It’s here. After ten gruelling stages, we’re down to the final two participants of the Paddy Power Cup VI. Gameweek 37 saw our final four lock horns in the Semi-Finals. Here’s how they played out…

1. Optimus 45 – 69 mch

Both Optimus and mch nailed the captaincy for Gameweek 37, with the irrepressible Robin van Persie delivering the goods once again. The difference ultimately was mch’s relegation-threatened players proving they still had some fight left in them. A double Queens Park Rangers clean sheet, along with a bundle of points courtesy Martin Petrov puts him in the Grand Final.

2. DrD 53 – 49 ajay_kl

Joining mch is DrD after his razor-thin four-point victory over ajay_kl. Again, both Fantasy managers backed the Dutchmen with their captaincy, but what separated them was just the odd point here and there. An extra save point, a midfielder clean sheet, and Wayne Rooney’s assist was the difference.

So, the Gameweek 38 fixtures are as follows…

The Grand Final

mch (1,225th overall) Vs. DrD (1,260th)

3rd Place Play-Off

Optimus (1,676th) Vs. ajay_kl (42,029th)

In terms of overall standings it’s our closest ever final, with just 35 Fantasy Premier League places and a single point between mch and DrD.

Here’s a reminder of what’s at stake, courtesy of Paddy Power and ourselves…

  • Winner – £150 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
  • Runner-up – £75 worth of free bets. £30 Amazon Voucher
  • 3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £20 Amazon Voucher

Good luck to all four managers competing in this final Gameweek of the 2011/12 season!

The Midfielders of the Season is going to be hard to decide as there are have been no real season-long performers bar Dempsey. Although playing just half a season, McClean is the only other nailed on vote for me

I think Siggy would deserve one of my votes purely for the impact he has had at Swansea.

Its almost like there needs to be two lineups for each half of the season

Bale - Silva - Nani - Dempsey in the first

Moses - Siggy - VDV - HBA in the next.

    Hi,

    My first post !!

    this is my team...

    Vorm (Ruddy)
Kompany Vermaelen Evans J (Turner, Shotton)
    Dempsey Fellaini Sigurdsson Valencia (McClean)
    Rooney Jelavic Van Persie

I'm 2pts behind. I not sure what change to make. Do i gamble and take a -4pt hit ? either one of the Everton lads. Got 5.4m in the bank to spend.

    Chasing 20 points:
    took a 8 point hit..so its 28.

    ME: Aguero(c),Moses,Bale, RVP, Lescott,Kelly
    Him: Rooney(c),Sess,Dempsey,Cisse,Turner + 28 points

no chance of me winning.. but still last try. An aguero hattrick maybe and rooney blank would do it.

Jelly is common to both.. jelly > torres worth a hit?

Ha, this is exactly what I'm thinking. I'd much rather lose valencia (especially as I have mata) but was wanting to bring moses in. TBH I still might lose mata as while chelsea should rack the goals up, no idea how much he's gonna be involved. Could be anything from 0-60mins but surely won't be higher.

Pretty much. Unless you can afford Cisse/Jela>Aguero and keep hold of Rooney without a hit.

    My team stands as this:

    Given
    Walker, Vermaelen, Caulker
    Siggy, Pienaar, Maloney, Valencia
    RVP, Rooney (vc), Tevez (c)

    Subs: Bego, Dempsey, Kelly, Evans.

Do I use my free transfer to:

    A) Change Dempsey to VDV and bench Valencia for him?
    B) Dempsey to Ramires, bench Val for him and then Evans to Kompany and bench Caulker?
    C) Evans to sub 5.3 defender.
    D) Given to sub 5.1 goalkeeper.
    E) Other.

Defence is good, keepers not so much, but you should use your transfer on midfield. Dempsey to VDV seems reasonable.

Can't afford Val to VDV, but thanks anyway. Will probably just do Dempsey to VDV. My rival will have Val anyway, so might be a good differential to make up ground.

This one got lost... Who’s favourite to win the following match-up?

    A) Jelavic, Torres, Silva, VDV, Kompany

    B) RVP, Rooney, Moses, Siggy, Caulker + 9pts

    Sorry, any thoughts ?

    Vorm (Ruddy)
Kompany Vermaelen Evans J (Turner, Shotton)
    Dempsey Fellaini Sigurdsson Valencia (McClean)
    Rooney Jelavic Van Persie

    I’m 2nd, 2pts behind the leader.
I not sure what change to make. Do i gamble and take a -4pt hit ? either one of the Everton lads. Got 5.4m in the bank to spend.

Has anyone else just received a copy of CitiBet (betting magazine)? never seen it before, but got some good snippets for FPL...
"Manchester City have scored 3 goals or more in 11 of their 12 home league games against sides currently sat 8th or lower"

not good reading for ManU fans:

In the PL perhaps, but Liverpool were top going into the last game of the 88/89 season.

Last night I had a dream that Chelsea beat blackburn 10-0 and John Terry scored twice.

This morning I wake to reports that blackburns 3rd choice goalie might start.

Do I replace Jelly man with Torres/Sturridge for a hit? or do I slap myself round the face and stop being such a silly fanny?

I just wish I knew whether mata would play any part. I'd be happy with 45 mins as could easily do some damage in that time.

I'm really liking the Idea of Torres this week, He's gunna want to make RDM want to play him in the Final next week. Not sure its worth a hit though, I think Jelly will pick up some points.

I agree Jelly could do damage and I'm chasing 12 point lead so really want to avoid a hit.

I do have John Terry though so if he nets twice I will be covered 🙂 No cheese or red wine tonight.

Right, I could really do with some opinions if you guys don't mind.

I'm basically level on points with one guy, and we're both about 13 points behind the ML leader. (I really wanna win, these guys are my good freinds and have been playing a while where as this is my first year)

    Leader has Aguero, Rooney, Cisse

Other rival has RVP, Ade, Suarez

    I have Jelly, Ade, Cisse

The rest of our teams are very different to each other as well, except we all have Dempsey and Siggy.

So, I only have 1 FT and am planning Cisse --> Torres/ Tevez/ Aguero/ RVP, who would you guys get?

Would you consider paying 4 points (putting me 17 off leader and 4 off other rival) to swap Dempsey --> Ramires/ Yaya/ Silva?

Any thoughts would be most welcome 🙂

I would do Cisse to RVP to give you a differential with leader and Dempsey to Ramires for Chelsea cover as I expect them to comfortably beat B'Burn.
