Suspensions

Which FPL players are suspended or nearing a one-match ban?

We’re bringing you another Suspension Tightrope article as Gameweek 20 hurtles into view, with the yellow cards steadily racking up for numerous Premier League players and the threat of a one-match ban looming.

There are a grand total of 32 Fantasy Premier League assets (FPL) who are now just one booking away from a ban, while three players are red-flagged as a consequence of picking up their fifth cautions of the campaign on Boxing Day.

The yellow card amnesty is not until after the completion of a team’s 19th league fixture (more on that later), after which the threshold moves up from five to ten bookings.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

Christian Norgaard (£5.0m), Tyrone Mings (£5.0m) and Declan Rice (£5.1m) all reached the unwanted target of five yellow cards on Boxing Day and will miss their sides’ next match – in the case of Mings, that will be Gameweek 21.

Andrew Robertson (£7.1m) will sit out Gameweeks 20 and 21 as a result of his red card against Tottenham Hotspur a week ago, while Wilfried Zaha (£6.8m) won’t be involved in Gameweek 20 after being dismissed for two bookings in the defeat to Spurs on Sunday.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

Of the notable names in the above list, Conor Gallagher (£6.1m) has one more match to negotiate until the threat of a one-match ban passes, while Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) and Raphinha (£6.5m) won’t be in the clear until Gameweek 21 has been and gone – assuming there are no more postponements, of course.

Callum Wilson (£7.4m) and Javier Manquillo (£3.9m) will have seen off any danger if they avoid a booking tonight.

Again, there’s more on cut-off dates in the bottom section.

SAFE FROM A ONE-MATCH BAN

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City fulfilled their 19th league fixture on Boxing so a handful of big names sitting on four yellow cards, namely Marcos Alonso (£5.7m), Reece James (£6.4m), Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) and Ruben Dias (£6.2m), are now in the clear.

Rodri (£5.5m) and Albert Sambi Lokonga (£4.7m) are also now out of danger.

ON THREE YELLOW CARDS

There’s less to sweat about if your player is on three bookings: some are already in the clear (assets from Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Liverpool, West Ham, Wolves, Villa, Southampton, Palace, Leeds, Newcastle and Norwich), while others just have to avoid picking up two bookings in as many Gameweeks.

There are 21 players in total on the above list of players still at risk but owners of Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m), Ivan Toney (£6.6m) and Demarai Gray (£5.5m) are unlikely to be losing any sleep over their current disciplinary statuses.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

As mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to ten after a team’s 19th league fixture.

That is not to be confused with Gameweek 19: due to the raft of postponements over the last month, only four teams have fulfilled or will fulfill their 19th league fixture in the current round of matches.

A club-by-club rundown is below (clubs in italics have already played their 19th match):

Club19th League Fixture (as things stand)
ArsenalGW19
Aston VillaGW21
BrentfordGW21
BrightonGW21
BurnleyGW23
ChelseaGW19
Crystal PalaceGW20
EvertonGW21
LeedsGW21
LeicesterGW21
LiverpoolGW20
Man CityGW19
Man UtdGW21
NewcastleGW19
NorwichGW20
SouthamptonGW20
SpursGW22
WatfordGW22
West HamGW20
WolvesGW21

The threshold for ten yellow cards is after 32 league matches, which will be April at the earliest.

Players collecting ten bookings before that point will serve a two-game ban.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

    Bottomed repost:

Unless FH-ing, set to move on this:

Raya Benardo ESR > DDG Bowen Moura (-8), keep 2 FHs

Will get XI starting and few players for anticipated DGW (presumably).

    Any obvious ignorance here folks?

Would be a -8 if done today but would give me a full 11 for tomorrow as things stand, or a -4 and I only field 10 this week if I do 2 transfers next week.

The issue is I don't have funds to sub out the 2 non playing players unless I do the lot

True. The next round of games is tomorrow though!
I guess taking 2 non playing assets out is only a -4 assuming they both start and aren't subbed, so maybe it's only a -4 overall!

    Fun stat.
Since signing bernardo, city have scored 18 goals in 4 games and he got me 1 assist.

And since bringing in foden 10 goals and I've got 1 point off him.

I think it’s just City players to be fair.

I brought in Mahrez GW1 which went okay until I sold him in GW3. But every City player after that has just caused me untold woe…

Torres failed. Grealish failed. Foden (twice) big fat nothing. Bilva actively avoiding getting points.

Yet here I am, have 3 City players in my side…
Too stupid or too stubborn… I dunno!

True, the only good city asset I've had has been cancelo. And even with him I f-ed it up by benching his 14 point haul vs utd. Had my biased utd glasses on, but really thought they'd nick a goal!

Listening to some experts moaning about the FPL site crash close to the deadline, especially after the site nearly crashed similarly recently. Anyone with a basic understanding of IT will know that if I site gets excess traffic all at once, there is a very good chance a site will crash. There was some pretty silly advice the leave transfers to the last minute, because of late team news.

Leave transfers latish (say 1 hr before deadline) but don't leave them until 5 minutes before deadline. Lastly I get fed up of a minority of folk having access to late team news and links (if you are in the "know") as this gives an unfair advantage. I will get slated, but I there is some justice in the site crashing to catch some of these folk out. If you did it in all innocence, accept my apologies in advance.

The earlier deadlines help somewhat to lessen the influence of these ITK managers at least.

Also good advice regarding not waiting until the very last minute to do transfers…
But it didn’t help me 2GW’s back when I waited to bring in Watkins until about 45 mins before deadline (needed to go out!) and I brought him in only for Villa game to be called off about 10 mins later 🙁

I'd say the only thing true in that comment is, yes, sites crash when millions try to ping at the same time. That was to be expected somehow. Basic IT. I didn't suffer because my transfer had gone through even when it showed me the error. What I do disagree on is that those that are invested in the game should get all the advantage possible for using their time and knowledge OVER the "casual" player. I do not like these extra free hits ang gimmicks that they do to keep the guy who's 4,5M ranked, interested in this game to even the playing field.

Good managers are good for a reason. Moving the deadline forward 30mins is a thing I can handle now that I'm used to it , but even that is so & so.

Bernardo has reverted back to being useless, Gundogan was last years flavour of the month and Mahrez will be off to AFCON soon.

Not A) this week as may as well keep Alonso for Brighton at home (good move after that though!).

I’d probably do B or C this week

I think we will score at least 3 vs leic. We have covid effected players back and will be much fresher than Leic

You sure you want Jota? I’m a bit concerned about owning him from when Salah and Mane head off

    Hi all!
I can field a full XI (assuming no further postponements) of:
    DDG
    Livra TAA Rudiger Cancelo Reguilon
    Foden Salah (C) Gallagher Jota
    Dennis
    (Sanchez Lacazette Saka Hwang)

Not planning on keeping Laca much longer. But should I just roll the FT this week and make the moves next week? 1.1m ITB. Cheers!

I’d make a move this week if you have something in mind…

Livra in your starting XI isn’t that great, plus nothing on the bench means it’s worth it I think

    Is this worth -8?

Ramsdale, Watkins, Laca > DDG, CR7, Wilson

If it’s a medium term (4-5 week) move then I’d say yes.

Alternatives up to 7.4? Also unsure but fixtures are good for Newcastle for a while

Anyone considering Pukki as a cheap 3rd forward for the next few games? Fixtures are decent, on pens, plays every minute.

Or have I lost my mind finally?

Other strikers are CR7 and Antonio.

He’s an okay 8th attacker - but I’d rather have Broja as he’s cheaper, plays for a better side and he looks way more talented than Pukki

Yeah considered him but worried about his minutes with Adams and Armstrong around. Also played most of the game yesterday.

I've had him a few weeks, he's fairly clinical but gets so little service + lacks pace so I wouldn't recommend him over King. Don't make the same mistake I made!

The exact reasons why I bought him in GW17 but over thought the move when I should've went Watkins before his haul (hindsight biased). I don't think Norwich is worth the hassle.

Thinking one or two of theses have to go?

    Bernardo
    ESR
    Rudiger or James

    DDG,
    James, Cancelo, Rudiger, Trent,
    *Bilva, *Gallagher, Salah, Jota
    Antonio, Dennis,

    Ramsdale, Watkins, Teirney, ESR,

    .7

    1FT.

What to do? Saka to Bowen 0.1 short

    A) ESR to Benrahma
    B) Saka to Tielemans
    C) ESR, Saka to Benrahma, Bowen (-4)
    D) hold FT and play 10 players

Benrahma is away to AFCON at some point.

      Prefer Maddison over Tielemans

I would lean D unless you can suggest other options

Is it worth a -4 to upgrade Livramento to a 4.6m defender, or just play him and hold out for DGW info next GW?

    A) Jimenez to Antonio
    B) Ramsdale to DDG
    C) Both (-4)
    D) None, save FT

    TAA Cancelo Rudiger Reguilion
    Salah Jota BSilva Foden
