Quarter Finals – Day Two – Dugout Discussion

The second quarter-final of EURO 2012 is less than an hour away, with Germany and Greece doing battle for the right to clinch a place in the last four alongside Portugal. As always, we’ve rolled out the Dugout Discussion ahead of this evening’s 7.45pm kick-off.

The team news is now in and, for many Fantasy managers, it looks like it’s going to be a frustrating night…

Joachim Low makes four changes to the side that saw off Denmark in Germany’s final group game. Jerome Boateng returns at right-back after serving a one-match suspension, with Lars Bender dropping back to the bench. Up front, however, today’s earlier rumours have proven to be true – Marco Reus, Andreas Schurrle and Miroslav Klose are all handed roles in the first XI, with Thomas Muller, Lukas Podolski and Mario Gomez dropping to the bench.

Fernando Santos makes a couple of alterations to the Greece side that stunned Russia last time out. Skipper Giorgos Karagounis is suspended and is replaced in midfield by Grigorios Makos, while up front Theofanis Gekas makes way for Sotiris Ninis.

Germany Starting XI: Neuer; Boateng, Hummels, Badstuber, Lahm; Khedira, Schweinsteiger; Reus, Ozil, Schurrle – Klose

Greece Starting XI: Sifakis; Torosidis, Papasthopoulos, Papadopoulos, Tzavellas; Makos, Katsouranis, Maniatis; Ninis, Samaras, Salpingidis

    if the greek goalie had been subbed after that bang on his head it's quite possible another goalie would have saved at least two of the german goals as they were straight at him

      they were two good goals your're talking about mate. the 1st one by lahm was swerving away from the outstretched palms of the keeper. still he almost stopped it.power behind the shot was too much to keep out with finger tips. very difficult to keep it out. the blaster by khedira would not have gone in even with best of goal keepers in goal. there was nothing he could do about the fourth stopped well against the klose. the 3rd goal was still a howler.
      but sifakis did fumble a lot with shots taken from range. never was able to catch.

          captain every game, only 11 players, no limit on players from same team, cash prize, not too many 'expert' rivals (ala mcdonalds game) so a better chance of finishing high up

    If anyone had told me that before the QFs started, I would be subbing Gomez out from my team for an England player at the end of QF2, I would have laughed in their faces... Unfortunately I am having to do just that today...

            Because fpl is over 38 games.. Takes skill to get a great final season ranking over that length of time.... A couple of lucky or unlucky breaks can make or break a short tournament game.

    Just done my rough team plans. Presumed that spain will go through because they make the game hardest - as their players are all the most expensive.

    Then if Italy go through I have 13 players playing, or if England go through I have 13 players playing.
    Though in both of them I've included Oliviera

    I'm already having 3 players of 4.0 ( keeper , def, mid 1 each )..is it a good idea to bring one more as long as we can find one to save a bit more cash as long as the greek fillers are there????? Standing on 7 FTs now since I had to ship out selassie for Maniatis....it took out 1 of my FTs 🙁 Please suggest guys

      Yeah I'm definitely losing Gomez, too expensive for limited game time. Ozil is more nailed on, as such I have upgraded the schwein to Ozil and intend to remove Gomez, get someone like perhaps balotelli instead and upgrade one of my cheaper mids to khedeira
