Captain Poll

Who is the best FPL captain for Gameweek 6? Vote now

Our captain poll has launched for Gameweek 6 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

You can cast your vote via the embedded poll below or on the widget of our home page.

Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) was the runaway winner in our Gameweek 5 poll with over 60% of the vote but the Egyptian surely won’t have it all his own way this week, with Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.7m) and Manchester United back on home soil.

Salah and Liverpool face a potentially trickier test than the Season Ticker would have us believe, up against a Brentford backline that has conceded on just two occasions this season.

Still, Salah has racked up three double-digit hauls in his first five starts and has reached 50 FPL points quicker than in any of his previous campaigns.

Ronaldo has four goals in his three competitive United appearances since rejoining the Red Devils, meanwhile.

And Bruno Fernandes (£11.9m) has racked up three successive double-digit hauls against this weekend’s opponents, Aston Villa.

With eight clean sheets between them in 2021/22 so far, defences could be on top at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea entertain Manchester City – so Romelu Lukaku (£11.6m) will likely be well down the pecking order in our vote.

Said Benrahma (£6.4m) and the newly available Michail Antonio (£7.9m) will face a Leeds United defence without a clean sheet in their first five matches and who have conceded more shots on target than any other club, while Ismaila Sarr (£6.0m) faces the tantalising prospect of encountering a Newcastle United backline that are joint-bottom for big chances allowed. The Magpies are also without a shut-out in 2021/22.

There’s one defence that is even worse than the above two clubs for goals conceded: Norwich City have shipped on 14 occasions already and will face Demarai Gray‘s (£5.7m) Everton next.

Our captain poll will be followed by Tom and Joe’s Tuesday video which discusses the runners and riders for armband duties in more detail, while Friday’s Captain Sensible piece will analyse the leading candidates in much more forensic detail than what we have discussed here.

      A) it looks too good to be true value wise!

      Ronaldo -> Lukaku ASAP

Still a great team there. I'm also actively thinking of going with only one of Lukaku/Ronaldo and swapping between them as much as I can.

Ruben Dias has created 8 chances so far this season, with 56 mins per chance created. This is more than all of last season, where he created one chance per 948 minutes. So that assist wasn't a fluke, but I haven't watched enough to know what's going on. Is he doing something different? Does the lack of Stones put more emphasis on him playing out?

My guess would be its knockdowns from set pieces but haven't watched to confirm this

Half of them in the box so likely some - but the other four are all passes from deep like his assist. He must be being more progressive.

If it's the knockdowns from corners, it's even more chance of an assist as City players are way better with the ball on the ground.

I'm starting to feel like Hwang (5.5m) is the budget striker to have. Strongly suspect he may get some starts soon.

He cost 1m more than pure fodder though and isn’t yet starting so isn’t as valuable as a 6.0/6.5 in your first 11

Valid, but the thing is, there are quite a few playing 4.5 mids (which came in handy this past weekend) and no playing 4.5 strikers. So it's between Hwang and Dennis, and I think Dennis may lose his spot one Joao Pedro is fit again. Thoughts?

Would you WC this team to the below team in GW7?

    Current team :-

    Sanchez Steele
    TAA Shaw Ayling Tsimikas Livramento
    Salah Bruno Odegaard Gray Sarr
    Ronaldo Antonio Scarlett

    WC team in GW7 :-

    Ramsdale Foster
    TAA Dias Alonso Rudiger Livramento
    Salah Raphinha Mbeumo Gallagher Gilmour
    Ronaldo Lukaku Scarlett

    Planning to switch to 442

    1. Pinturicchio10
        2 years, 6 months ago

I favour the 442 this season but with just one premium forward as it allows a very strong midfield as well as a premium defence. Not a fan of two 5.5-ish mids.

I WC'd to a similar team and like it. I like it as give you the 3 big hitters and fill up with Chelsea for the fixtures coming up. Means you can downgrade one of the big hitters if you need to shift funds around

Have both Semedo & Marcal plus also James from Chelsea.
Want to get rid of one of the Wolves def soon. Better option?

      A) Rudiger from GW7 onwards
      B) Dias from GW8 onwards

      1. Lord of Ings

Dias is going to score from a set piece, with the way Chelsea defends set pieces he is bound to score. I put 10 pounds on a Matip to score when they played Chelsea and he was so close with that header that eventually lead to the pen.

Disaster. Plus I've taken 3 hits in two GWs straight after wildcarding. So I need to calm down and do one transfer per week. My next one is booked in, so I've got nothing to think about for a bit. That should mean I'm less active here until things get interesting again.

I got to my high position by taking risks and defying the herd. This week that approach smacked me in the mouth. I ought to tread a middle path. Let's see if I've got the self-discipline.

I got an ok score with 72 but I really enjoyed the game week. I was a bit miffed at first as I sold Tsimikas for Livramento. But lots went right. Benrahma goal after thinking he’d be out injured, same with Raphinia. Livramento getting subbed on with a clean sheet. Lukaku blanking in a 3-0.
All that while at my sisters wedding. 🙂

Torres owners, are you keeping the faith? Next two fixtures about as bad as it gets and a bit concerning Pep didn't bring him on when looking for a winner.

The fact that they didn't score is probably a positive. But no one knows what Pep is thinking (see my comment below). I'd probably move him on personally, particularly if you have your WC in hand.

I played it in GW4 bringing him in. I started the season with Mahrez too so already been burnt twice in terms of targeting the Norwich and Southampton fixtures. Tend to agree with what you've said below tbh and besides Dias/Cancelo not sure I'm in a rush to go back to the roulette anytime soon (I'm leaning towards selling Torres atm). Grealish might be safest option in terms of being nailed in the City attach but not sure we've seen enough evidence of potential upside there yet.

Since City's fixtures are turning in the not so distant future, a question for your all. In prior seasons it used to be a more than viable strategy to jump on city assets and take the odd benching on the chin. If you timed it right or were patient enough to hold through the roulette you could make massive gains on the field. But it seems to me since 2020/2021 it's become increasingly difficult to play this strategy. City's squad is more bloated, particularly in the midfield, and they aren't scoring as many goals to justify taking a benching here and there. Plus there's more risk than ever that your player will be put out to pasture for whoever knows how long (I'm looking at you Mahrez). Is Pep Roulette no longer a viable strategy? Or will you be jumping on city assets again when the fixtures turn?

I agree, it's getting evermore riskier and less rewarding to stick with a City asset. The only exception might be Dias, and he's a bit expensive for his 6 points. I expect I'll own one or two of them at some point, but who and when, I couldn't say right now.

It's a shame because some of my favourite FPL memories of recent years are huge differential captain hauls with a city asset that virtually no one has. But every time I tried it last year I just go burned. It's the main reason why I had such a poor season.

        GW6 - Jota -> Sarr/Raphinha
        GW7 - Bamford & Greenwood -> Lukaku (C) & Kovacic

I am starting to wonder whether the TAA, Salah, Lukaku and Ronaldo setup is way too much

        BUT

I am going to roll with it. No point getting rid of Lukaku 'flat track bully' fixtures 7 to 20 and no point getting rid of Ronaldo when he is capable of returning every game irrespective of the fixture and seems to be hoovering up all UTD attacking asset points. Plus I also have Antonio up top exploding when you do not expect it.

The 7 million range midfielders just do not tickle my fancy tbf.

I will however be downgrading Mendy to a 4.5 GK and upgrading one of my defenders.

Over the next few weeks, I've been thinking about doing the following transfers to allow for Lukaku & Ron up top. Would leave me with 0.5m in the bank, so Kovacic could also be someone like Gallagher/Odegaard? Thoughts as it would leave me with this team?

        Marcal > Duffy
        Jota > Benrahma
        Torres > Kovacic/Odegaard
        Bamford > Lukaku

It is entirely possible and optically looks nice but there are a few major issues with it

          1) You have to play a 4mln defender every week in the XI (and the bench is all fodder)
          2) The mids are basically shite and there is no flexibility to jump on a Jota/Grealish type player who could go on a run
          3) Captaincy, which is really key. I would accept those sacrifices in 1 and 2, if they were required to secure a captain. However they are being made to secure a 3rd premium option in this instance which in isolation is going to be a poor value trade unless they score at 9-10ppg over the given period, which frankly is not sustainable as it implies a 350+ season.

For point 1 I see no problem with playing a 4m defender. They're a bargain and value buys for a reason. No point getting just to keep on the bench. Duffy and Livramento rotate nicely and have been keeping clean sheets and For point 2 how is there no flexibility? There's literally an extra premium u can downgrade to anyone u want.

I went James over Rudi in my WC last week and regret doing so. I think Rudi is the fulcrum of that Chelsea defence and will play the most games (and get the most points).

i think James is a good pick, the benching was unlucky and points will flow in the easier fixtures

Alonso vs Chilly is interesting, I want Alonso which means as soon as i get him, chilwell will be back in the team
