With games against Blackburn at home and Bolton away, Tottenham have two of the best fixtures of the eight double Gameweek sides. A few weeks back, Fantasy managers would have been desperate to shoehorn three Spurs players into their squads but form has proved a cruel mistress in recent weeks. Surely, you’d think, this double Gameweek affords Harry Redknapp’s side a chance to turn around their dwindling fortunes?

The Prospects

Two wins in the last ten games tells a terrible story for the North London outfit. During this appalling run they have been beaten five times, including defeats at QPR and at home to Norwich, as well as conceding 14 goals. Similar to QPR, both Blackburn and Bolton are also fighting relegation, indicating Spurs may be in for a scrap, but a look at both sides’ defensive displays offers plenty optimism for Redknapp’s troops as they look to get their Champions League bid back on track.

Blackburn have kept just three clean sheets this campaign and shipped 73 goals – 41 of those have come on the road, the worst away record of any side in the league. Steve Kean’s side have recorded a single clean sheet away all season and have shipped two or more goals in four of the last five on their travels, strongly suggesting that goals could be on the agenda for the home side next Sunday at the Lane. In terms of goals scored, Rovers have failed to notch in three of their last five on the road, scoring just three times – two of those came at Molineux against relegated Wolves. Fantasy owners have every reason to be hopeful of a home clean sheet here.

Bolton have been similarly poor for defensive returns – Owen Coyle’s have also kept just three clean sheets this season, with a total of 66 goals conceded. The Trotters have returned a single clean sheet since Gameweek 11 and have shipped two or more goals in seven of the last ten Gameweeks. Having found the net in three of their last four at the Reebok, however, defensive returns for the visitors may not be quite so straightforward next Wednesday.

The Likely Lads

Reports earlier this week of a dressing room bust up between on-loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor and Spurs manager Harry Redknapp have yet to be confirmed by either camp, given the gossip little foundation at present. More concrete was today’s news that the Togo international is expected to overcome the hamstring problem that forced him out of last weekend’s trip to QPR. Should Adebayor – who is the fourth best striker in terms of total points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – take to the pitch, he has the potential for a huge haul. Already he has 13 goals, 12 assists, 24 bonus points and five double digit weekly points totals to his name. If, however, Adebayor fails to make it for this Gameweek, given that Louis Saha is also a doubt with a groin problem, Jermaine Defoe may find himself as the only forward available to Redknapp.

The stock of Spurs’ forward thinking midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart would also rise considerably if Adebayor is out of the picture, as he is certain to be handed spot kick duties. Among the Spurs midfield, Van Der Vaart has also shown the most promise in recent weeks, giving the 9.5m priced Dutchman strong potential to add to his nine goals, five assists, 23 bonus points and six double digit points hauls.

With 36.9% ownership, there are plenty of managers hoping Gareth Bale can replicate his form of earlier in the season – only Wayne Rooney has more owners than the 9.2 priced Welshman. With 176 points, he has the second best points tally for a midfielder in the FPL game, having returned 10 goals, 11 assists and 21 bonus points. Despite some eye catching runs from midfield into opponents’ penalty boxes in recent matches, his form is nothing short of terrible, averaging just three points a game in the last 10 Gameweeks. Aaron Lennon also has the potential to produce in the midfield but, with game time far from guaranteed, it’d be more than just a punt to consider snapping him up.

Patched up is a fair description of the Spurs defence. Ledley King is unlikely to play twice during Gameweek 36 due to his ongoing knee problem, Michael Dawson is out for the season, though Younes Kaboul could be set to return from a knee problem, despite being ruled out by Redknapp earlier in the week. It leaves William Gallas as the only centre-half likely to feature twice – the former Arsenal man has started three of the last four and, at just 4.6, offers a cut-price route into the back-four. His prospects would certainly be boosted if Kaboul does, indeed, overcome his knee injury.

With Benoit Assou-Ekotto a major doubt due to a shoulder problem, we’re overlooking the left-back’s obvious potential. Instead, we’re looking at Kyle Walker. The 6.1 priced right-back has returned 121 points so far, providing with one goal, one assist and five bonus points to date. Brad Friedel also offers potential – the 5.7 priced veteran has returned 134 points and accrued 110 saves this term and has played every minute of his side’s campaign.

Cheeky Punts

So often the man who assists the assist, Luka Modric tends to miss out on the points hauls his team mates have enjoyed during the season. Nevertheless his three goals, six assists and 11 bonus points cannot be dismissed. Priced at 7.9, he has started all but two games and has achieved double digit gameweeks on two occasions.

4 points separate the top 3 in my ML, which I've just been toppled from the top of.

Is the team good to go? Considering the unthinkable previously and benching RVP for Siggy.

    Vorm (Tremmel)

    McAuley Collins Williamson (Evans, Taiwo)

Mata bale VDV (c) dempsey (Siggy)

    Jelly RVP Cisse (vc)

can't transfer Collins out, unfortunately, no FTs left (he's a remnant from my gw 34/35 policy), didn't know it was the season he was out for though, thanks. Think I'll flip a coin for Siggy RVP!

Well it says hes supposed to be back tomorrow, but ive seen groin injuries before. But dont shoot me if he plays before the end of the season 😛 If i had a gun to my head and had to choose, id go Siggy, if that helps you out in any way.

Forced with a straight choice as you are, I'd play the Sig (WOL) over RVP (sto) any GW, and I don't see why this should change now: relegation pressure might even open the defence wider than usual.

In the DGW scheme of things, it's no biggie either way, so I'd definitely do it!

Close, Rooney for me but only because i love Siggy and hate Rooney :p Consider Fulham defence? Away vs shaky Liverpool reserves who only fires blanks anyway and S`land at home next week. Everton also might be a good shout but you already have Howard so i guess never mind. Dont really fancy Spurs for clean sheets due to "have to win" and fresh injuries.

My thoughts are since you would want RVP back next week anyway you should just stick with him. If you want Rooney back as well then i think you should look elsewhere for coverage. HBA/Pienaar are good options if you have midfield slots. Fwiw i would look to Cissè before Jelly, hes just too good to ignore even though fixtures are harder.

    Morning all.

So BAE has right royally naused up my weekend plan!

    Currently looking at

    Krul
    Sagna/Taiwo/Caulker
    Dempsey/Pineaar/Siggy/HBA
    Cisse/Kun/Jelavic

    Sorenson / Jevans/Valencia/BAE

I'm on a 8pt hit having drafted in BAE the night before the injury announcement. I'm now contemplating going upto a 12 pt hit to try and counter this.

    My options are

    1. BAE out and bring in either Hibbert/Jags/JT or Walker
    2. Valencia out for VDV/Bale or Mata and then play a 5 midfield and bench Kun
    3. Siggy out for any of the above 3 and bench Valencia

Anybody got any thoughts on this. I don't really want to go upto 12 but it's a great week to try and boost my overall ranking

I've got 12 million in the bank so money is really no object!

    Cheers guys.

Thats why you dont make transfers early, lesson learned i hope:) Anyway, more hits for defence usually not a good idea, but i would do Terry or Huth if you decide. Dont bench Siggy, cue 13pointer for him this week 😛

Thanks for that patronising little dig at the beginning 😉

I really don't fancy Stoke to get anything from this dbl, they seem to be fizzing out like they did last season, so Huth would not be in my sights. I have no Spurs coverage so I'm leaning more towards the Valencia out and play 5 in midfield.

Can anyone really see Kun doing a great deal against Man U?

Np buddy 😉 Well, Stoke have 6 cleanies @home which arent a ton, but Arsenal are bleeding atm and Theo/Arteta out hurts the service for RVP. Huth also has goalthreat and i could totally see them getting one cleanie. And yes, i can see Kun doing the damage. He`s hot, City`s hot, they have nothing to lose and i expect them to drive the game, and hes on pens atm. That said, im tossing Tevez myself 😛

Cissè i think for me, wont decide until the final moment. VDV is an option but he might not make the full 180, i think Bale is a better option than him simply bc he doesnt tire/get easy injuries. Cissè just scores and scores, cant really see Wigan containing him and will be funny to see how Chelsea reacts against a team that plays like the have been doing the last weeks. Also Chelsea need the win, could give Newcastle space on the break.

2 cleanies with half a defence left and one game against the best counter-team in the league atm? I see maximum one CS, and JT has been removed from offensive returns especially since the emergence of Cahill. Also, i rate Caulker/Turners chances his weekend. Besides, JT does have some rib trouble, although he is a tough nookie he just might feel it.

Jagielka is the safe bet, but I have a feeling JT can come up with a couple of goals before the season comes to an end.

    A) To bake brownie or not to bake brownie (best in the world btw), I have a football game tomorrow so perhaps not eh?

    B)
    Cahill > Walker
    Surman > Pienaar
    RVP > Jelavic
    -8pts
Already have Ade and Bale and I need to sell Surman and Cahill otherwise I will have a rubbish team for GW37, so this rules out Chelsea defense(Liverpool in GW37) and VDV (I have enough attacking spurs cover). GW38 should be fine even with my current squad.

It will be a tough choice choosing between an Everton or Spurs defender. Hopefully I make the right one in the end.

I can't get him because my rival has him, he has dempsey too so I can't get him either. Otherwise I think Mata is a fine option, I still prefer Pienaar though.

Its because I looked at my GW37 team and I might have to make a change due to injuries and Richards rotation.

        I'd end up playing Evans(mci)GW36 then Richards(new)/Rangel(mun)

        2 terrible fixtures

when for a hit I could have 3 great fixtures with an Everton or Spurs player. So its worth the extra 4pt hit I think because of my defensive problems. I would love to keep Cahill even if he could only play 1 game in the DGW but I fear he could be out for a while

Brownie with Ice Cream are always good.

Wait on possible RDM press conf I suppose. I have Enrigue and can't see him starting 2 games. Doing a trade for a def might be a waste especially for a hit, but hey 12pts with 2 CS's is a nice reward. Thing is the bottom teams are playing waayyy above themselves at the moment and are scoring. Pity BAE is a doubt.

Yeah I'm not keen on using a trade for a defender either really. Its just that I'd end up with a rubbish defense for both GW36 and 37 if I didn't. Hopefully Cahill is fit though.

I think I will bake that brownie and may even get some Icecream too

Yea he was never going to flourish vs his Spanish counterparts. RDM realized it and subbed him off early. Two home games is simply Mata's cuppa.

        Looking at something like this:

        Cech (Bog)
        JT Hibbert Distin/Huth/Jags (Verm Evans)
        VDV Bale/Demp Mata Sig (Moses)
        Jellyfish Ade Cisse

guess you're probably right. what do you think his chances for euros are? probably slim? you may be right but i think they will be pretty tough home games for you tbh

i'd avoid huth in the back. don't think he's a good shout
and i'd probablly go demps or try to get him + bale
have you thought of maybe a pog punt instead of ade?

Taking a 4 pt hit to get in two mids for Walcott and Morrison. Have dempsey, siggy, Valencia, cisse, augero, Rvp. Will have 14.6 after transfers.

    Thinking Pienaar and Kalou.

    Any suggestions?

If you wanna punt on Spurs, go Lennon+Pienaar. Cue Lennon for tearing it up as `Arry goes back to the 4-2-3-1 that was so successfull in the beginning.

Worth a punt on a TOT midparker given they'll be goals aplenty v BOL/BLB. VDV leaves you with abt 5 mill so Petrov might be do-able.

I think I'll do Sess -> VDV for a -4. Just three games left for Sess, Sunderland off form, and the last two games nasty. Whereas VDV has 4 decent fixtures. That would give me:

    KRUL
    SIMPSON Verm Turner
    DEMPSEY BALE VDV Siggy
    CISSE JELLY Rooney

    Subs: Vorm; Valencia, Komp, Evans

Does that look good to go for the dgw? (Or is Pienaar or Mata a better option than VDV?)
