Taylor can provide value route into Burnley’s appealing fixtures

After a slow start for last week’s trio of differentials, we’re back again ahead of Gameweek 14 on the hunt for the next low-owned bandwagon.

There’s no shortage of candidates to consider either.

This time, we’re focusing on differentials from Burnley, Chelsea and Everton, who we like the look of for Gameweek 14 and beyond.

As always, to qualify, the player must have an ownership of 5% or less at the time of writing.

Charlie Taylor

  • FPL ownership: 3.7%
  • Price: £4.4m
  • GW14-19 fixtures: WOL | lee | SHU | FUL | — | whu + liv

With four clean sheets in his last six appearances and an appealing set of forthcoming fixtures, Charlie Taylor (£4.4m) could be a solid under the radar pick.

Burnley have seen an upturn in their defensive performances of late, which has coincided with dressing room leaders Nick Pope (£5.4m), James Tarkowski (£5.3m) and Ben Mee (£4.9m) all being available. In fact, in the five league fixtures which they’ve all started together this term, the Clarets have kept four clean sheets and conceded just one goal.

Last season, investing in one of Sean Dyche’s backline was one of the easier decisions FPL managers had to make, given their record of 15 clean sheets was second only to Manchester City, and the current campaign seems to be following a similar path with only Aston Villa recording more shut outs to date. Encouragingly, their numbers suggest that further defensive improvements could be on the way too, with 18 goals conceded from an expected goal (xG) total of 16.13.

With Taylor, attacking returns are unlikely (he’s assisted just once in each of the Clarets’ last two campaigns), but his relationship with Dwight McNeil (£5.7m) down Burnley’s left is one of their key attacking weapons, with a large percentage of their play focused down that side. Amongst team-mates, only McNeil and Ashley Westwood (£5.3m) have delivered more crosses than Taylor this season, so an assist, while unlikely, is not completely out of the question.

However, the real appeal lies in Burnley’s clean sheet potential, and with home games against Wolves, Sheffield United and Fulham in the next four, further shut outs could be on the way. It is also worth noting that they have a Double Gameweek in January, so signing him now can help you be one player better off for that.

Christian Pulisic

Werner on Chelsea's left as Pulisic misses out on trip to Everton
  • FPL ownership: 2.4%
  • Price: £8.2m
  • GW14-19 fixtures: WHM | ars | AVL | MCI | — | ful + lei

Christian Pulisic (£8.2m) has endured a frustrating start to the season due to injury, but returned to the Blues’ starting XI against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night.

Making his first Premier League start since October, the former Dortmund winger played the full 90 minutes and was the most dangerous player on the pitch until shifted to the right-flank, where he struggled to make as much of an impact. However, until that switch, Pulisic showed his class, constantly running at opposition defenders with pace and trickery.

The 22-year-old’s hamstring issues have restricted him to just five Chelsea starts and nine appearances in all competitions this season, which has prevented him from finding any kind of rhythm. Despite this, he has still found the back of the net against Krasnodar and Leeds United, and fortunately, it doesn’t seem to take him long before he gets back into his stride after injury.

The Blues’ were on a good run of form going 17 games unbeaten before Everton and Wolves both managed to win by a single goal in the last two matches, but they do have an opportunity to get back on track with consecutive games to come against London rivals West Ham United and Arsenal. Interestingly, both sides have conceded most of their chances from their right-flank this season, which further heightens Pulisic’s appeal if he is to operate from that side.

Some rotation is to be expected amid a hectic Christmas schedule, but with Hakim Ziyech (£8.1m) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (£5.7m) injured, Frank Lampard’s options are reduced in the wide areas, and encouragingly, they will have had a generous six recovery days by the time their Gameweek 14 fixture comes around.

Pulisic tends to deliver when he starts, and although this move does come with risk, he could be a huge differential for those willing to invest early.

Michael Keane

  • FPL ownership: 5.0%
  • Price: £5.1m
  • GW14-19 fixtures: ARS | shu | MCI | WHU | wol | avl

Michael Keane (£5.1m) has played an integral role in helping Everton keep two clean sheets in their last two games.

With James Rodríguez (£7.7m) and Lucas Digne (£6.1m) absent, the Toffees have gone back to basics, fielding a back four of central-halves marshalled by Keane. That has meant their full-backs, Mason Holgate (£4.8m) and Ben Godfrey (£5.0m), have been less adventurous going forward, but as a result, they have restricted their opponents Chelsea and Leicester City to just nine shots in the box between them, with only five on target.

Against teams like Sheffield United, the onus might be on Everton to be more expansive, and in turn demand more from their full-backs in the final-third. However, this more pragmatic, well-drilled system is likely to stick for the visits of Arsenal and Manchester City, which bodes well for further defensive shut outs.

Keane is the only player to have started all 16 games in the league and EFL Cup for Everton this season, and has been consistently good in recent weeks. Against Leicester, he made more blocks and clearances than any colleague, and won all of his aerial duels. His threat from set-pieces is also worth noting ahead of their next two fixtures. Arsenal have improved defending dead-ball situations, but will be without the influential Gabriel (£5.0m), while only West Bromwich Albion have conceded more headed attempts than Sheffield United this term.

With two headed goals already from corners, and clean sheet potential too, Keane could be set to profit.

Hi folks. 2 FT 0 ITB.

    McCarthy
    Chilwell / R. James / Lamptey*
    Salah / KDB / Fernandes / Son / Grealish
    DCL / Bamford

    Forster // Coufal / Brewster / Ferguson

    A) Lamptey > Taylor
    B) [KDB + Brewster] > [Soucek + Kane]

BHA has the best CS odds this week, but Lamptey is somewhat of a doubt. He has mixed fixtures for the next few & DGW19 fixture isn't great, so maybe worth shipping? No like a CS vs. Sheffield United is guaranteed, anyway. Not many replacements are available/stand out due to budget but Taylor (4.4m) has decent fixtures short-term, and at least -has- a DGW19 pair.

B is something I may see myself doing soon, but think it could backfire given. I don't want to lose KDB if I don't have to.

Mixed on double-CHE to be honest. Still chipping in with odd assists, both good value. Just annoying to lose two CSs in one.

I reckon I would prefer to move one of them to Robertson, but downgrading one of the front 8 doesn't feel like optimal timing. Grealish may well be the fall guy during/after GW15. Will see what happens to the rest of the squad.

It's tempting. I may hold off till GW16. It's really only KDB vs Kane atm (as Soucek is benched in my squad). KDB still has the stats & I at least have Son to psuedo-cover some points. May get away with it.

B if you're brave and think Kane will outscore KdB. I don't like it though.

I'd honestly consider burning the FT here. There's no good immediate move. Lamptey > Taylor is nice long term, but come on... Brighton at home with one of the most attacking WBs in the league against SHU or Taylor at home to Wolves...

Haha, similar to me above mate. I think B, for similar reasons as my above post. Coufal is the better option (+ for DGW), but tougher fixture this week.

I've built a nice possible GW19 bench boost team, but it has terrible GW17 fixtures and necessitates an underwhelming GW18 Free Hit that would involve players I have right now (and want long term) but would have sold by then to prepare for the BB

That's a price of two GWs for me to get the reward of one... So I'll just FH19

For some, this is the other way around. FH18 might be best for your team, with the BB19 players also being okay in GW17 for you, making FH18 + BB19 your best shot. For others, it works with no chips at all. Some might need two wildcards plus both GW chips to sort out many things

I love how varied this is. Please don't try to follow people, as it really, really depends on your team

Also, there's a chance of more announcements before GW16 deadline. Slim chance, but stay flexible just in case

For me i can get a respectable GW18 and FH for 19.
Also my GW20 team is perfectly fine with the Trinity intact(just have to swap Sterling for Salah) and will have Kane too.

How have you drawn a different conclusion to me when we have such a similar team (same front 7) ? That's pretty curious to me.

BB19 makes perfect sense imo. Just don't be greedy with it and try to go for all 15 DGWers.

      I'm aiming for a 19 BB of:

      Martinez McCarthy
      Zouma James Dallas Coufal Balbuena
      Salah KdB Fernandes Son Raphinha
      Adams Giroud Bamford

The BB is effectively for Martinez Son KdB and Dallas. I'm happy with that, and this team retains its core structure and doesn't require a GW20 wildcard.

It does need a GW18 FH but considering this side only has 3 players who have a game in 18, a free hit to get triple city, triple Spurs and a total of 8 players seems absolutely worth it to me.

      1. Ze_Austin

If I get that BB19 team or something similar, I'll use my WC in GW20. Many players for a bench boost don't fit into my team afterwards. Especially defenders and the 7th and 8th attacker. I also dislike their GW17 fixtures. Southampton face Pool, Leeds face Spurs, West Ham defenders face Everton, Chelsea defensive double up faces City. It's just underwhelming all round, and my current team fares much better for GW17 and 18, allowing me to maximise funds in my XI for GW19 with a Free Hit

Could just be me seeing things this way, but that's fine

Your defense is different than mine, true, but I still think you have so many core pieces in place already for a nice bench boost.

Vestergaard, Coufal, James are all great for the DGW and you even already have Johnstone. It looks set up already imo with minimal fixes needed.

Maybe the defense in GW17 is a bit weak, but what does a strong one even look like? A lot of the core teams for defense have poor fixtures and if you're worried about that, just buy a Burnley defender in 16.

Also what do you mean they don't fit for GW20? It looks great. You keep the holy quartet, you switch to a 3-4-3 (good because Wilson and Watkins are going to become picks due to their stored DGWs) and you have 5 playing defenders.

You're more comfortable with selling Grealish than I am, and I think that's the core difference

For context, I'll flesh out my team. Here's where I stand for GW14:

            Martinez | Johnstone
Dias Reece Dier | Coufal Douglas
            Salah KDB Bruno Son Grealish
            DCL Bamford | Brewster

            The plan:
            GW15: Roll FT
            GW16: Johnstone + Douglas > Taylor/Lowton + 4.0 GK
            GW17: Reece > Bellerin
            GW18: Salah + Burnley D > Sterling + playing def up to 5.4. Gives me 10 starters + Brewster as the 11th
            GW19: Free Hit
            GW20: 5.4 D > Reece
            GW21: Bellerin > 3.8
            GW22: Sterling > Salah

One hit. No issue with funds

              • 5 Years
              3 years, 4 months ago

That's 11 BGW18 players (if we count Brewster), Free Hit to cherry-pick for the DGW, and my original squad back in three following FTs that follow the fixtures, all with one hit and no WC

That's what I feel works for my team

Yeah I suppose that's the difference. I'm comfortable losing Grealish but it's with good reason imo.

Grealish has wba CRY in the next two. I intend to keep him for those.

But after that... che mun TOT EVE. And the last one is in a DGW. Losing him for 4 weeks here in order to fund a big bench boost is worth it to me. He'll come back later, but for these 4 weeks, losing him I think will yield significant advantages with the only expense being about 0.4m in team value.

Ye. I think he will match Wilson, Watkins, Haller/Antonio, Wood & Adams.

He plays SHU, whu, ARS, WOL, City (FH), then benching, FUL

Except the Wolves game I think it looks quiet good tbh.

        That's harsh imo.
The funds helps elsewhere remember 🙂

My team for next week would be:
        Martínez (wba)
Robertson (cry) - Chilwell (WHU) - Lamptey (SHU)
Salah (cry) - KDB (sou) - Bruno (LEE) - Son (LEI) - Grealish (wba)
        Bamford (mun) - Welbeck (SHU)

        Smells green to me 😉

Coufal's double is looking much nicer than Taylor's

Given my other 4 refs already have doubles, should I avoid mitchell to taylor this week and just play KWP?

The more doubles the better! Taylor has decent fixtures in the run-up to boot.

If he's not ultimately required this week, then you don't have to make that move though.

Any thoughts on the best 4.8m or less DEF for the next 2 GW's?

I was thinking Lamptey before news of another knock...

2FT and 0.6itb. Need some inspiration. Would like to leave 0.2itb for a future transfer

    Martinez
    Lamptey / Chilwell / Taylor
    Salah / KDB / Fernandes / Son
    DCL / Bamford / Wilson

    Forster / Coufal / Burke / Mitchell
    A. Mitchell > Alioski
    B. Lamptey > Dier
    C. Something else

If you have Reece James I think you have to expect him to miss GW16 as an educated guess. 2 day turnaround which Lamps has already moaned about.

Then you should also expect Chilwell to get rested... Can't really predict this stuff.

I'm expecting Chelsea to be a problem in 16 and City to be a problem in 15.

I know Pep has said he wont rest KDB, but if he starts midweek vs Arsenal I can't see him playing twice in 48h at the weekend, especially when one of the games is significantly easier than the other.

    Martinez
    James Chilwell Lamptey
    Salah KDB Soucek Grealish
    Kane DCL Watkins

    Bench: James Kilman Justin

I wanted to remove James but not sure who for, any suggestions? Should I also take a hit?
