The key FPL Gameweek 5 stats on Salah, City, Wolves, Mendy, Spurs and more

Four Gameweeks have passed and I thought it might be a good idea to take note of some statistics from the Premium Members Area that have caught my eye so far. Of course, I know that four Gameweeks is not a sufficient sample size, so I will try my best to contextualise things as well.

SALAH’S CREATIVITY

It is not like we needed any more reason to strengthen our belief in Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) but the fact remains that there is a greater case for him now simply because the avenues to points have increased. He’s always had incredibly strong underlying numbers when it comes to goal threat, which is also the case this year. Only two players, Sadio Mane (£11.9m) and Michail Antonio (£7.9m), have had more big chances, shots and shots in the box than him. This is something we always expect from the Egyptian.

The cherry on the cake, though, is that Salah is also table-topping the creative stats. Only two players are ahead of him in the chances created and the big chances created metrics. His historical chances created per 90 minutes numbers are below:

That is all from me for this Gameweek. I hope you enjoyed reading this article and I will see you next week!

In the meantime, if you want more information and thoughts about the Gameweek, do check out our latest episode of The FPL Wire below:

Former pop star and child aficionado and current dead person Michael Jackson had a pet chimp called Bubbles. He is still alive and rocking it at 38 in Florida with his best bud Ripley. He’s got himself a few of the ladies in Oopsie, Boma, Jessie and Kodua. Due to his early years he bloody hates cameras and will spit in your face if you try and take a photo.

Pick him or Ripley on WC? Ripley has better underlying stats but Bubbles has been smashing it in the first 4.

I’d get Ripley. Bubbles is still a great player but age is not on his side which has shown in the last season or two with him picking up some unfamiliar injuries. Yes he can fling poo from 30 yards but they’re often off target. Where as Ripley has the talent to get up close and shoot from there and more often then not it’s right in your face.

Undecided between Gray and Doucoure (or even Townsend?)

Anyone have any helpful/compelling arguments for one over the other?

The only input I have is I’ve had a very keen eye on Gray this season. I’ve just been waiting for him to find a bit of form and it looks like he very much has it so it’s him for me.

I’m going Doucoure (priced out of Gray now) but am quietly confident from the stats and the eye test this returns will be more sustainable this season. Looks proper box to box under Benitez and has had some decent FPL returns in the past.

On a wildcard, which is the better combo:

    A) Semedo, Omabamidele, Jota (343, Oma last sub, 0 ITB)

    B) Marcal/Semedo, Cancelo, Gallagher (433 / 343 rotate between Marcal/Semedo and Gallagher - 0.4 ITB if I go for Marcal)

    Sanchez
    Taa, Coady, Shaw, Amartey, Ayling
    Raphinha, Son, (C)Salah, Jota
    Ronaldo

    Foster, Bissouma, Antonio, Obafemi

    1 Ft 0.0 ITB

Don't have enough to transfer out Antonio>Bamford

Need to do something about Amartey and Obafemi.

Any suggestions please, should I wildcard?

      Save.
      Son and Obafemi out.
Bring in Adama, Grey, Torres and Jimenez, Bamford for -4.
Save next week, with Antonio back you got almost a Perfect setup.
Then i GW7 with 2FT bring in Lukaku + Havertz/Mount + Reece for a -4 or only two with the FT.
Then a WC i GW8 or you might be able to save it until 14/15

Not sure Edouard starts but he will get minutes for next to certain.

Do think he's a possible 15 goal striker this season mind you. And 3 home games in next 4. The Leicester one falls in a Europa week when they are travelling and the other two are Brighton and Newcastle.

A big punt but think he's better than all the rest.

To come on as a sub and score 2, even against 10 men in 12 minutes is cracking stuff. He seems a very confident player.

I own Dennis, good fixtures. Hopefully I get something from him.

B is preferred because: I've already gained 0.1m on Kovacic so hoping he'll rise by 0.1m more, in time to do Marcal > James in 2 weeks time.

Very boring and marginal question but on WC would you rather have Bissouma at 4.6m or a 4.5m mid e.g. Gilmour/McArthur? Already have Sissoko and may prefer Bissouma as first sub occasionally.

The 0.1m would actually come in handy to do Shaw > James GW7 instead of Shaw > Rudiger.

    1. pingissimus
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 6 months ago

McArthur I'v been touting but think he'll likely see reduced minutes now with Mili back and Hughes hovering. I'd go Gilmour - absence last time just international break fixtures,

Mili will almost certainly get the armband back and could well start this week but Liverpool away is an odd fixture so there may be a special set up and not the 4-3-3 with one CDM

There's a midfield 3 with these competing for the slots: Gallagher Mili McArthur Hughes Kouyate Schlupp and Eze (from late October/early November)

Plenty of competition and he'll play but I'd be surprised if he was nailed enough to be a 4.5 choice. Surely you want nailed there.

Then I’d want Sanchez and Steele in goal so would avoid Bissouma as he would prohibit a third outfield Brighton option were one to emerge later on. Think Gilmour is probably your best bet at 4.5

I've actually got Duffy as well (or will on WC this week), so was having to move Steele out to make way.

Gilmour does make more sense for that reason.

Morning lads...bit unsure of what to do with my team

    Sanchez Foster
    TAA Coady Coufal Tsimikas Amartey
    Salah Son Raphinha Benhrahma Bissouma
    Ronaldo Antonio Toney

    A) Son and Tsimi -> Jota and James
    B) Son and Toney -> Greenwood and Bamford
    C) Keep Son

If I do A, might not need to wild card ahead of GW7 and make a direct switch from Ronaldo to Lukaku

    Thoughts?

    Digne to Semedo for free?

    Digne next 3:

    Villa (a)
    Norwich (H)
    United (A)

    Semedo next 3

    Brentford H
    Southampton A
    Newcastle H

    A. Yes
    B. No, too sideways.

I've WC from a very similar team. I think one of either Kaku or CR7 is needed.

*Amartey Partey* Have you read the Fabio article on this site?
Further to your comment that XG was a load of bull, he states something like, he's a stats led manager that uses XG as the main & best stat. It's clearly been very successful for him. Perhaps that might influence you to reconsider your opinion as it may improve you as an FPL manager. I don't know how thoroughly you've researched XG & exactly what you're basing your opinion on, perhaps you've identified something that others have missed. TBF
I too was very sceptical at first borderline dismissive of it, so I understand where you are coming from but as I mentioned clubs have used it for years as a KPI for recruitment & there are plenty of examples of FPL managers that have been successful using it as a tool. Thought I'd highlight it in case you missed it & it is of interest. 🙂
