The spot-kicks have been despatched, the Fantasy clean sheets are in the bag and Italy, deservedly, have clinched a place in the last four against Germany on Thursday evening. Now we have a three-day break in proceedings before Spain square up to Portugal on Wednesday and, with eight free transfers available to Fantasy managers in the McDonald’s game, plenty of options are being assessed prior to the 7.30pm deadline on June 27:

With so many doubts over who will lead the line for the defending champions, last-minute transfers are likely to come into play on Wednesday. The teams will be announced prior to the deadline, affording Fantasy managers the chance to tinker with their lineups before deciding on final selections.

Fernando Torres and Cesc Fabregas have started two games apiece in the middle of the attacking three and both have returned two goals thus far – whoever gets the nod against Paulo Bento’s side will surely see a flurry of transfers before 7.30pm. David Silva looks the only real secure starter of Spain’s classified forwards in the McDonald’s game but has failed to produce any returns in his last couple of appearances. Xabi Alonso’s brace against France will see him pick up plenty interest, while Andres Iniesta’s owners are desperate for an upturn in performance, bearing in mind the midfielder has provided just a single assist over the tournament to date. Turning to the backline, and Jordi Alba in particular, could prove dividend – the left-back is the highest scoring player in the McDonald’s game and rolls up on the back of a 10 point haul against the French.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the obvious option for Portugal. Three goals in his last two games attests to his current form, with the 11.0 priced forward also hitting the woodwork a total of four times against Holland and Czech Republic. Up against Real Madrid team mate Alvaro Arbeloa on the flank, he has the potential to cause the Spaniards plenty of problems if Portugal can get their counter attack game working as they did against the Dutch. Nani is more of a differential with 14% ownership to Ronaldo’s 42% and has provided a pair of assists so far, while Hugo Almeida is likely to lead the line in light of Helder Postiga’s hamstring injury. Joao Moutinho has also matched Nani’s attacking returns, while Pepe’s resilience at the back, in addition to a goal against Denmark, has earned him 20 points, the same amount as Ronaldo.

Just tried to log in to the UEFA site via my Google account in the normal way, and it's asking me to pick my squad again! Anyone else having this problem? My team details and record seems to have been unlinked somehow.

I guess they might be updating which might have caused it. I'd give it a while and retry. Let me know if you still have issues though.

Cheers Mark. It's really odd - I've always been on very shortly after the evening's game(s) have finished to make changes for the next day, and not had a problem before.

What's the best method of letting you know? Put "Mark" in my post, or use "Contact the Scout" below? I'll try both actually, no harm in that.

Seeing as you're still around, I did the following and it looks to have resolved the issue.

After logging in and being presented with the "you need to select a team" screen, I went to my Account settings/profile and tried to link to my Google account. The website responded with something along the lines of "there is already an account linked to this Google account".

In the Account settings, there's an option to cancel your account. Tentatively, I clicked on this as it was showing a registration date of today. Once completing de-registration (and choosing the "duplicate account" reason), I then retried logging in any hey presto, glad to see Wroy of Wrovers squad staring back at me!

Might help anyone else who gets in the same pickle somehow.

Think I'll advance with the following; reasonable hedge with POR:

    Patricio
    Hummels / Alba / Pepe
    Ozil / Khedira / Iniesta / Busquests
    Silva / Torres / Ronaldo

    Bank 0.3m

Make sure you have a valid plan to replace the POR GK if Spain advances. Patricio + Pepe + Ronaldo = 23.0 to purchase 3 players. Highest replacement cost and smallest amount of transfers scenario: Casillas / Neuer = 7.0, leaves you with 16.0. Boateng = 6.5, leaves you with 9.5. Guess that leaves you with Muller, Schurrle or Pedro Rodriguez in the offense (unless you will use the money to upgrade defense or midfield instead)?

Anyways what should England do from here? Give it a go again with the mix of old and young or throw all the young players in the deep end, qualification or no qualification?

The new smaller pitch rule for youngsters which puts more emphasis on possession and composure on the ball will take years to fully produce a generation of players.

Scholes and Carrick could've been called up. Shame this point will not be regarded seriously coming from a United fan and Gerrard and Parker can make themselves look good by recovering from poor positions but surely people can see the value of possession on the international stage? For once I tipped my hat off to Hansen for bringing that, somewhat obvious but still valid, point up.

He told Capello he didn't want to be consiodering for selction/reserve list as he was fed up of being left in limbo and he felt that Capello didn;t fancy him. Woy said he never called Carrick as he'd stated he didn't want to be considered.

IMO Woy didn't fancy Carrick either. if he did, he would have made the effort to try, as IMO, if Carrick thought he had a role to play he would have agreed.

I suggested this before the tournament and during the group stages, but they simply did not fit into Hodgson's game plan. And I think his game plan is reasonable having a majority of players who as you say are not in a possession culture. Surrounded by a bunch of hoofers, one Carrick or one Scholes might not have fixed that, and faced with not having much possession their lack of tackling skill might have made them a worse option.

There is no way out of this except for a whole new culture in our players.

That will take time, and we will just have to try to luck it in the meantime. I think we will also get better given more time with Roy. He's done well in 2 weeks.

Experience and youth. Hopefully Wilshere and other youngsters actually develop into stars that can make an impact. I don't think with the material there was that Roy could actually have picked any starting 11 that would win the Euros. Maybe in 4 years.

Playing the Metro game , got 2 free transfers to use in this gameweek.

Using one to replace Young and the other to replace Rooney with a Germany forward, who's the safest bet Gomez or Klose?

    Cheers

Spain + Germany player count minimum 6 players for SF, IMO. Otherwise, if both make it to the final, you are very screwed.

Man with no name about? Or anyone else piqued by the song at the end of the BBC programme, I've found the youtube link to the actual song but I recommend Linkin Park's version 🙂

Considering this is a brand new England just starting out, they've done well in reaching the quarter finals. We have a strong defence to build upon, things look good.

Yeah, twice the effort and interest than the last world cup.

We still lack the technical ability, but with someone as strong tactically as Roy at the helm I can see us improving.

I dont think so mate. Good defence I agree and difficult to beat for sure, but no possession play. This wont be sorted out anytime soon. Particularly when coaches prefer the big strong tall kids and the pacy kids as opposed to the frustrating technical players.

England have a keeper and back 4 in place (well on their respective days). They also have their impact subs- Theo and Ox. They even have a world class attacking player in Rooney. The rest of the team needs serious work, a change in formation is a must. Persisting with 4-4-2 is too tough with most teams these days playing with at least 3 central midfielders.

Somehow, Wilshere has got to flourish into a world class talent. Massive void in England's midfield for a creator and link player with the strikers.

+1. You need a Pirlo or Özil kind of player. Gerrard provided the linkage only in set-pieces. Which netted you a good scoring % from set-pieces, but not enough total attempts per match.

Need to fing the players for a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3
        Not sure who though?
I agree defence was great, mostly, but need possession more
Wilshere is the future but who else. It may sound silly but they cod have done with a Britton this tournament

I applaud the sentiment, but we are woefully short. I'm sure we will now be treated to the inevitable rhetoric of building for the next world cup. I was at Wembley when we lost to Poland 1-0 and we seem to have been building for the future ever since....

Are Terry and Cole going to make the World Cup though? Out of tonight's back five, only Hart and Johnson look likely to still be in the picture.

And I wouldnt call Johnson a definite first choice, Walker and Richards have equal claims.

Gerrard might not make it either, its fair to say the core wont be there. Hart alone is not enough and Rooney has a long way to go before he can carry the weight of England as he must.
