This is it, then. One last match of Euro 2012 left before our thoughts inevitably turn to domestic matters with the release of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player list later this month. This evening, though, our attentions are fixed firmly on Spain’s match with Italy, as Vicente Del Bosque’s side look to win their third consecutive major international tournament in this evening’s 7.45pm showdown:

As always, we’ve opened up the Dugout Discussion ahead of kick-off:

The team news is now in and is as follow:

Spain make one change to the side that started against Portugal in the semi finals. Cesc Fabregas returns to the first-team in the “false nine” position, with Alvaro Negredo dropping to the bench – Del Bosque, therefore, has named the same starting XI that faced Italy in their opening Group C match.

The Azzurri continue in the 4-2-3-1 formation that has seen them concede just one goal in their last three matches. Cesare Prandelli makes just a single alteration to his team – Ignazio Abate has recovered from injury and returns at right-back, with Federico Balzaretti the man to miss out.

Spain XI: Casillas; Arbeloa, Pique, Ramos, Alba; Busquets, Alonso, Xavi, Silva, Fabregas, Iniesta

Italy XI: Buffon; Abate, Bonucci, Barzagli, Chiellini; Pirlo, Marchisio, De Rossi, Montolivo; Balotelli, Cassano

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Just wanted to thank everyone on here you made the tournament even more enjoyable. I destroyed my mini league, came 4000 and something (which is more than I would have imagined before) and won some cash. I couldnt have done it without the people on here, thanks 🙂

None of the goalscorers in the final played for Barcelona or Real Madrid last season.
Barca have already snapped up Jordi Alba. How much will they now bid for Silva, Torres and Mata?

Well, thank goodness Euro 2012 is over.

Can get back to speculating about the FPL now! Was a good tournament though. Shame Italy couldn't get it going tonight and playing a 2nd half with 10 men through no fault of their own was rotten luck.

Kudos to Spain though. Good performance tonight all round.

No fault of their own? Prandelli made all 3 subs at 60 minutes. Bad move IMO. Was telling my cousin at the time that wasting all subs this early may be nail on coffin. They played as well as expected first half and with a little luck, could have nicked one back. Di natale should have been saved for about the 75th minute in order to give 15 min at full speed. It was an uphill battle anyway you look, but poor use of subs ended all hope.

Now that McD FF has finished I gotta move on. Bought PS3 and FIFA12 four or five days ago and I'm trying to learn the manual passing mode but since I've played something like 1000 PES matches with assisted passing mode I'm finding some passing angles impossible to reach. Anyone got some tips how to improve passing skills in FIFA12 or do you reckon I should just continue with assisted passing ? If I mastered manual passing mode properly I'd definitely use it but atm I'm getting frustrated with it.

          Just don't see it happening.
They were a fine team in the first half of last season but I dont see that defensive form replicated.
Also, without Siggurdsson they really dont have that attacking threat they held in the second half.
I'd love to be proved wrong, but I see them more likely to go down than Wigan purely due to Wigans surviving nature.

That's for the Golden Boot award.

Bookmakers just bet on Top Scorer which ended up being a 6 way dead heat for first, meaning that you get 1/6th of your stake at the price. ie £1 on Dzagoev @ 100/1 would return you £16.83

Hate to admit it, but Arsene seems to have made 2 excellent signings in Podolski and Giroud. With the return of Wilshere and perhaps one or 2 more signings for defensive cover in case of another injury crisis, can actually see them challenging this season. Could be the most open title race for years with United, Chelsea, City and Arsenal all in with a shout (especially if City dont go the whole season with barely any injury worries again! Grrrrr)

Honestly I think Arsenal's transfers in the last few seasons have been fairly average and have always treated their fans optimism with a great deal of ridicule. Podolski is such a solid signing imo. Giroud looks good - the main point of him in my eyes is a decent back up to RVP which i think he is, unlike Chamakh who i never rated

Never really seen anything in Podolski. Also how no real idea how Wenger plans to use RVP, Giroud and Walcott, given they've already got Walcott, Gervinho etc.

Plus I reckon RVP will leave, and Arsenal will end up with a weaker squad than last year because of it.

Podolski is quality in my eyes. Didnt have the greatest tournament this time around but Ive seen him play outstandingly for Germany on numerous occassions and I think his work ethic and style of play is perfect for the premier league. Giroud is unproven yet, have to see what will happen but I can see him doing well

Podolski does no defensive work at all, will be a problem for Wenger.

Wonder if he's considering going back to 442. Seemed pretty intent on M'Vila, perhaps as replacements for Gilberto and Vieira.

Yeah against smaller teams. You said you 'never really rated Chamakh'. What makes you rate Giroud when they've both come in to the Premier League as Ligue 1 topscorers for the title winning side? What was so different with Chamakh? Giroud could quite easily be Chamakh mk. 2

Have done. Yeah so what, Giroud's banged in a few goals in a pretty shi*tty league. What makes him such a comprehensive player to put in a side aiming for silverware? He's had ONE good season and that's it. It's not enough to justify Arsenal's purchase of him

So in other words, you haven't watched him properly. He's much better all round than Chamakh, good link up play, holds the ball up well, extremely intelligent, good work rate and can score with more than his head.

Finished around 1500th. Not great, but good enough I guess. Would have been very different if I hadn't had such a stinker in the first week. Torres x2, Ibra, RVP x2 (from Sneijder assists), Andrews x2/3 etc. hadn't missed so many presentable opportunities, it could have been very different.

    Cool story, bro.

Evening guys, such a busy day. Only managed to catch bits of the final. Torres looking sharp again...

Thinking of taking a punt on Torres and Carroll come the new FPL season. Shouldn't suffer a price rise (if anything a price drop)

I'll be punting on Torres, definitely. His price will presumably be lower than last season - they can't justifiably bump it up - and he'll be the main man in a Chelsea side with genuine creativity in it for once. Give it a few weeks and everyone will have Torres.

Not so sure about Carroll though. Struggling to see how he'll fit into the football that Rodgers likes to play.

Arsenal - Keep hold of Rvp.
Man Utd - Sign a left back (NOT Baines) maybe Pereira from Dortmund. Also another midfielder, either Tiote or Modric.
Man City - Need a back up centre back, possibly Raul Albiol.
Chelsea - Well signing Hazard is a big plus. Don't need any other signings tbh.
Liverpool - If Liverpool miss out on Siggy, which is highly likely, I think Rodgers should move in for Moussa Dembele.

I believe the title is between City and Utd. Chelsea and Arsenal will battle it out for 3rd and 4th, leaving Spurs Newcastle and Liverpool fighting for 5th, 6th and 7th. Hope I'm wrong, though.

Apparently but still rumour so don't look into it at all. I'd reckon if it came true they'd push Kagawa out to the wing and have Sneijder in the centre. Or they can have Sneijder drop deeper since he's adaptable enough to play deep too.

Put in some fairly reckless challenges at times too. He's maturing but I think he's still a weak link in the defensive line right now.

Every player puts in a wild tackle now and then it doesn't make them hot headed. It comes with experience.

Evra was unquestionably the weak link last season.

I think both wings were the weak link in the defensive line really. Rafael has time to develop and is still naive, Evra is just passed it.

I think he can be great. People talk about his occasional rash challenge or decision but what about what he offers going forward? Utd should persist with this guy in my opinion.

Same can be said about some of the best full backs in the game, Jordi Alba, Coentrao, Dani Alves, Andre Santos 😉

His link up play with Valencia is brilliant and as the poster below said, Valencia is good at defending and tracking back.

I've obviously watched him this season, I like his attacking play but he's not a defensive strong house. Sometimes very effective and other times very weak, much like Evra which is why I want to keep him on and see what happens but will not say he's a strong defender yet as I don't believe he is.

Conspiracy, you're very correct Jordi Alba, Coentrao, Dani Alves, Andre Santos are all like that but three of them are in leagues that don't require as much defensive work and more attacking runs, the only one in the EPL only played a few times this season. As I side though, I'm willing to wait and see. 😉

agree, he has been too gung-ho so far. Think he could become a dani alves ilk player tho if fergie plays him enough. Valencia is decent at defending so will be an excellent combo on the right imo. Left side is where we have issues, think evra is past it
