Is it absolute madness to start with Kane.......?

    Sanchez
    TAA / Shaw / Fofana / Keane
    Salah / Bruno / Raph / Sarr
    Kane / Toney

    Steele / Gilmour / Manquillo / Davis

Not absolute madness. Depends on the team overall. I would look at trying a 343.

Not madness if he's confirmed fit for week 1

There's the point that multiple premiums lose their value if they aren't captained. Some truth in that but over a run of fixtures you can defo blast it with multiples.

But Spurs as an unknown and week 1 doubts makes it a really big call.

Yes if Salah and Bruno. Two premiums max for captaincy picks otherwise they just aren't worth it for the value.

    442 or 352?

    Bachmann
    TAA Digne Shaw Dunk
    Salah Bruno Son Raphinha
    Watkins Toney
    4m Gilmour 4m Obafemi

    Bachmann
    TAA Shaw Veltman
    Salah Bruno Son Raphinha ESR
    Watkins Toney
    4m White Ayling Obafemi

Looking at the same 3-5-2 variant currently only with Fraser/Townsend as options to ESR and Tierney Coufal over Shaw Veltman

Arguable both ways - simply prefer to start with money in midfield.

Hey folks. I've compromised my bench to fit Son in. How is this looking:

    Martinez, 4.0

    Digne, Robertson, Fofana (White, 4.0)

    Salah, Buendia, Son, Gray, Fernandes

    Watkins, Toney, 4.5

Anywhere for me to downgrade to get a 2nd bench player?

Anyone else taking a punt on ESR as a 4th mid? Signed a new contract, has been given the number 10 shirt and it's not looking like a new signing in his position is coming, the Maddison links are laughable. He will trickle along nicely with points which is all you need for a 5.5 mid. Obviously one to keep an eye on but he's such a good enabler and has allowed me to build this:

    Sanchez
    TAA | Tierney | Fofana
    Salah | Bruno | Son | ESR
    Wilson | Watkins | Toney

    Steele | Veltman | Brownhill | Hoever

Toss up. I'd probably go for Harrison as 6.5m just seems a smidge too much for a bench player.

Also depends on your style, many would prefer the potential upside of Raphina in those games than the likely Maximum of 6pts from White

For the first 6 game weeks who scores more points,

    A) Sancho
    B) Son

Sancho has the higher ceiling with better fixtures but Son is proven and does love a goal vs City. Plus if he is the main man you fancy him even more.

    It's Son isn't it?

Love Son but Mahrez is tempting me more with 1 mil less and having NOR next. Think he should also be nailed for the first few matches. Long term it's Son hands down.

      1. TheTinman
        • 8 Years

Really don't see how Mahrez can be nailed even past GW2. Also its very likely he comes off early to get minutes in the legs of those who came back. But then you'd expect City to score 4+ against Norwich.

I just can't deal with Pep Roulette it's not in my nature

Exactly - let alone with both of them

        That’s mega-differential territory

I’m sure Live FPL could work out the exact % of teams that have both, but I’m guessing it’s around 1% or even less (given Wilson is only 5%)

Just a little punt based on that he is seemingly very attacking. If he doesn’t pan out I can move him onto Doherty or Reguilon if they look to be benefitting from Nuno and Cresswell, Shaw or a 4.5 if not.

It was a genuine question... It probably seemed a bit flippant. Problem gambling has been an issue for a very long time, and I haven't been on here for ages, but now I'm seeing a lot of strong feelings on the subject. Is it a prominent issue in the UK at the moment?

I think the reason it’s more of an issue on this site now is that FFS has sold out and pumps out regular articles encouraging gambling. I don’t even think they give users the ability to filter such articles out which could be triggering for some people considering this site did not historically promote gambling.

          2. Andy_Social
            • 11 Years

I'm actually British but have lived in Asia for a long time now. FFS is a global site and believe me, the problem is 1000% times worse in Asia. Where I live there is no social security safetynet for families whose breadwinner squanders all the income.
We had to let a staff member go last week. He was our delivery man. his sister phoned in to say he's gambled away his phone and motorbike. It was the second time. First time his family clubbed together to replace them so we wouldn't fire him, but he's gone and done it again.
We posters here are mostly aware enough of the dangers to resist the eds and pseudo-objective articles that try to entice us, but many are not educated or sophisticated and don't need such subliminal temptations.

Probably because we’ve now gotten to the point that it has infected football to the extent that there are many people who can’t enjoy a game without having a bet on.

Gambling culture in this country has become unhealthy and it is still relatively unregulated. Our screens are overrun with ads and they pay only lip service to helping addicts.

It's the standard deal Bet365 has with all their affiliates, and FFS has been given the opportunity to deny this is the deal they have with them on multiple occasions, and they either ignore the question, or say "I don't know, I'll look into it and get back to you" and never do.

does a pound coin feel better in your hand than a 5p because it is aesthetically more pleasing (heavier, chunkier), or does it feel better because you know it is worth more?

      Feeling good again for gw1:

      Bachmann
      Taa, robertson, vvd, shaw, digne
      Bruno, son
      Watkins, antonio, toney
      Foster, raphinha, brownhill, bissouma

I like to have one good asset rotating at the bench as i dont like playing lesser teams against top6 sides. Raphinha, digne, antonio, toney rotate well (one at the bench) for quite some time if i wish to go for that

I know most doesnt, but i love it for some reason. Even if i tend to come away from it at some point anyways 🙂 i just like value picks (i see defenders are)

Two seasons back i started gw1 with 5 at the back and was someting like 3000or for a while, i feel i started loosing grip after i started chasing team value and went for 3 at the back

Is template a useful term? What it seems to refer to is picks from a pool of 30-40 popular players on here. Which is hardly a template.... There could be three teams classed as such which have almost none of the same players. Differential-less?

Well I'd expect you to say that ;). I'd argue the pool of players being selected from is big enough to make the term redundant. Almost every team I see on here is selecting from that same pool of 'acceptable' choices.

The picks are higher than 5% owned though. And a draft might include a lot of players in many RMTs without actually being template - it's the combination that makes a template. As an example, I invite you to peruse my draft - all popular picks, but I'd argue due to the midfield and forward selections, it isn't template:

        Sanchez Foster
        TAA Shaw Digne Ayling White
        Salah Son Sancho Mahrez Brownhill
        Watkins Toney Obafemi

Well, well, hang on! My point is that whilst separately, Son, Sancho and Mahrez are all common picks, having all 3 is decidedly not template. Not arguing, discussing - do you disagree?

I’ve settled on this and I’m stepping away from the keyboard now: -

      Raya
      Digne Castagne Tierney
      Salah Bruno Raphinha Bowen
      Wilson DCL Watkins

      Bachmann Brownhill Ait Nouri Ayling

Gone for a full playing 15 with a couple of reasonably low risk differentials to allow for Covid interruptions plus 1m in back to allow for any potential bandwagon jumping.

Looking at it you've essentially cashed TAA money to get a full bench. Could prove smart but could be a waste. Still going quite minimal there myself. Whoever comes on is a two pointer really so who cares. Take a FT or hit the next week to eta. real option.

If revert to playing with WBs, I think there are 3/4 CS. With Europa starting after GW4 and having a small squad, issue is the amount of games the defence could play without any changes

        Fair point

Good run to start but then goes off. But there again looking at any defence beyond week 6 is optimistic imo before we see form established and that applies to the big sides too.

WH are the equal of most in that early run. 5.0? Decent price for odd cs and attacking returns.

Yeah, trciky one. I've had him in & out of my team. Only really planning for 6-7 weeks before likely WC, and realised I'll prob bench him 3/7 (lei, lee, mun) so maybe not worth it? And then I don't really want any Hammers once european games kick in. But to be fair I'm having doubts about most defenders to start with...

Aston Villa seems to be such great run club. Just two years ago they were promoted to PL, and now they seem to be ready to even fight for the Europa League. There must be some moneyball going on, their recruitment has been exceptional lately. Everton and West Ham should learn from them.

Absolutely. They initially made a right pig's ear of their transfer business and were very lucky to survive by one point. Then something went very right and all their transfer activity has been magnificent. I'm tipping them to finish 6th behind last season's top 5.

Big question for me is Grealish

Without him they were non-entities last season and down in or near the relegation zone on form. Don't see Buendia as a replacement if that is what he turns out to be. Can he carry a whole side (with Martinez)?

Amazing FPL player Grealish but even more significant in real life.

          • 7 Years

Well, at least that was a money very smartly spent. I am pretty sure they must use some advanced stats and have a great scouting. Just spending money isn't usually enough to have a good team - just look at what Fulham did.

Got away with it by a week 38 performance in their promotion season when you make the Fulham comparison.

On the face of it they have made good transfers but only value for money so far with some poor ones in there too. For me they are better on paper than in actuality. If they take the next step up this season and show consistent form I'd agree with you but right now I'm seeing one very good 20 match run and reliance on the one player they didn't buy.
