Joe, Seb and Andy help Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers prepare for Gameweek 2 and reveal their teams.

Already there have been significant price rises and transfer activity, even though the dust from Gameweek 1 has barely settled. But are these emerging bandwagons justified? Or will FPL managers regret making moves so early?

Our Scoutcast trio look at the key assets to generate interest, with Manchester United’s points-hauling maestros topping the bill.

Red Devils fan Andy leads the crew in a chat about the merits of hat-trick hero Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) as Gameweek 2 captain, the sustainability of Paul Pogba (£7.6m)’s creativity and where attacker Mason Greenwood (£7.5m) fits in as other strikers start returning from injury and rest.

Seb takes a look at the biggest underachievers and overachievers according to the statistics. This includes a focus on whether Manchester City’s stars showed enough threat against Tottenham Hotspur in Gameweek 1 to put Norwich City to the sword this weekend.

In true dullard style, Joe considers the unfashionable scorers in the season-opening set of fixtures to find out if any could be in vogue soon.

FPL points predictions for Gameweek 3 and beyond 3

This is a theme Joe carries on into the team’s differential discussion with a cheap goalkeeper firmly in his sights. Thankfully, Andy and Seb recommend more exciting, attacking options to give balance.

There are the next four fixtures to frisk, too, with Brentford emerging as having the kindest run.

Elsewhere, Joe grapples with the show’s eye-catching new graphics with mixed results, accidentally transferring Liverpool players to Manchester United at one point.

Seb, Joe and Andy’s Gameweek 1 performances are looked at, with one of them joining the exclusive ‘100 club’.

There are teams and captaincy decisions to reveal and also a chance to catch up on the Scoutcast’s management of a veteran Fantasy manager’s side, who has had to dip out of this campaign for mental health reasons. With a top 100 finish last season, the pressure is truly on to maintain his strong record.

Only 34k players in the sky game seems surprising given that its free to enter and there are decent cash prize rewards unlike FPL.

I've wanted to try it the last few seasons but not knowing anyone else that plays it sucks any fun out of it for me, I want to do well overall of course but I play it for the minileagues with mates and colleagues for a bit of banter. Kind of reminds me of Google+, it had some good ideas with groups and hangouts and far better UI, but nobody bothered to use it because everyone was already on something like Facebook, and even for all its faults they wouldn't bother to try anything else.

The scorpion wants to cross the river. For this, the scorpion asks for help from a frog.
"No," said the frog, "no, thank you. If I let you climb on me, you could sting me and the sting of a scorpion is deadly.
Where, said the scorpion, is the logic of that? Scorpions always try to be logical. If I bite you, you die and I would drown …
The frog was convinced and allowed the scorpion to climb on it. But, in the middle of the river, the frog felt a terrible sting and realized that the scorpion had stung her in spite of everything.
Logic! The frog cried as he sank, seeing that the scorpion was also sinking. This does not make sense!
"I know," the scorpion answered, "but it's my nature."

Yeah, for all his excellent play when available, he only had 6g 12a in 25 matches last season. Not a record to be sniffed at but for anything around 12m it's not great when you have options like Lingard that got 9g 4a in 16 games for nearly half the price, or Grealish with 6g 10a in 26 games for a little more than Lingard's price.

Depends on what you want the extra money for and how long you want him for.

Jota is always going to be a risky pick just because of minutes. I'm more confident in Benrahma starts that most here with or without Lingard.

Fitness stopped him starting first game. From now it’s all about form and strategy. After Leeds game, likely same team starts (with the possibility of Sancho over James). However I see Martial getting time up top or on left if we need a goal or need to rotate for fitness.

Looking increasingly unlikely that City sign Kane if reports are to be believed they have submitted a €150m bid and Levy still refused to accept it.

Why Grealish remains the question. If he had a release clause, they could have got him in any time. Why not concentrate on Kane first.

Zero reason to delay getting Grealish because of Kane. Maybe getting Grealish first was even their strategy, they can now threaten Levy that they can manage without and won't have to pay asking price (150m£).

        1. Respect My Authoritah
          • 11 Years
          4 years, 4 months ago

Hmmm not sure about that. Grealish adds little to their side, a striker is what they need. They've gone from constantly stretching and threatening in behind to playing in front for most of the game.

Grealish is a good signing in the long term. It may seem a bit odd right now but they never truly replaced David Silva, Bernardo Silva apparently wants to leave, and KDB, Gundogan and Mahrez are all 30.

I agree that a striker is more necessary but that doesn't mean Grealish isn't a good addition.

Levy wants £150m apparently, and the City offer was £125m.

This is a nightmare for Kane because Levy has deliberately turned the Spurs fans on to Kane, who has nowhere to go unless City pay what Levy wants.

Equally, for Spurs, they will never get any more for Kane than they will now. Next year he will be 29 and have only 2 years left on his contract, so Spurs leverage goes down significantly at that point.

It’s clear Kane wants out but it’s a shame it’s now being played out this way.

Kane could put in a transfer request and forgo his very large loyalty bonus he will still receive if sold without doing so, therefore putting the price Levy is demanding down, but he wants his cake etc...

They are playing tough mind games and fighting for every penny to the last minute. MCI can afford to not to buy him now, Spurs are not in financial situation to not to sell him imo. 135-140k£ is my guess.

Really would put the cat among the pigeons if City got Ronaldo for a year with Haaland and Kane being half-price next.

Ronaldo going nowhere, he made that very clear in his instagram statement.

IMO, City need Kane way more than Spurs need the money.

Currently have Greenwood as my third Man United player would it be smart to switch him to Pogba?
My thinking being Pogba is maybe a safer game time option going forward or do I accept any price hike and stick with Greenwood for the time being?
      Thanks in advance 🙂

I'd stick with Greenwood. He could drop out but I'm happy to keep until he does so. There's a decent chance he plays up top for a lot of the easier games this season.

I believe that that Greenwood might be even better option than Pogba if Cavani has isolate after itb. Yet casuals at this stage look at points only and if Pogba and Gw get about similar returns this week (and not zilch), Pogba bandwagon will continue. But at this moment you are late for this money chasing and ot's better to wait. Greenwood may now rise 0.1 also and if he scores hattie...

Pogba will be back to defensive mid when Sancho starts. And then he would be worth as much as any other 4.5m midfielder... Save yourself that transfer

I started with Maddison who I don’t know if will be fit for the weekend. And he’s on course to drop 0.1 by then too.
Is there any news on his fitness?
Wanted to hold the FT this week but the 0.1 would buy me another £7m alternative atm.

Barnes to Raphinha, Y or N?
Barnes was non-existent against Wolves, and although Raphinha wasn't much better he could've had an assist from a set-piece and should've scored a goal too.
I think Barnes will have a tough time against Coufal and Leeds at home with their fans back will be a big boost.

        My view on Barnes:
Good player liked by the manager. I knee jerked and picked him and wish I didn't. Iheanacho must surely get a chance soon. Whether Barnes suffers I have no idea but it could happen.
Ayling actually scored a goal! Against Everton who are bad by the way, he could perform but he would never be a pick. This makes Raphina more interesting IMO. He had a shocker against ManU but Everton is a whole different story.
Using an FT is strange for your choice. I would only consider if one was dropping and the other rising.

I think it's a little sidewards tbh, and could cause you further problems if Raphinha does miss GW4. Barnes has Norwich GW3, West Ham have been poor defensively for a while, and this fixture has a lot of goals in it (20 goals between the teams in last 5 meetings). Hold for now

A lot of managers have been snared by all kinds of players

The following snared me, Martinez Targett Bamford Shaw AWB Cacelo Torres.

Pogba not much worse a pick than any of those outfield players.

The question no one knows the answer to is who will be snared this week. Time will tell
