Eliteserien 2021 Scout Picks – Runde 5

GOALKEEPER

Nikita Khaykin (B/G – 5.5mNOK, 6.5%) vs. FK Haugesund (H)

Haugesund look like they’re going to draw every single game 0-0 this season. Their average xG is 0.67 and just 8 of their 22 shots have been inside the area. They’ve also created 0 big chances. For me this should be one of Glimt’s most assured clean sheets of the campaign.

DEFENCE

Brede Moe (B/G – 5.1mNOK, 5.5%) vs. FK Haugesund (H)

Nailed in the middle of defence for the champions and only Fredrik André Bjørkan (6.0mNOK) (4) has amassed more than his 3 BFP. May not offer too much going forward (1G & 5A since 2018) but is a cheap way into the Glimt defence and stands out for this week’s game.

Lars-Christopher Vilsvik (SIF – 4.5mNOK, 1.5%) vs. Tromsø IL (H)

Vilsvik might have only scored 42pts last season but statistically he was far, far better. He has put in two decent performances to this point, recording 0.26xA against Lillestrøm and Kristiansund and has created 1 chance from 4 key passes. He’s largely overlooked and with Strømsgodset playing far better than most had imagined they would, I see him getting something in this home fixture against Tromsø

Christoffer Aasbak (KBK – 5.4mNOK, 0.8%) vs. Sarpsborg 08 FF (A)

This guy was brilliant last season and the only reason he’s not 6.0m is down to the team he plays for. He’s one of the most creative defenders in the league who has an aptitude for creating big chances as well as playing key passes – if he was fit from the start of the season, he would have been in my team despite those awful fixtures. He needed just 62 minutes against Strømsgodset to register his first assist of the season and clock up 9pts. Expect his price to rise over the next few weeks.

MIDFIELD

Kristoffer Zachariassen [K] (RBK – 10.3mNOK, 43.4%) vs Sandefjord Fotball (A)

I’ve decided that it doesn’t matter who Rosenborg play and if they win or not – Zachariassen is going to score. If they lose 4-2, chances are he’s scored both goals. He’s worth every penny and a day out at Sandefjord should see the points rolling in yet again. He’s scored 6 goals already – he’s the man to own.

Carlo Holse (RBK – 7.9mNOK, 7.9%) vs. Sandefjord Fotball (A)

Thought he looked great at times last season, but he hasn’t found his way into my team due to the increased depth in Rosenborg’s midfield and attack. Despite those fears he’s started the last 3 in a row and managed to get 2 assists from the bench in the 5-0 demolition of Viking. He’ll start again on Thursday and even if Rosenborg miss out on a very likely 3pts, expect him to be heavily involved.

Herman Stengel (SIF – 5.5mNOK, 1.2%) vs. Tromsø IL (H)

1 goal and 5 key passes in his first two games sees Stengel make his way into my picks for this week. As much as I applaud the way Tromsø try to play their way each and every week, I think Strømsgodset win this game and I’m expecting the 25-year-old midfielder to be heavily involved in everything they do. He might not have lived up to his potential, but a couple of good performances shows he’s not done yet – looks a great shout for this gameweek.

Torgil Øwre Gjertsen (KBK – 7.5mNOK, 1.2%) vs. Sarpsborg 08 FF (A)

Hasn’t scored yet but got 2 assists against Vålerenga and a solid performance at home to Strømsgodset saw him pick up 2 BFP despite no attacking returns. For me this guy could be the signing of the season – he’s already played 6 key passes and the majority of the attacks are going through him. If I could bring him for this week, I would, without question.

FORWARDS

Veton Berisha (VIK – 10.5mNOK, 39.4%) vs. Mjøndalen (H)

I’ve seen talk on social media about getting rid of Berisha. I cannot understand that logic. Well, not yet at least. Despite Mjøndalen’s strong start to the season, Viking will be considered favourites and Berisha has a real chance to cash in here. If it weren’t for both Zachariassen and Botheim being in such good form he’d get the captain’s armband.

Erik Botheim [V] (B/G – 10.4mNOK, 36.1%) vs. FK Haugesund (H)

I’m loving seeing this guy flourish at Glimt. The league champions epitomise everything I love about Norwegian football and Botheim looks right at home leading the line. 4 goals and 26pts in four games is a steady, consistent return if not explosive, but I actually think he’s been playing within himself. There’s more to come and a home fixture against Haugesund offers great potential.

Mushaga Bakenga (ODD – 9.6mNOK, 15.0%) vs. Lillestrøm SK (A)

Odd haven’t looked brilliant, but they’ve certainly benefitted from Bakenga’s early form. He’s more known for his goalscoring ability but the forward has actually created 3 chances and played 2 key passes so far, as well as scoring twice and getting 1 assist. Lillestrøm have looked poor and will not relish the idea of having to deal with this guy whatsoever.

Saltnes played a chunk of today's game at CB after Lode and Moe went off with injuries. Lode might have been precautionary. It wouldn't surprise me if Saltnes will play in defence next game, but it depends on the trust put into Sigurd Kvile.

To anyone thinking about bringing in Haugen...I mean, you know, could be rotated out next gameweek!

Looking like Molde's best asset other than Linde/Aursnes is Brynhildsen.

Not comfortable owning anyone else due to price and rotation risk.

Such a shame because they're looking good and there's so many points on offer.

Still, Glimt just keep on winning!

Bizarre. Gjertsen best player on the pitch again and he's overlooked.

This bonus system really isn't the most consistent way of scoring I have to admit.

It's not bizarre. He was the best player on the pitch. There are some dodgy bonus points awarded at times, but this wasn't one of them. Local media gave him MOTM too, and VG had him and Diop with the highest match ratings.

Sure there'll be more discussion of this to follow but anyone still undecided on DGW7 strategy? Already got eight DGW players and could make that a full XI with FTs so RU would just be to get the likes of Eikrem, Ohi, Solbakken over Aursnes and Berg. The cheaper options have served me well so far though.

Looks a good week for Spissrush but probably don't have the budget to get three big hitters. Ebiye away at Stabæk good enough for that third spot alongside Botheim and one of Ohi/Bakenga/Kjartansson?

    1. Bunk Moreland
      • 8 Years
      2 years, 10 months ago

Hey, think we have similar predicaments. Maybe I can share my thoughts and you can see if it’s any help to you?

Since I can get 9-10 decent doublers without a hit, I think I’ll save the RU chip. I’ll use either double captains, or spissrush. The latter would involve selling Zahariassen and my 4.5 forward for a good striker (ohi or kiartansson if he can find some form) and a cheap mid. Zach is just 1 yc away from a suspension and doesn’t double, so it’s not as crazy as it seems. I’ll decide shortly before gw7 deadline as it depends on whether I will have other fires to put out.

The spissrush would be Botheim - Friday - Ohi/Kjartansson

    2. Onz
      • 6 Years
      2 years, 10 months ago

I also have 8 doublers but I would need two hits to play Spissrush and change my bench 4.5 and Berisha. The options in my price range are limited so RU is the only way for me. I have considered a no chip GW7 but the hit in OR would dent my enthusiasm too much at this early stage in the season.
      Good luck all 🙂

What about just double captain? Or is it better used in a small dgw, perhaps ?

        1. Onz
          • 6 Years
          2 years, 10 months ago

double cap will depend on who you have and what fixtures they have. A DGW is optimal if you have two premiums with good fixtures.
This dgw does seem great for RU as the more expensive ( unaffordable) players have great fixtures.

Getting a bit sick of the Molde rotation, had Risa them swapped him for Bjornbak, if Bjornbak is out again tomorrow who's best to swap to for a short 2-3 week punt before wildcard, don't really want the Molde rotation and they are conceding anyway, is Aasbak at KBK a good choice they seem fairly solid but notice he keeps getting subbed around 60 ?

I think Aaabak is a brilliant player and one of the most creative defenders in the league.

At the same time he's just come back from injury and Snorre Nilsen is cheaper and looking class every game, hence why I went for the latter.

Strand Nilsen isn't nailed though, but I agree he looks promising. Definitely on my radar when Sørmo possibly leaves during the summer, but I think Aasbak got higher fantasy potential.

Aasbak always a decent pick. Dragsnes has the fixtures but not sure if LSK's defence is the real deal, Totland and Nilsen also attack minded. Maybe S08 if you fancy the Brann fixture in the DGW.

What's everyone doing with Berisha, had him from game 1 and he's starting to test my patience, I can't get to Ohi but could get Ebiye which frees up a lot of funds for midfield, any thoughts from those who've watched Berisha, is he due a big haul ?

Out of my team on RU for next week then I'll see what's what afterwards.

xG has been quite low and he's managed just 4 shots on target. Tripic joining has seen less dependency lie on his shoulders - but I still think it's too early to write him off.

Not sure who else I'd want - I think there's better options in midfield so it would be a downgrade for me so the question becomes "who do I want instead of Bell? And do I downgrade another defender?"

I'll be looking into these things during the two week break so don't worry I gotcha covered!

Just sold for Bakenga, don't feel confident but a potential makeshift defence for B/G followed by the DGW is more appealing.

No you will lose a transfer, back to just one in week 8. I'm in the same boat, playing RU next week so I've got a transfer this week to use or I lose it.

Not too sure if the Scout Picks will be put up in time so in case they don't make the deadline here they are:

    GOALKEEPER:

Sean McDermott (KBK – 5.1mNOK, 14.1%) vs. Lillestrøm SK (H)

Kristiansund have taken maximum points from their first three games of the season, including an unlikely 2-1 away win at Vålerenga. They’ve kept two clean sheets on the bounce and even though Lillestrøm have scored in each of their three games, I see Kristiansund being far too good at the back to let them create good enough chances to test McDermott enough.

    DEFENCE:

Snorre Strand Nilsen (KBK – 5.0mNOK, 3.0%) vs. Lillestrøm SK (H)

Kristiansund have made some good signings and Snorre Nilsen is genuinely looking like one of the best right backs in the league so far. He’s shown he offers attacking threat as well as playing key passes on a regular basis. At this moment in time he’s on par with Christoffer Aasbak (5.4mNOK) for attacking threat/consistency and he’s almost 0.5m cheaper.

Gustav Valsvik (SIF – 5.5mNOK, 4.6%) vs. SK Brann (A)

Listen, Brann might well score in this game, but the truth is it’s almost impossible to predict where clean sheets are coming from in this league and well, Strømsgodset have looked – dare I say it – pretty good despite picking up just 4pts from 9. Brann have played 6 lost 6, conceding 17 goals and scoring just 4. Valsvik is a big guy (1.95m) and could cause them real problems from set pieces.

Shayne Pattynama (VIK – 5.5mNOK, 0.3%) vs. FK Haugesund (A)

Needed just one half of football to register two assists against Mjøndalen. When I was looking into him after seeing he signed for Viking, I actually got into a debate with a Viking fan account on Twitter and I said “this guy could be the signing of the season” – I’m glad that doesn’t look to be completely wide of the mark at this point. He loves a cross and he’ll continue to ping balls into the box whatever the fixture. Looks a great shout for this week against a poor Haugesund side.

    Joachim Thomassen (S08 – 5.5mNOK, 2.3%) vs. Tromsø IL (A)

I don’t think Tromsø will go down this season but at the same time if they want a top half finish they’ll need to be a bit more creative. Despite being the home team in this fixture, I think Sarpsborg will be too hard for them to break down and I actually wouldn’t be surprised if they fail to score. Thomassen offers good attacking potential as well as being listed as a defender. Sarpsborg may not look like scoring much but if Tromsø take the game to them, they will be given plenty of opportunities to test Jacob Karlstrøm (4.5mNOK).

    MIDFIELD:

    Aron Dønnum [K] (VIF – 10.0mNOK, 37.2%) vs Sandefjord Fotball (H)

Vålerenga should be top of the league and they should have won every single game they’ve played. They’ve squandered too many chances but despite that profligacy in front of goal, I’m backing them to annihilate Sandefjord. Dønnum is playing some brilliant football and I stand by the opinion that he should be in everyone’s team. It’s just a matter of time before he starts scoring for fun and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get another double-digit haul. Easy captain choice this week. Occam’s Razor and all that.

    Ola Solbakken (B/G – 9.8mNOK, 2.4%) vs. Odds BK (A)

At times he seems like the forgotten man at Glimt though he really shouldn’t be seen in that light at all. Since his assist in the opening day win against Tromsø, he’s struggled for attacking returns but both scored and set up Erik Botheim (10.5mNOK) against Haugesund and I can see more of the same on Sunday. I’m not sure whether he’s been lacking in confidence or having difficulty trying to replace Hauge, but I get the feeling he’s been playing somewhat within himself recently, but with Glimt’s form looking impeccable, I’m confident that momentum can rub off on him.

Johan Hove (SIF – 8.0mNOK, 2.2%) vs. SK Brann (A)

At 8.0m he seems under-priced especially as we are all aware of his obvious talent. I was expecting him to be snapped up by one of the bigger clubs going into this campaign so for him to be completely overlooked and start the season at Strømsgodset, I was taken aback. He’s got 2 attacking returns in 3 games and Strømsgodset have looked GOOD. Genuinely, they’re posting very, very good stats and it’s making me think this guy is going to be ignored at our own peril. He’s a must have for this week. He’s also averaging 1.7 shots on target per match which is better than Kristoffer Zachariassen (10.4mNOK) and Aron Dønnum can manage (1.5 & 1.4).

Torgil Øwre Gjertsen (KBK – 7.5mNOK, 1.7%) vs. Lillestrøm SK (H)

I’d be tempted to say this guy is going to end the season with most assists in the league. He’s in great form and looks to be fitting in really well at his new club. I had some reservations when he joined but he’s put those doubts to bed and for 7.5m I can’t see past him. He’s come into my team for this game week as a home time against floundering Lillestrøm is an absolute gift of a fixture for one of the most creative players in the league to get his first goal of the season.

    ATTACK:

Fred Friday (SIF – 8.1mNOK, 6.8%) vs. SK Brann (A)

Got a goal and assist on his debut but has blanked in both games since. He was taken off at half-time against Tromsø, but it’s since come out that there is no injury to be concerned about – he starts this week. He leads the line for a Godset team that has been attacking and attacking and attacking – they could end up terrorising Brann. I think they win this game and there’s a strong chance their new forward will be involved in the goals

    Erik Botheim [V] (B/G – 10.5mNOK, 43.8%) vs. Odds BK (A)

5 games, 5 goals, 34pts. His xG figure is something of a potential concern – 1.7 – but this a game where Glimt are such strong favourites not just because they are the better side and in good form, but because Odds’ defence really is ravaged by injury right now. I get the feeling this could be a really big win for Glimt and even though Dønnum gets the armband for me, it’s a really, really close one and in all honesty both merit captaincy this week.

Thanks Reindeerhotdog - no Molde in your picks - are you concerned of mass rotation in the early kick off - I think they’ll be out the traps early looking to win big after the Valerenga game.

Rotation is an issue but I also think there's better fixtures to target.

Not sure about Ohi/Ola/EUA/Eikrem/Hestad/Haugen/Risa - I'd love to recommend Haugen but I know if I did he'd be benched!

Ohi will always be a safe bet but if I had the option I'd probably go with Friday over him this week as daft as that may sound!

Still think Molde win but I'm seeing a 2-1 victory and not a landslide.
