The key FPL Gameweek 5 stats on Salah, City, Wolves, Mendy, Spurs and more

Four Gameweeks have passed and I thought it might be a good idea to take note of some statistics from the Premium Members Area that have caught my eye so far. Of course, I know that four Gameweeks is not a sufficient sample size, so I will try my best to contextualise things as well.

SALAH’S CREATIVITY

It is not like we needed any more reason to strengthen our belief in Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) but the fact remains that there is a greater case for him now simply because the avenues to points have increased. He’s always had incredibly strong underlying numbers when it comes to goal threat, which is also the case this year. Only two players, Sadio Mane (£11.9m) and Michail Antonio (£7.9m), have had more big chances, shots and shots in the box than him. This is something we always expect from the Egyptian.

The cherry on the cake, though, is that Salah is also table-topping the creative stats. Only two players are ahead of him in the chances created and the big chances created metrics. His historical chances created per 90 minutes numbers are below:

That is all from me for this Gameweek. I hope you enjoyed reading this article and I will see you next week!

In the meantime, if you want more information and thoughts about the Gameweek, do check out our latest episode of The FPL Wire below:

      It's between Jimi and Bam.

Bamford's underlyings are better. He's taking up more threatening positions. And he has higher goal threat. Jimi more creative and made more chances.

Fixtures are comparably good. Wolves better than Leeds.

Ultimately, I went Bam because of goal threat and because I'm not sure that Jimi will break his duck anytime soon. If he had scored last week I'd be more willing to go there.

Gone with one mid-priced asset from each team with a good fixture run, with the only double-up being Wolves: Antonio, Jim, Raph, Gray, Tierney, Marçal. Gallagher comes in GW9

This is around the spine of Salah, TAA, Jota/Greenwood/Pogba/Mount/Ziyech/Grealish, Ron/Rom, Shaw/Reece, Duffy/Livra, and 4.5/5.0 GK

think there's some good underlying stats floating about but i think best option re wolves is their wing backs, think i'm just getting sucked into a Jimi "trap"

Agree about their wingbacks. I picked saiss last week, unfortunately. Semedo look like an attacking mid.

Hi all, would appreciate some thoughts on my WC team.

Krul, Guaita (seem to rotate quite well over next 10 games or so)

Trent, Tierney, Marçal, Semedo, Livramento - not 100% sure on the Wolves double up, any better suitors for one of those Wolves defenders?

    Salah, Gray, ESR, Raphinha, Gallagher

Lukaku, Ronaldo, Pukki - it's between Pukki or Hwang for me.

Likely to go 4-3-3 this weekend with Guaita, Livramento, Gray and Gallagher benched.

    Thanks.

      - Personally don't like rotating goalkeepers
      - Defs ok, have no problem with the wolves double up
      - Very light in midfield but that's the sacrifice you have to make to fit in the big 3. Since you have 3 playing forwards I would downgrade one of the mids to a 4.5 and use the money elsewhere.

Thanks, interesting points, I've been stung in the past having a non playing sub keeper so don't want to go down that route again.

I'll go back to the drawing board to see if I can strengthen the mid. Cheers

Yeah just go with one 4.5 keeper. I’d drop Pukki to a non playing 4.5 forward and upgrading ESR to Jota or Torres.

Different sets of positions but which pair would you rather have for the next 5 to 6 weeks? All 4 to play every GW.

    B) Gallagher + James

      B. Don't like playing a 4.5 mid every week.

  8. Pep Pig

    2 years, 6 months ago

    Ramsdale Gillespie
    TAA Semedo Tierney James Livramento
    Sarr Salah Torres Raphiinha Gilmour
    Bamford Ronny Jimenez

Feel this is the way I'm going to go.
Double Arsenal at the back will raise eyebrows but I believe this could be a great way to climb the ranks. 3-4 clean sheets from their next 7 games is a possibility with Tierney offering potential at both ends. Time will tell...

Think Torres is worth the hold. Scored last night though was ruled out for offside. I think he is going to have a great season.

Good luck all for this week

    Thoughts on this wildcard team?

    Sanchez
    TAA James Semedo Marcal
    Salah Jota Raphinha Gray
    Ronaldo Bamford

    (4.0 Antonio* Livramento Sissoko)

Marcal (BRE & NEW) covers Antonio this week and Gray (mun) in GW7.

Plan is to get Lukaku, another Chelsea def & a City mid with my 3 FTs till GW8.

On a WC, and I’m only really agonizing over one of my picks.
    A certain Feran Torres!

I feel he could be my ‘ace in the hole’. Started the last 4 Prem games as striker and City keep scoring loads of goals - so maybe Pep will keep playing him? He’s at a decent price point, and I’m happy to keep that MF spot as my ‘punt spot’ and switch to players who have form/fixtures in their favour.

But on the other hand it’s Pep, so god knows what he will do! Plus, Torres seems to be doing everything but score or assist (barring that one 18 point game).

I’m very confused. What do other people think about including Torres on WC?

As long as you are set to cover the odd benching with a decent 4-3-3 option then it is more than worth the risk.
I just said further up I believe he's going to have a great season. His movement up top looks very impressive and I think he fits Pep's season well. Would love to be a striker playing alongside Grealish in his form

Would avoid Torres on WC. Southampton fixture is good but after that he has che liv. Probably the two worst fixtures of the entire schedule.

And now Foden and KdB are back. He's a transfer waiting to happen. This is also a big reason why I'm trying my hardest to survive until GW8 before wildcarding. We'll get more time to see which City assets to go for and the fixtures clear up starting with BUR. Might have double City on GW8 WC with more confidence.

      1. thegaffer82
        • 12 Years
        2 years, 6 months ago

Fair points. But I don’t mind having to transfer him out at some point. He’s a short term punt on WC that I’m hoping may turn into a mainstay.
But, the fixtures definitely aren’t in his favour so I may reconsider on that point alone

    4. Karan14

like those transfers but surely Ings instead of Antonio and play Ayling or White - White has a good fixture - you then have Antonio when a lot of people have sold him for 2 great fixtures and you’ve solved your Ings issue.

Depending on press conferences, I think I will save FT. Will keep Antonio and give my midfielders another chance, to see what I have there. Next week, with 2FTs, I can decide if surgery to get Lukaku is necessary.

I wouldn’t go Benny on WC (I took him out as soon as I activated WC)

I’d probably go Livramento as the 5th DF & plough the £££ into MF & attack. But that’s just me

    Pepe explosion is imminent.

3.3 shot per game, highest on that list and still without a goal (bar Watkins with 4 spg and only 1 start). We can expect either an explosion or he is very shaky in front of goal and just not very good at all.

    Raúl Jiménez:

A work colleague who ardently follows Wolves is not convinced one but by Jiménez. He says he’s ‘a shadow of his former self’ and btw he says Marcal is an injury waiting to happen. Wolves’ underlying stats do look impressive and Jiménez is very likely to get 90 mins per game (based on past performances). But I’d he your pick of their attack? Do you trust his form will pick up given those imminent gameweeks?

I think such an injury gives you a bit of fear and he'll try to be more careful after such an injury. As an FPL pick, I'd just wait for him to score first and then potentially jump on that train.

You sound like a social feed comment in football manager " heard from his dentists friend that he's...." , there are plenty of ardent followers of any club in the pl, unles you are a coach, physio, sports scientest, manager or player of the club you dont know jack about anything about any player at the club period, just pure speculation and opinion

        - hence why I’m asking for opinions. Geeez. I only made the point about the colleague who follows Wolves as I don’t go to their games.

I think Jimi is very safe punt, Wolves 3rd best attacking stats and he has been involved, just matter of time.

besides the injury he's also dropping a bit deeper, like Firmino. Much easier to jump on him if he starts scoring

    Meslier
    Semedo Trent Dias Shaw Duffy
Benrahma Raphinha Salah (c) (Gilmour Bissouma)
    Bamford Ronaldo (Antonio)

Shall I go with this -4 or get in Jimi (-8) and bench Duffy

Yeah think you’re right. Definitely overthinking! It’s always so tempting to use the WC when it’s available. Thinking I’ll play this team, then do Benrahma to Gray next week for the game against Norwich. Then WC in the Chelsea players for GW7. That’s the plan anyway. And we all know how well these plans go in FPL lol
