FPL team reveal: Who I’m replacing Ilkay Gundogan with for Gameweek 6

After five Gameweeks of the 2021/22 campaign, I’m sat with a fairly uninspiring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rank of 633,801.

Having been positioned around 300k in Gameweek 3, it’s been a challenging couple of weeks for my team.

However, with margins fine (see below) and many FPL managers deploying chips in the opening weeks, focusing on rank at this stage of the season probably isn’t worth it.

Live totals needed for ranks, via Ragabolly’s excellent LiveFPL website

So, ahead of Gameweek 6, here is how I’m currently set-up, armed with one free transfer and £0.9m in the bank.

With a Wildcard pencilled in for Gameweek 8, any moves I make will at most be two-week plays.

That also came into my thinking last week, with an idea to use the ‘Gundogan’ spot as a rotating position that I could have some fun with, focusing on short-term punts before I Wildcard.

That didn’t exactly go to plan in Gameweek 5, as Ilkay Gundogan (£7.3m) and Manchester City underwhelmed, but it’s something I’m going to continue with this week, as the rest of my team looks ‘okay’, providing Raphinha (£6.5m) is fit of course.

So, with a budget of £8.2m, who is on the Watchlist?

The 28-year-old is likely to return for the following fixture against Watford at Elland Road on 2 October.

Can't really decide between Benrahma and Gallagher for the next few games. CP has two home games but really don't know how they will perform.
Benrahma plays against weakened Leeds and has Brentford at home, could say that slightly better than Gallagher's.

Get Benrahma now and monitor Gallagher?

I know my post mentioned xG but that wasn't it's main point, the point was that we have little to go off with Sarr, it's only one game he's delivered in really. Sarr doesn't have much of a history of goals at the highest level, outside of the Norwich game. Not really the same with Christiano Ronaldo now is it...

A good option over the next 2 for sure, fixtures are the biggest factor for me, but just thought I'd post an observation to go into the decision-making cauldron. Not attacking him.

I remember watching Sarr for the first time years ago.. Every game I was thinking how incredible a player he was, and I was expecting him to score goals every moment..
Now looking at him, I hrt the same feeling all the time..
I have him in my team from the start of the season and I dont see that I'll be selling any time soon..
What I want to say is, I really don't delve into the advanced stats so much, but I think that everyone that has watched his games must have gotten the impression that he will continue to score regardless of fixtures..
Sarr is now a complete bandwagon bcs of one single game (and that's judt stupid) but I don't think many people realise how good and a dangerous player her really is..

                Well said

This is one of those unfortunate situations where those who are knee-jerking are making a good decision (getting Sarr in) based on bad logic (Getting him because he hauled at Norwich)

*And not all those transferring Sarr in are kneejerking either btw, but a significant amount likely are

Oh I agree he's a quality player. Deserves a move to a bigger club.

For me it's whether he can consistently get points in this Watford team playing in the Premier League. Surely going to be in a relegation scrap. It's only Watford I doubt.

I don't put as much weight in stats as I used to. Eye test is the best for me short-term. My point was just that his returns mostly came against an atrocious Norwich side.

Still a great option over the next two.

"Is too much weight being put on the Norwich game iyo?" - It depends on your reasons for buying him

If you're buying him because he hauled against Norwich, then yes, far too much weight is being put on the Norwich game

If you're buying him because he's an exceptionally talented attacking talisman with super fixtures, (almost certainly) penalties and good pedigree - (He has done this type of thing as a 21-year old against Liverpool at Anfield as well, and check his career history goals vs. XG to see how good a finisher he generally is), then - no, there isn't too much weight being put on the Norwich game

He won't score 15 points every game, but he will make a mockery of 6.0 & is far too good for Watford

Sarr is the talisman isn't he? Watford know they need to score against these teams. They won't get much vs. better defenses.

    Play 1 out of 3
    A Semedo
    B Livramento
    C Coufal

Thoughts. Coufal could be good because Leeds are without Bamford and probably Raphinha.
Soton v Wolves could be 0-0 draw

Don't get why so many people are factoring his removal into their plans. Not like Bamford missing is going to have a huge effect on his returns.

Not quite sure why there is a scramble for Sarr. Plays for Watford who are 5th worst for expected goals. Duffy and Laporte are above him for shots in the box. I don't buy into the touches in the final third stat when the Watford's game plan is essentially give the ball to Sarr.

fixtures, OOP, affordability (you especially see him in 3 premium teams). You have to have enablers, and better to have those that can possibly return.
