Is Antonio a keep or sell and is Alonso a good Chilwell replacement in FPL?

We are now approaching the business end of the season and the Gameweeks will come thick and fast. As Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, we need to react and absorb information over a short period. There is no room for passengers.

Speaking of passengers, I want to start off this article talking about FPL’s top-scoring forward – Michail Antonio (£8.2m).

It’s just one goal in the last six matches for the West Ham United striker, so let’s have a look at his numbers.

MICHAIL ANTONIO: KEEP OR SELL?

Above: Forwards sorted by expected goal involvement (xGI) in Gameweeks 1-6

Antonio notched 47 of his 63 points in the first six Gameweeks, despite missing one game due to suspension.

He topped the numbers for forwards in that period, with a whopping 21 shots in the box, 11 chances created and seven big chances. He was also top for expected goal involvement (xGI) (5.21) by some distance.

Above: Forwards sorted by expected goal involvement (xGI) in Gameweeks 7-12

A look at the last six weeks sees a significant drop in his numbers. While his chance creation has actually gone up (12 from 11), his shot volume has dropped massively (10 shots in the box vs 21 earlier). There have been only two big chances, too, which sees his xGI fall to just 2.39, less than half of his Gameweek 1-6 total. Again, it’s worth mentioning he played one game fewer in the previous sample.

We discussed the merits of premium wing-backs in our latest episode of The FPL Wire. With Chilwell’s injury, you can easily substitute Alonso into the conversation. I highly recommend watching it.

Good luck and see you next week.

Should I, Anthonio and Raph to Benteke and Jota?

    Ramsdale

Raphinha should be OK. Not keen on Benteke when you get Jimenez.

Should have said when you can get Jimenez!

Raphinha confirms he's good ahead of trip to Brighton in the first minute of this interview. Happy days 🙂

Yeah the Raphinha part of the transfer was difficult but an upgrade to Jota playing in the best attacking team in the league is a good upgrade.

Nope I wouldn't, you are getting rid of 2 nailed first team players for 2 who may not play in a few weeks. Just my opinion.

Not a fan of those hits for this GW. If you want a nailed defender over the December period, Lamptey isn't the player to go for imo. I wouldn't remove Toney who is up against a poor Everton side

Any fellow Schmeichel holders? Frustratingly, I have had him since the start. Thought about swapping him out several times but always had other more pressing transfers to make.

Maybe this is the gw for his second cs of the season?

Honestly I'd suck it up and get rid, as annoying as it may be. Leicester have been atrocious defensively, a friend of mine (and rival in a minileague) has had him most of the season too and practically every week I've looked at him and been confident he'll get no more than 1-2pts and it's turned out that way. A move to someone like Ramsdale might work well, fixtures aren't too bad and you'll save a little money. Watford is a good fixture for Leicester but I'd expect them to score with the way they attack and the way Leicester are defending

Just do Royal instead? He's just as nailed and almost as attacking as Reguilon, and less likely to be substituted off early. And you've got your WC to get rid if he doesn't start getting attacking returns.

Would you say this is G2G? Done Chilwell to James and now just trying to figure out who to bench, Rudiger or Antonio? Or, do I downgrade Rudiger to bench Fodder and then use that money to upgrade ESR to Gallagher?

For example: Rudiger > White & ESR > Gallagher.

        Sanchez
        TAA - Cancelo - James - Rudiger
        Salah (c) - Son - Jota - ESR
        Jesus - Toney

        Steele - Antonio - Livra - Sissoko

          morning all

My team has been a bit of a disaster this season and this week is no exception after some early moves (-4) to bring in TAA. Now Chilwell is injured but I could get away with no further changes but only if Foden and Raph play.

          Guiata Steer
Chiwell (inj) Rudiger TAA Duffy Livra
Salah Foden Raph Gallagher McArther (inj)
          Kane Vardy Davis

          Options-
          1. Wait for press conferences and hope Foden and Raph are playing
          2. Foden --> Jota or B Silva (another -4)

Cheers for any input. I really wished I hadn't used that WC for Ronaldo and Lukaku back in GW4!!

Need to downgrade a guy to last bench spot to get James in,

          1. Hwang
          2. Toney

I’ll bench Antonio this week so play two of the above but moving forward I’ll only need to play one of them

Mbeumo would make sense in terms of actual output, but is there much to downgrade him to? Vs actually getting a useful striker by downgrading Toney. Hwang has 2 very good fixtures

A bit mad maybe, but how does these moves look?

          Chilwell -> Reguilon
          Son -> Mané

Own Kane, only have Salah for Liverpool and nobody owns Mané.

Alternatively, I could get in TAA and Jota with those same moves and have some cash ITB

I weirdly like it as I think Mane is a great option, but if you don't have TAA I think I'd prioritise him. I went without from GW5 until last week but felt it was time to get him back with the fixture run and his form picking up and I imagine he's done some damage to your rank in the last couple of weeks if you didn't have him.

TAA & Jota by such a margin

Yes I know no one owns Mane and he is 2nd highest scoring midfielder but he isn’t value at the price relative to other options when you factor in the fact you’ll never captain him

It does for players at Mane’s price. My point is that Mane becomes worse value (points per million) than a number of cheaper options if you will never captain him

Was hoping to finally get rid of Benrahma but the chilwell injury has put a spanner in the works. Fairly Set on Havertz to Jota.

Why are Foden owners rushing to sell him when he might not be injured?

People bought Kane out of fear, fixtures, Conte and history. Based on cold hard stats Kane is a horrendous pick currently.

Last season in the league he averaged over 0.5 xG in 20+ games. This season he hasn’t averaged over that in any games.

He is Kane and he loves Christmas so he could score huge of course but it’s pure hope than expectation currently

I guess people brought in Foden before the Firminho injury. Now Jota has a much better chance of starting most games as central forward he is a better option. Foden was also playing false 9 and is now out on the left.

I have Foden and am keeping for now though.

As a reminder, since the Foden concerns are snowballing out of control, here's what was said about Foden by City's official site and Pep:

"... while Phil Foden is not fully fit for selection.": https://www.mancity.com/news/mens/manchester-city-paris-saint-germain-team-news-tactics-63773373

Pep Guardiola on Phil Foden's absence: "Phil had a problem in the last game against Everton, did not recover. Yesterday in training, he didn't feel good, and he's not able to play.": https://twitter.com/FFScout/status/1463649024087576584?s=20

There is nothing suggesting a major injury, like Bamford or Chilwell. This is a knock, and we'll get more news from Pep tomorrow

As a further reminder, Foden had a knock before GW12 and Pep said "We'll see", after which Foden started vs Everton; showing he's a top priority starter for Pep, as he could have rested him like Jesus. He then came off when he got a fresh knock

            Wait for tomorrow's press conference.

Well summarised, and in addition to this Foden will have had a weeks' rest by the time the West Ham game comes around which could be vital in this busy run of games, not to mention Wednesday to Sunday leaves plenty of time for him to fully recover. It can be interpreted in different ways of course but to me Pep's comments just sounded like he was training like normal on Tuesday before the PSG game but he didn't feel fully recovered or able for that match. Lots of time in between that point and Sunday.

Doesn't look like it at the moment. I'm sure there'll be activity today but Kane is closest at 98%, next closest is TAA at 90% Gallagher at 89% so it'll probably be fine. Kane has looked like he would rise for a few days now too and still hasn't so even that may not happen.

Both are probably going to rise but could survive one more day...
