International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 1?

Fantasy managers are faced with the unusual situation of an international break taking place immediately before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

A week of international fixtures got underway in midweek, with many key top-flight players in action for their nations and missing out on pre-season preparations with their clubs as a consequence.

The positive news is that only those representing European countries will be away from their clubs, as UEFA tries to play catch-up with the Nations League.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m), Son Heung-min (£9.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£8.5m) will be staying put, then, while those European players who are on international duty at least won’t have to endure an arduous trek back from further afield given that all Nations League matches will take place on the continent.

This article gives a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their sides during this period, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

Is starting with 2 Man players on the bench too much money?

Not just £. Don't forget potential injuries and coronavirus isolation factors, so have a bcak up plan. Personally I think 2 is too dangerous unless you can field 11 good players in GW1.

      No.

Weigh up the opportunity cost vs future freedom less restrictions of making this decision early.

It feels about right to me.

But I’m rubbish at this game.

I currently have Martial and Greenwood on my bench. Fairly happy with my GW1 team so I don't see an issue with it. Puts you in a really good place for GW2 and beyond

Just got Foden. Was going to have Greenwood on bench but also consider what you might miss out on (Wiilan v Fulham) and can wait until gw 3 to lose him. I have one dud on my bench, Keinan Davis so this leaves me one bench player in gw1.

Who do you think scores more across GW1/2? Or extremely similar?

    A) Ings(cpl), Martial(CPL), Son(sou), AWB(CPL)

    B) Werner(bha, LIV), Fernandes(CPL), Justin(BUR)

Is it better to go with Werner only from chelsea attack at the start?

Wait around 3 gws to assess and see who is the best chelsea mid to get out of Ziyech Havertz and Pulisic

They are going to score a lot I think. And probably concede a lot too, but 2 Chelsea attackers might make sense. They are going to be exciting to watch

Seems the most sensible and be on Alli/son in order to hop to whichever Chelsea mid looks good

I think they’ll tighten up as well and be a bit of a city, not great at the back but so good going forward they still keep a lot of CS

Who will start? They aren’t all going to be in the starting 11 imo

Werner is the safest bet but they played Brighton preseason and really that goal wasn’t his making in any shape or form. Could be a difficult fixture with a team trying to gel.

All Werner actually needs to do is to convert big chances that others create for him.

Oh I agree, chelsea will create a lot of chances and Werner if any is the one I’d want (have) from the off. I don’t think gw1&2 are great for Chelsea tho - wouldn’t want further investment until we see them settle

It’s the way I’m going to start.

My only concern is that I don’t see him being a 90 minute man, with the other strikers Chelsea have at their disposal.

I'm hoping that his age will suppress those FPL Towers hawks who want to make it 9.0. I'm expecting 8.5. Any more and it's a definite wait and see for me. He might even not play in GW1

he's 9.9 in the Sky game so i'm guessing around 9 in FPL

Donny Van Beek also has impressive stats and is at 7m.

Can't see them making Havertz the same price as Pulisic or more expensive than Ziyech.

      7.5 to 8.0

Trying to think what FPL's thought process would be.

1 goal more than Son in their equivalent domestic league last season but 5 less assists, plus he's arriving in a brand new league. However, he also arrives on a big transfer fee which inevitably will hype him up (Which is fair, tbh) so I can see a 8.5m / 9m price tag.

They’ll stick him at 8 and create Havertz and Ziyech camps.

Maybe, but they realise that they cocked it up with Pepe and they always put a tariff on for mid season signings. With due respect, I very much hope that you're wrong.

Pepe was not a mid season signing though. We signed him last summer. Criminally overpriced with Martial and Pulisic both 7.5, they essential priced him out of the game. Similar this season with Auba, unbelievable that he costs more than Sterling and KDB.

He doesn’t half look good though - seems outrageously talented for that age & already scoring goals for fun

I’d be tempted to take a chance on a Havertz Werner double up if he was 8.5

Looks to be a lot of value in Chelsea’s attack

            Same with Man Utd

Could easily see players like Werner, Havertz, Pulisic, Ziyech, Bruno, Rashford, Martial, Greenwood all being a full 1.0 if not 1.5 more expensive next season if things go their way this year

Morning Maximus. I know you are a big fan on double/triple up on LFC, however, I have TAA, do i go with Robbo or Doherty, given how close they were last season and Spurs fixtures better than LFC ??

I’d say whichever one you are personally most comfortable holding longer term Corgzz - you don’t want to be chopping & changing those guys unless you get very lucky with timing their hauls, so just being able to be patient with whichever one you go with will likely pay off longer term

Very hard to gauge single gameweeks

Personally I’m going to chance VVD alongside TAA - but am very tempted to somehow eventually try fit Robbo in alongside them after a few weeks, or later in the season

Perhaps should have included Dubraka-less Newcastle who are much shorter odds than Leeds & West Ham to be relegated? As I've posted previously, Kane (c) in GW3 is going to set the cat amongst the pigeons.

Are you going to have any non playing GW1 players from City/ United in your squad for GW 1?
Have Foden in my current draft but should I even bother really.

Nearly all my drafts have bruno on the bench - just think it puts you one step ahead and gives the option of no transfers gw 2 then 3 changes he 3.

I think 1 is ok. A blank gameweek any other point in the season and you'd bench 1 non-playing asset in a heartbeat, especially if they've got a good fixture the week after (thinking man u)

I like it but it’s close to my team so probably doesn’t mean much.
1 dilemma I had was with the midfield, you’ve gone son and soucek I have alli and perrirea.

What’s your thinking behind your picks. Looking at it on paper I just think my duo score more.
Alli has done it before Perrier’s is the main main both central both very attacking and arguably better fixtures for Albion over ham?

I think ali is a punt. Could be brilliant could score 6 first 3 games. Just think son will outscore him by a lot and is much more involved in attacks. Soucek because I thought he was the best option with the 6m I had left

IMHO benching VDB is a waste of space and money and if you're sure with Auba captain for the first two, better go without Salah and pick TAA+Robbo

Rodrigo to Davis and Mitro to Ings mate

The VDB option really is to bring into wk2 as I'm expecting points on the 11 anyway so Mitchell will be coming on. Keeping an eye on the Chelsea minds to see how they work esp pulisic havertz and ziyech.

Salah is in to allow me funds to get kdb/sterling as no man City players at the mo.

Rodrigo to davis will do.. Im interested to know the ings mitro equation a bit more.. Ideally I'd luv to have the trio of ings mitro and Werner

Pope and Lloris have the same price and judging by the fixtures and possibility of CS in the first 10 GWs, TOT is better than BUR and allows you to save a very important 0.5 off McCarthy by choosing Button

Soucek is a good choice but he's facing quarantine threat. You can decide on last minute. I like Willian but he's also uncertain to start so I'll wait on last minute presser

Mitrovic will surely get goals but also with a string of blanks, YC and missed pen. Playing with 4-4-2 can give you a better choice at DF, for ex VVD or Robbo if you can afford. From GW4, will be a smooth sail for LIV DF I reckon

Is having all of Werner, Havertz and Ziyech just too much. Then there is Pulisic.

All have been brilliant last season.

    From the 2019/2020 season stats

Pulisic scored 11 goals with 10 goals assists.

Hakim Ziyech scored 8 goals with 21 goals assist

Timo Werner scored 34 goals with 13 goals assists

Havertz scored 28 goals with 9 goals assists.

It'd imply three signings from outside the PL are going to replicate their last season form in a league notorious for making good players look bad. Think of Shevchenko, Veron, Di Maria, Higuain, Morata. Then again you do get the odd Salah, Bruno, Zlatan, Aubameyang, Suarez.

I can't imagine all three will thrive, especially all three at the same club.

I was told that my negative COVID test, taken after arrival in the UK, did not mean I could come out of the 14 day quarantine imposed ... will it therefore be the same for Soucek, or do footballers get some kind of special dispensation ? A) Upgrade Mitchell to VVD and play 442

Look at last seasons heat maps.

Havertz has more touches around the penalty spot, but Ziyech has more in the final third.

      Havertz 12G, 6A in 30 games
Ziyech has 6G and 12A in 20 games, generally subbed earlier.

      Different leagues
      Different teams.
      Rotation issues.

Lots of different factors to consider.

Under Ralphs favoured 4222 formation he needs 2 strikers. In the pecking order Che is firmly number 2. Long will appear if we are holding a lead and need fast legs up front and Obafemi will be limited to sub appearances imo. Im seriously considering Che given his price and form post lockdown.

Fulham are a fairly defensive side under Parker, correct? One of the reasons I'm not considering Mitro. Pereira looks very appealing in Bilic's offensive West Brom side, especially if they sign Batshuayi.

Mitro can carry the ball from his half and score.. no messi, but has a huge fpl following, who would keep egging him to score

Personally prefer ayew at that price and would have che above mitro. Rodrigo is a possible star, can perform if provided the right formation, ala Spain. I think biesla will use him properly

The move of Grady D to WBA, criminal as it was on the part of Gollivan, does mean that the Baggies now have a 5.5 midfielder who should start every single game when available. While I do not have faith in the generally inflexible Bilić to adapt as needed, he definitely had a plan in mind, and now has his key player back. Could Grady be the guy who gets all those consolation goals in 5-1 and 4-1 shellackings? If so surely he's a decent look? What's the bar for any midfielder? A 1:1 price/points ratio? Hardly, even if some of them were getting that weekly during restart.

I doubt I would be able to find the funds, could be a good differential though for sure.

I have him doh and trent in my draft right now. Problem is that I have only bruno from Manchester teams and will miss out on their hauls.
