Meet the Manager: Seven-time top 10k finisher reveals his Gameweek 4 Wildcard

In his latest Meet the Manager episode, Joe (@FFScout_Joe) chats to Tino Waked (@tinowaked) one of the best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers of all time, with seven top 10k finishes across his 13-year career.

His stellar run in FPL includes four top 4k finishes as well as a top 500 end of season rank.

Could an incredible eighth top 10k season be on its way this time around? At 23k heading into Gameweek 4 he certainly looks on course for a strong year once again.

Tino reveals the secrets to his success over his career and how dividing the season into a safe and steady first half and risk taking final few months has helped him.

The statistics available at Fantasy Football Scout have also aided him, as he runs through his favourite to look out for in each position. This research works best when combined with the eye test. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has curtailed his ability to watch games from his home in Egypt recently.

The health crisis has also seen fans absent from stadiums, a factor that has disrupted his usual close attention to home and away form.

Even though he is riding high in the rankings this season, he has taken the uncharacteristically early season, bold move of Wildcarding.

Fixture swings and the addition of Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m) and Manchester United’s Christian Ronaldo (£12.5m) to the game have prompted him to make the move.

But will both of these elite strikers make it into his final draft, or just one?

The Meet the Manager series is where Joe chats to FPL managers with a strong record of success, an interesting view of the game and are offering the community a unique insight into Fantasy management.

Joe’s chat with Tino can be viewed below:

Last couple of decisions left on WC..... Best 4.5 GK is a tough one and so is Tierney vs Semedo

Raya looks like the best of the sub £5m keepers, but I think Guaita is a decent £4.5 keeper if you can only spend up to that limit.

I think Semedo may be more reliable than Tierney.

I feel like this is results based.

Brentford kept CSs vs a hapless Arsenal and Crystal Palace so far. They conceded the most goals in the Championship by far. The only reason to go for Raya is for the save points.

I presume it was this, from the worthy source of the Sun...

"The Sun suggest Cristiano Ronaldo could have to wait until next Tuesday for his second full United debut.

It is claimed summer signing Ronaldo will only have one day’s training with his new teammates after having to isolate for five days in his Cheshire mansion due to Covid rules.

Therefore he is unlikely to start against Newcastle this weekend and could be introduced from the bench instead.

His first full start could come next week against Young Boys in the Champions League instead."

Heung-Min Son has been ruled out of the WC qualifying match vs Lebanon. The KFA revealed that the #COYS star "experienced discomfort in his right leg after Monday's practice", which was later diagnosed as a strained calf. However, they insist his absence is purely precautionary.

Lots of money on the bench each week, and you've got 4 mids all around 6m, which means should you want to move for a Mount, Foden, Jota in the coming weeks you'll have to take 2 transfers to get there. I'd drop Saka to a 4.5 and upgrade one of Gray or Sarr to at least a 7.5. You planning on rotating regi/semedo? Can't see a fixture for Semedo in the next 6 where you'll be benching him, which means rotating Regi and another of your 6m mids every week. Just leaves too much money on the bench which could be moved now to a Jota/Mount/Grealish now.

Steered clear of Son this year so far (although in my team last 2 seasons). I am glad I don't have that headache at the mo! I know he was phenomenal last year, but on average, can't see a difference between him and Gundo, so rather save the money and use elsewhere in my squad.

Son has been a consistent 170+ point performer for years, while Gundo has consistently been 100- save for last year’s tally (enabled by KDB injury)?

Like I said, he scored well last year, but under 170 in the previous 2 seasons...
Gundo is not a replacement for KDB, he will play in the side with him.
Obviously you see this differently, but 170 for 7.3M is better than 170 from 10.1M, Son will always be on my watchlist, but spurs are scoring low but keeping clean sheets, which is very Nuno-esque!!

Do you plan on doubling-up Pep on the Chelsea attack? If only one of Mount or Raphinha I’d go Raphinha who is underpriced in my opinion but I’d bring Ronald in up front to spread funds around your formation. Bamford on the radar too though for Leeds attack coverage.

May just go with this 4-3-3 on WC. Defence a little weak but seems ok otherwise.

Would likely start with a placeholder for Raph in GW4 then switch the week after. Shaw to Chelsea def in GW 7 or 8.

    Sanchez
    TAA - Shaw - Coady - White
    Salah - Raphinha - Traore
    Ronaldo - Lukaku - DCL

Considering it. Could go Saka over Torres then switch to Raph next week.

Think I'd prefer to punt on ESR and bank the 0.9m.

ESR is also my preferred dip into Arsenal. On small sample:
Saka xG 0.13 xA 0.06 (also subbed on/off every game so far).
      ESR xG 0.25 xA 0.40 (played 270mins)

You mean Trent don’t you. 😉

I’m quite happy to go without on my WC and see how it pans out.

If it looks like I’ve made a mistake, I’ll get him in.

How much do you have in the bank? If u are using wildcard and not taking taa but rather planning transfer if things dont work out actually sounds abit weird

What % Ronaldo starts vs Newcastle??

The hype around Ronaldo, changed shirt number, back at the club that made him. First game is homegame at Old T in front of all the fans, next game is away. Of course he starts, even if Ole doesn't want to start him, this is much bigger than him.

50/50. People are forgetting United still have Cavani, who’s been training this whole time.

I have held back on Ronaldo this week, sure he is probably a must, but will forego this week and bring him GW5!

Yep, be great if they all played at 15.00 ( UK) on a Saturday afternoon, then our anguish would only last for 2 hours 😀

I was so set on the Bruno to ronaldo move, but I'm just not sure it's worth a - 4 with those fixtures after Newcastle.
    Which would you do? 1.7itb
    A) Toney to jimenez
    B) bruno and toney to torres/mount and ronaldo
    C) save ft

    Sanchez foster
    TAA shaw White ayling livra
    Salah Bruno raphinha benrahma gilmour
    DCL antonio toney
