Three-time top 200 finisher Lateriser: My ‘mock’ Free Hit draft for Blank Gameweek 29

The reigning Fantasy Premier League champion of India, Lateriser, isn’t playing his Free Hit chip in Blank Gameweek 29 – but this is who he’d select if he was.

A lot of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will probably be using the Free Hit this week. Keeping that in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to do a mock Free Hit draft so it helps some of you with your chip as well as transfers for the future.

At the time of writing, I am assuming that Son Heung-min (£9.6m) and Patrick Bamford (£6.7m) will not be available for the weekend’s games. We should know more about these players on Wednesday afternoon when both Marcelo Bielsa and Jose Mourinho face the media, so they will obviously re-enter the thinking if passed fit.

We talk about Blank Gameweek 29, debate macro Free Hit strategy and discuss what to do with Manchester City assets amid all of the rotation in this week’s episode of The FPL Wire, which you can see below.

I hope you find this article useful!

What is FPL Upside Chasing and how can I implement it in 2020/21?

    Dallas Dias Stones Veltman Konsa
    Salah Son Gundo Bruno Raphinha
    Watkins Kane Bamford

    2 FT 0.3 ITB

My current midfield is Salah Gundo Bruno Son & Soucek.... Planning to add Lingard in this week! Who shd i be selling to add Lingard in??? Salah or Gundo??

While Son is injured now, he has a great fixture against Newcastle in week 30 so i prob wont be selling him! Tempted to sell Salah because hes off-form n i can oso use e funds to reinvest in other areas of my squad but not sure if its e right move! Will be WC in week 31 so i can oso add him back in n wont be losing much value either compared to Gundo...

Who to bring in and why ?

    1. Auba

    Or

    2. Bale

Auba, better fixtures for next 3 games, Only problem is rotation and if you are willing to risk it.

Bale, minutes managed and injury prone. Without Son Spurs lose a lot of creativity too.

Not sure either are guaranteed minutes but I'd go for Auba. Maybe send him an alarm clock though just to be sure.

Probably meaningless of course. Short sample size. But lack of entertainment illustrated anyway. Best part of a goal down every match and much higher cs potential.

Since DGW season really kicked in in GW26. 38 fixtures have provided

    31 clean sheets = 0.81 a match
    79 goals = 2.07 a match

Previous season average over 240 fixtures

    125 cs = 0.52 a match
    672 goals = 2.8 a match

Take Man City out of the equation and the goals drop further. They've scored 14 of the 79 goals in the last 3 weeks. Decently over 20% of them. Non Man City games

59 goals in 33 matches = decently under two a match

    * all stats correct to the nearest 100% error

Thanks, this bears out the comments that have been made about tired players and cagey matches. I wonder if there are also more goal chances falling to previously underplayed players (eg Bale, Jota, Iheanacho etc). It’ll also be interesting to see how teams start playing as the league sorts itself out. Good time to wc (mine went a while back).

        13 defenders goals

Actually the really startling stat is that games involving City and Spurs account for 32 goals of the 79 scored in the last 3 gameweeks- that's around 40% I guess

    Anything standing out here?
2 ft. 0.7m ITB. No chips remaining.
    Doing Cancelo-> Cresswell/Tierney with 1 ft I think.

GW 29 team, 8 atm but 2 injuries to worry about!
    Martinez (Steer).
    *Burn, Dallas, (Cancelo, Shaw, Stones).
    Raphinha, *Son, (Salah, Gundo, Bruno).
    Kane, Watkins, Bamford.
    2nd FT
Son -> Odegaard (fancy him to do well) or Lingard.
Burn -> Veltman. (May even be worth a hit if Burn is out) Will play in 29/33.

Have 2FTs, which 2 moves would you choose?
Or take a hit and make it 3 moves?

    1. Salah to Bale
    2. Salah to Auba
    3. Stones to Dunk
    4. DCL to Watkins

      1 & 2.

      Salah isn't contributing.
Stones is always a rotation risk in Pep's lineup.

Dunk is good for BGW29, but not sure beyond that.
Watkins doesn't seem as effective without Grealish.

If Pep's selection methods are a mystery, we all know Jose likes to lie: does this mean Son is fit to play the league game? He's certainly out of Europe no matter what.

Not guaranteed with Olympiacos on Thursday. But I would think he would start both games, after his slap on the wrist at the weekend.

    Martinez (Schmeichel)
    Dallas Veltman (Dias, Rudiger, Digne)
    Son Auba Raphina (Gundogan, Bruno)
    Watkins Bamford Kane (C)

I've got 10 players. - and son would make 11

Will be removing DCL, Salah and Mee for a -4, Kane is a no brainer for DCL, help me spend on the other two spots, 14.2m to spend. I will WC in GW31 so just need them for the next 2 fixtures

    No GK
    Dunk Strujik XXX
    XXX Raphina Son Lingard
    Watkins Kane Bamford

    (Ederson, Johnstone, Dias, KDB, Digne)

    Is Johnstone to Emi/Sanchez worth a -4?

Worth having Son in FH team and strong bench (in case he plays) or use the third Spurs slot for someone like Reguilon? Looking at having Bale and Kane at least.

    Pope
    Canelo, Stones, Dallas
    Mount, Salah, Gundo, Lingard, Bruno
    DCL, Kane

    (Subs: Forster, Bamford, Holding, Mitchell)

Pick one (FT) or two (-4)

    A) Holding > Cresswell
    B) Salah > Bale
    C) Salah > Auba
    D) Cancelo > Cresswell (making way for Salah > Mahrez/KDB next week)
    E) Holding > Konsa
    F) Bamford > Watkins
    G) Bamford > Antonio

Playing with Son and 10 other BGW players seems fine to me.

Not wasting a transfer on this one.

10 or 11 in this case probably makes little difference.

Might skip Bale n all since I have Kane

Messed up options with my last post...
    Simplified:
Do I go for a -4 this GW with
    A) Holding > Cresswell and Salah > Auba/Bale
    B) Holding > Konsa and Bamford > Antonio/Watkins
    C) Or stick with FT doing Cancelo > Cresswell, then do Salah > KDB/Mahrez next GW?

Built this team for BGW29+BB30. Do I save my FH or use it now as 3 Villa defense against Spurs & Son injury is concerning? I will WC31 so FH33 doesn't look as appealing as it looked few GWs ago.

    Martinez
    Targett, Konsa, Struijk
    Raphinha, Son*, (Another mid Auba/Bale/Lingard)
    Kane, Bamford*
