FFS Mini Leagues & Community Competitions Gameweek 28

Welcome to the Fantasy Football Scout mini-leagues and community competitions round-up after Gameweek 28, which for once was not a Double or Blank Gameweek but did feature some unwelcome rotation by Pep and others.

As well as the two main FFScout Leagues, we also report on the Head-to-Head Leagues, the FFS Cups, Last Man Standing, Pro Pundits, Mods & Cons, Scout Network and a selection of community mini-leagues.

FFSCOUT OPEN-TO-ALL LEAGUE

League code: 5u05vz
Eligibility: Open to all

Pandin Bruyne is still top of our Fantasy Football Scout mini-league, 16 points ahead of Nathan Jobling.

49,337 teams are currently participating in this mini-league, with at least two more waiting to be added at the next results update.

It is still the Best League in FPL based on the average scores of the top five managers in each league, and Pro Pundit Andy LTFPL’s youtube.com/letstalkfpl remains in second.

Our current top five are all in the top 49 overall.

Pandin has risen one place to fourth in the world and is now only 11 points behind the new world number one, Kazimierz Konieczka.

Pandin and world number three Ola Hovde (who had been number one from Gameweek 10 to Gameweek 27) each have a Wildcard still to play, while world number two John Chappell has his Bench Boost. Current leader Kazimierz, however, has already used all his chips.

FFSCOUT COMMUNITY MEMBERS LEAGUE

League code: Available on Members and Home pages when signed in.
Eligibility:Open to anyone with a registered FFS account – paid or free.

Nathan Jobling has regained the lead in our Fantasy Football Scout Community Members mini-league and is now up to ninth overall, 16 points ahead of last week’s leader Ulrik Varela Greve (aka FPL Viking).

The table below, courtesy of Mini-League Mate, shows the top 20 leaderboard.

(click on image above to enlarge)

Using Fusen’s FPL Statistico to examine Nathan and Ulrik’s season in a bit more detail reveals the surprising finding that just over 19 per cent of Nathan’s score comes from his armband selection.

In fact, Ulrik has nearly 100 captain points more than Nathan.

Such is Nathan’s underperformance with the armband, that considering base points only (no captain doubling/trebling) he has 27 points more than the current world number one, Kazimierz.

But in reality (if such a thing exists in Fantasy), he is 27 points behind Kazimierz.

HEAD-TO-HEAD LEAGUES

Aleksander Våge Nilsen (aka AleksanderVN) continues to reign supreme in League 1 and now has 60 points, three more than Ville Tuominen (aka Santigold) .

Jose Miguel De La Roca Argueta lost for only the third time this season in League 8 Division 42, but with 72 points out of a possible 81 he remains the highest-scoring manager in our head-to-head leagues.

The scores and points totals as they stand for the current Gameweek are updated every night on our main Head-to-Head page.

A fixtures table for the upcoming Gameweek will be published in The Complete Guide to Scout’s tips and advice ahead of the next deadline. However, if you can’t wait to find out who you are playing next, follow this link. Use your browser’s find in page function (Ctrl+F) to locate managers.

FFS CUPS

Gameweek 28 was the third round* of the FFS Open Cup (*results not updated yet).

Lokomotiv is the only former Open Cup Winner through to round four (draw not made yet), as fellow former Open Cup Winner Leon Harris was beaten 65-47 by Smelbow.

Other managers through to round four include The Fighting Cock (254th) and ZeleniMD (975th) from the top thousand, Pro Pundit Zophar, and RedLightning from Mods & Cons.

It was also the second round* of the FFS Members Cup (*results not updated yet).

Last season’s Members Cup Winner Pep Pig is through to round three (draw not made yet) after beating Fitzy 54-50, but the game of the round saw TedTalksFPL from the Scout Network knock out former Open Cup Winner Lokomotiv by 43 points to 42.

Other managers joining them in the next round include A.J. (263rd) from the top thousand; Pro Pundits Az and Zophar; Meltens and Rotations Alter Ego from Mods & Cons; and reigning Head-to-Head Champion Bouncebackability.

LAST MAN STANDING

The safety score for Gameweek 28 in TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition was 43, which saw another 72 managers removed.

In total there were 4,557 entries to this year’s competition and just 325 go through to Gameweek 298, when the elimination threshold will rise to 20%.

The highest score was Joseph Wyckoff’s 70. This is his sixth season, finishing 9,420th last year; he is currently 3,429th overall.

You are able to keep tabs on the action throughout the season via Ragabolly’s website Live FPL.

PROS AND CONS

Despite slipping to 957th overall, Andy LTFPL is still the highest ranked of our Pro Pundits, 42 points ahead of FFScout founder Mark Sutherns.

Zophar’s 57 was the best Pro Pundit score of the Gameweek.

Andy also remains at the summit of the FFS Mods & Cons mini-league but is now only 12 points ahead of Jack Penn (aka ZoumasBloomers).

Live FPL creator Mohamed Ragab (aka Ragabolly) has doubled his lead over Babis Kokkinis of FPL Greece again in the Fantasy Football Scout Network mini-league (which is for the Scout Network and includes six of our Pro Pundits) and is now four points ahead despite dropping out of the top ten thousand to 11,103rd overall.

‘TOP’ MINI-LEAGUES

A red arrow meant Phil Olorenshaw fell to 192nd overall, but he nonetheless still leads four of our ‘Top’ mini-leagues.

He is 12 points ahead of Ray Freeman in PDM’s Top 1k ANY season mini-league (league code: 2agvvx), 14 ahead of Jon Wilmore (aka Baines on Toast) in my Top 10k Any Season mini-league (league code: 8kcvzq), 22 ahead of Paul Strange (aka dilbert) in Chaballer’s Hall of Fame >Top 1k< mini-league (league code: mr8dyh) and 30 ahead of John Forshaw in my Multiple Top 10k Finishes mini-league (league code: 8t42p6).

Killingholme Clay continues to dominate the Top 100 Any Season mini-league (league code: xptbn4), 17 points ahead of Paul Mahoney, and has returned to the top ten thousand in 9,709th position.

Meanwhile, reigning FPL Champion Joshua Bull has regained the lead in Simon March’s FPL Champions League and moves three points ahead of 2017/18 Champion Yusuf Sheikh and four ahead of last week’s leader, 2009/10 Champion Jon Reeson (aka Westfield Irons).

There are now just 11 points between first and fifth in this small but incredibly closely-fought mini-league.

BEST OF THE REST

Charles Richter tops Greyhead’s The Next Great and The Good mini-league for a third successive Gameweek, eight points ahead of David Cousins, despite slipping to 2,325th overall.

Sng Junyang leads Skooldaze’s FPL Vets 2006 or before mini-league for a second Gameweek in a row, but a red arrow took him to 6,366th overall, 28 points ahead of Andy Short.

Stephen Carey is a new entry to my January to May League (league code h62bh1) and has come straight in at number one, four points ahead of last week’s leader John Forshaw.

Stephen was 415k overall after playing a late First Wildcard in Gameweek 16, but has subsequently risen to his current rank of 4,821st with four centuries during that period – 121 in Double Gameweek 19 (following a Free Hit in Gameweek 18); 112 in Double Gameweek 24 before playing his Second Wildcard in Gameweek 25; 104 in Double Gameweek 26 (when he Triple Captained Harry Kane); and 102 in Double Gameweek 27. He is yet to deploy his Bench Boost.

Stephen has been playing since at least 2006/07 and was 555th in our Live Hall of Fame when it was last updated after Gameweek 23, having finished 373rd in 2007/08 and had four more top 6,000 finishes since then.

And finally, The Last Ten (league code w4430n) will start scoring in Gameweek 29. Over 300 teams are already awaiting the start.

  1. Ideas for improving Mini-Leagues and Community Competitions articles.

We would welcome any ideas for improving our Mini-Leagues & Community Competitions articles.
Do you think that any of the sections should be expanded, reduced or otherwise changed, or are there any additional sections that you would like to see added?

It has been suggested that we ought to occasionally feature managers who aren’t high-profile or at the top of their leagues, since most people enjoy a bit of publicity and like to see their names mentioned.
For example, we could feature managers who have made maverick captain choices or unusual transfers in the latest Gameweek that have resulted in high scores and big green arrows.
Or managers who have perhaps been lucky or unlucky over a longer period, such as one who is third in his Division in H2H League 8 despite having an overall rank of over three million.
Do you like this idea, and if so would it be better to include them occasionally in existing sections of the articles, or in a regular new section at the end?

I'll probably try to run another community competition like the pundits playoff next season, once this lockdown madness is hopefully over.

Excellent. We've missed having something like that this season.

me too but it would have been near impossible to pull it off, and anyway I had too much to deal with elsewhere. I have a really good idea I need to chat with Greybeard about.

In our draft league we have an award (before lockdown used to be free beer from the rest) for the manager that gets the highest points that gw. Here the award can be publicity. You can also have the manager with the lowest points for a contrast :-p

It can also be a monthly award for the manager who topped that month or the top 3 managers.

          Thankyou for your suggestions.

We do award a prize (an Amazon voucher) to the manager of the month in our FFS Community Members League, but as far as I know the other leagues and competitions that we cover do not award monthly or weekly prizes.
We report on about 14 different mini-leagues as well as a number of other competitions, so mentioning the monthly top scores in all these mini-leagues would probably be too much I think and make the articles too long.

As for weekly top scores, we usually report these for Last Man Standing and Pro Pundits, but they are not easy to find for mini-leagues of over 200 teams.

Yes sure , thats a brilliant idea, I prefer to be on regular weekly basis.

Above that , how abut bringing back ( pundits competition ) like last year ?

Also , I would like to suggest to make a competition based on ( dual teams ) , I've already organized it with my friends for second year on a row , its fun indeed .

Thankyou Kira. We are thinking of asking readers to nominate a Manager of the Week in comments on our articles, and the best one might then be mentioned in the next 'The Complete Guide to Scout’s tips and advice' and/or in an FFS Community tweet.

It is true that the main articles are more prominent, but only until they fall off the current screen.
Also, most of the comments on community articles are actually relevant to the articles themselves and easier for the writers to pick up and respond to, whereas many of the comments on the main articles are not relevant to them (RMTs etc).

Hmm, I see your point. Might a solution be to ask posters commenting on any article (rather than a different topic) be to flag that article so it is marked for attention?

On the prominency - judging by the sheer number of comments on main vs community - I think there's orders of magnitude between audience sizes between main vs community articles, so I'd say it's worth bringing them in together personally (assuming community articles go through a suitable moderation)

Highlight managers on streaks and look at what caused it. Both rewards them and is interesting to the reader

The problem is detecting these streaks, unless they are reported to us. Perhaps there ought to be an equivalent to Rough with the Smooth, but for sequences of several Gameweeks instead of just for the latest Gameweek?

Nominate the manager of the month. People can nominate a manager they know and explain why they are nominating him/her in 1 sentence or 2. Then you pick the 3 that look more impressive...
I mean the other question is how much personal work you want to put into it. Cause most ideas here are great but from your replies i get you are not up for it cause they look a lot of work... maybe put some guidelines of what you can do instead of people just proposing random ideas?

The manager of the month prize goes to the manager who has scored the most points in the month in the FFS Community Members League.
I suppose we could also ask for further nominations, but they wouldn't get the prize, just some publicity.
As well as the winner of the aforementioned prize, we do already report some other streaks - the January to May League and The Last Ten leaders, and sometimes for the last few Gameweeks in the Community Members League.

But the question that no-one has so far responded to was whether readers liked the idea of giving some publicity to middle-ranking managers in the H2H Leagues, such as the manager who is third in his H2H Division despite having a rank of over three million (that was someone else's idea, not mine, but a number of FFS leaders seem to like it). It is apparently easier to extract such data for the H2H Leagues than for large mini-leagues.

Perhaps we could just ask for nominations for manager of the week or month, one of whom could then be featured in a new section at the end of each article - but they would be one Gameweek out of date compared with the rest of the article unless we set up a Hot Topic for these nominations before publishing each article, which we try to do as soon as possible after the end of a Gameweek.
