Scoutcast Episode 361 – More fixture changes add to Double Gameweek 19 challenges

Joe and Seb are joined by Karam to discuss the key issues affecting Fantasy Premier League managers in Double Gameweek 19.

Just days after mulling over Blank Gameweek 18’s issues, Joe, Seb and Karam are back again to take the next set of fixtures to task.

Southampton’s rearranged FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury has one of the biggest impacts. This means the Saints encounter with Leeds has been mothballed and both top flight sides have just a single fixture.

Where does this leave FPL managers looking to bench boost the likes of Patrick Bamford (£6.6m) and Che Adams (£6.0m)? Our trio take a look at the pros and cons of deploying this chip on single Gameweek assets.

Meanwhile the Everton and Villa game is off. So, there’s a blank for the Toffees. But Villa still have a double. They play Manchester City then Newcastle, as the Magpies game has now been shoehorned into Gameweek 19’s schedule.

Villa assets continue to be viable options, however, it remains to be seen how the Covid-19 infection that has swept through the club has affected its first team.

During the show Joe, Seb and Karam reveal their Gameweek 19 transfer plans and address the other important topics to help prepare FPL managers for this extended batch of games.

Is this a good week to use the Triple Captain chip? Which defenders should be brought in? And can West Ham star Michail Antonio (£6.2m)’s legs make it through the week?

As this latest episode was streamed during Thuesday night’s match between Arsenal and Crystal Palace, emotions were running high regarding the Scoutcast crew’s Gameweek 18 plans. They reveal how that set of limited fixtures impacted on their campaign.

There’s also fixtures to frisk, Seb attempts to describe a heat map and Joe has to eat humble pie regarding the Sheffield United defence.

    best striker option under 9.5?

    Already likely to have Antonio.

    Really struggling to see anyone obvious - Watkins? Werner? Martial?

      Please don't pick Werner, 10 games since his last goal and Chelsea aren't in good form. Always looks like he can haul but just avoid unless he actually picks up some form

    Lots of BB and TC chip chat which I understand but if the last few weeks have taught us anything, it's surely not to trust the fixtures right now?! Obviously risk reward scenario but I think it might be wiser using the chips later in the season. Just my 2 pence!

      There aren't that many DGW's in a season, maybe 1 other semi-decent one after DGW26. I don't see the covid situation improving much until DGW26 tbh so might as well attack DGW19 and 26.

        Normally yes, but this isn't a normal season, there will be at least 4 more double gameweeks after GW19.

        Yeah like I say that's fair enough and it's risk reward. I'm naturally pessimistic so I'm hedging my bets for later gws

        Exactly, I still have WC, BB and TC. There will be plenty (hopefully more reliable) opportunities later down the line

      The fixtures will remain equally random for the rest of the season. It all depends on your situation. I for example used my WC last week so I think I might use my BB now even though my team isn't necessarily great for it thanks to the lost Soton - Leeds. The chances are that for a coming DGW I'd have to take hits to tweak my team and - as witnessed now already - there's going to be a danger that those DGWs will be changed as well.

      Random is random.

    Guys just one piece of advice needed.

    Should I do
    A) Balbuena to Coufal for Free
    Or
    B) Balbuena & Adams to Brewster & Dias for a hit?

    Already have Stones but not sure if he will play 2 games and think double City makes sense for upcoming games?

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)

      A, wouldn't be getting Brewster in especially not for a hit and Coufal's fixtures are good

    Have been seriously considering going without KDB... Then I saw the captain matrix on black box.
    Long story short, not having him over the next few weeks will be terrifying at best, and season-ruining at worst

                  Is it the same excuse for your assurances that Foden and Cancelo would be benched, and Sterling and Jesus would play up front (have they played two up front in the last two seasons!?)

        Undecided on moves, but Son plus a hit is only route to KDB.
        I'd go Foden I think. If Antonio had been playing and on form it would be different, but FH this week is a great chance to catch Foden at his best (in terms of minutes and points)

    The Pros of Free Hitting in 19.
    If we don't FH in 19, is there going to be a better time to do it?

    I understand there will be a big blank 29 but the feedback we can get from 18 and over the years is that the smallest the GW are, the narrowest are the gap between Free Hitter and non Free-Hitters. I outscored Az without any FH this GW and Mark only got an edge of 3 points this GW.

    So if there's a big GW29 blank with only 3 or 4 fixtures, and if those 3 or 4 fixtures tend to end up like the ARS-cry game from yesterday, the gaps between free-hitters and non free hitters won't be big.

    Also, there is a notion of "surprise" that we have to take into consideration as mini-leagues players. If GW29 is a big blank, well it will be pretty simple for non-Free hitters to -4 or -8 to "block" the moves of the free hitters because there will only be 3 or 4 major names to be must-have for that big blank GW. I mean, GW29 free-hitters will be a bit face-up wherheas you can play a very tricky FH team in 19 against your mini leagues competitors.

      The benefit of using it during a DGW could be great but with the way the BGW went, you're much better off holding for a time you really need it

      I do wonder how blank GW29 will be. I think the league will try to slot in any previously postponed games here.

      You can say this for literally every GW.

      Considering how things went leading up to the last 2GW with so many changes, I would say there is no point planning ahead another 5-10 gw as there is simply no certainty whatsoever as to what. who and when teams will play. I am more minded to have short term target approach and build a lead in my mini league and cross bridges when I get there. If I have a good lead I will be more open to taking hits.

      The narrower the gameweek it is, means having the essential players is crucial. No FH means death here.

        Not sure if I will prioritize building up A much stronger bench later in the season: no WC, only TC and BB left

      He’s unlikely to score negative in the City game, so why wouldn’t you want him to play both

        because he is on 4 ycs...if he gets one more yc then he'll be suspended for one match..so if he gets yc against city, he'll miss the newcastle game

    Worth a BB for this lot? would be 13 DGW + tierney & bamford
    DDG Areola
    Cancelo Stones Coufal Lowton Tierney
    KdB Bruno Rashford Soucek (Son --> Salah?)
    Wilson (Laca --> Antonio?) Bamford

    A) Son + Laca --> Salah + Antonio (-4)
    B) Son + Laca --> Salah + Watkins (-4)
    C) Laca + Tierney --> Vardy + Targett/4.6m def (-4)
    D) No (-4) hit. Bamford --> Antonio/Watkins?

    Laca + Son + Reguilon => Antonio + Salah + Coufal worth -8?

    Martinez
    Dias | Targett | Coufal*
    KDB | Sterling | Bruno | Salah* | Grealish
    Antonio* | Bamford
