Is Michail Antonio a fixture-proof pick in FPL?

Michail Antonio (£8.0m) looks set to become the most-selected forward in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in the run-up to Gameweek 8, with Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m) hemorrhaging owners.

Antonio is also the highest-scoring player in his position, averaging 8.2 points per match.

West Ham United sit second-bottom of our Season Ticker for fixture difficulty over the next eight Gameweeks, however:

With that in mind, it’s worth a look at Antonio’s track record against the so-called ‘bigger’ clubs to see how he traditionally fares when the schedules get trickier.

We’re just examining Antonio during David Moyes’ second spell in east London here, which gives us not far off two years’ worth of data. It is only under his current boss that he has carved out a career as a bona fide centre-forward, having previously operated as everything from a right-back to a left-winger under former head coaches.

Our thanks go to TopMarx for his dredging of the historic data for this piece.

ANTONIO v THE ‘BIG SIX’

Goals6Blanks7 (50%)Appearances14
Assists310 Points+1 (7%)Total Points67
Bonus9Points per Match4.79

Antonio’s record against the traditional Premier League elite in the second coming of Moyes is very decent indeed, with nine attacking returns in 14 appearances.

It’s even better when we look at his last 10 run-outs, a period that coincides with West Ham’s upturn in form at the back-end of 2019/20.

In those games, Antonio averages 6.0 points per match and has only blanked on three occasions.

The West Ham striker scored against Manchester City home and away last season and produced a 12-point haul in his previous meeting with Chelsea, although has yet to face the meaner, Thomas Tuchel incarnation of the Blues.

What's our thoughts on Ferran Torres? Another 2 goals for Spain as their number 9...yet he's not been chosen by Pep for the last 3 games. Does he get another run soon as number 9 at City?

Not really, in that I wouldn't do it, but I think Sadio is well aware of the point you are making.

Obviously the forward line is pretty anaemic, but could fix that with a rejigged MF and leave the defence as is if he really wanted to.

and the forwards either tick along at great value OR it becomes a kind of 451 with rotated-anaemia upfront 😆

Alonso and Chilwell very rarely make cameos, but fair point - loose idea would be to swap whichever one looks worse in a couple of weeks to Reece James - then with so many rotation-prone players the bench is there to save the day

The UAE state uses its network of football clubs like Man City to whitewash stuff like slavery and human rights abuses, which go all the way to immediate family members of the person at the head of the football ops who is 2IC in govt

The Saudi Arabian state is just about to do the same thing with Newcastle.

It’s all a bit sad though isn’t it. Look at the World Cup. The stadiums have basically been built by slave labour, little or no health and safety for the workers and thousands have reportedly died according to official investigators. Norway have recently had a vote but decided not to boycott the tournament.

I don’t think you even need to go to immediate family members in most cases - there’s a fair few club owners beyond the likes of Newcastle of City with blood on their hand that I think is maybe not as well publicised. I think I agree with the point you were initially making anyway.

It just wouldn't be legally possible if if they wanted to.

FPL is a global game and if you went down that route you would be crossing gambling law boundary's in different country's.

I would like to see the official FPL site have a separate league with verified individual managers where you could manage cash mini-leagues like SkyBet do.It would probably only work across Ireland and UK though because we have similar laws around these things i guess.

Armstrong stinks of a good in theory bad in reality pick to me.

How many goals are Saints scoring? Rather have Hwang.

And surely you start Rudiger every week - if not then downgrade him to a White/Duffy and use the cash on the third striker.

Like the rest - especially the midfield.

But Jimmy, if you just play the fixtures, you don't have to think! You can just robotically get in whichever player has the fixtures!

Difficult to know what to do here. Think can save WC but 4 doubts * in team. Would you

    A WC
B Hold team and if fit get TAA for Alonso and to fund Greenwood/Jota to Mbeumo

    Sanchez
    Alonso* Rüdiger Cancelo
Salah (c) Greenwood* Jota* Raphinha* Benrahma
    Ronaldo Antonio

    Foster Livramento Semedo Scarlett

Don’t mind B. Sucks to have to move in from Alonso but feels the right thing to do.

Have also been fiddling with wild card trying to catch double risers, but fortunately already got Son in . However have Mbueno and Hwang both with 0.1 rise so far, and was hoping for a double rise before bringing in Torres and Toney. Think I deffo need to bring in Toney for Hwang now, as Toney up to 80+% and in sixth place most likely to rise with double arrow! Anyone else in similar position?

worth sacrificing any double defence for Son?
    1 - yes
    2 - no

    1 - Hwang (343)
    2 - Townsend (352)

Double as in Chelsea and Man City defenders? Dropping one of the CHE defenders is fine for me if thats the only sacrifice you are making for Son.

      Townsend.

Not sure who the options are - Podence, Traore, Trincao…I guess one of the starts with Hwang and Jimenez, but it also would t surprise me for Hwang to not start in some instances.

I’d steer clear of them all - except maybe Hwang being so cheap and showing some finishing ability.
