Back-to-back starts for Lingard as West Ham visit Fulham

Jesse Lingard (£6.0m) has earned a second successive start in a West Ham shirt for a Gameweek 23 trip to Fulham.

The Manchester United loanee netted a brace on his debut for the Hammers and will be hoping for more good fortunes at Craven Cottage.

As he did against Aston Villa, Lingard lines up as a number 10 in David Moyes’ 4-2-3-1 formation, flanked by Saïd Benrahma (£6.0m) and Jarrod Bowen (£6.1m), who comes back into the side at the expense of Ryan Fredericks (£4.2m).

That attacking-midfield trio supports centre-forward Michail Antonio (£6.7m) who comes into Gameweek 23 as a bona fide captain option.

After coming third in this week’s Fantasy Football Scout poll, the West Ham forward has been handed the armband by 20.6% of the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers this weekend.

Bowen’s return is the only change Moyes makes on Saturday afternoon, keeping faith in the defensive midfield pairing of Tomas Soucek (£5.4m) and Declan Rice (£4.7m) in front of Aaron Cresswell (£5.7m), Angelo Ogbonna (£5.0m), Craig Dawson (£4.5m) and Vladimir Coufal (£4.7m).

There will be plenty of attention on the left and right full-backs considering their recent creative output.

Cresswell might have the advantage tonight considering six of his eight assists this season have come in on the road, while no West Ham defender has created as many chances as him over the last four matches.

Having conceded twice in each of their last two league matches, after an encouraging run of defensive form, Fulham come into Gameweek 23 with a rare change at the back.

Ola Aina (£4.5m) drops out of the back-three for the first time this season, replaced there by right-back Kenny Tete (£4.3m).

Key central midfielder André-Franck Zambo Aguissa (£4.5m) finds himself among the substitutes too, with Mario Lemina (£4.5m) and Harrison Reed (£4.4m) handed the starting berths today.

Aleksandar Mitrović (£5.5m) is also on the bench, with Ivan Cavaleiro (£ leading the line in front of Ademola Lookman (£5.0m) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (£5.9m).

Gameweek 23 Starting Line-ups

Fulham XI (3-4-2-1): Areola; Adarabioyo, Andersen, Tete; A Robinson, Lemina, Reed, De Cordova-Reid; Lookman, Loftus-Cheek; Cavaleiro.

West Ham United XI (4-2-3-1): Fabianski; Cresswell, Ogbonna, Dawson, Coufal; Rice, Soucek; Benrahma, Lingard, Bowen; Antonio.

Anyone think the PL should mic referees up so we can at least see the thought process during VAR stoppages? They did it for an A-League game and it was really insightful to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR9wwqjbO1I&t=172s

Richard Keyes has always argued that we should be able to hear the VAR conversations.

They can do it in rugby because the players speak respectfully, and never swear, if the pl refs were mic'd up, tele couldn't air it! All you'll have is the players swearing and blinding at him!!

True! Rugby way ahead on this matter. I think they have a rule where only the captain can speak with the ref too (?), which I think should be introduced to the PL too...

Tbh, Rugby players don't swear because they don't have to put up with someone as useless as an English referee every week.

you dont have to keep the mic on the whole time it can be muted on the feed until they have a VAR decision, it would be really helpful and it would make it clearer why they make so many mistakes.

The other thing is they were not supposed to watch these in slo-mo because that changes the way the contact is viewed.

But so many issues with it, hearing them would at least be a start

Would be a decent addition but the thought process is obvious most of the time

Can people please put their anger at the man in Var room? He gives Dean the notion, he should not have give it in the first place. Yes bad decision from Dean but he is put in that situation from a guy Who sits and Just watch the fane while Dean have run for 90 minutes, not an apology for Dean but making a decision sitting in front of a tele is quite different tgsn after 90 minutes of refereeing.

Problem in the first place is Lee mason whom i were told is the Var judge. If you dont undersrand the logic in how the process went then please refrain from stupid comments and read how var function. Im not saying Dean makes a wrong call, he clearly does, im saying that he does so on a premise given by the var referee. He is given a judgement call that is not a violent conduct at all, the V A R should have not made him go to the screen at all.

Your logic is flawed. If their sanity can't last for 90 minutes then are they really competent enough to jurisdicate at this level ?

Apparently he sent him to the screen for having a clenched fist. So Mike Dean could have just seen in 5 seconds there wasn’t. And not sent him off.

He is given a judgement call on false premise, its not a violent conduct at all but If you dont think that a 90 minutes running and refereeing does not affect human beeings when they make judgement, im not sure which world you live in?

I live in a world where refs are paid to referee for 90 minutes. If he’s not up to it because of all the “90 mins of running” he does, then he should give it up.

Ok. Then you dont know how it is when you have run for 90 minutes and your asked to make a call which are based on false premises. Good luck to you and Merry Christmas

If he isn’t up to making decisions in the 90th minute then he isn’t fit to referee.

Good luck making it as a referee. I’ll get you a whistle for Christmas.

That was probably the worst moment I’ve ever seen in a football match.

How is Mike Dean a referee? And the fourth official mentioning fists. Bloody hell.

        And VAR

And it takes 6 reviews to become something out of context as a big incident...

Mike Dean saw the incident. VAR sent him to the screen saying they think it’s a clenched fist. Bizarre.

English referees are protected too much. For every decision overturned by the FA, referee should have to pay a fine just for being horrible.

When players get out of form, they are dropped. When managers don't get the results, they get sacked. Why should referees get special privileges ? Horrible decisions week after week but no answerability. The only job in the world where you can screw up everyday yet have to explain nothing to anybody.

On VAR, older referees will not be able to change their mind.

25 years of training that the refs decision is final and correct.

Or will toe the VAR line, so will give it if suggested up.

      It's gone way too far....

      As we all know.
