Which FPL players are on international duty and when ahead of Gameweek 9

The final international break of the calendar year is underway, with over 200 Premier League players in action for their nations over the next week.

Some international sides are again cramming in a triple-header of games over this period and, as was the case in September and October, a handful of Fantasy assets will be taking part in all three of their respective countries’ matches.

Fatigue is certainly a concern ahead of Gameweek 9, then, be it through on-field exertions on the continent or due to long-haul flights back from further afield.

As was the case last month, a host of European teams – including England – are scheduled to contest UEFA Nations League games on Wednesday evening.

Gameweek 9 begins less than 72 hours after these matches have been played, with Newcastle United v Chelsea the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

The main concern might be the number of World Cup qualifiers held in South America, however.

The likes of James Rodriguez (£7.9m), Richarlison (£7.8m), Roberto Firmino (£9.2m), Thiago Silva (£5.5m) and Alex Telles (£5.5m) will have to endure long-distance flights back from their respective countries after being in action late on Tuesday night or in the early hours of Wednesday morning (UK time).

After the international break in October, Rodriguez, Richarlison and Firmino all started their clubs’ Gameweek 5 fixture (the early-afternoon Merseyside derby) but Thiago was rested by Chelsea.

Players such as Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) and Riyad Mahrez (£8.3m) are all in African Cup of Nations qualifying duty over the coming days, meanwhile.

The likes of Raul Jimenez (£8.4m) and Son Heung-min (£9.6m) have an easier ride, however, with Mexico and South Korea among the teams in friendly action in Europe.

The rest of this article is dedicated to a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their Premier League sides over the next week, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

Anything is possible, but local news were suggesting he could miss 4 weeks/6 games.

        Thanks for your replies.

From Klopp's quotes, its plain that TAA isn't fit to play during the international break.

However no concrete info that I can find to predict beyond that.

Yeah very much guesswork at the moment. I have TAA and Callum Wilson, plus Podence and Saiss i’m keen to change, so will wait for confirmed info before using my 2FTs.

Extremely reliable Merseyside journalist Paul Joyce has said he'll miss 4 weeks, 2 of which will be IB. So I'd almost say it's 100% guaranteed he won't play GW9.

Feel like he has flown under the radar but Vestegaard has recorded 6+ points in the last 6 gameweeks, the only player in the entire game to do so this season. Remarkable for any player let alone a 4.7 defender.

Yeah I've started to notice him too. Just Saint's defence is a bit unpredictable. One week, two weeks later bad.

Good luck to your country bro. Today you played better than us for 80 minutes. We had that lucky goal by Jovic but at the end penalties are just luck. It hurts me because we cant gualify for EURO,unlike for World Cup when we played 3 of last 4 World cups. Again good luck to Scotland and enjoy the moment

Don’t make a change this week and then it’ll only cost you four

If you are planning to play Brewster week in week out, it is a terrible idea at all.
If not, I would keep the Son > KDB part for the next week and it would only cost -4.

Got 2 freebies, please help guys! Torn between getting Ziyech and Bruno. Which option is best A or B ?

    A) Foden > Ziyech + Saiss > Coufal
    B) Son > Bruno + Saiss > Coufal

    Martinez (Steer)
    Chilwell, Robbo, Lamptey (Saiss, Mitchell)
    Podence, Salah, Son, Grealish (Foden)
    Bamford, DCL, Kane..

      A) I would normally prefer Bruno over Ziyech in isolation but Son+Ziyech looks better than Foden+Bruno

This article is great. But why release it now when the majority of international teams have already played. Would’ve been far more use if we could’ve had this on Sunday.

The article is pretty irrelevant because there's two kind of managers:

      1. Casuals who made their transfers already and dont care if the players they bring in or out play internationals
      2. People who wait until after internationals and the pre game pressers next week

This article is irrelevant for both.

It's such a knuckleheaded simplification. The idea that no experienced managers have fluid or responsive transfer policies, and the idea that managers are a fixed binary of 'Casual' or... 'Not Casual'?

I don't understand why Brosstan continues with the casual thing. Does he think it's trolling or is he just that simple?

Not sure it has any relevance. See what players, internationals or not, are still eligible on Friday week before making any decisions on transfers, captain, subs etc.

The article isn't irrelevant. There are lots of managers, most I suspect, who will sometimes make early transfers and sometimes wait until later. It's helpful to see what commitments players have and weigh this up against prospective price changes.

Not really guaranteed, the usual game sub has been Milner.

Milner came on for TAA this weekend. He is the safe and experienced sub for TAA.

But it’s possible that Williams wins the position or playing time in coming games.
