The spot-kicks have been despatched, the Fantasy clean sheets are in the bag and Italy, deservedly, have clinched a place in the last four against Germany on Thursday evening. Now we have a three-day break in proceedings before Spain square up to Portugal on Wednesday and, with eight free transfers available to Fantasy managers in the McDonald’s game, plenty of options are being assessed prior to the 7.30pm deadline on June 27:

With so many doubts over who will lead the line for the defending champions, last-minute transfers are likely to come into play on Wednesday. The teams will be announced prior to the deadline, affording Fantasy managers the chance to tinker with their lineups before deciding on final selections.

Fernando Torres and Cesc Fabregas have started two games apiece in the middle of the attacking three and both have returned two goals thus far – whoever gets the nod against Paulo Bento’s side will surely see a flurry of transfers before 7.30pm. David Silva looks the only real secure starter of Spain’s classified forwards in the McDonald’s game but has failed to produce any returns in his last couple of appearances. Xabi Alonso’s brace against France will see him pick up plenty interest, while Andres Iniesta’s owners are desperate for an upturn in performance, bearing in mind the midfielder has provided just a single assist over the tournament to date. Turning to the backline, and Jordi Alba in particular, could prove dividend – the left-back is the highest scoring player in the McDonald’s game and rolls up on the back of a 10 point haul against the French.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the obvious option for Portugal. Three goals in his last two games attests to his current form, with the 11.0 priced forward also hitting the woodwork a total of four times against Holland and Czech Republic. Up against Real Madrid team mate Alvaro Arbeloa on the flank, he has the potential to cause the Spaniards plenty of problems if Portugal can get their counter attack game working as they did against the Dutch. Nani is more of a differential with 14% ownership to Ronaldo’s 42% and has provided a pair of assists so far, while Hugo Almeida is likely to lead the line in light of Helder Postiga’s hamstring injury. Joao Moutinho has also matched Nani’s attacking returns, while Pepe’s resilience at the back, in addition to a goal against Denmark, has earned him 20 points, the same amount as Ronaldo.

    WTF?!!!

    Lay off Forca Inter!!

His comments were just a bit of banter.

Stop taking your disappointment out on him.

Grow up you spoiled little kids.

I've said all along how shite England were.

England were lucky to get to the QF.

If any thinks otherwise, they are fools.

But RonH appears to be sensible and isnt mucking about whilst things are kicking off. I actually think RonH just enjoys manipulating people but is actually quite clever too. Soon he will move onto positive manipulation rather than creating negative emotions.

Bad team and tactics tonight, Rooney was rubbish, and Young, I have no words.
They would have been better off getting Spain, as they underestimated Itsly massively, despite this being a very average Italy squad

As an Italy fan, but general, not over the top fan Italy really deserved that win. I was very suprisef with England and Roy got the tactics all wrong. Young? Just didn't get the love

Ps I have been on the other end in Euro 2008 when Italy lost to Spain in the quarters, and honestly we played so negatively that I WANTED to lose on pens as didn't want to sit through it again. I'm sure some sensible England fans may feel the same?

Pps, I said Pirlo should quit international football after 2008, but I take my hat off to him tonight. His penalty knocked the stuffing out of Hart imo

The tactics were so wrong, the 'expert' pundits really should have looked more at the formation to see why Pirlo was able to control the game. Rooney was never going to stay on him- he doesn't stick to DMs for long- see him for United against Song, Busquets etc. and Gerrard and Parker just sat back.

To be honest, the 4-4-2 is just dead on an international level and was just annihilated tonight with Italy packing the central midfield and inevitably dominating it and then using width well so the only bad thing about their performance was the finishing. Good luck vs. Germany, they'll need to take their chances without doubt.

After 20 mins into the game it started to look more and more like Rooney did his utmost to be on the opposite side of the pitch as Pirlo. And with the complete inability of ball retention, it is a slight miracle that England lasted so long.

We almost qualified once for a world cup.

We had a great team, rush, Saunders, Hughes, Southall etc.

Who took the pen who would have taken us though to finals... A full back called Paul Bodin (google him) who used to play for Swindon Town.

        Guess what, he missed?

Guess also what... He's a left footer. They can't take pens !

Yeah but had Young scored, the scenario would have been different - more pressure on the Italian etc. I'm pretty convinced Hodgson kept Young on and took Milner off for the spot-kicks - as it turned out, that was an error.

What is your scenario for the final?

If Spain and Germany win the SF, you will need a new front 3.

      Cassano + CR7 = 19.0
Arguably cheapest decent alternative: Torres + Silva = 19.1

Downgrade Pirlo to X (Busquets? -> 1.6 money -0.1 for offense = 1.5 for uprades)

Then upgrade something with 1.5 to get starting XI...Oliveira? No, 6.0 is too little for forward. Pilar? 6.7 seems kinda bad as well, if you already have Busquets. Balzaretti -> Boateng? That seems like your only decent option, IMO.

      Spain 4 vs. Portugal 3
      Germany 4 vs. Italy 2

Best case scenario: Final Spain vs Germany (8 players), what is your XI like after the 4 free transfers?

      Casillas
      Alba - Hummels - Boateng - X
      Iniesta - Özil - Reus - Y
      Torres - Z

      Highest money available: 4 - 4 - 2 (3 transfers), 25.6 moneys (Pepe, Pirlo, Ronaldo)

Buys you... Arbeloa (7.0), Busquets (6.5), with 12.1 money remaining for any single forward and 1 extra transfer. Your team has passed the simple stress test.
