What impact has Carlo Ancelotti had at Everton?

We recently kicked off our series of members’ articles on those teams who appointed new managers during 2019/20 with a look at Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Next up, we check-in at Goodison Park to analyse Everton’s performances under Carlo Ancelotti, who first took charge in Gameweek 19.

    Mane + Ings
    Or
    Kane + Fernandes

    Have Salah....

Assuming the season restarts, once the title is won I can't see Klopp playing Mane and Salah every game so I'd probably go K & F.

Would prefer someone like Auba, Vardy or Jimi ahead of Kane though.

      (Sorry for the reply fail.)

I would prefer Vardy or Aguero ahead of Kane tbh.

Or alternatively, you could consider a cheap third forward like Chris Wood and use the funds to upgrade a mid to Son/KDB.

According to the Telegraph, the Premier League have been told the 20/21 season must start by no later than the 1st week of September.

Presumably, this would mean the current season would need to restart no later than June in order to allow a short summer break in August for transfers, sponsorship deals, contract discussions, etc to be completed before the new season starts.

I said it before - it will get to the point where we will have to learn to live as normal as possible with COVID-19 around.
WHO is already predicting 2nd wave of infections for autumn this year.
Until approved accessible vaccine is developed this nasty bug wont go away, and football like any other busieness will have to eventually find a way to re-model itself and start making money.

As much as id like to see it, that's only 6 weeks away.
Unless the rate of infections/deaths starts falling rapidly I don't see it happening.

    Real fpl team...
    Krul (Button*)
    TAA Egan Doherty (Stephens* Holgate*)
    Salah KDB Barnes Bruno (Dendo*)
    DCL Auba Jimenez

    2ft 1.8itb
    A. Button to Pope/McCarthy/Leno (+1 game)
    B. Dendoncker to Cantwell
    C. Stephens to Awb
    D. Holgate to Taylor/Lascelles

Sadly I can't afford all of these. Is there a cash cow here you would sacrifice? Doherty or Auba?

Haven't been on for a while. But am uber bored right now so thought I'd check my fantasy team and have a nosey to see if this site is still getting traffic.

Firstly, I'm a bit gutted I missed the start of this 'virtual fantasy game'. It sounds like a pretty nice concept to get FF fans through this dead period. Nice stuff from the organiser(s)!

Secondly, I can't believe that FPL has allowed the dates for the game weeks to just tick over as usual. It makes me worried that if (...and it's a big if I know) the season does get to finish, then all the remaining games will be squeezed into just a couple of GW's (or possibly even just one massive GW38).

That seems absolutely ridiculous to me. People won't have chance to play all their chips which sucks for those who still have a full set. Then for those who have blown their chips, they will be up against people who have (for example) Bench Boosted and will be getting 15 players scores for the massive GW38.

I know it's difficult for FPL to deal with this unprecedented situation. But I can't help but feel they've sh*t the bed big time. This season's FPL is going to descend into a complete farce, if they ever get chance to complete it.

Highly unlikely they have a huge game week 38. They’ll just add more game weeks but they can’t really decide properly until they know when the games will be played.

You do realise they need time to update the game for next season. ? If they create new game weeks that doesn't give them a lot of time to prepare for next season. ( if it is fast tracked to start on time) Which is far more important than finishing this one to them and most of us. Plus there is a cost to paying the developers who do not come cheap.

Maybe it makes no sense for them to create more gameweeks financially. I
doubt they care about a few on here feeling disgruntled tbh.The integrity has gone in both real life and FPL regardless of what happens next . We shall see but i don't think they would have done anything wrong.

Was it in friendlies after GW1?
Friendlies now can be diferent after GW1 results as its use data from already played games.

In mine Ings didnt do much, DCL scored some but was sent off too and Wood wasnt bad as 6.1 mil player but not sure I can trust those friendlies esp with that small sample.
I didnt try Pukki as fix put me off but maybe its mistake.

Yes DCL's they were prior to GW1, he got a red and 2 yellows and an assist in three games, plus he got a red in the friendly we can all see. Another red in your friendly suggests he's still a card magnet, but his fixtures are good.

Ings was benched in the friendly I played this GW (mun), and one of the three I played last week.

Wood didn't contribute against ars or NEW in friendlies I played this GW.

Hi all, sorry to sound dumb, but on Virtual FPL, was just wondering if for example me and another player elsewhere arranged a Liverpool home fixture friendly pre GW2, and it brought up versus Man City for both of us - would we get identical 'virtual' results? ie. is there a bank of results in the background which are simulated and your friendlies are picked from them? Hope you can help 🙂

In Poland every football club is making list of 50 people who will be together till end of season (players, staff, journalists etc). From Monday they start 2 weeks isolation.

Up to 1000 people would have to get though 2 weeks of self isolation without any coronavirus symptoms for it to happen though, that's very doubtful in this country at the moment. It will be interesting to see if 800 people manage it in Poland, so the Ekstraklasa can restart.

Except that his 49 colleagues have to be retested and isolate for 14 more days regardless if they have another negative test. In a fkt up way they'd be quicker if 50 were positive for COVID, they couldn't spread it in the group but no player would take such a risk, would they....

Wrong. They are isolating now (isolating, not 50 people in one room) . IF test is negative then they will meet. And after that no contact to other people.

The fact they still need medical people at the games and using up valuable medical resources that could be better used to help people who are ill is a problem too.

Will players want to be away from their families for that long considering the country is in such a state? Players out of contract and the legal obstacles it brings etc .

Not saying they will not eventually start
I don't want it to but in think unless the government intervene they will actually but it is not as easy as saying Poland are doing it so we will too is it ? I reckon a lot depends on the antibody tests ( which i read this morning at the moment may not be accurate)

Morning all, hope you're all well. Anyone have any input in regards to what is happening with price changes currently? There was a time when there seemed to be quite a few happening but recently there's not been any. Should we expect a few changes tonight as it's "deadline" day? It's the only reason i'm making some transfers in my team - playing the price game. Cheer all

According to FPLStatistics (or what I remember of the post), the huge number of changes were probably due to the price change thresholds adjusting to the lower volume of transfers - basically a short term thing that will now mean price changes are back to being uncommon.

Someone might be able to link the post, I don't have it to hand.

Oh ok. I don't understand why it went mad for a few days and then they settled down though - maybe they took the thresholds too low for a day or two? Thanks for your help,

When they adjusted the thresholds, a lot of players would suddenly find themselves above / below the rise / fall thresholds for transfers that gameweek, hence they rise / drop. Why it happened over 2 nights though, I don't know.

So say if Jesus had 1500 transfers in net for the gameweek and his threshold was 20k, he wouldn't rise. But when the threshold was suddenly adjusted to 1000 due to the low volume of total transfers that gameweek, he suddenly finds himself above the threshold so rises, even if for that particular *night* he was net negative for transfers.

          At least, that's my understanding!

Ok fair enough. I get it in theory but then I would have expected a few more price changes since they made the change (surely that was the point in a way). I'll see what happens tomorrow. If there's no changes again then maybe they've put them back up.

What I meant (for example) is I would have expected some price changes last night. There are still transfers being made. Very quick one I just looked at was Ings. He has been transferred out by over 3000 people this week - with the lower thresholds I would have expected a drop.

The truth is (and I'm really not moaning here - well kind of) that no one actually knows how they manage the price change system. It is very much a secret system they use and they tweak it as and when they like. I, like most, just try to figure it out as close as to make some sense of it. Maybe FPL should be more transparent with it?

"The excessive number of price changes and the increasing size of the prediction errors over the last couple of days is now understood. Unfortunately this will be extremely difficult to model accurately without drastic changes to the system.

The threshold at which a player will change in price is dependent on a large number of factors. These factors normally change gradually throughout the season as the total number of active teams making transfers reduce. During a normal season the primary factor that determines when a price change will occur is the net daily 'effective' transfers for a player. Basically, if the total net volume of transfers for a player exceeds a threshold then a price change will occur for that player.

Owing to the cessation in the premier league fixtures the active number of teams making 'effective' transfers within the game has abruptly reduced by roughly 97%. The main impact of this is that the primary factor determing [SIC] when a price will occur is now the size of the thresholds rather than the total volume of net transfers for each individual player. This is confirmed by looking at the sign of the net transfers when a price changed occured [SIC]. Usually for a price rise to occur the net volume of daily transfers for that player will be positive - and vica versa [SIC] for a pice [SIC] fall. During a normal season this rule is only broken once or twice as the thresholds are reduced. However, over the last few days this rule has been broken consistently. For example last night there were 6 players who rose in price with a negative net daily volume of transfers and also 6 players who dropped in price with a positive net volume of daily transfers. There were also 15 players whose price changed with zero net transfers. So out of a total of 55 price changes last night 27 violated this rule. So in effect the primary reason for a player now changing in price is the reduction in the threshold values rather that the net volume of transfers for a player."

Yes, The Premier League say they are hoping they can ASAP. With the current lockdown it would be around June that is the earliest they could start.

Their current plan remains that they are hoping to continue. Whether they do or not depends on the Government. No amount of FPL pre-fix Twitter cronies know that.

Tonight Will Virtual FPL reflect that teams like Wolves and Sheffield United have been playing 5 at the back (not 4) all season?

    1. StoichkovFPL
      • 8 Years
      3 years, 11 months ago

Does it matter? Attacking players like Doherty will still have attacking returns like in real life etc
Teams ability to make CS or defenders ability to get attacking returnes are coded into the game. Doesnt matter is it 442 or 352 etc.

It needs to be realistic. These teams haven't played 4 at the back all season ... or at least for the majority of the season. Hopefully it's been ironed out over the last week.

It was a tough decision. Grealish is heavily involved in Villa's attack and has good long term fixtures, but Villa's attack looks a bit lacklustre. In the end, Sarr at home to Brighton was too good to refuse.

If the premier league is going to be finished in 40 days (see https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52326617), are we going to see rotation on an unprecedented scale? Yes all the players are well rested, but they aren't match fit and can't play every 3 days.

Should we only be transferring in centre halves and talismen from teams with something to play for?

I'm seriously considering ditching my expensive wing backs (TAA, Robertson and Doherty) for VVD, Boly and O'Connell (already have Egan).

I think it's worth revisiting who played every game over the congested Christmas schedule as well.

I think it's a reflection on UTD picking up form before postponement and decent remaining fixtures. It's always refreshing to avoid the template but sometimes the most bought players are being purchased for good reason.

      Hard to know

There were (and are every year) ~40 games in the league & the club-world-whatever-it-was in 11 days between 21st December and 1st January, including Liverpool playing 2 games in Qatar

People who sold TAA got burned there... Doherty missed one of the 4 games, but it was Liverpool away literally 2 days after playing city away... AWB missed one of the 4 games

But VVD & Maguire did start all the games in fairness

In terms of being a material influence on FPL selection decisions - I don’t know if it’ll break a template which is probably stronger at the minute than it has been all season

So much so that for many, FPL will effectively be a 4-man game when it restarts:

      __1__
      TAA, Doherty, __2__
      Salah, KDB, Bruno, __3_
      Jimmy, DCL, _4__

There also won’t be a single match fit player/team in Europe when leagues restarts - and there won’t be fans/atmosphere - prepare for 90 games of ridiculous GW1-3 style anomalies I reckon, the variance will be off the charts

Mags probably, but I quite like the budget Bwilliams. Wouldn't be surprised if he outscores the others even if he only starts 5 or 6 out of the remaining matches. 1 pt cameos could be annoying though.

I swerved Maguire for AWB + a bench (AWB gets more points when he plays, nearly always plays, and has never been subbed on when he doesn’t start)

If Maguire made a habit of scoring goals he’d be dangerous though - he’s just not that prolific in the other penalty box just yet though

I opted for Maguire, AWB is better on BPS as you say but I'm hoping Harry can get a couple of goals if/when season restarts, particualry now Bruno is whipping balls in. Considering a double up with AWB though, stats were picking up before league was postponed.

Are the Premier League considering increasing the number of subs per game in remaining matches? Might help reduce the number of potential injuries due to reduced match fitness and more games within a short space of time reducing recovery time.

Who are you captaining in Virtual FPL tonight ?

Arsenal's real life defensive record since Mikel Arteta took over is joint second in the PL, and their away defensive record over that period is second outright. Virtual FPL appears to be based on real life stats like that, so I'm tempted to go Vardy against the much more obliging Bournemouth D, over Salah.

Not sure it works that way. Arsenal in whole season was awful in defence plus Liverpool score a lot at home.
I have Liv triple up and going to captain one.

I know DCL isn't performing in friendlies but I am leaning towards captaining him or Digne. I would be tempted by richarlison if I had him. (Purely because of the fixture )

If season does complete which Sheffield United defender would you want in team ? Lundstram still best option or not

For VFPL, which of these would you start?
O'Connell away to Villa or Lascelles away to West Ham.

    Surely O'Connell right?

Cant see FPL coding extra gameweeks, even if season is to be completed. Whatever plan the premier league go with could be changed at last minute.

    FPL just wont bother
