Our Big Numbers piece looks at some stand-out player and team statistics ahead of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline for Gameweek 3.

2.30 expected goals prevented (xGP) by Alisson Becker (£6.0m) in the last two Gameweeks. This means that the Brazilian has let in 2.30 fewer goals than data collectors Opta anticipate he should have, based on the quality of shots faced. Of the four goalkeepers who kept two clean sheets so far this season, he has ‘prevented’ more goals going in.

10 chances created by Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) in the first two Gameweeks is the most that any Premier League player in any position has supplied during this period. Newcastle United’s set-piece-taking defender Matt Ritchie (£5.0m), intriguingly, is second on nine. Alexander-Arnold has also created two big chances, meanwhile, a tally that only Vladimir Coufal (£5.0m) can match among FPL defenders.

7 goal attempts by Brighton centre-back Shane Duffy (£4.1m) in his last two matches; Lewis Dunk (£5.0m) has had zero. All of Duffy’s efforts have been headers from inside the opposition area and have come from set plays, so it’s perhaps no surprise that Pascal Gross (£6.0m) can’t be bettered for successful corner-kicks in the division so far.

49 final-third touches registered by Nelson Semedo (£4.9m) against Spurs, a total that no other defender – or indeed midfielder – could top in Gameweek 2.

9 penalty box touches registered by Reece James (£5.6m) in Sunday’s 2-0 derby victory over Arsenal is the most that any FPL defender managed in Gameweek 2. His total of four shots against the Gunners was also unsurpassed among his FPL positional rivals.

28 penalty box touches, ten goal attempts, eight shots in the box and three big chances created recorded by Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) against Norwich and Burnley combined in the opening two Gameweeks, all totals that are unbeaten amongst FPL midfielders.

23 penalty box touches and 10 goal attempts recorded by Adama Traoré (£6.0m) in his last two league matches for Wolves, totals that none of his teammates can better. Traoré has had seven shots in the area in that timeframe, with only Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) and Sadio Mane (£11.9m) registering more among Fantasy midfielders. Adama tops the expected goal involvement (xGI) table among all midfielders (1.79); he didn’t have a single ‘big chance’ in 2020/21 but has had two already in his new role under Bruno Lage.

Just on the keepers I went Schmeichel and Sanchez on bench boost gw1. But the two rotate that well I will probably keep them in my gw5 wildcard. Have a look at it if you can spare the cash.

That just the same idea as say Nacho at Leicester, I've seen it happen so many times, Benrahma is taking his chance and playing well, but that doesn't mean he is the best fit for that team, that formation and for Moyes, that is why they want Lingard back

I saw the last west ham game live on TV. What stood out to me was his intelligence and movement. I heard an FPL 'expert' mentioning that Traore from wolves had similar XG to Benrahma. It made me laugh because the two players are completey different. One has a football brain and a composer. The other does not!

Lol it is unfair to compare him with Troare , Benrahma has been playing great and passed the eye test for sure, but it isn't us he has to convince

I also watched the game, Leicester did go down to 10 men and there was mistake leading up to the Benrahma goal, but he did play well

I can’t decide either! Antonio seems such a good option this week, but I generally prefer captaining a premium like Bruno.

I have Son as well who I’m actually leaning towards, but then still would be really fun captaining Antonio!

I'd captain Son if i had him. Antonio/West Ham as captaincy just doesn't feel reliable. Bruno v difficult fixture though.

Feel liable? West Ham are flying, Antonio full of confidence. Plus last season they were in the mix for CL football.

You’re definitely right on the points over price for captain. I just seem to always end up regretting my decision when I try for a cheaper captain, but couldn’t ask for a better week to do it with Antonio’s form and fixture.

I'm on either him or Son. Spurs could bust out at home with Kane back vs a pretty unimpressive Watford side that was dismantled by Brighton.

Think of it this way the masses will likely go Fernandes. On here it will be Son v Antonio. You just have think which route is the best of those options, or if there is an obvious one people are overlooking.

Red card can do that to the best of teams. With 11 on the pitch they’re just a much better team than Nor and I personally expect a clean sheet. He’s in my starting 11.

Burn, Veltman and Lamptey are all out, but not sure who they’d drop if only one for them came back in though. Seen both Burn and Veltman play centre and wing back.

        I don't think he'll start in the long-term:

        1. Potter hardly played him in his first season, loaned him out last season and was rumoured to be trying to sell him earlier in the summer. The assumption is he didn't rate him because of his lack of ability on the ball as Potter wants his teams to play out from the back.

        2. Brighton have three defenders to come back into the side. Veltman will definitely be back by gameweek 4 and can play as a centre back, Lamptey might be back by then too, Dan Burn is also out but seems to be taking longer. Duffy is presumably rated below all three of them by Potter (Lamptey is a right back but could push Veltman into a centre back spot if he were fit potentially).

        3. There have been some rumours about Brighton signing another wingback which throws some more competition into the mix for defensive positions.

          3. Cucurella plays on the left and would compete with March. Doesn't really effect CB other than burn less likely to fill in at lwb

No, but you could maybe take the trouble to read or listen to some of Potter's recent interviews. Or check what the fans are saying. Or look up a couple of the local newspapers that know the club and write about them every day. 🙂

Maybe, but his form may cause his manager to keep him a while. From what i have gathered on here recently, he has a better shot at staying if Potter goes back to using 3 at the back when Burn, Lamptey, Veltman come back. I think injuries are the reason they are playing 4 at the back?

Yeah, I feel it's a silly thought. I liked the look of it, and am almost out of money for it with the price changes, but it'll probably bite me, and is a bit too much on West ham (have Antonio too).

Maybe just Barnes to Benrahama, although I'm sure that Barnes is going to haul this GW given so many have made this move 🙂

Cresswell is a bit expensive in my eyes at 5.5m given I suspect we'll want funds for forwards later in the season (Kane, Lukaku, Ronaldo etc.) and I still see them as mid-table defensively in terms of stats and not a reliable source of CS.

I was looking at the barnes > benrahma move on its own. Feels like it could backfire though with Barnes v Norwich.

Cresswell does seem expensive and reconfiguring for a premium striker this is all good advice I think. Thanks!

      1. Save the FT. (Barnes + Ings -> Sarr + Lukaku next week maybe).
      2. Salah-> Fernandes for 2 weeks (or another move).
      3. Use the FT for a 1 week punt and WC next GW to restructure funds more.

      Sanchez
      Pereira, TAA, Coufal.
      Salah, Benrahma, Greenwood, Barnes.
      Wilson, Ings, Antonio (c).
      Bachmann, Shaw, Bissouma, Tsimikas.

In general, I feel much more comfortable bringing in a player when they dont have a difficult first fixture regardless of how good their future fixture run may be because otherwise, you should probably be delaying the transfer by 1 week.

Due to this, Im massively put off bringing in Raph vs Pool next week as a Barnes replacement and would probably be more inclined to bring in Sarr or Traore who in my eyes are worse options but obviously have the slight fixture advantage.

However, if I were to make the transfer this week, Id be very happy to bring in Raph as I can have him vs Burnley as the first fixture and for this reason Im tempted to make the move this week so that I can bring in Raph and be happy with it.

      Does this make some sense?

That's fine, but again you are inaccurate.
Kyle was very attacking last season, he just didn't have the face numbers of goals/assists.
Fullbacks in Hasenhüttl systems are asked to play very aggressively with and without the ball.

The slight last season was that we were somewhat reluctant to cross, although this season we are more direct.

I think its why people have gone so far away from rotating keepers, everyone just made the wrong choice so much!

Guess if he is super attacking he could become a 3rd/4th spot and not just bench fodder who pisses you off when he get 11 on the bench in some strange game you never in a million years though of playing him

I disagree. I seemed very attacking in the last game.

Not going to get much going forward I don’t think, but a good 4.0 option who looks most likely to be in the team long term.

I guess he's just started and has been immediately trusted into the team. I guess 1 assist in the couple of games played would have made things more concrete.

Any stats on how many price changes there have been vs. previous seasons? Feels like more at this stage but maybe I'm wrong!

So far this season there have been 172 price changes (27 rises and 145 falls) to date.

On the eve of last season’s GW3 deadline (one fewer day since the start of the respective seasons) there had been 180 changes (23 rises and 157 falls).

FPL towers has their finger on the scale again with Lukaku. He's been at at over 100 all week.

Not last night he wasn't, the only three above 100% were the three who rose, and they were only just over. One was 100.5 and the other two 100.6

Because wildcard transfers don't count towards price rises. It's only people on wildcard bringing him in (and Mark Sutherns!)
