Three-time top 200 finisher Lateriser: My ‘mock’ Free Hit draft for Blank Gameweek 29

The reigning Fantasy Premier League champion of India, Lateriser, isn’t playing his Free Hit chip in Blank Gameweek 29 – but this is who he’d select if he was.

A lot of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will probably be using the Free Hit this week. Keeping that in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to do a mock Free Hit draft so it helps some of you with your chip as well as transfers for the future.

At the time of writing, I am assuming that Son Heung-min (£9.6m) and Patrick Bamford (£6.7m) will not be available for the weekend’s games. We should know more about these players on Wednesday afternoon when both Marcelo Bielsa and Jose Mourinho face the media, so they will obviously re-enter the thinking if passed fit.

We talk about Blank Gameweek 29, debate macro Free Hit strategy and discuss what to do with Manchester City assets amid all of the rotation in this week’s episode of The FPL Wire, which you can see below.

I hope you find this article useful!

What is FPL Upside Chasing and how can I implement it in 2020/21?

I think he won't because if he does, he might be required to play for South Korea against Japan next week. I think Spurs will risk not playing him this weekend to avoid him getting tired and / or injured with the extra international match. But that's just a hunch

At what point, like Liverpool this season, does it become inappropriate to bill Lateriser as the 'reigning champion of India'? 😉

    G2G? £1.0m itb

    Martinez
    Dallas-Alioski-Targett
    Son-Bale-Lingard(vc)
    Watkins-Bamford*-Kane(c)
    Out: Forster-AWB-Stones-KDB-Gundogan

FT used to get Jesse in this week and I'm not tempted by a -4 but open to suggestions. I know Alioski is a rotation risk but I'm planning on him out for Rudiger next week and playing BB. I like all my unavailable player's fixtures next week so thinking of sticking to 8-10 players this week depending on knocks to Son and Bamford.

If Spurs had a DGW in 32 against Everton and Southampton but then the Carabao cup final a few days later, would you say there is a high chance of Kane/Son not playing both games?

I think it’s quite an important decision as if you have the FH and Wildcard left and Spurs have a possible DGW in 32, then saving the FH is maybe best because you can load up on Spurs for 32 and then FH in 33 when they don’t play.

Then in 34 have them back for their very, very nice fixture run till the end of the season.

Interesting point, I'd save FH for 33 whatever happens though.
Kane and Son always start everything except against real pushovers if available or Jose not trying to scam South Korean FA.

Correct, Spurs need to try and finish top 4 even if it's not very likely. They can't fully prioritise other competitions.

Tbf it's still pretty likely as if they win their game in hand, as they are 3 points off and have a very nice run in.

Following on from Sterling Archer's quoted line about Son from Mourinho above, who is the best Son replacement for those who want to sell him?

It looks to me like a tough GW to find strong options is becoming even tougher.

I guess basically the question is this: other than Aubameyang, who are the (2 or 3) best midfield options for BGW29?

Would only be considering Raphinha, Lingard or Bale for someone who doesn't have a wildcard to sort out the mess.
Maybe not even Bale given his injury record and Wales have three games over IB.

Trossard or Auba could be decent one gameweek punts for those wildcarding in 30/31.

Son could also be back for GW30 against Newcastle also with a chance of a DGW32 I wouldn't keeping him.

      To GW29 Free Hitters.

I see a lot of player-oriented FH drafts although I believe the Free Hit is one of these few occasions during the year where it is worth weighing up the criteria in a different way.
All year long, we tend to give extra importance to the players' form, their OOP aspect, their team form as a first tier in our decision making process. Then comes the run of fixtures. And finally, when it comes to armband: the opposition.

I believe a valuable approach of the Free Hit is to weight up the opposition criteria in the decision making process and start from there.

Before chosing the players, let's dig into the games profile and try to find out what could be the scenari of them. Which one could be a goal fest, which one will be a shut-down one.

Let's take the Brighton - Newcastle game. Isn't it a game that neither teams should lose before trying to win it? Does that not mean both teams will probably take very limited offensive risks? (Kinda normal for New..). Won't brighton be defending a 1-0 lead rather than trying to kill the game which makes Brighton MID and FW options a little less appealing?

Point is, focusing on each BGW29 game context before even considering player option might be a relevant approach this week.

Problem with this week is all games look fairly meh so as you have said, a deep dive into chances conceded from left or set-pieces scored/conceded needed.

Last time on this one for me.

Baffled by Andersen over Adarabioyo choice with set piece vulnerability taken into account. Unless I’m badly misreading the stats there’s only one logical choice there for set piece threat.

Not looked at the stats, but from eye test, Tosin is the target for most set-pieces and gets to them pretty often, but never looks like scoring at all, whereas Andersen looks more thretening with both head and foot when he gets a chance.

It's putting any weight at all on Andersen as a set piece threat that I just don't get. He's had 3 set piece chances all season. I rather suspect that's towards the bottom of the list of all CBs in the league. It'd feel very random if he popped up with one this week. Adara misses the target nearly all the time you're correct but he gets plenty of chances anyway.

Stats don't lie and I guess eye-test also misleading as Andersen is generally a much more impressive player than Tosin all round.
Does the 3 chances include FKs taken by him?

7 attempts from set plays: 3 headers

So he has that in his armoury - I didn't take that into account. Looks quite the player from the bits I've seen. Hard to match form from one team into another but he looks as if he'd be at home in loads of more highly regarded PL sides. Could be the Scott Parker effect I guess.

Should I hit the free hit button now?

      Team will look something like

      Sanchez
      Dunk Cresswell Tierny
      Aubameyang Raphinha Bale Son
      Maupay Kane Bamford

      Mielser Aina Lascelles Coufal

Jose already talking about fibbing to Korean FA so I'd imagine Sonny doesn't play

Marcelo Bielsa on Patrick Bamford: "We think that yes, he will play on Friday.

"He has a knock on his hip that is painful but we don't think it will make him miss the game."

It's a trap - he'll come in and play 55 minutes for a 1 pointer, and we owners will have kept him instead of getting Antonio who will haul against Arsenal

I cunningly foresaw this 2 weeks back and made the Bamford Antonio swap.

There is of course no chance of Antonio pulling up with a muscle strain any time soon. A

ntonio off around 55 and Bambam to make up for VAR misses and brace (goals not points)

      Martinez
      Cresswell / White
      Bale / Auba / Raphina / Lookman
      Kane / Antonio

      Good enough with a -4?

I was thinking of saving FH to later in the season and because I stupidly saved two FT but with the injuries as it is it's actually a real bonus since those who prepared for the GW with the likes of Son & Bamford are even more disadvantaged

I like laterisers draft although surely the Brighton double is Veltman & Dunk

Got to have Lingard in midfield also.

      Currenlty on

      ???
      Veltman Dunk Dallas Cresswell
      Lingard Bale Auba Raphina
      Kane Antonio

I’ve spent way too much time on a spreadsheet comparing options and I’m narrowly opting for FH29. Shame not to know about possible Spurs double in 32 but I think I can manage this easier than the horrible prospects for this injury and fixture ravaged gameweek. I like Laterisers options- pretty much where I am too.

Haha, no I’m afraid not. It’s a bit Heath Robinson and presumes Bale and Aubameyang get a hatful each

Bamford and Dallas look like easy moves with two FTs then.

Might leave it at that. Don't think a Brighton defender is worth a -4 surely....

You might be right but I haven't had Dallas all season and I just can't deal with him single handedly cancelling out any gains I make AGAIN.

Assuming Son is out and Bamford/ Grealish are fit, here is my draft FH squad

      Sanchez, Areola
      Tierney, Cresswell, Dallas, Reguilon, Targett
      Auba, Bale, Grealish, Lingard, Raphinha
      Kane, Bamford, Antonio

      Bench 4

      Thanks 🙂

Not sure on either Grealish playing 90 or Villa scoring against Spurs so him.

Bamford even tho he may play might not be at his best so him also

Targett & Areola - goals will be scored against them
