Scoutcast Episode 361 – More fixture changes add to Double Gameweek 19 challenges

Joe and Seb are joined by Karam to discuss the key issues affecting Fantasy Premier League managers in Double Gameweek 19.

Just days after mulling over Blank Gameweek 18’s issues, Joe, Seb and Karam are back again to take the next set of fixtures to task.

Southampton’s rearranged FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury has one of the biggest impacts. This means the Saints encounter with Leeds has been mothballed and both top flight sides have just a single fixture.

Where does this leave FPL managers looking to bench boost the likes of Patrick Bamford (£6.6m) and Che Adams (£6.0m)? Our trio take a look at the pros and cons of deploying this chip on single Gameweek assets.

Meanwhile the Everton and Villa game is off. So, there’s a blank for the Toffees. But Villa still have a double. They play Manchester City then Newcastle, as the Magpies game has now been shoehorned into Gameweek 19’s schedule.

Villa assets continue to be viable options, however, it remains to be seen how the Covid-19 infection that has swept through the club has affected its first team.

During the show Joe, Seb and Karam reveal their Gameweek 19 transfer plans and address the other important topics to help prepare FPL managers for this extended batch of games.

Is this a good week to use the Triple Captain chip? Which defenders should be brought in? And can West Ham star Michail Antonio (£6.2m)’s legs make it through the week?

As this latest episode was streamed during Thuesday night’s match between Arsenal and Crystal Palace, emotions were running high regarding the Scoutcast crew’s Gameweek 18 plans. They reveal how that set of limited fixtures impacted on their campaign.

There’s also fixtures to frisk, Seb attempts to describe a heat map and Joe has to eat humble pie regarding the Sheffield United defence.

    Martinez
    Stones, Reguilon, Justin
    (c) KDB, Son, Salah, Bruno, ESR
    Kane, Bamford

    Steer, Mitchell, Strujik, Brewster

    1FT, 0.0itb

I know they have good SGW fixtures but might do:
    A. Reguilon > Cress
    B. Bamford > Antonio
    C. Both (-4)
    D.Neither and Save

    Bench

    A) Grealish
    B) Bamford

As someone mentioned above we might not even be told at the Presser who has/had Covid so I'm concerned if Grealish will play or what kind of team he'll be playing in if he does. I also don't expect much from the City game so it's closer to 1 good fixture vs 1 good fixture but no uncertainty with Bam Bam.

    Am I overthinking it?

It’s a likely 1 goal from Bamford vs a potential mega haul from Grealish so I think the risk is worthwhile. You’re also likely to gain on the hardcore crowd who may drop him or bench him if he plays.

I think you're right, Grealish is the one who is more likely to give a rank boost (if he returns). Going to need a big sofa for that Leeds game though.

      Cheers all.

    McCarthy Areola

    Robertson Coufal Balbuena Lowton Dallas

    Rafinha Rashford Bruno Soucek Salah

    Adams Bamford Kane

Kane and Rafinha to Vardy and Foden for -4? Think I'll have to go without KDB as would make a mess of my team bringing him in. 0ITB and move for exact cash

            Yeah, that is correct.

It has been discussed in the past on these pages, taking penalty looks like high intensity activity and can lead to an injury so you have to be sharp in order to do it, or risk a injury. It was a won game, already, I am sure he will take the next one and he has so much SoT they have to go in.

Also when is the better alternative for TC?

    https://www.hampshirelive.news/sport/football/football-news/leeds-united-southampton-shrewsbury-town-4890041

So The rules for Premier league players with C19 is different to EFL players. Premier league players have to test negative (if they have previously tested positive) to be able to play again. EFL players are not required to test negative due to "false positive" results possibility, they simply have to complete isolation, and then they can rejoin their squad without a second test. Any further cases will be discovered at the next round of testing.

What this may mean, is that if Shrewsbury have any more positive results, then the Leeds v Southampton match may be back on!

Why are they not all playing by the same rules?

    1. claretparrot
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 2 months ago

I get Ralph's angle but this is all a bit misleading.

The rules are different because, until recently, EFL clubs weren't doing regular testing. So, they had to play it like the rest of the country (including most healthcare workers, by the way) and isolate for 10 days.

EPL clubs actually have an advantage from that set up because, if a player provides a negative test before their isolation is up, they can return to training and games.

The chances of being infectious >10 days after first displaying symptoms are minimal. If you've had an outbreak, there's a greater risk that one of your players has got it and isn't displaying symptoms yet.

LEE vs SOU being postponed has ruined my BB, Used FH in GW18.

    Johnstone (McCarthy)
Justin - Robbo - Coufal (Balbuena - Dallas)
Bruno - Salah - Son - Soucek (Raphinha)
    Kane - Bamford - Adams

    Which strategy looks best
    A) Kane and Balbuena to Vardy and Stones (-4). No Bench Boost. Son and Bamford SGW.
    B) Kane, Son, Balbuena to Antonio, KDB, Stones (-8). No Bench Boost. Bamford SGW
    C) Kane, Son, Balbuena to Antonio, KDB, Stones (-8). Bench Boost
    D) McCarthy, Balbuena, Son, Kane, Adams to Martinez, Stones, KDB, Antonio, Watkins (-16). Bench Boost

I'm in almost the exact same spot as you. I think A) as that's what I'm also looking at for a -4. I don't want to loose Kane & Son so am going to have to accept either no KDB this week or take a -12 for a KDB inclusive solution.

DGW tip: 2 games does not necessarily a good choice make.

If you didn’t have faith in them for 1 game why does 2 make a difference.

Furthermore, there are some tasty single fixture teams this GW that are being overlooked.

    Big question.

With this team, is it better to triple captain or bench boost?

    Martinez
    Chilwell Robertson Stones
    KDB(c) Salah(a) Foden Soucek
    Bamford Antonio Kane

Subs: McCarthy(gk), El Ghazi, Lowton, Bednarek

    Thanks.

  27. Arfaish

A -4 gives me 8 DGW players with Son, Kane and Leno being SGW players:

    Leno
    Cancelo, Stone, AWB, Justin (Mitchell)
    KDB, Bruno, Son, Ziyech, (Romeu)
    Antonio, Kane (Bamford)

Would you go with the above or play free hit and get the likes of Salah/Mane, Fabianski, Chilwell and have 11 DGW players?

Hi mate. In your shoes I wouldn't BB as, with all the uncertainty, I think the only reason to do it is if your team is already set for it (even if that doesn't mean a bench full of DGWers). In my case I'm leaning towards doing it with McCarthy and triple Leeds so I can play the rest of the season without one GW disrupting things (WC timing, extra hits etc.).

TC KDB or Salah could easily pay off, and if you're still going to have BB to use on the future big DGW then maybe this will be the best time for TC. With the fixtures I'd go KDB, of the two.

Appreciate it thanks, I think you’ve nailed it with the uncertainty.
Could be a real bummer to have games postponed in a BB week.

I actually think I don’t want to lose Son (even for this GW), so A by default.

        Good luck this week!

This, only 2 double gameweekers (even if Taylor is fit it’s 2 very tough fixtures).
The other SGW are also week and far from nailed

thanks both. Thought Long might be in with a shout with Ings being out but you're probably right
