2.30 expected goals prevented (xGP) by Alisson Becker (£6.0m) in the last two Gameweeks. This means that the Brazilian has let in 2.30 fewer goals than data collectors Opta anticipate he should have, based on the quality of shots faced. Of the four goalkeepers who kept two clean sheets so far this season, he has ‘prevented’ more goals going in.

10 chances created by Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) in the first two Gameweeks is the most that any Premier League player in any position has supplied during this period. Newcastle United’s set-piece-taking defender Matt Ritchie (£5.0m), intriguingly, is second on nine. Alexander-Arnold has also created two big chances, meanwhile, a tally that only Vladimir Coufal (£5.0m) can match among FPL defenders.

7 goal attempts by Brighton centre-back Shane Duffy (£4.1m) in his last two matches; Lewis Dunk (£5.0m) has had zero. All of Duffy’s efforts have been headers from inside the opposition area and have come from set plays, so it’s perhaps no surprise that Pascal Gross (£6.0m) can’t be bettered for successful corner-kicks in the division so far.

49 final-third touches registered by Nelson Semedo (£4.9m) against Spurs, a total that no other defender – or indeed midfielder – could top in Gameweek 2.

9 penalty box touches registered by Reece James (£5.6m) in Sunday’s 2-0 derby victory over Arsenal is the most that any FPL defender managed in Gameweek 2. His total of four shots against the Gunners was also unsurpassed among his FPL positional rivals.

28 penalty box touches, ten goal attempts, eight shots in the box and three big chances created recorded by Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) against Norwich and Burnley combined in the opening two Gameweeks, all totals that are unbeaten amongst FPL midfielders.

23 penalty box touches and 10 goal attempts recorded by Adama Traoré (£6.0m) in his last two league matches for Wolves, totals that none of his teammates can better. Traoré has had seven shots in the area in that timeframe, with only Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) and Sadio Mane (£11.9m) registering more among Fantasy midfielders. Adama tops the expected goal involvement (xGI) table among all midfielders (1.79); he didn’t have a single ‘big chance’ in 2020/21 but has had two already in his new role under Bruno Lage.

    Good morning all.
Who would you sell first out of (and why?)

    A. Toney
    B. Cash
    C. Tsimikas

I actually sold Toney and Konsa (basically Cash) this week. If only one I would sell Cash first as Villa fixtures turn bad sooner. Toney could come right in the next few.

Agree with the above. Cash out this week, Toney next. Remarkable that Toney hasn’t dropped yet, think he will plummet in price over the break if he doesn’t return GW3. Who would be your Toney replacement? Base your Cash transfer on the Toney upgrade.

I downgraded Toney to Dennis to get more money into midfield, but could go the other way.

If you don’t need the transfers it could work, but personally I think 1 week transfers can upset better planning.

However it did work for me a couple years ago when I got Aguero for 1 week!

No, I wouldn’t do that for one week, assuming you are saying you’ll swap back next week. But that’s based on a feeling that it will be a high scoring game (LIV v che)

    Start Duffy, Livramento or Amartey?
Duffy: got his hail last week swapped for Veltman, could he do it again? Have Sanchez in goal so less inclined this week on double up, but don’t want that to sway my choice.
Livramento: if he plays further forward could this be his first return away to Newcastle, or is he over hyped?
Amartey: should start, but Norwich must score soon, I’m disregarding results v Liverpool and City, and they scored 6

(Continued) scored 6 against Bournemouth mid week so could be boosted by that result.

I’d say Amartey is the best bet for a clean sheet, Duffy best for a goal and Livra probably second for both of those.

I think I’d go with Duffy just because of the goal threat.

Surely it won’t happen too often that all 3 have decent fixtures and whichever you choose you still not really relying on their points. It’s the extra money elsewhere that will be the real difference.

Prefer Sanchez at the lower price which has to be a priority if we are to afford these big hitters.
      D looks ok.
      No Bruno would concern me.
      Fwds are good.

Salah apart, it's full of budget friendly players. I would prefer to see another heavy hitter in there as a captaincy option if nothing else.

      Rating: 6/10

I laid my bed early and did not go Bruno. I should get another heavy hitter. Trying to get away with it until GW7. Sanchez so boring but you are right.

Did you bench boost GW1? Tough benching problem in attack.

Tsimi can sit on your bench for a little so I’d look to swap Martinez out before him and also look at maximising your starting 7 in attack by downgrading one of them.

Benching problem I guess but getting rid of Martinez and Tsimiskas can be delayed till WC or until cash is required.

If you have a spare FT this week, then getting rid would make sense, otherwise save FT.

Amazing team! I would think given you cannot play 8 attackers, you could take out 1.5M by downgrading Sarr

If you want to go full differential - you could think of upgrading your defense to Dias and/or James vs Shaw and Coufal. Livra can cover the occasional benching.

Martinez did his best work last season vs. the big teams, so wouldnt be too scared to hold on to him, unless you downgrade Sarr and him to get a super-premium like Kane, Lukaku, Bruno or maybe even ronaldo

I am ignoring Tsimi - i think of transfers (even FT) as 4 points, and 1M as 25 points for the season. So wouldnt spend 4 points (FT) for 0.1m value (2.5 points over full season ignoring WC).

Hope he can retain the 4.2 till when you WC otherwise no problem one way or another

Always possible, but I think this is a week where you can go for a different captain as no obvious choice.

Do you think Captain polls reflect the final picks? After all what my be the ‘best captain’ might not be the choice you make (for EO reasons). With that could a large % of those voting Antonio actually go Bruno at crunch time?

That is just the nature of the game. Fernandez is probably the most vc player this week. We all know he can get an double digit score in any week. Casual or not he is a genuine captain pick and then it is just the role of the dice as to how we get on at the end of the game week. Going with Antonio is the same educated guess as Bruno but eye test, stats and betting odds should lower the odds of getting it wrong. Just look at last weeks Salah captain outcome.

31% Antonio and 15% Bruno, yes he’s second, so you’re right, lots holding firm on Bruno. While the template remains the captain pick could shake things up this week…

Cracked it. I can do a squad with Salah, Lukaku, Kane and Ronaldo. All it means is 7 of the squad are 4,5m or less. Should be good to go, right? 😉

This is a tactic in NFL fantasy. Studs and Duds.
Hoping your stars can cover your fillers.

It means avoiding all the mid range players. That’s the only downside.

There's a few downsides. I won't be doing this. I'll more likely be Upside Chasing, switching Salah/Bruno and a combo of 2 of Kane/Kaku/CR7

‘Downside Chasing’ I like it! Would ‘Cheapskate Chasing’ work as well? It was how I played the game 10 years ago, when premium defenders were not a thing. Max 22m in DEF and lowest price GKs and 5th mid, pick the premiums and rotate captains and the cheap defenders, worked for me then, but wouldn’t be confident of that now

Cheapskate indeed. It wouldn't work now, not only because of changes re defenders, but these galacticos will all play fewer minutes (maybe excepting Kane) due to greater CL commitments. Elite club rotation (maybe excepting Liverpool with its thin squad) is more a factor than ever before.

This works in NFL because it’s usually draft format and you don’t drop your elite players as they are nabbed off waivers by someone else.
So every week you scour the free agents pool for form players and fix your week links or fill ins for players on byes.
FPL is different as you can jump between premium players with the reassurance that they can return at anytime.

Almost exactly the same! Raphina ticking over the points, Bamford in streaks. But you can’t ignore position, a streaky Bamford at his price takes up a valuable striker spot, when other similar/cheaper strikers possibly more consistent

My hunch says Bamford, but with the price difference, Raph is maybe better value. More importantly, there are now more than 4 forwards you'd badly want, whereas there's not much competition in the mid-price midfielder spot.

Go Raphina I’d guess he will be more value. His price was the first hot topic of this season, that noise has abated since we’re all busy with other matters now, but probably still true he is under priced

      Bambam

    5. bunk_medal

I think Bamford will outscore him. Last season their expected goal involvements per 90 were fairly close (Raphinha 0.60 / Bamford 0.65) but Bamford's were heavily weighted toward goals rather than assists in comparison and he might take some penalties this year. This season in two games Bamford still has a higher expected goal involvement per 90.

Plus Bamford had more minutes last season, which might just be random (Raphinha's injury) but might not be. Not to mention the Brazil thing/travel issues. Put simply if you genuinely ignored price and I had to put my life savings on it I would pick Bamford. I don't think it's a massive gap, but I can't really see a reason to pick Raphinha in that situation.

United would benefit and as an individualist, he would be a better fit for United than high-pressing City.
But I guess the Glazers won't match his wage demands, and CR7 is motivated to win everything, which he judges he's far more likely to do under Pep than Ole.

Sorry dude still catching up. Dead right.

I do worry that we will be spending our free transfers on switching premiums meaning the rest of team will be set and forget. I love finding value in low priced to mid priced players.

Then again it will make the game harder which is always a good thing.

Yeh, that's the 'Upside Chasing' strategy. It does mean choosing mid-price players who will stay in your squad for the long haul. That means 3 mid-priced nailed defenders, the likes of Raphinha and other midfielders not in Euro competitions who won't be rested much.
Many ways to skin the cat, and no clear strategy bing superior to others. It breaks the template and makes the game far more interesting.
