Scoutcast Episode 360 – Opportunities for FPL managers during Blank Gameweek 18

Joe is joined by Karam and new regular Scoutcast host Seb to try to make sense of the fixture change impacting on Gameweek 18.

Content creators are having a tough time of late. As soon as a video or podcast is painstakingly researched and presented, a major announcement changes everything. Lately, that has been due to COVID-19, with players forced to isolate and games postponed.

This time around the Scoutcast has escaped such changes by scheduling its latest episode last night (Monday, January 11), just hours after it emerged that Tottenham’s game with Aston Villa on Wednesday had been put back due to COVID-19 concerns.

Instead, Jose Mourinho’s troops will take on Fulham in a hastily rearranged game that falls far more kindly in the Gameweek for owners of Spurs stars Harry Kane (£11.0m) and Son Heung-min (£9.8m).

Understandably, this important fixture change tops the bill in a show that marks the debut for Seb as the Scoutcast’s new regular co-host with Joe.

Also joining this week is Karam, who has had his own experience with coronavirus recently. He reveals how he was been isolating after a positive test and thankfully is now fighting fit to once again tackle this most irregular of seasons.

Our trio reveal their Gameweek 18 plans and the players they are targeting. Joe has already pressed the button on his Free Hit chip but Karam only needs one or two transfers to field a credible side. Meanwhile, Seb is Free Hit-curious, and undecided on whether to deploy this chip.

Differentials during this limited set of fixtures are also taken in. Are Wolves and Everton players being unfairly neglected?

Elsewhere, Arsenal’s low owned gems are scrutinised and long-term fixtures are frisked in a show that aims to ensure Fantasy Premier League managers are well prepared for today’s Gameweek 18 deadline.

The Scoutcast will return on Thursday night, when Joe, Seb and their guest will dust off their notes once again and focus on the coming weekend’s Double Gameweek 19.

De Bruyne and Sterling or Bruno and Rashford? Folks thoughts?

Currently got De Bruyne with Bruno and Rashford double up. Saka and Son. Almost feel like I need a city triple up though.

Having same problem 2FT and want to bring in third City player (Cancelo and KdB owner) and then maybe Maguire (own Fernandes).

OR 1.4m so might take a punt on Sterling or Foden. Downgrading Salah. ManU attackers Rashford are more nailed than any of the City attackers but then City has better fixtures and will prob score more than United. Need to wait Pep presser to hear nothing

    Ok, so If I go

Holding (rested) instead of Tierney (played 120 minutes)
    Smith-Rowe instead of Saka

I can get the power front 6 (basically allows me to have rashford instead of Wilson).

    Lloris
    Cancelo, Dias, Holding
    KDB, Bruno, Son, Rashford, Smith-Rowe
    Kane, Lacazette

    Zero cash itb........

IMO I got the best 4 mids, best two strikers, best keeper and decent defenders.... Tierney surely will have minutes managed.... THOUGHTS?

Alternative is to have Tierney but drop Lloris for a 4.7 keeper. Just can't see Tierney playing beyond 60-70 mins

Both will be bench fodder. Strujik more likely to make an occasional appearance I reckon.

My main problem is who the is the 3rd city option after KDB and Cancelo:

    A) Stones (442)
    B) Dias (442)
    C) Foden (352)
    D) Gundo (352)
    E) Torres (352)
    F) Sterling (352)

Currently on B, wish Foden didn’t start the cup game so I could be more sure he would play...

    1. Goodricke
      • 8 Years

Gundo, won't break the bank and allows money to be spent elsewhere.

      1. The Tinkerman
        • 8 Years

Yeah he is up there, I do have a problem with him in that with returnees at City he is pretty likely to be back to playing a defensive midfield role. His returns came playing higher up when City were short of attackers.

    2. scubasmithy

A for me, I like D - but those 5 mids are already allocated and Saka probably a better pick.

For me I have Son, KDB, Bruno and Saka. Don’t fancy the United attacking double up vs. Burnley tbh (eg Rashford), not sure it’s the best fixture for their style of play.

Tinkerman, you are probably right. But Rashford is probably gonna be deployed on the left.... guess where Burnley have been awful..... It's a fun and heart based decision as I'm free hitting. Rashford I don't think has blanked away for some time.

      A or B

      1. The Tinkerman

Yeah, this is the “playing it safe” option. I feel like I’d want to be very sure of my bench to gamble in any of their midfielders.

But obviously with risk comes potential reward, if Foden/Gundo plays and bags, it’s a big rank boost.

Hi guys, would you -12 to get this team if you could (and save the FH) or play the FH:

    -12 Team:

    Pope
    Bellerin, Stones, Dias, Taylor
    KDB, Son, Fernandes, Saka, Stephens
    Kane

Transfers: Salah, Mane, Grealish, DCL --> KDB, Son, Saka, Kane)

I will still be able to play 11 DGW comfortably in GW19..

Those are template players you bringing in. Almost everyone and his dog will have them and 2 City defs.
So you have 3 + gk to make up -12 (-6 technically) just to break even imo

Might be template across FFS and Twitter community but this is still a small minority across 7m + managers playing the game..

And I feel WC/BB/FH from 26-29 can easily make up 10-20 points compared to if I Free Hit now.

    Morning everyone

Would you take a hit to bring in Saka for Martinelli?

Already on a -4 for bringing in KDB and Cancelo - all replies appreciated.

    Dias, Cancelo, Mitchell
    KDB Bruno Rash *Martinelli*
    Kane

(Martinez, Nyland) (Robbo, Ayling) (Soucek) (Adams Bamford)

Some thoughts on Leeds in DGW19
Some of us might be concerned the Leeds v Southampton might be postponed in DGW19, leaving them with one fixture v Brighton.
After tripling up on a Wildcard, this is far from ideal for me, but I think I will hold on and play Leeds assets in DGW19 and probably switch from a Bench Boost to Triple Captain (KDB).
For what it's worth; Leeds certain opponents in DGW19, Brighton, played away at Newport (350 miles round trip) on Saturday and the match needed extra time and pens.
Next up for Brighton is Man City away (516 miles round trip), which will take it's toll and probably be a demoralising loss, before they play a pacey attacking Leeds team away (512 miles round trip) less than 3 days later. Leeds will come up against a battered and knackered Brighton and Leeds will have had a 6 day rest since their (second team) lost in the FA Cup on Sunday.
I wouldn't worry about playing Leeds assets in DGW19, they could outscore players with doubles, plus Bamford, Raphina, Dallas and Ayling were all rested in the FA Cup. Finally they have Newcastle away in GW20, which isn't a bad fixture either.
I'd say on hold on to Leeds and don't take hits to remove them if Southampton is postponed, if it's not postponed, there's a chance they will haul.

Yup agreed. It's annoying but it's not changed my plans.

I will also prob bench boost. it will be bench of

Its the alternative to mine, I went with Rashford and Laca, but had to compromise (Saka to Smith-Rowe, Dias to Stones, Tierney to Holding). 352... tbh I'm torn between your direction and mine. I like both teams. I am a United fan though and I'm free hitting and want lacazette as a punt and 3 at the back for fun.

It is good to go... but you are totally right - its balanced vs all in up front....50/50 call really

Think it depends more on Shrewsbury Covid tests but Leeds seem up for moving the game.

Would you take a -8 to field:

    DDG
    Lowton Cancelo Dias
    Son Bruno KDB Rashford
    Brewster

and then be set for 14DGW + Son for GW19 with no more hits?

What is more likely? Saka return or Arsenal CS?

      Holding or Tierney?

Holding vs Saka for a hit is the consideration.

Good question. I swapped Saka to Tierney last night and I’m now doubling down on the Arsenal sheet in a 4-4-2.

Didn't Tierney play 120 minutes the other day? Chance he is getting rested?

Tierney is fit and Saturday to Thursday is a long rest, I think he starts.

Keep an eye on any news about Wilson’s fitness but otherwise looks solid.

    FH activated means my -4 ( TAA,Salah > Cancelo,KDB) is reversed.

So wk 19. Ill be taking hits to get Cancelo and KDB back in.

. Kane > Antonio is locked in to fund KDB.

    Stuck between these options.
    A) Dallas, Grealish >> Cancelo, KDB
    B) TAA, Raphinia >> Cancelo,KDB

Thinking about it long term B is the best option. I,ll be looking to move TAA on in 20 anyway and I have value tied up in Grealish.
So looks like TAA,Raphinia,Kane > Cancelo,KDB,Antonio for -8 it is barring any mid week injuries.

will give me 13 DGWers plus Dallas and Bamford v Brighton for the BB.

      Similar reversal here!
Going to cost .3 extra to get them back.
What happens if Antonio pulls up injured?

So be it. he came through 90 mins last night. my squad is strong enough to carry him on the bench until i get a chance to replace.
Think hes worth the risk with those fixtures next week .

      FH team:
      Leno
      Cancelo Stones Dier Tierney
      Bruno Son KDB Rashford
      Kane Wilson
      4.0 Yedlin ESR Brewster
      Any tweaks needed?

        That looks very good.
Could go round in circles trying to get the optimal team. Someone has to miss out.

Better option for DGW assuming it goes ahead:

    A) Soucek (BUR, WBA)
    B) Bamford (BHA, SOT)

Should I downgrade somewhere to get a better keeper in? 0itb

    Areola
Tierney cancelo stones ( mitchell 3.9 trash)
    Bruno kevin son saka rashford
    Kane lacazette ( brewster)

      Team value must be phenomenal.
I'd definitely consider Tierney, Areola to Holding + Lloris (Brewster to Davis for the needed 0.2)
