Our captain poll has launched for Gameweek 2 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

You can cast your vote via the embedded poll below or on the widget of our home page.

Fresh from a 17-point haul against Norwich City and with a home game against Burnley to look forward to, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) is unsurprisingly the early front-runner for armband duties among our voters.

Only two current Premier League sides have kept fewer clean sheets than the Clarets this calendar year.

There is equally predictable support for Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) after his hat-trick against Leeds United and ahead of Manchester United’s trip to a Southampton team who have conceded more Premier League goals than any other club in 2021 – nine of which arrived when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side last met the Saints in February.

Elsewhere, there is the small matter of Manchester City’s home clash with newly promoted Norwich City; the uncertainty over who Pep Guardiola will select in his starting XI is perhaps the reason why Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0m) and co don’t feature more prominently in the embryonic results of our vote.

Son Heung-min (£10.0m) and Tottenham Hotspur are away at Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Danny Ings (£8.0m) and Callum Wilson (£7.5m) will be licking their lips at opposing defences who conceded a combined seven goals in Gameweek 1.

Our captain poll will be followed by Tom and Joe’s Tuesday video which discusses the runners and riders for armband duties in more detail, while Captain Sensible will be published on Friday.

Is Mount to Mahrez worth it for GW2, City vs Norwich?

What's your plan with Mahrez after?

If you are bringing him in to then ship him out immediately you are wasting 2 valuable transfers. What's the gain? You will be hoping he scores a hat trick. He might but most likely won't.

Plus Mount vs Arsenal is a nice fixture too especially now he can aim the ball towards Lukaku instead of Werner. We all saw what Toney did to those Arsenal centre backs imagine the effect Lukaku will have.

Mahrez didn't really have a decent game yesterday, I'm not sure he starts.

The better gambles might be Grealish or Torres

        I’m considering Torres

      2. Amartey Partey

Torres was just as bad as Mahrez. Won’t Jesus start?

Well, I can’t get Fermandes now he’s gone up in price. Looks like I’m stuck with Sancho. Hopefully he delivers next week. May Captain him as a differential.

Not the week to risk Sancho (c) punt IMO. Having him is differential enough. Salah's XG is too good.

Early thoughts on Gundo replacement (if confirmed injured)?

    A) Greenwood (really like for this GW but not nailed)
    B) Mount (Tough fixtures in the short term but is nailed and tick along nicely, more set and forget for the medium term)
    C) Benrahma (already have Antonion, not sure about doubling up on WH)
    D) Dele (punt)

      A/C. Probably A.

If he keeps up form can’t see him getting dropped. Possibly shifted out wide but still good value for 7.5

City nor Wolves scored against Amartey and co.
Would not expect too much from Antonio and Benrahma combined. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ll save my FT. If I had Gundo I would probably probably consider how he could get me Lukaku or Son after next GW

Anybody playing Sun Dreamteam ? I'm off to a good start (currently 799th) using the block D method. I've got 3.5m ITB but I can't see an obvious way of using it ATM. Save my 5 FT's then split up the Pool D before the Chelsea game the way to go ?

You could upgrade Barnes to De Bruyne.

Yeah I’m in it but not doing as well as you!

Is the block D method to pick the defence from the same team with good early fixtures. Anything else involved in this method given you can enter 10 teams.

      Cheers

Yes pick defensive players from the same team for as long as they have good fixtures. Many go all in with 4 or even five defenders from that team but mids and forwards have a higher ceiling so I just go with the 3 defenders plus keeper. My Chelsea D teams going well too, the trick is getting off that D at the right time. That's when Pool and Chelsea in GW3 play each other for me.

Surprised to see landslide for Salah, although it's still early. Early kick-off, stubborn Burnley and Salah's poor record against them puts me off slightly. Bruno playing second striker vs shaky Southampton is very tempting.

Players don't like early kick-offs because it breaks the routine and patterns. Too early for a match. Sure, United obliterated Leeds in the early kick-off and if the best captaincy option is in the early kick off it won't put me off, but when it's tight I would give it a little bit into consideration.

I think a lot of people here just like not having their captaincy gone after the first game of the week, which I can get a bit. But if you think that player will get the most points then it really shouldn't be a factor

Did early kick-off affect United v Leeds?

That said, Bruno will never not be a good option. I might go for him too.

Maybe most don't care about it being an early kick off because it's clearly nonsense, realise Burnley being stubborn is just a stereotype from years gone by (conceded twice to Brighton at the weekend and conceded more than relegated Fulham and a Leeds team who are widely regarded as being very open) and think a previous record isn't the be all and end all? I don't particularly care how he got on at Turf Moor in 2018, I'm more interested in how he does in front of a full Anfield on the back of a brilliant performance at the weekend.

It is same brilliant Salah and his record vs Burnley is not that great, I think he's not that suited playing against that kind of opposition. Not saying Salah is a trap this week, you listed the obvious reasons why should he be a captain, it's just I think it closer between Salah and Bruno this week than the poll suggests.

      More on early kick off:

      https://www.thisisanfield.com/2018/04/jurgen-klopps-record-in-early-kick-off-games-gets-even-worse-after-stoke-draw/

Back in January he said: “I like night games, Saturday night is in general a night people don’t go to bed too early, it’s a good time to play football.

“Much better than at 12 — I’m hungry at 12, not at 7:45!”

Not 100% on Salah cap. Hate playing Burnley at home. They are so low block it drives me insane. Think we’ve scored a total of 1 goal in the last 2 home games. Hopefully the fans go completely buck wild for 90 minutes and suck the ball in.

I'm considering the same, but I'll wait until deadline, injuries, covid etc.

If he goes up 0.1 I'm fine with banking 0.9

Might wait until after gw2 as well, as Leicester is a better team with a class manager so I feel he's a 2-pointer in that game

If it helps, results in last 3 seasons between Leicester and West Ham (going backwards from latest match):

        WH 3-2
        WH 3-0
        LEI 2-1
        LEI 4-1
        Draw 2-2
        Draw 1-1

        Bring on the goals!

Tough. Ings is on pens and Villa have 2 more plum fixtures, which is why he is in your team from the start. Dont forget the plan you made.

Digne fixtures also look really good, however Everton are a worry. But not enough to move onto someone else just yet. Greenwood for free this week, as he'll probably be out for Cavani in 2/3 weeks.

Toney also looked spirited, but Ings is your man. Greenwood in for free is decent. The rest nah.

Arsenal were after Ramsdale who would come in as no.1 for the money being banded about.

Roll the transfer for a week - Benrahma not ideal fixture with Leicester. But moving to him in a week I like - good fixtures, and you get some budget back to play with in other areas.

Look. Salah is a 230-300 points man.
Jota if he gets minutes is potentially a 130-150 points man.

Toney played deep and I don't expect many goals to be honest if he keeps playing in that position.
Lukaku I guess is a 180-200 points man.

It is all up to Salah to be honest and if he scores 230 or 300 points this season. And also depends on what minutes will Jota get overall.

Now it looks like a bad move but I really don't know. It depends

          • 16 Years

Absolutely not for -4. Starting with Toney you have to hold him for at least gw2 against CP. At minimum sit a week and get better intel. One week is not a trend line.
