The spot-kicks have been despatched, the Fantasy clean sheets are in the bag and Italy, deservedly, have clinched a place in the last four against Germany on Thursday evening. Now we have a three-day break in proceedings before Spain square up to Portugal on Wednesday and, with eight free transfers available to Fantasy managers in the McDonald’s game, plenty of options are being assessed prior to the 7.30pm deadline on June 27:

With so many doubts over who will lead the line for the defending champions, last-minute transfers are likely to come into play on Wednesday. The teams will be announced prior to the deadline, affording Fantasy managers the chance to tinker with their lineups before deciding on final selections.

Fernando Torres and Cesc Fabregas have started two games apiece in the middle of the attacking three and both have returned two goals thus far – whoever gets the nod against Paulo Bento’s side will surely see a flurry of transfers before 7.30pm. David Silva looks the only real secure starter of Spain’s classified forwards in the McDonald’s game but has failed to produce any returns in his last couple of appearances. Xabi Alonso’s brace against France will see him pick up plenty interest, while Andres Iniesta’s owners are desperate for an upturn in performance, bearing in mind the midfielder has provided just a single assist over the tournament to date. Turning to the backline, and Jordi Alba in particular, could prove dividend – the left-back is the highest scoring player in the McDonald’s game and rolls up on the back of a 10 point haul against the French.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the obvious option for Portugal. Three goals in his last two games attests to his current form, with the 11.0 priced forward also hitting the woodwork a total of four times against Holland and Czech Republic. Up against Real Madrid team mate Alvaro Arbeloa on the flank, he has the potential to cause the Spaniards plenty of problems if Portugal can get their counter attack game working as they did against the Dutch. Nani is more of a differential with 14% ownership to Ronaldo’s 42% and has provided a pair of assists so far, while Hugo Almeida is likely to lead the line in light of Helder Postiga’s hamstring injury. Joao Moutinho has also matched Nani’s attacking returns, while Pepe’s resilience at the back, in addition to a goal against Denmark, has earned him 20 points, the same amount as Ronaldo.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

well its over......surely Woy did not keep Rooney & Young on just for Pens?

I honestly thought They were both pizz poor tonight, and surprised that Young in particular survived 120mins.....Wellbeck was subbed but looked sharper and may have reacted to a few Carroll Flicks that didnt seem to interest Rooney.

Whilst Milner gets slated, he worked hard and allowed GJ to get forward - Young tucked inside and did very little & Roo didnt even close opposition down yet Wellbeck was defending in his own box at times.

Roy seems to be a people pleaser & keeps media in favour - but i though England showed Italy were there for the taking early on, and with the right subs at the right time - who knows?? As it was England were outplayed all second half & extra time and whilst their led a charmed life, they did defend very well.

Just frustrated at lack of attacking ambition.

Ronaldo/Messi deserves to not be subbed off because they are trully outstanding players. Rooney is nowhere near that class. I would probably put on Ox/Defoe.

Roo is Roo sums up a people pleaser we all seen he was garbage yet Woy drags off the strike partner that looked lively, and was putting in a good shift.

I thought Roy's game plan was to keep it tight and solid and bring on Theo and Ox later on to exploit the tiring opposition defence with their pace and directness. Performance-wise this was an easy thing to do with both wingers- Young and Milner- swapped off. I guess Hodgson preferred to add a different dimension with Carroll but Welbeck was winning the aerial battles for the most part anyway... maybe Welbeck couldn't last much longer? And maybe (but I sincerely hope not) he kept Young on for his penalty taking ability...

That Pirlo penalty. Wow. I wonder what it feels for a player to take a penalty this way. It's not like his team is winning that he can try things like that just for fun. It's a penalty shootut, and his team is losing. Then he scores like that. Should Hart have stayed like he did when Balotelli took his penalty, Pirlo would have been probably killed by now 🙂
Anyway, it looked like that shot gave more confidence to Italy and kind of confused England...

I take penalties like that... in my dreams. That Uruguayan bloke did the same thing against Ghana in the 2010 WC to WIN the shootout. Epitome of casual but Pirlo did look so, so calm. Hart's antics didn't really work and he gave his game away a bit easy. Why isn't everyone taking note of Cech's penalty-saving masterclass in the CL final? That was not luck, diving the right way every single time.

    Re Rooney and Young...

Lot's of hate towards both tonight but ultimately one was in the squad on merit, one on reputation. Neither performed at all and despite many plus points in his favour, Roy is to blame. Most logical managers would not have had either starting and would surely have subbed both?

Learn quickly Roy, nobody is untouchable....

Yep, both should have been subbed on performance rather than Milner and Welbeck.

But how many managers out there would have been brave enough to sub Rooney at 0-0 in a QF to leave 2 inexperienced strikers with records nowhere near Rooney's upfront? Not many.

so true. it is all about experience at this level.

and not to mention IF roy subbed in defoe for rooney, and he did f-all as rooney did, everyone will blame him for playing 2 inexperienced strikers in QF extra time.

        he will never win 😉

Agree. Not subbing off Rooney who was so ineffective was a misfire. Defoe would have brought some much needed pace and urgency. Rooney looked lost out there.

As much as I agree with you, I can't see any England manager ever leaving Rooney out in that situation. Definitely should have at least come off before the end though, if only Parker could have lasted then maybe Defoe might have come on at the end?

I would have replaced Carroll with Rooney, Welbeck was fitter and more likely to last the full 120 better.

Taking Welbeck off just seemed about rank, not actual performance.

I agree with you that he should have come off but it's easy for us to say that. We're not the one who's under the pressure of the entire nation to make the decision. Hardly any managers would have taken Rooney off in that situation.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. No manager would have subbed Rooney, no matter how knackered he was he's more likely to produce some magic. A bigger quesion is how wrecked was Parker to have to brin on Hendrson? Parker on his last legs is still better than Henderson. Ox for Young could have provided dividends. Overall Italy were the better side but have no real chance v Germany unles Balotelli finds his shooting boots.

      Yup, same.

Figure the best way to score big is to captain a defender who keeps a clean sheet and scores/assists.

As Vlad says Pirlo's penalty for Italy, when they were losing and he absolutely had to score, was absolutely mind blowingly amazing.

That is what technical skill does for people.

    And balls.

    Huge balls.

Just watching the highlights on ITV, it looks like a different game to the actual one! Even skipped the Ashley Young dive to rule Maggio out of the semis!

I hope Italy still win on pens?!!

Oh how the times have changed....

In the first couple of weeks, I was desperate for striker slots, and there were about 10 forwards I wanted to fit into 3 positions.

Now the only forward I want is Ronaldo.

I blame those bleedin' Germans. No idea who they will play now and we very likely won't find out before the deadline.

One striker spot will almost certainly have another Portugese write-off in it depending on who is confirmed in the lineups pre deadline. Torres might stay in my side if he gets an unlikely start, barring that I may gamble on an Italian.
