How Arteta has revitalised Arsenal’s attack and what it means for FPL managers

Mikel Arteta’s recent changes to his Arsenal team appear to have been getting the best out of his attacking options.

Even though the Gunners’ upcoming fixtures are not the most appealing, Fantasy Premier League managers would do well to keep an eye on north London.

Accordingly, we have analysed the fortunes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.3m), Emile Smith Rowe (£4.5m), Bukayo Saka (£5.3m) and Alexandre Lacazette (£8.3m) after fourth win in five Premier League games.

Thoughts on this team? My bench seems so strong, especially given Leeds have Newcastle.

    Martinez
    Robbo Stones Coufal Targett
    Bruno Salah Son
    Antonio Bamford Vardy
    (Johnstone Raphinha Alioski Soucek)

This game is so much about luck.

I have put little to no thought into this GW having not watched any footy for a fortnight before tonight as I'd had enough after the Xmas period. Maddison was brought in for -4 while lying in the bath five mins before the deadline - I've not seen him kick a ball this season so had no idea if he was playing well - so there was precisely 0% "skill" in that. I only got Stones because I couldn't stretch to Cancelo, etc.

Yes luck is a factor but it balances out over a season

Maybe, but what is the skill we keep hearing about?

The only thing I am convinced about that players with a good record have is that they don't do anything stupid very often (e.g. early moves, loads of hits, stilly captains), they hit all the deadlines and they maximise their chips. Outside of that where they finish is almost all luck.

Its just being consistently sensible, knowing the trends and then hoping for some luck.

Look at some people record and they consistently get top 5k. Look at others and they constantly get top 100k. Both are sensible but skill keeps the 1st guy ahead

            What is the skill though?

Commitment, knowledge, having the time etc. None of those are skill.

It is possible out of millions of players for the same people to finish high and get lucky over a few seasons. With that many players surely thats possible. Skill in fpl isn't a thing. Keeping on top of it is

Look at the top 10 in the OR tonight. I’m blown away by how many of them have not just 1, but 3-4 of the really big scoring players this week. Stones, Cresswell, coufal, Barnes, Antonio, etc. I have 2 and I’m pleased. These guys are smashing it.

Out of the Top 5 OR guys tonight only one has anything resembling a decent history, even then it was just one season. The others have been in the hundreds of thousands+
Is this season an anomaly? Or is it just when the stars align for you you think it's skill?

It is luck dependent but there's a reason why the top FPL players do well season after season. You don't realise how important luck is until it goes against you imo

What do you think that reason is, though?

One thing I'd love to know is how many people really take this game seriously enough to hit every deadline and maximise chips like most on here do. I bet its under 100,000 people that do that.

        1. JONALDINHO
          • 6 Years

I got top 2.5k last year while missing multiple deadlines and not playing chips properly. I would like to think that involved a good amount of skill

GW20 team is basically ready to go... but the only coin flip is whether to start Wilson or Bamford. Both have been poor recently. Barring that, I could presume Leeds won't score and play Lewis instead, or presume Newcastle won't score and play Alioski.

Wilson will be leaving for GW21, someone with more ooomph!

Well I was worried I would regret transferring in Antonio for this gameweek, but the real disappointment turned out to be Dallas > Zouma which is absolutely terrible considering Dallas' 2 pointer and the Chelsea double GW, could have gotten at least the 1 clean sheet v Fulham.

So now the question is, what to do with Zouma? Also have Podence injured on my bench so I'll have to sort one out for free, if not both and take a hit.

I'm still having a good week despite Zouma, but didn't expect to have this headache added to the equation moving into GW20 as he was a player I expected to hold on to for a time.

Havent had one Chelsea since GW1, but agree.

But Wolves are lacking in attack and Burnley aswell...
Got burned by double up on Cress and Coufal this week.

      1. Coys96

That's just bs. He could've easily got 14 points and only played 37 mins over the course of 2 games. The fact that he was benched 2 games in a row was bad enough. And it definitely is the time to punt. Pereira, Maddison, Barnes, Antonio ... they were all punts.

          • Fantasy Football Scout Member
          • 11 Years

Maddison was a slight punt. Antonio not anywhere near a punt. Werner has been awful for so long I can’t remember.

The fact that he played only 37 minutes is enough proof that he was a punt. Chelsea and him weren't in great form. Chelsea's front 3 was continuously chopping and changing. So, there was always risk of rotation.

I do agree that depending on your rank, it could've been a time to punt. Some punts like Pereira and Maddison worked out really well. Even those who went with double Leicester defense have been rewarded.

something has defo happened behind the scenes, top top players have gone backwards and ones that should kick on haven't.. wonder if lampard has caused a divide or rift amongst his players.. comes across very very arrogant.

          • 6 Years

I think there are too many players to build a stable side. You can rotate eventually, but not in the building stage.

            • 12 Years
            3 years, 2 months ago

the problem, I believe, is that lamps doesn't know his best 11 but also doesn't have enough experience to know what that best 11 is.. he chops and changes too many players and different systems in too such a short space of time. tweak one or two players here and there but you need to keep consistency with your starting 11 and not make 5 changes one game and then 4 another and setup 433 then 4231 etc..

I agree. They overbought the stars. Great clubs appoint great coaches to BUILD a team. Not raid the Bundesliga hoping it all falls together and they steam roll to a title. Needs to be earned.

We both have a non-captained Salah & Fernandes on top of the players mentioned, but just dropped them out for simplicity.

Although, they did play BB (only Saka did anything) so the Stones captaincy was certainly inflating things.
