Can any of these teams potentially keep 15+ clean sheets?

    1. Everton
    2. Arsenal
    3. West Ham
    4. Villa
    5. Spurs
    6. Wolves

Yes Arsenal maybe if they sign the proper defenders. And possibly Spurs with Nuno magic.

Doubt it, fancy less cleanies with bigger crowds shouting. Will look out for possible cheap defenders like Eric Dier (4.5m) if he gets a run in the team.

Everton - they could do with Benitez there - They also have the personnel to play his 3 big physically dominant/set piece dominant centre backs if he wants with 3 of Mina, Keane, Godfrey & Holgate

Arsenal - maybe if White comes in and Arteta doesn’t rotate as much (no Europe will help with that)

West Ham - maybe, but very thin squad with European commitments too, probably doubtful

Villa - they’ve already done it, but needed soooo much luck so I couldn’t see it, but certainly 10+ looks doable

Spurs - can’t see it - Fans really don’t like defensive football, and their centrebacks haven’t looked too hot either, Dier, Rodon etc - maybe Nuno coming in & playing 5-3-2 helps… but the fans will hate his football even more than José & it could just be a big mess

Wolves - no idea, heard anecdotally that the new guy is more attacking than defensive… but all those years of Nuno’s defensive coaching won’t wear off overnight, so they should still be pretty solid

I feel he's overhyped personally, 120 points last two seasons isn't anything special. They just can't keep clean sheets. Maybe with the new manager it will improve but I think I'll start without myself.

According to the FPL website, the highest owned players in each position at the minute are:

    Martinez
    TAA, Shaw, Fofana
    Salah, Bruno, Grealish, Raphinha
    DCL, Watkins, Toney

With cheap subs it actually works out at 101.0 (due to Martinez instead of a 4.5)

These are pretty much the guys who will hurt if they smash early doors

Digne instead of Shaw & I must say I like it a lot - would be nice to get a proven striker instead of Toney, but he’s a good punt in fairness

    1. Dr. Rog

solid team - Grealish & Bruno make good cash cows for whatever game breaking option emerges this year (think it will be Havertz but who knows...)

Yeah TAA, Fofana, Raph & DCL are all high 20’s rather than 30+

        1. Eze Really?

All i can say is keep clear of Everton, no matter the fixtures. Fofana a mistake in pricing but I don't see me going for a CB with little attacking potential. TAA and Raph will be close to 50% at the start and when all the auto picks are cleared IMO

Went for Digne and Keane late season because of the fixtures and that worked out excellently. Those punting on DCL at the start of the season because of fixtures killed it. Everton are fine.

Everton not the same as last season. No manager atm. No support for DCL. I like Digne but I am one of the few who think he was priced right. Everton are not great against "average" teams. A wait and see for me. Consider my Grav.

I get the fans angst, and that could create a bad atmosphere (both home and away) but if Rafa’s in charge we know we’ll get defensive solidity though, hence Digne looks a no brainer to me

DCL has the fixtures, and worst case is a placeholder for Bamford or whichever 7.5 forward starts smashing early doors

I’d honestly even be tempted by Siggy as 4th mid depending on what we see from Rafa in pre season

So Everton will no doubt crash & burn & be bottom by GW6 😆

Hopefully Jrod decks off to somewhere warmer so Digne can get more set pieces, and Siggy has one less body in his way

I think Martinez has to go for a 4.5 anyways to get it under the 100m mark

Grealish & Watkins I’d actually be ok-ish with starting though, although it may be a bit too much as you say, one is probably enough

That's my gut feeling too, but Watkins and Martinez had really good seasons last year so I'm also finding it hard to convincingly answer "why not?". Tempted by Buendia rather than Grealish too.

I get that Toney is worth a punt, but if he doesn't work out what is the backup plan. Replace him with bench fodder and spend more on a 5th mid or fourth defender? It'll eat up two transfers assuming you don't waste the WC early

      1. Dr. Rog
        • 14 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

I suppose the back up plan would be either Pukki when the fixtures turn, or someone like Tammy Abraham will emerge if he gets a transfer

        1. Sheffield Wednesday
          • 3 Years

Although Pukki helped me to a great start two seasons ago, I don't see him as an option based on his performance over that season with Norwich. I figure I need £7.5M for a third fwd or else only have two forwards.

            • 3 Years

You would have to give Toney a few games before you consider him a flop though. I would think what you have mentioned is the likely escape route, downgrading to a 4.5 and upgrading 5th mid to the mid price player that has hit the ground running. Buendia for example.

Yeah you’re looking at the likes of Pukki, Benteke, Maupay… it’s not the deepest pool of talent at that price

Tammy might get a move he’s 6.5, as is Rodrigo at Leeds

        ASM, Wellbeck…

They’re all pretty sketchy picks at the best of times though

Thing is, if I had that exact team, then I’d find very little satisfaction and would bore myself. You can’t have an amazing start if you pick that team.

        Same

But coincidentally I I was very set on TAA, Salah, Bruno, Raphinia, Grealish & Watkins when thinking about the game after last season finished

And they’ve all been more or less feasibly priced & have decent fixtures too

The guys I’d want but that aren’t there are more the Nachos, Antonio’s, Wilson’s, Bamford’s etc

          4.5m keeper

Wither dias or robbo at the back with TAA

Grealish will probably be a cheaper option

A Kane team (actually covers Salahs captaincy very well)

    Sanchez 4

Why is that? At City, he's nailed to start near enough every game and being fed by a class team. Can see him scoring 25-30 if he goes there.

At Spurs, if they score, he's likely involved but Spurs are a proper mess at the moment.

ripping up the template further... lets shun Everton as they always have great starting fixtures and mostly flatter to deceive. their pricing is quite rich compared to the likes of Arsenal/Spu*s as well who are arguably better side

If you go 5x 4.5s in defence you can get all 3 handy enough. Just means no Taa/VVD/Robbo and they can hurt

Cannot wait for Maupay to outscore Toney in the first 6

Very possible. Trossard @6.5 could do well

Yeah he's in mine at the moment. If he can stay rotation free, think he's an under the radar great option.

I have a template draft at the moment I think but liking it so far.

    Sanchez/Steele
    TAA, VVD, Lamptey, Fofana, Sierralta
    Salah, Bruno, Barnes, Raphina, 4.5
    Watkins, Antonio, Toney

Nice side. I'd prefer Digne + Shaw over VVD + Fofana. Bonus, attacking threat, like both of them.

Thanks! It’s tough, I had both Shaw and Digne along with VVD and a fodder 4.5 striker but decided to try and upgrade to Toney.

    I think I’ve done a bad.
I’ve got a gameday 3 player on the bench, and a gameday 4 player starting.
As it’s only gameday 2, can I sub in my gameday 3 player - & sub him back off if he blanks ?

Yes. You can sub on and sub off players that didnt play as much as you like but once you sub off player that played he is locked on bench.

For example you can sub off Forsberg today for Kimpembe and tomorrow sub off Kimpembe to Forsberg if he Kimp blanks

Pretty happy with this so far

    Mellier
    James - Shaw - TAA - Tierney - 4.0
    Salah - Saka - KDB - Havertz - Bissouma
    Watkins - Nancho - Davis

That depends on your position in your league. Since I am chasing I am going with KDB as captain as a differential. Depay is the obvious one who everyone will choose so if you wanna live up to the username ”Balls of steel” then go for KDB. He is the best midfielder in the world playing against a not too strong Portugal defence…

I have overall rank and a country rank for the country I chose. I’m guessing you didn’t choose a country and are in a league of ‘neutrals’ who also didn’t

I think it's if you didn't pick a country you support or something, mine says neutral as well so presume it's just that

I think I’m going Ronaldo. I’d probably pick Ronnie from your 3.

I’ve got him, Depay, Wijna, Dumfries and KDB.

      Am I mad going Ronnie?

Hard decision - I've got Depay, KDB, Wijn, Ronaldo and Dumfries

    I'm between CR7 & KDB atm

    Who out of those?
