, Mane, Salah, (Henderson possibly?) are all 28+. It would cost hundreds of millions to replace them all at the same time. I expect Klopp to sell at least one of those to fund a younger player. But I agree I don't see him going there.

City with CL ban & Peps contract running out, I'm not so sure I'd discount them.
Can't see Kane going in this summer window so it depends on the picture in a year or so time.

Who is in the CL? What manager is in place? Strength of squad & liklihood of winning trophies are all factors.

Are united likely to be challenging for PL / CL? Frying pan / fire.

I think he'll go abroad, Real or Barca most likely. Levy will want ridiculous money for him, so it would have to be a club that can afford to pay over £100mil. That limits the options.

    1. HurriKane
      • 11 Years
      3 years, 12 months ago

Expect united to secure top 4 now that they have secured Bruno. Hence i can see further re enforcement with likes of Grealish Saul/Partey Sancho on cards

I think he stays in PL and Joins united. to compete for title and break Shearer all time premier league top scorer feat.

  11. Carefree Crew
    • 5 Years
    3 years, 12 months ago

I'm not convinced the league will be completed (so no CL for Man U) & even if so I don't think they will secure top four. Chelsea will have a fully available squad after being descimated by injuries (Kante, Abraham, RLC, CHO, Pulisic, etc)

So with Liverpool & City being so far ahead of the rest of the league that's a big ask for United to close the gap to competing for the league.

Chelsea have a £200mil+ war chest from player sales alone. Not including any further player sales from the loan army or whatever budget would normally be spent over two transfer windows (£100mil seems reasonable). Or any player sales from the first team squad. Plus the young players Abraham, Mount, Pulisic, James, CHO, Tomori, Gilmour, etc will all be better.

I think all 3 are more likely to be winning trophies than United.

I'm also doubtful that Ole as a manager or United as a club are that attractive to join for elite players.

If Kanes motivation to move is to win trophies, it's not the right fit.

    1. Amey
      • 5 Years

What if United sign Poch in the summer ?

    2. Carefree Crew
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 12 months ago

I did think about that but it doesn't change the fact that you (seen your badge on your profile, no offence mate!) are so far behind both City & Liverpool who both will strengthen again. Liverpool hardly bought anyone in the last 2 Windows & City make up FFP as they go along so will spend what they want. Plus they have consecutive years of CL revenue anyway.

City CL ban arguably makes them favourites for the league next season when only playing once a week, benefits are both tactical preparation & fitness / less fatigue.

How old is Kane now? Does he want to move to a "project" team or one that can realistically win trophies straight away.

With everything that's going on & Levy a nightmare to let players leave on the cheap I don't see him moving this summer. So he'll be another year older by 2021/22.

      What do you think?

      1. Amey
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 12 months ago

        Hmm
All valid points mate. As I've said above, I don't think United will go for him. He'll cost too much money !

Good points re City & Pool yeah. Don't see City signing him tbh. Pool on other hand can become untouchable if they sign him up ...

        Hopefully not ;?

    3. Carefree Crew
      • 5 Years

Firmino is important as a false 9 dropping deep between the lines to create space, that enables Salah & Mane to score so many goals.

I don't think Kane fits that style of play. He's more of a number 9 than a "false" 9.

What they'd benefit from having Kane they will lose from not having Firmino and remain around the same level. So I don't think they would be unstoppable.

I actually don't think they have been as good as last season when blowing teams away 3 or 4 nil & keeping more clean sheets.

I also think the standard of the other teams has been poor. Both back end of last season & this. I'm a Chelsea fan we kept dropping points from Nov/Dec yet we are still 4th.
Same at the end of last season when no one caught us even though under Sarri we were struggling.

If the Werner rumors are true, I've read he can play out wide & up front & maybe a better fit for them. But if they don't sell any of their front 3, he won't be a starter every week. Maybe Klopp is planning to rotate the front 3 & him playing both wide & up front enables him game time.

Like I said City favourites for league with no CL, their squad quality in depth & having laporte back fit & no doubt buying another CH.

You'll know better than I, but didn't Ole talk about needing a striker after letting Lukaku & Sanchez leave the squad?
Is Ighalo the answer long term? I'm guessing not.

These reports are all originated from this Irish Independent article:

      https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/manchester-united/failure-to-capture-130m-sancho-would-be-calamitous-for-man-united-39085194.html

It would be lovely to see a Sancho-Bruno-Rashford trio behind a central striker

But I'm unfortunately not counting any chickens, we've seen this movie before, several times last summer alone

Couldn't see any actual quotes or evidence other than Ken Lawrence saying "Every quiet word coming out of the Theatre of Dreams is that Sancho has already unofficially confirmed he will move back to Manchester – but the red side."

I am thinking along the lines of which player has had the highest individual score in a season ever, and in a gameweek ever. What nationality was last years overall winner, how many points for a goalkeeper goal. That sort of thing...? Also if anyone knows the answers to those....!
