Scout Picks

FPL Gameweek 8 Scout Picks built on Man City triple-up

As they prepare to face Burnley at the Etihad Stadium, three Manchester City players form the spine of our Gameweek 8 Scout Picks.

After Sam, Az, Neale and Tom submitted their Scout Squad selections earlier this week, we have chosen our best players ahead of tomorrow’s 11.00 BST deadline.

We line up in a 4-4-2 formation and come in at £82.9m, just under our £83.0m budget.

GOALKEEPER

Xhaka and Moura recalled as Ramsdale starts again

After a promising second half of last season yielded nine clean sheets from 23 games, three of which arrived in the final five, Arsenal have conceded just once in the four games since Aaron Ramsdale (£4.6m) was installed as first-choice goalkeeper. During that time, they have kept three clean sheets and given up just two big chances, fewer than any other Premier League side, while Ramsdale’s +1.10 expected goals (xG) prevented total ranks fourth amongst all goalkeepers so far. Now, the England stopper will be keen to build on that against Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace on Monday.

DEFENDERS

Wolves City dugout

With the news that he is available for Saturday’s early kick-off following injury, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) is clearly one of the best defender picks on offer in Gameweek 8, with potential for a clean sheet and attacking returns. A possible route to points may come via set-pieces, with opponents Watford allowing 2.7 xG from dead-ball situations so far this season, while they also rank 18th for crosses conceded from their left-flank. Given that Alexander-Arnold’s 17 successful crosses and 2.56 expected assists (xA) are both league-leading totals amongst all defenders in FPL, he could be set for another big week.

I don't understand Sánchez vs Norwich being benched for Ramsdale vs Palace

      Especially with Tierney starting

      Am I missing something?

Sánchez is on his bench, vs the league's worst team. Ramsdale is starting, vs a team that has scored (and can score) far more often than Norwich so far. Brighton and Arsenal are pretty similar defences atm

Tierney already covers the less likely Arsenal clean sheet. But Sánchez should start against the whipping boys, right? That's what I don't get

Benched, because my feeling is that if he plays it will likely be as a late sub just to get a few minutes under his belt, so possible one pointer.

I’d rather start Livramento, who should play 60+ minutes and leave Raphina on bench this week.

Not risking ye good olde 1 point cameo appearance.

Which team has better cohesion now? Who has the easier fixture? Who has been more reliable this season? Who had better stats?

These are better factors for predicting than his status in your team, right?

Thinking this too. Leicester are leaky at the back, but United not scoring a lot lately.

I have a deep aversion to capping players on a 12:30 kick off, and the legendary ‘new manager bounce’ worries me as Watford might be very defensively minded today with Ranieri at the helm.

The world and his dog are captaining Salah, so it’s one of those weeks where a differential captain could shoot you up the ranks if Salah blanks.

I do think Antonio is a good captain shout, Everton v West Ham looks like both teams can and will score probably more than once.

Same, apart from RVP years ago.

Ranieri is no mug, though, and Watford at home, with a new manager taking charge of his first game having 2 weeks to prepare genuinely worries me.

I don’t think this is going to be the walk in the park most everyone else seems to think it’s going to be for Liverpool.

        1. Ze_Austin
          • 5 Years

They didn't have two weeks to prepare. 10 of their players were on international duty, iirc from a recent FFScout article. It's more like 5 days to prepare with those who came back earlier, and an early kickoff to rub it in

            Ok.
