Top 10k FPL managers and FFS poll voters disagree on Kane’s captain credentials

Harry Kane‘s (£10.8m) tightened his hold over the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers in Gameweek 6.

The in-form Spurs man, currently the top-scoring Fantasy asset in any position, has proved to be the most popular captain at this level for the latest round of matches.

49.6% of managers inside the top 10k felt Kane was the best option for the armband, perhaps swayed by the fact that he has four goals in his last two Premier League trips to Burnley.

The most interesting part of Kane winning the captaincy debate at the top level of FPL this week is the fact that he was largely overlooked for the armband on a worldwide scale and in Fantasy Football Scout’s latest poll.

Just 20.8% captained Kane overall, while he only mustered the support of just 18.7% of the Fantasy Football Scout vote.

At this early stage of the season, it is still difficult to insist with cast-iron certainty that the top 10k always know better than everybody else but this is perhaps the first time in 2020/21 that we have a chance to really test their opinion against the masses.

The difference in opinion between the two groups of managers certainly makes Kane’s effective ownership in the top 10k rather ominous.

For the second week in a row, he has the highest figure in this department in the top 10k, with effective ownership of 139.9%.

Meanwhile, the people’s choice Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) is less of a force at this level than our polls previously indicated.

Despite winning the Scout captaincy poll and earning more armbands in the world than anyone else, the Egyptian has the second-highest effective ownership among the top 10k for Gameweek 6 (108.7%).

Even without the captaincy, Kane is now the most popular player among the top 10k anyway.

His standard ownership at this level increased by roughly 19 percentage points between the Gameweek 5 and 6 deadlines, rising from 70.4% to 89.2%.

That takes him past Salah, whose ownership among these managers has dropped from 80% to 72.7%.

That drop sees Son Heung-min (£9.4m) overtake him as the top 10k’s most fashionable midfielder, although the Egyptian is still ahead on effective ownership when we take captaincy into account.

This week’s saga surrounding the fitness of James Rodríguez (£8.0m) has, unsurprisingly, seen his stock drop at this level too. He remains the third-most-popular, but he has lost 10 percentage points of ownership among the top 10k.

Jack Grealish (£7.2m) and Wilfried Zaha (£7.2m) appear to have been among the chief replacements for Everton’s playmaker, as their selection rates increased by 7.8 and 9.6 percentage points respectively.

The sales of Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) have had an impact at the top end of FPL as well as the rest of the world.

He was owned by 39.8% of the top 10k for Gameweek 5, more than any other defender. With the Gameweek 6 deadline now behind us, Alexander-Arnold sits in just 27.9% of teams at this level, Tyrick Mitchell (£4.2m) and James Justin (£4.8m) overtaking him as the most fashionable defenders.

Meanwhile, Emiliano Martínez (£4.8m) has finally crept into the top 10k template, now the second-most-popular goalkeeper with 31.7% backing at this level, although he failed to keep a clean sheet in Friday’s meeting with Leeds.

Chip usage was not particularly heavy in the top 10k for Gameweek 6.

The Wildcard was the most-used, although it was only deployed by 4.9% of managers at this level.

Meanwhile, while it can be easy to assume top 10k managers at this stage of the season have made a strong start following heavy chip usage, it is to their credit that 46.6% of them are still yet to use any at all.

36.9% have used one chip, almost certainly the Wildcard in most cases, which has been used by 38.2% of top 10k managers.

Those two goals by Bamford were incredible.

If De Bruyne scored them we'd all be saying we've already seen one of the goals of the season. Ridiculous goals.

The finish for the second goal was ridiculous. And the audacity to take the shot on for his second was pretty surprising.

Whenever a player is able to get a shot on goal you can usually put it down to bad defending. Those finishes weren't because of bad defending, they were down to his skill.

A good mate of mine who is a die hard Leeds fan (albeit an Aussie) has been defending Bamford to the hilt on Leeds fan forums (and elsewhere) last season and this season!
Bamford gets so much unnecessary stick, even from his own fans, so I was delighted to wake up to his haul as a double Villa owner!
Caveat: If he is really that bad Bielsa wouldn't have kept the faith!

Here is an article titled- Could the premier league suit Bamford?

I guess the answer is yes.

Also a Leeds fan. I have a love/hate relationship with Bamford. He has so many great qualities to his game but his finishing and touch can be so damn frustrating. Will hold my hand up and say I didn't think he'd be good enough to lead the line for us in the premier league but even without his goals he's played very well. Don't expect his scoring form to continue but he should do okay in terms of FPL.
He slightly reminds me of Niall Quinn... big guy, good hold up play, plays to his strengths and often in the right place right time. But Quinn had the benefit of playing with a strike partner which is why I didn't think Bamford would cut it in PL.

Why don’t you think his scoring will continue?

He’s on form bags of confidence and Leeds play an attacking game against any opposition

From watching him and Leeds a lot in championship and seeing how wasteful he is in front of goal. He scored 16 in 47 last season in a team that created significantly more goal scoring chances than any other championship team, and he was on penalties for a few of those goals.

Posters getting angry about the results in one particular game and their poor luck -- i.e. a Bamford hat trick or Grealish two missed shots -- don't understand how probabilities work. Over time if you make +EV plays you will do well. If you don't, you won't. It's really quite simple. Take the emotion out of it.

What is the latest on KDB anyway? In an ideal world I check the lineup before the match and bring him into my Sky team possibly for Grealish to get the extra match out of him

But it means not getting as much sleep as I would like in order to check. Is it worth sleep deprivation?

    Any thoughts of these moves.
Want to hold FT this week
    And then do
    Castagne and Davis
    To
    3.9 and Antonio with 2FT in GW8
Would leave this team, but need Antonio to drop to 6.2 which now looks likely - without a Davis drop.

    Ryan

    TAA Robertson Lamptey

    Salah Sterling Son Rodríguez Barkley

    DCL Antonio

    Steer KWP Brewster 3.9

Fair point and I only added Robertson from this GW
The logical move would have been Barnes to Grealish
            I went Barnes and Taylor

Bamford had one of those nights where he was in the right place at the right time and everything he touched turned to gold with some great goals ... last time I saw something similar this season from a mid priced forward was Watkins v Liverpool 😉

Just to clairfy: Bamford is the real deal. Every Leeds attack goes through him and under Bielsa's bullish counter-attacking tactics they will score a lot of goals.

He's 3rd in points in the whole game behind the Spurs duo, yet people are calling transferring him in a knee-jerk. It's not. It's the most value 5.8 can get you in this game. And with his double rise imminent, he's as essential as it gets at the moment.

Bamford is OK. He will score some goals he will have other games which aren't so good. I suspect he is about the same as Watkins and the other forwards in that price bracket. It's just a question of whether this is points chasing or catching someone at the start of being hot. It's difficult to tell which one it is

I'm just glad I owned the guy already.

Let's say both are good at their price and have form. The fixtures say both will have some difficult games.

      Maupay : tot / BUR / avl / LIV
      Bamford : LEI / cry / ARS / eve

Both teams created a lot of chances for their FWD. However, Maupay has penalty. That still some advantage.

7.2M is a very nice price, just need him to nail that spot down.

Sounds good, but there is a hidden logic chain perhaps missed.

In order to nail the spot down, he will most likely need to get goals and assists.

Getting goals and assists means he won't be 7.2 anymore by the time we want to purchase him.

Hi .. If Zaha and Palace doesn't look convincing in attacking again, it's probably time for him to leave my team and the key question is who to buy.

    Martinez - Steer
    Robbo - Saiss - Lamptey - Mitchell - Kilman
    Salah - Son - Hames - Zaha - Foden
    Kane - DCL - Brewster

With 9.9m budget, these options are for straight swap.

    A) Zaha -> Rashford ... But Martial will return soon. How often will Ole play two FWDs up top?
    B) Zaha -> Havertz / Pulisic ... Not sure if Lampard found his preferred XI and formation yet.

Rashford looks like a prime target for me but also wondering if it's worth to go for Bruno.

    C) Zaha + Foden -> Bruno + 5.9m MF (Barkley went up already. Probably go down to Soucek and save 1.0m. But, no City?)
    D) Zaha + Hames -> Bruno + 7.2m MF (Grealish? Still good after last night that he almost scored? But, sell Hames?)
    E) Zaha + Saiss -> Bruno + 4.5m DF (Lots of nailed starters and still have Foden & Hames. But, sell Saiss?)

    Any advice please.

Keep Zaha imo. he has had returns in 3 out of 5 games and has good fixtures coming. Whats not to like?

I watched some games and not impressed with Palace attacking.

        > 2 goals against United ... That's his lucky day. Not sure if it will happen often. One is a re-take penalty which he wasn't dedicated person.

        > 1 goal against Brighton ... Another lucky for penalty. Palace created 0 chance.

That's the main reason for me.

E is safe for long term, Saiss fixtures gets tricky soon

You're right. CS potential from GW8-11 look unlikely.

Better to give advice after the United vs Chelsea game. Both sides have been a mixed bag so far, let's see how they do in this 6 pointer.

I like E, selling Saiss before a few cleanable fixtures may backfire. Fernandes is winning points for fun though.

Good point and great that we don't have to wait too long to scout United v Chelsea. Thank you. 🙂

Would be nice if we returned to form and handed West Ham a thrashing, seems unlikely though with our form and theirs. Hopefully Foden returns once or twice this GW so I can reduce the temptation to pull the trigger and Sterling could be my (C) next GW so an early brace wouldn't hurt.

Foden had good chances last GW. Hope he up his sharpness and get a few returns.

    Choose one

    A) Bellerin
    B) Chilwell
    C) Gomez

Between A and B for me.

Chilwell might lose some free-kick or corner to Ziyech (if he has chance to play) but still has goal threat. Leaning to him.

Is it just me but why do the top 10k articles of the last couple of weeks remark with surprise that there is a skew to Kane for captaincy (as compared to the broader population slanted to the more widely held Salah). Missing the simple point that the 10k are there because of Kane (far too early in the season to read anything else in to it).
