Rashford passed fit to start but Pope misses out on Manchester United v Burnley

There is little Europa League-led rotation for Manchester United this afternoon as they prepare to face Burnley at Old Trafford.

Kick-off is at 16:00 GMT.

Edinson Cavani (£7.9m) is among the substitutes but you’d be hard-pressed to argue that the Red Devils are anything other than at full strength going into their late-afternoon clash with the Clarets.

Mason Greenwood (£7.0m) is preferred to Cavani for the hosts in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s only change to his starting XI from the side that defeated Tottenham Hotspur in Gameweek 31.

That means that Marcus Rashford (£9.5m) is fit to start, with the United winger set to again play through the pain barrier as he continues to manage a niggling foot injury.

Solskjaer said of Rashford’s issue ahead of kick-off:

It has been [game by game].

Yesterday when I spoke to him he said ‘good’. So that’s the first time in a long, long while that he’s not mentioned it, so he should be no problem.

Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) also features, with the mass-captaincy of Spurs assets in Gameweek 32 meaning that his ‘effective ownership’ (EO) is, for once, under the 100% mark at most rank tiers for this clash.

Harry Maguire (£5.5m) keeps up his ever-present record and needs to avoid a booking in today’s game in order to swerve a two-game ban for yellow card accumulation.

Sean Dyche makes two changes to his Burnley side after the defeat by Newcastle United last weekend.

Charlie Taylor (£4.4m) and Jack Cork (£5.0m) are both recalled, with Erik Pieters (£4.3m) and Matej Vydra (£4.8m) benched.

Dwight McNeil (£5.7m) has recovered from the knock that rendered him a doubt for this encounter.

Goalkeeper Nick Pope (£5.5m) hasn’t passed a fitness test on a shoulder injury, so Bailey Peacock-Farrell (£4.0m) is between the posts again.

Paul Pogba (£7.6m) was the match-winner when these sides last met in Gameweek 18.

Dyche’s troops are on the longest current run without a clean sheet in the English top flight.

But the Clarets are unbeaten in their last four Premier League encounters at Old Trafford and won this fixture 2-0 last season.

Manchester United XI: Henderson, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, Fred, McTominay, Pogba, Fernandes, Rashford, Greenwood.

Burnley XI: Peacock-Farrell, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Gudmundsson, Cork, Westwood, Brownhill, McNeil, Wood.

I’m not from England so don’t know the situation, and sorry if this comes across as political. But why is there a set date for the return of fans to matches, and why was the date set so far back? Why not make it a play by year type decision. Surely fans and stadiums don’t need that long to prepare and it would be tough to forecast what the covid situation would look like at the date of the return?

Definitely seems that way doesn’t it.
It’s becoming quite the trend now isn’t it.
I was hoping that as football (and tactics) is so fluid and always changing, we might see Bruno coming to the fore. But it’s just not happening at all...
May have to sell him 🙁

It doesn’t work for Bruno when Pogba is playing higher up the pitch or as a wide player. If he played as one of the midfield two, it would work better going forward but hampers United defensively.

Yeah, but are they good enough? I would say Napoli, Sevilla etc have more of a case than them. They are hampered by playing in such a weak league with no money.

The added TV rights money from such a league would make them more competitive in attracting talent if they were to opt in.

I don't think any team in Europe would find it easy above in Glasgow with the fanatical supporters they have behind em.Also if Ajax are going in you would nearly have to bring along PSV,Feyenoord seen as they are big clubs in their own right.

Maybe if it does take off there could be tier 1 and 2 leagues that pillage all the top club teams of Europe from their domestic competitions?

The funny thing about this ‘Super League’ idea is that literally EVERY single person (fan) I’ve spoke to thinks it’s an awful idea and doesn’t support it...

So, who are they expecting to watch this farce? Where’s the big money coming from when most fans think it’s a brazen money grab by the top clubs and want no part of it? Can’t see many advertisers being that keen with this in mind!

I have been reading a bit more about this and it's all about the money, these greedy owners are protecting their investments so they never fail. There are always risks of not qualifying for the champions league and missing out on huge amounts of money.

If this "super" league was to actually happen then it would not be a worry ever again. The fear of failure motivates those to go stronger. Seeing minnows go against the big clubs at least in the leagues like England/spain/italy will not happen again. The lure of champions league is seeing the big teams face off against each other rarely, if we see it so commonly the lust is gone.

Again, it's only what I have been reading but I don't think they care about the fans at all

The clubs haven't cared about fans for decades. The delusion is the fans thinking that the clubs care about them. Yes, sometimes the lifelong fan who has been going to matches for 40+ years gets some acknowledgement, but since before the PL era, the link between the clubs and fans has been broken.

As soon as global mobility came into the game the link between fans and the clubs started to erode. First the players were sourced from around the globe destroying the link between the local community and the club. Then the ownership became similarly diversified.

Most fans will cave in eventually.

There will be social media clips from the early games of Fernandes vs Ronaldo, KDB vs Messi etc. and people will be like 'Damn, I want to watch this.'

Probably start at £10 pay per view per match

Possibly, but I reckon TV rights deals with networks on a country-by-country basis are more valuable. JP Morgan are financing it and will know the value of TV rights deals. You only have to look at how well the PL, English cricket, F1 etc. have done financially by selling rights to non-terrestrial broadcasters.

I think football is slightly different to e.g. F1 in that there are multiple competitions and sports channels already paying a hefty amount for existing products. Can Sky afford to drop PL and focus on just this super league?

If it has the big 6 English clubs in it then it is likely a no-brainer. PL would be like the Championship now. It helps that each country usually has multiple outlets that drive up the bidding (e.g. Sky vs BT vs Amazon in the UK).

From the sound of it, i seems to be the minority.

Wouldnt be particularly hoping that it happen. But if it does i would not mind. Call me sitting on the fence or if u must supportive of it

Who to ship Bruno out fir then? I don't have Mount, so he is tempting, but will inevitably be rotated.

            Possibly Rashford? Maddison?

Surely with all the injuries this week you have other fires to put out before selling Bruno?

                Not really.

                Kane blanks next week anyway.

                Moyes says Lingard had cramp.

Wish he wore one of those caps the keepers would wear in the early 1900’s haha

It was you who wanted Greenwood in their WC team as a differential, right?
