Scout Picks

Double Gameweek 27 Scout Picks built on Man City and Spurs triple-ups

Manchester City and Spurs form the spine of our Double Gameweek 27 Scout Picks line-up.

Following David, Neale, Tom and Andy‘s Scout Squad submissions, we have chosen our final XI of best players for the latest Double Gameweek.

We line-up in a classic 3-4-3 formation which comes in at £81.3m, £1.7m under our budget of £83.0m.

GOALKEEPER

Ederson (£6.1m) makes an appearance in the Scout Picks as the most nailed-on starter for Manchester City in their two Double Gameweek 27 fixtures. He looks good value for two clean sheets against a Manchester United team who have scored one goal in seven matches against the big six, and Southampton, who have scored the second-lowest amount of goals in the league over the last six games (four).

DEFENDERS

The improving Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m) takes up a spot in the Scout Picks XI, with the full-back showing signs of returning to last season’s form. Level with Marcos Alonso as the most persistent shooter among defenders in the last four games than the Liverpool right-back,. He also has created the second highest amount of chances of all defenders, so attacking returns are likely to follow.

The first of our Spurs triumvirate is Sergio Reguilon (£5.5m). Spurs face an impotent Crystal Palace side, with an expected goals (xG) rating of 1.76 over their last four games. With Reguilon carrying the most attacking threat of Spurs’ defenders, he gets the nod.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£4.6m) takes up the last spot in our backline. Sam Allardyce’s West Brom team are showing some signs of improvement, and are undefeated in their last three games with two clean sheets to show for it. They face a Newcastle side in utter disarray, and without three of their first choice attackers. Sam Allardyce also has a cracking record against one of his old sides, undefeated in his last six meetings with the Magpies.

MIDFIELDERS

Kevin De Bruyne‘s (£11.8m) return to action is too much for us to resist, especially with another Double Gameweek on offer. The Belgian has started each of the last three Premier League matches and appears to be slowly getting back to his imperious best. Across his last four matches, De Bruyne is top among Manchester City assets for key passes while only two of his colleagues have produced more shots than him during that time.

Son Heung-min (£9.5m) is our chosen Spurs midfielder for Double Gameweek 27. While Gareth Bale is the talk of the town, the South Korean is a much more assured route into Jose Mourinho’s attack considering the manager’s recent management of his minutes. Over the last four matches, no Spurs player has managed to play even half as many key passes as Son (13), whose total of five big chances created over the same period is the best in the Premier League.

Like Ederson, Ilkay Gundogan (£6.2m) finds his way into the Scout Picks XI as a nailed-on City starter likely to get attacking returns. Despite experiencing a brief dip in form, Gundogan has still got on the end of five big chances and had nine shots in the box in the last six Gameweeks and had a crucial rest agains Wolves on Tuesday evening.

The in-form Jesse Lingard (£6.0m) takes up the last midfield spot in the Scout Picks XI. The Manchester United loanee has hit the ground running for West Ham, only failing to return once in five games and bringing in two double-digit hauls during that time. Over their last four matches, only one Premier League player has managed more shots on target than Lingard.

FORWARDS

With other premium options around him crumbling, Harry Kane (£11.1m) still offers a reliable supply of points. No striker has had more attempts on goal than Kane in the last six Gameweeks, with the Spurs striker playing less of a creative role in recent outings. He also loves a goal against Palace, scoring in both of his last two games against the Eagles.

Ollie Watkins (£6.6m) retains his place in the Scout Picks XI for Villa’s game against Wolves. Patrick Bamford and Gabriel Jesus are the only forwards with more shots on goal in the last six Gameweeks than the former Brentford front-man. Watkins also faces a Wolves side who conceded four goals against City in their last game.

Our final Scout Pick is Michail Antonio (£6.5m) ahead of what looks to be a great fixture for the Hammers frontman. Antonio has been a key part in West Ham defying expectations this season, delivering some big hauls along the way. And he is showing no signs of slowing down, getting on the end of the second-most big chances of all forwards, as well as having the second highest amount of attempts on goal and shots in the box in the last six matches. The Hammers also face a leaky Leeds defence who have conceded the second-highest number of goals this season (44).

Substitutes

  • Fraser Forster (£4.0m)
  • Jannik Vestergaard (£4.7m)
  • Antonio Rüdiger (£4.6m)
  • Pedro Neto (£5.7m)

THE CAPTAIN

Who are the best captain options for FPL Gameweek 36+?

We choose the Scout Picks captain using a four-way vote between our Scout Squad pundits.

Because we use Fantasy Football Scout data so heavily in this process, the skipper we choose each Gameweek is known only to those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription and revealed to the public only when the deadline has passed.

Here’s how we voted for Double Gameweek 27:

THE COMMUNITY CHAMPION

Each week, one of the Fantasy Football Scout community takes on the Scout Picks by pitting their chosen XI against ours.

The Community Member who beats our team by the largest margin will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Moderators and Contributors League for the following season.

Boris Bodega takes on the Scout Picks in Double Gameweek 27 going with a 3-5-2 line-up of Ederson; Dias, Tierney, Coufal; Salah (vc), Aubameyang (c), Son, Jota, Soucek; Jesus, Antonio.

AA33 is the current leader, defeating the Scout Picks by a 53-point margin in Gameweek 2.

      Looks good!

The captaincy call has me so torn. On one hand, KDB is such a good differential option given that Gundo probably won’t be over 100%EO. The other hand is that Gundo just got rested and should logically start both, and second guessing Pep if he will start KDB 4 times in 2 weeks.

I’m on KDB rn and might switch to Gundo before bed

Pretty sure he’ll play in the United game, it’s the Southampton that’s tough to call. Maybe he’ll be rested in the champs league?

I think I might end up on Gundo after all

KdB captain. I can see him starting both games. Minutes might be managed vs Soton. But I expect him to play 150+ minutes over the games. The CL tie is practically over. He can get rested there before the cup QF.

The second one is a tough one. Bruno seems sensible based on fixtures. But he can easily punish you. I'd go Diagne bench

The level of group think / herd mentality in this site is quite staggering. Not a single team with Ings who has a DGW. I mean literally not one. Well done on sticking together!!

Just hold and play. The same guys dismissing it as a single gameweek are probably holding the prolific Watkins for 10 weeks because he has that extra fixture in GW29 to wreak havoc in..lol.

He has scored twice as many goals since Christmas than Ings LOL

    4. WE GO FOR IT
      • 8 Years
      3 years, 23 days ago

His extra fixture is against City. People who have him are playing him. But with Soton's double essentially meaning SHU + 2 points and them blanking in GW29. There is no rush to get him in. His form isn't great as well. 2 goals in the last 9 games. Soton are in terrible form as well. Bottom of the form table with 1 point in the last 6 games. 4 goals scored and 19 conceded.

You can call it herd mentality or whatever. But give me one good reason why anyone would buy him for mid/long term apart from him having a DGW. Just having 2 games foesn't mean one will score more points, especially when one of themis against the best defense in the league.

Why would you be upset that people aren’t going for a player that you think will score well? If he scores well you can come on here, gloat and rise up the rankings...it’s almost like this is a post trying to convince people to go for him and maybe you don’t even have him 😉

Either that or you’re his Dad

    8. Hotdogs for Tea

The second fixture is against the a very tight City defence, quite a few of Southampton are injured, Ings is 8.4 and over the next 3 game weeks has the same number of fixtures as Antonio, Watkins & Kane etc and there is still a chance of a Villa v Everton double in 28 ... the only way for most to get him is likely a -4, then potentially -4 to get rid for a player in 29

Realising the above is not group think, it’s just think 😉

Bruno, 100%. Not a fan of the other 2 either this week, but Bruno against City is just awful. United are generally dull and lifeless against the top six, I'm betting it ends 0-0 or 1-0 to City.

    Aubameyang Sterling Son Raphinha Bowen

    Areola Bamford Dallas Tete

I'm fully backing West Ham to do a job on Leeds, hence why I'm benching Bamford and Dallas. Also personally convinced Cancelo plays both games, hence why Im captaining him.

Even in one game I rate Cancelo's chances. The positions he take not only gives him a chance of an attacking return, but should translate into a good BPS score should he keep a clean sheet.

Anything worth a hit?. Need to prioritise GW29ers. Will WC in 30/31

      Martinez
      Cancelo, Dias, Lowton
      Salah, Son, Gundogan, Raphinha
      DCL, Kane, Bamford
      Johnstone | AWB, Barnes*, Mitchell*

      A) Barnes -> Lingard (-4)
      B) Lowton/Mitchell -> Dunk/ Cresswell/Reguillon (-4)
      C) DCL -> Antonio

Tempted to bench Barnes and wait for Grealish? Seems a good week to take a -4 to get a GW29 defender at least (given Lowton is max 2 pointer this week)?

Currently only going to have 7 for GW29 unless I take hits 🙁

      1. pingissimus
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 23 days ago

If you're thinking of a hit to get more than 7 in 29 then this is the week to do it for West Ham - prime fixture. Leave it to 29 and it'll more likely be a -2.

Not sure on Lowton 2 pointer being nailed on. Arsenal are an ordinary enough side right now. But would move him on for Reguilon or Cresswell if you stretch that far,

I got Lingard with an eye on GW20. Jota is a good shout. Tielemans worth considering, possibly No. 10 role in the absence of Maddison, Barnes and Perez but Brighton defence is fairly solid lately.

Considering the same. DCL has better fixtures but hasnt looked great. Antonio could be gold vs LEE and plays GW29.

Anyone not considering Kane, Son, or Antonio captain? Could easily outscore City players this week and we all know they will only play one game.

      Van dijk
      Gomes
      Matip
      Fabinho
      Henderson
      Davies
      Phillip's
      Kabak

So we are now on 8 injured people playing cb at liverpool this season. 7 of these are currently injured. Fabinho just got back and his rustiness led to the latest loss.

I am not sure that starting the season with 4 recognized cb would have changed anyhting. Liverpool not as culpable as some here suggest perhaps?

See amey well supported view point. Injuries are meaningless, we are just crap and would have been in this position regardless of personell. Apparently lovren would have changed everything and it's our fault for selling him

City would still walk it with their squad. The level of fatigue across the league is evident in every game, for a team like Liverpool who have one first XI and have almost no rotation this season was already going to be tough. Moving on, this year is marked with a *

A long last season too including World club championships and short preseason. A solid centre back partnership lets Arnold and Robertson get forward more and the forwards get more onfidence. Klopp and Allison losing their Mam and Dad recently puts it into perspective though.

I get the point you’re trying to make and while I agree having key players injured makes it difficult for players to mesh and have the same confidence as they did last year but there are a lot of issues:

        - Klopp should have been gradually rotating players in throughout the season last year, he knew they didn’t have money to spend and therefore he would only be able to look to his bench, so give those players some game time so that they get a feel for the team

        - The forward line hasn’t been injured and they have been out of sorts. You can’t blame all that on the cb’s, yes I know Henderson playing cb doesn’t help but the front 3 look leggy, discouraged and they have no confidence. They all have the skill to take a man on and change the game but neither of them seem to want it

        - lastly, back to jurgen, but teams have figured out how to play Liverpool and they continue to do the same thing week in week out! Cross the ball in from the goal line....well it’s obviously not working so they have to adapt and work on new things in training

        Just my .02

I do believe that last season as a comparator was a freak/outlier coming back into line - they were never going to continue outperforming their XG by 25% (85 goals from 69 XG) and outperforming their XGC by 15% (33 goals conceded from 38 XGC)

Nonetheless - it was incredibly reckless, bordering on irresponsible, from Kloop to go into a 60-game season with only VVD, & Gomez backed up by a hugely injury prone Matip (look at the injuries that guy has had in his prior 3 seasons - has always struggled for fitness)

The waiting until the last minute in January was similarly flawed, then panic buying a dogshit centreback from a team bottom of the bundesliga (plus a potentially promising but totally unproven championship centreback who has never played at this level)

Pretty sure they conceded 11 goals & a penalty in their first 4 games with VVD & Gomez and Fabinho at DM - thats rarely mentioned

Whereas Fabinio’s missing a whole 8 games has been done to death yet failing to win 10 of Fabinho’s 15 starts at centreback again never really seems to be mentioned

Honest Liverpool fans will put their hands up & say their form has been unacceptable since Atletico beat them home & away 13 months ago & it was really quite unprofessional they way they switched off/coasted on the run in last season

They’ve learned the hard way that it’s not always possible to just switch the machine back on again - and when you combine that with careless/complacent/irresponsible transfer window activity - they were playing with fire

The core of the team is also ageing fast & are clearly struggling/disenfranchised with trying yet another season of pressing themselves into dust - see also - Klopp’s final season at Dortmund
